# How Small YouTubers Get Sponsorships (and How You Can Too)

> Source: [How Small YouTubers Get Sponsorships (and How You Can Too)](https://youtube.com/watch?v=_9qNPLw33VQ)

## Summary

Small YouTubers can secure brand deals by using a strategic pricing model based on average views, growth rate, and CPM (cost per mille). The video explains how to calculate impressions, factor in channel growth, and price different ad placements to maximize earnings.

### Key Points

- **Calculate Impressions** [0:48] — Average views per video from the last 10 videos, summed and divided by 10.
- **Channel Growth Rate** [1:15] — Growth rate over the last 6 months is more important than subscriber count; use tools like Social Blade.
- **CPM Pricing Model** [2:30] — CPM = cost per mille; price = (impressions / 1000) * CPM.
- **Placement Types and CPMs** [3:00] — Pre-roll: $45 CPM, mid-roll: $40 CPM, post-roll: $35 CPM, dedicated video: 3-5x CPM, product placement: $20 CPM.
- **Bonus Tips for Creators** [5:01] — Price for today's value but factor in growth potential; consider commission shares; explain editing costs.

### Conclusion

Small YouTubers can get brand deals by using a CPM-based pricing model that accounts for average views, growth rate, and placement type. Transparency and long-term thinking help secure deals.

## Transcript

did you know that small YouTubers even
ones with small follower accounts can
get brand deals and have you ever
wondered how much you can get paid for a
brand deal in this video I want to share
with you the pricing model that you can
use the brands are willing to pay even
if you have a small subscriber account
so stick around by the end of this video
you should be aware of the industry
standards and maximize your earnings
with the right pricing
[Music]
strategy all right welcome to today's
episode for those of you listen on the
podcast come check out YouTube and for
those of you on YouTube check out the
podcast because we've got both platforms
rocking and today's video is going to be
all about pricing strategies now my name
is Joey Valor for partner of profits I
work with Brands to help them work with
influencers and I also help influencers
get brand deals just like you so today
we're going to talk about that even if
you have a small Channel we're going to
start with Point number one Impressions
what are Impressions it's your average
views you get consistently on each video
and how do you figure that out do you
look at the last video do you look at
the last 20 30 typically Brands what I
recommend is look at the last 10 videos
tally up those 10 videos and the view
counts and then dividing by 10 that
should give you your average view count
per video as it stands today you need
that number in order to determine the
pricing in The Next Step so make sure to
go do that now pause the video come back
number two is your Channel's growth rate
percentage even more important than
subscriber counts is how fast is your
Channel Growing because if you have
5,000 followers today or views and you
grew over the past 6 months by 50%
that's going to continue to grow and
that's what a brand should be aware of
it's not necessarily how big your
channel is how fast you're growing your
growth rate can become very valuable and
for Brands looking at YouTubers again I
suggest looking at the growth rate which
you can calculate by looking at the last
6 months growth if you go to something
like socialblade.com or something
similar you can go to free analytic
tools like this and you can figure this
out and it's important to know that as a
Creator because that gives you fuel when
you're going into your negotiations that
yeah you have a small Channel but you're
showing a lot of potential now the
amount of money that you can make varies
significantly depending on the placement
opportunities and the strategies that
you use whether it's mid-roll pre-rolls
Etc but there's some more creative
places you can actually start to
advertise and monetize and those views
and Impressions add up which means more
money for you the Creator and listen
we're not going to get into that in this
video but there is a whole playlist on
how to get more brand deals even if you
have a small channel so check somewhere
in the description or somewhere in this
video there's going to be a link to the
next video which is going to be all the
placement opportunities that I recommend
as the prime real estate number three is
actually how do you price your
impressions so the way that the market
usually dictates a price it's called CPM
cost per Mill now what they do is they
take whatever impression count it is
whether it's how many emails are sent
how many views you get on a video you
divide by th000 and you multiply by a
factor of a CPM so cpms now you know
that you can go and start to understand
this next part which is how do you
charge cpms per placement opportunities
we're going to cover the most popular
ones right now that you might be aware
of but there's pre-roll mid-roll post
rolls dedicated videos and product
placements pre-roll ads are as they all
suggest of course they're at the
beginning of the video and they're
around $45 CPM now this can vary
depending on the Creator depending on
the brand so take this with a bit of a
grain of salt but know that these are
the most Prime real estate placements
because they're the beginning of the
video where people are typically
watching mid roll ads it's still
valuable they're still engaged
potentially and you know especially if
you have really good content you can
still charge on $40 CPM for that now the
next one is post roll this is like the
least significant Because by the end of
the video people have probably tapered
off and it's probably not 100% watch
time on all your videos so it's usually
$35 CPM and again don't take these
numbers so literally just know that
pre-roll is the prime placements mid
roll is the second best placement and
end roll typically is the lowest
placement then you have dedicated video
now this is the cream of the crop
placement for any kind of brand because
they have a whole video it could be a
five 10-minute review video on the
product it could be other ways that you
monetize this video of terms of how to
explain the product in a different way
but your only focus is the product and
that brand and their business so you can
get creative on how you roll this out
but you can typically charge like a 5x
CPM so imagine if it's a $50 CPM if it's
a product video placement review video
type thing you're charging around
anywhere from 3 to 5x that amount
because of the amount of editing and
time it's going to take and then you
have product placements now this is just
like when you have a product in the
video maybe you're not mentioning it
maybe you are but it's not a real big
Focus you're not spending a lot of time
talking it through these are lower
values like $20 cpms and again don't
take it literally as to how much you
should charge although this is a good
starting point all right so if you do
have a small Channel and if you're a
brand looking at a YouTuber with a small
Channel and you look at the Impressions
and it doesn't seem like you have a lot
of money to make don't worry because
there's also factors you have to
consider when you're sponsoring somebody
on YouTube or if you're asking a brand
to sponsor you now let's talk about some
bonus tips because again you might have
a really small Channel today and you
might be thinking I can't even charge a
CPM that's worth it it might be like 50
bucks today for a video 100 bucks first
off don't get caught up in that know
that a sponsor leads to new sponsors
opportunity leads to new opportunity and
for the brand side of things consider
the micro creators are growing so
getting in on the ground floor with them
is a lot easier than people who have
millions of followers already they're
already picked over you can't get in so
start the treat micro creators with more
respect and here are the bonus tips I
have for the Creator side price for your
today value you can't lie about your
viewers right they can see that Brands
can see it it's easy anyone can see it
it's public knowledge so price for your
today value but factor in what's your
growth how fast are you growing I'd put
that forth and I'd bake that into the
cost a bit because if they lock in a
deal today and they only release a video
for or 6 months later or 12 months the
price is going to change your viewership
is going to go up so you want a price
for today value but factoring your
growth potential the next bonus tip is
consider a commission share first off
Brands like to hear this and they'll
offer longer term deals for these types
of things plus you get to make a
longtail dividend on that commission
from your videos and your viewership
going up over time so consider a
commission share and then explain the
editing cost I like to always bake that
in kind of like hey Brand I'd love to
work with you on this video This is
where my impressions are this my CPM is
but I have these editing costs and I'd
love to do a bigger video for you and
more production value could we factor
that into the cost here's what my hard
costs are be transparent be honest be
upfront Brands appreciate this and
you're more likely to sign a longer term
deal with communication like this so
hopefully took away something from this
episode that helps you now position
yourself to a brand to possibly get your
first brand deal that makes me excited I
hope it makes you excited and Brands
please do not disregard the small micro
creators okay they're valuable they're
growing they're hungry you want to work
with them now you know the pricing
strategy so you can maximize your
earnings with YouTube brand deals but if
you wonder like I don't know what are
the places I can sell on my YouTube
channel we talked about a few today but
there's 10 really good placements that
you can monetize to increase your CPM
cost across all these monetization
platforms so you're going to want to
