## Summary

Christina Galbado, a digital marketing expert and influencer, explains the critical first step for aspiring bloggers: identifying your ideal audience avatar. She outlines why this is essential for content success and provides a structured process for defining your target person, including specific questions to answer and an example to illustrate the concept.

### Key Points

- **The Missing First Step** [00:00] — After deciding on a blog niche, the next crucial step is identifying exactly who you are creating for—your ideal audience avatar.
- **Reason 1: Content for Everyone is for No One** [00:51] — Writing for everyone makes your content generic and hard to find. Niching down helps the right people discover your content.
- **Reason 2: Easier Content Creation** [01:16] — Knowing your audience's struggles, desires, and circumstances makes it much easier to figure out what content they need from you.
- **Reason 3: Guides Business Decisions** [01:32] — Having a clear audience avatar helps with all business decisions, from brand colors to whether a collaboration is a good fit or what to teach in an online course.
- **Start with Basic Demographics** [01:57] — First, decide if your ideal audience identifies as male, female, or non-binary. Then, determine their general age range and where they live (e.g., metropolitan area or suburbs).
- **Five Detailed Questions** [02:22] — To build a complete picture, answer these five questions: 1) What is their occupation? 2) What are their hobbies? 3) What does their day-to-day life look like? 4) What are their struggles related to your niche? 5) What are their desires related to your niche?
- **Use Your Own Past Struggles** [03:32] — If you struggle to list your audience's struggles and desires, consider the struggles and desires you had in relation to your niche a few years ago.
- **Example: Samantha vs. Katie** [03:46] — Illustrates how two fashion bloggers can have different avatars: Samantha (20s, city, high-fashion for 9-to-5) vs. Katie (40s, suburbs, budget-friendly outfits for dinners). This leads to drastically different content.
- **Actionable Exercise** [04:25] — Spend 15-20 minutes writing about your person, starting with generic identifiers and then getting specific on occupation, hobbies, day-to-day life, struggles, and desires.

### Conclusion

Defining your ideal audience avatar is a foundational step for any blogger. By answering specific questions about your target person, you can create content that resonates, guides your business decisions, and ultimately builds a more successful blog.

## Transcript

You've just decided to start your blog. Generally speaking, you know your niche and the various topics you want to write about and offer value on, but you're still feeling like something is missing in order to actually start. I know what your next step needs to be, and that is identifying
exactly who you are creating for. Hey there, my name is Christina Galbado. To give you a little background on me, I'm an influencer, online educator, and digital marketing expert. After
building a successful career as a travel influencer and working with brands like Ritz-Carlton, Mazda, and Lou Lemon, I built a seven-figure online education business where I've helped thousands of women build careers as influencers and bloggers. And I'm so excited to be here with
you on Google for Creators, where I'll be teaching you everything you need to know about turning your hobby blog into a scalable, profitable business. Back to this episode's topic. One of the first things you need to do before you can begin posting as a creator is to know how to find
your ideal audience avatar, aka the person you are creating for. There are three reasons this that if done correctly can fast track your way to success. The first reason is because of the simple fact that content that is written for everyone
is written for no one. It's kind of the same concept as saying a jack of all trades is the master of none. So many people start blogs and try to write something for everyone because they're afraid that if they niche down too much, they will push people away.
But actually it will only make your content more easily found by the right person Secondly by knowing your audience struggles desires and present circumstances which I will be walking you through in this video you will much more easily be able to figure out what type of content they need from you.
This makes your job as a creator a heck of a lot easier, which is the dream. Thirdly, it'll help you with every decision that you make in your business. Everything from what brand color should I use? Is this brand collaboration a good fit?
Should I create an online course? and what should I teach in the online course, those decisions and more are easily made when you consider the person you are creating for. Now that you know why having a clear person in mind that you're creating for is so important,
let's actually get started on establishing who your person is. First things first, you'll need to decide if your ideal audience identifies as male, female, or non-binary. Next, what is their general age range? Are they younger than 24 or between the ages of 24 to 35
or older than that? And finally, where do they live? in a major metropolitan area or the suburbs? If you're having trouble answering these questions, you may actually just consider yourself. Do you identify as male, female, or non-binary?
What is your age and where do you live? Typically, we attract people like us. So here are the five detailed questions on your ideal audience avatar. First, what is his or her occupation? Are they an entrepreneur or a digital nomad
with a flexible schedule? Or are they working in finance in a large city and spend a lot of their time commuting and at a desk Second what are their hobbies Do they like spending time with their friends or reading new books Do they like trying out new restaurants or do they like shopping Thirdly what does their day life look like Seriously how do they
start their day? What is their morning routine if they have one? What do they wear during the day? These may seem like silly questions to answer, but trust me when I say they are just helping you paint a more clear and complete picture of who you're creating for. Fourth, what are their
struggles as related to your niche. For example, if I'm a travel blogger, maybe a struggle of my audience is finding cheap flights. That gives me a clear direction on content that I can create about travel hacking or using the right flight search platforms. And lastly, what are their
desires when it comes to your niche? For example, maybe a desire of my ideal audience avatar is to travel more while still maintaining their office job so your content can center around weekend trips. If you're struggling to list out struggles and desires of your audience, you might consider
the struggles and desires you had in relation to your niche just a few years ago. After you answer these five questions, you will have a very clear picture of the exact person you're writing for. It might even be helpful to give your avatar a name. To illustrate the importance of this exercise
further, I'm going to show you an example. Let's say I'm a blogger and my niche is fashion. My ideal audience avatar is Samantha. She identifies as female. She's in her twenties and lives in a city Her desire is to put together more high fashion outfits to wear for her nine to five and her struggle is how to mix designer and normal pieces together On the other hand let say I a blogger and my niche is fashion So same niche but my ideal audience avatar is Katie She identifies as female she in her forties and she lives in
the Midwestern suburbs. Her desire is how to dress for dinners with her husband and her struggle is how to find budget friendly options. For both examples, it's the same niche, but drastically different audience avatars, which means drastically different types of content. So now it's your turn.
Now that you know how important having an ideal audience avatar is and you know the process by which you can identify that person, I want you to spend 15 to 20 minutes writing about your person. You can do this on a Google Doc or a piece of paper.
Write down those more generic identifiers like their gender, age, and location and then spend time getting really specific on their occupation, their hobbies, their day-to-day life, their struggles, and their desires. I promise that once you're done with this exercise, you will have a much more clear idea of the content that you should be creating.
Now that you've learned how to identify your ideal audience avatar and you know exactly who you're writing for, you can move on to actually writing your first blog post. Tell me a little about the person you're writing for and how this video helped you in a comment
below. In the next video for me, I will be showing you how to curate an Instagram feed that supports your blog. To make sure you don't miss that video and for more insights from me and other creators, don't forget to hit subscribe.
