[0:00] [Music] [0:04] hello my dear friends and welcome to [0:06] thrive with trish [0:09] today we're going to be talking about [0:11] creator burnout we're going to be [0:13] looking at what is creator burnout what [0:15] are the consequences of burnout [0:17] what are the warning signs what is my [0:19] personal experience [0:20] with creative burnout and what are the [0:22] tips that has helped me [0:23] to overcome this burnout so first of all [0:26] what is creator burnout [0:28] creative burnout is when a content [0:30] creator whether or not you're a content [0:31] creator on youtube [0:32] instagram pinterest twitter anything [0:35] which requires you to be [0:36] creative and to create content creative [0:39] burnout is a feeling of [0:41] extreme exhaustion and you have that [0:43] feeling of lack of pride [0:45] in the content that you produce how does [0:48] this burnout even come about [0:50] well there's a couple of reasons which [0:51] could cause this and one of them is [0:53] because you're your own boss [0:55] and therefore you put more pressure onto [0:56] yourself perfectionism [0:58] you spend a lot of time trying to turn [1:00] out creative ideas [1:01] you spend time editing you spend time [1:04] publishing the content [1:05] all this takes time and it puts [1:07] unnecessary pressure [1:09] onto yourself to feel like you need to [1:11] stay [1:12] relevant burnout can happen when you [1:14] have too high stress levels and the [1:16] cortisol in your brain [1:17] blocks that ability in your brain to [1:20] actually be creative [1:21] here are some of the consequences of [1:23] creative burnout excessive stress [1:25] vulnerability to illnesses type 2 [1:27] diabetes [1:28] fatigue insomnia irritability alcohol [1:32] abuse [1:32] heart disease and high blood pressure [1:34] what are some of the warning signs [1:36] to know if you might be experiencing [1:38] creative burnout go ahead and ask [1:40] yourself [1:41] some of these questions do you like the [1:43] energy to be consistently productive [1:46] do you drag yourself to work and have [1:48] trouble getting started [1:50] have you become critical or cynical at [1:53] work [1:54] have you become irritable or impatient [1:57] with your family members [1:58] co-workers customers clients do you find [2:01] it hard to concentrate [2:04] are you troubled by unexplained stomach [2:06] pain [2:07] bowel pain physical pain headaches do [2:10] you lack [2:10] satisfaction from your own achievements [2:13] are you using food [2:14] alcohol or even drugs to feel better [2:17] also simply [2:18] not feel anything have your sleep habits [2:21] changed if you answered yes to most of [2:24] these questions [2:25] then chances are you may just be [2:27] experiencing [2:28] creative burnout my experience with [2:30] creative burnout happened sometime end [2:32] of last year [2:33] just before i went for a one month [2:34] holiday with my family to asia and [2:37] australia there was a couple of things [2:38] that contributed to [2:40] why this burnout happened for me but [2:43] basically there was [2:44] two main elements youtube and instagram [2:46] i wanted to create [2:48] content for the month ahead because i [2:51] knew that i wouldn't have time during my [2:54] holiday to [2:55] record edit and publish and so therefore [2:58] i had to prepare all my content about a [3:01] month [3:01] ahead all within a short period time of [3:03] about two weeks it was insane [3:05] also for instagram at this point of time [3:08] i [3:08] remember that there was some changes to [3:10] the algorithm [3:11] and my instagram accounts were kind of [3:14] stagnant in growth [3:16] that really gave me unnecessary pressure [3:19] so the tactic which i wanted to try in [3:21] order to [3:22] push my instagram account to grow more [3:24] was to come up with [3:26] more content so from posting two times a [3:29] week [3:29] i upped it to four times a week that [3:32] means double the time of work [3:34] double the time of trying to think of [3:36] content ideas [3:37] everything doubled stress also doubled [3:40] my symptoms of burnout were i [3:42] couldn't really fall asleep i was easily [3:44] irritable [3:45] my scalp was hurting there were pimples [3:48] it was [3:49] painful i couldn't even put my head down [3:51] sometimes to sleep properly [3:52] i wasn't feeling as creative or inspired [3:55] as i normally do [3:57] so yeah it was pretty bad here are some [4:00] of the tips which have helped [4:01] me to overcome this burnout which i [4:04] really do hope you find these tips [4:06] helpful [4:07] number one take time to socialize don't [4:10] forget that [4:10] we human beings are really social [4:13] creatures [4:14] now when you're a content creator it is [4:16] so easy to feel [4:17] isolated to feel alone you're talking to [4:19] the camera 24 7 or maybe [4:22] with your phone 24 7 you know managing [4:24] comments [4:25] creating content you're just locked up [4:26] in your room the complete day [4:28] by yourself how is it not possible to [4:32] feel [4:32] lonely as i've shared in one of my [4:34] previous videos about [4:35] having balance in your life i mentioned [4:37] about the wheel of life and if you [4:39] did watch that video and if not i'm [4:41] gonna put a link up here [4:42] what is really important is to realize [4:45] there are [4:46] certain aspects in our lives which is [4:48] really important and we cannot just [4:49] ignore it if not we will feel out of [4:52] whack and [4:52] there is no sense of balance in our [4:54] lives and one of these parts [4:56] is socializing with your friends and [4:58] your family [4:59] so please to make it a point that at [5:02] least every few days or at least [5:04] once a week block time out just to meet [5:07] your good friends or [5:08] go with your family have a good laugh [5:10] watch a nice movie have a nice meal [5:12] go for a walk whichever that it is but [5:14] take time [5:15] for socializing number two create [5:18] because it brings you meaning [5:20] not to please i completely get it maybe [5:23] you created a good [5:24] post or a good video and on this [5:27] particular post or video you get lots of [5:30] likes lots of subscribers lots of good [5:32] feedback [5:33] and we human beings we always want to [5:35] progress forwards [5:36] and upwards nobody likes to feel like [5:38] they're going backwards in terms of [5:40] progress [5:41] and so if ever we have maybe a thumbs [5:43] down [5:44] or we have some bad comments that comes [5:46] our way it's really easy to [5:48] take it personally i can understand it [5:51] but i also want to gently remind you we [5:54] can't please everyone and i've said this [5:56] a million times but it and it's true it [5:58] really it's true think about it [6:00] no two people can really always think [6:03] alike and [6:04] always agree with each other so how to [6:06] manage negative feedback [6:08] or your own expectations of yourself to [6:11] try and be [6:12] perfect number one remind yourself that [6:15] this channel [6:15] or your account whatever creative piece [6:19] that you are creating [6:20] you are creating it because you are [6:22] passionate about it [6:23] remind yourself of what your aim and [6:25] your goal is you want to help [6:27] and inspire people through your thoughts [6:29] through your experiences [6:31] through your knowledge people who share [6:33] the same values and beliefs as you [6:35] will love you and stay by you and [6:37] support you and those who don't [6:39] please don't take it personally because [6:41] the world is diverse we are all [6:43] different we all have different points [6:45] of view and it's a beautiful thing [6:47] if you look at my account you can also [6:49] see that there are some videos [6:51] okay with 100 likes which thank god [6:53] thank you very much [6:54] but there are also videos with a thumbs [6:57] down does it hurt me [6:58] yes it does to some extent but am i [7:01] gonna keep focusing [7:02] on that no because i would rather focus [7:04] on [7:05] the majority of people who are actually [7:07] loving my content and [7:08] sharing their honest feedback with me [7:10] about how my [7:12] thoughts and my content has inspired [7:14] them [7:15] to improve their channel or improve [7:17] their lives overall [7:18] try and train your brain to focus on the [7:20] good that you have created in the world [7:22] and not just on the negative feedback [7:25] number two diversify your income nothing [7:27] is certain [7:27] so try not to just focus on one source [7:30] of income [7:31] when possible try to diversify it [7:33] whether or not it's true [7:34] investing or buying property or maybe [7:37] creating merchandise or maybe selling a [7:38] book [7:39] try to diversify your income as much as [7:42] possible number three save and have [7:45] enough for a rainy day [7:46] because we never know what might happen [7:52] moving on to tip number three focus on [7:54] quality over quantity [7:56] as i shared just now one of the reasons [7:58] why i felt creative burnout was because [7:59] i was trying to turn out [8:01] too much content in a really short [8:03] period of time [8:04] yes many youtube gurus or instagram [8:07] gurus or any [8:08] social media guru will tell you that [8:10] creating more content [8:12] increases your chances of positive [8:14] growth [8:15] yes that is true but i also implore you [8:18] to [8:18] please remind yourself and think is it [8:22] really [8:22] feasible for you for me it isn't simply [8:25] because [8:26] i am a mother of one i have my [8:28] counseling business on the side so i [8:30] have [8:30] clients that i need to also manage and [8:33] also i don't always talk about this [8:36] but i actually have a part-time job [8:38] doing hr in a company [8:40] and so when you put all this together i [8:42] cannot compare myself [8:44] with a person who might be living a [8:46] single life [8:47] and doesn't have any kids is a full-time [8:50] youtuber and [8:51] just has the time and the energy to keep [8:54] on creating content [8:55] every single day is just not possible [8:58] for me i've learned my lesson [9:00] and on instagram for example i cut down [9:03] the frequency of my postings and that [9:05] has really helped my sanity [9:08] and my time management tremendously [9:10] again [9:11] please do what is feasible within your [9:13] capabilities and [9:14] stop comparing yourself to others number [9:17] four [9:18] take time to switch off this is a big [9:21] one we as content creators we are our [9:23] own boss [9:24] and so our minds are constantly switched [9:27] on [9:27] we are thinking thinking about content [9:29] ideas when do we need to pose what's our [9:31] algorithm what's our results [9:32] how does this person like my content but [9:34] hey even machines they need to recharge [9:37] and they need to be [9:38] unplugged from time to time you my dear [9:40] friend are only human [9:41] just like me just like everyone else so [9:43] if you push yourself to the limit and [9:44] you forsake [9:45] your own self-care your own health [9:48] what good will it bring you may be able [9:51] to produce more content in [9:53] this short period of time but in the [9:55] long term it will not [9:57] benefit you in any way please my dear [9:59] friends i understand you care a lot [10:01] about your accounts [10:02] you care a lot about your businesses but [10:04] at the end of the day [10:06] health is truly wealth prioritize [10:10] your mental health your physical health [10:13] above [10:14] all else because without that nothing [10:17] can work neither your private life or [10:18] your social media accounts or your [10:20] business [10:20] will work i really do hope that you [10:22] found this episode to be helpful [10:24] and if yes please do give me a thumbs up [10:26] subscribe and [10:27] share this video with any content [10:30] creator that you know [10:31] who might be experiencing creative [10:33] burnout and now let's end today with a [10:35] quote of the day [10:36] even machines need time to recharge [10:40] learn to take the necessary time to [10:42] unplug and restore yourself [10:45] because your mental health is worth it [10:48] i would like to hear from you ladies and [10:50] gentlemen do share with me what is your [10:52] experience with creative burnout [10:54] and how do you
