[0:00] I learned Live2d in a single day. [0:01] And you can do. [0:03] Why would I want to learn Live2d in 24 hours? [0:05] Well, that's because the other day when I went to rig my brand new Vtuber [0:09] model, I opened up my Live2d program and saw this. [0:13] So now I only have 24 hours left to rig my brand new model. [0:18] But isn't Live2d hard? [0:20] Doesn't it take months to do a full body rig? [0:22] That's why I'm paying thousands of dollars for professionals to rig my VTuber [0:26] model instead, right? [0:28] Well, I used to think that too, until I got a message from Coloso (today’s [0:31] sponsor) asking if I like to take their Live2d course for free. [0:34] It's only 13 hours long in runtime being taught by Kutata. [0:38] A Live2d modeling professional, [0:40] which means that I should be able to learn Live2d in 24 hours or less. [0:44] So with that being said, how hard can Live2d really be? [0:49] So the first thing I had to do was set up my PSD, [0:52] and right after watching Kutata’s first video in this Live2d course. [0:56] I realized that my PSD was not set up for rigging. [0:59] Basically, I had to reorganize and rename my layers and do some minor cutting. [1:03] But thankfully, Kutata provided me with two examples for basic and advanced [1:07] layer cutting for your PSD. [1:08] I decided to download the basic one because I didn't [1:11] want to spend too much time focusing on a highly detailed model [1:14] and just getting the minimum amount done took me 3 hours to do so. [1:19] Thankfully, my artist was kind enough to send me an updated version of my PSD, [1:22] which helped me work on it a lot faster, but I didn't realize how important and [1:26] time consuming it is just to have to set up and cut the art properly. [1:30] Like, man, this 24 hour challenge is not going as planned, [1:35] and I haven't even loaded the program yet. [1:38] Now you might be wondering, [1:39] Mari, why’s it such a big deal if you lose the pro trial of cubism? [1:43] And that's because the free version of Live2d cubism [1:46] really limits your ability in what you can do for rigging. [1:49] Besides, I've always wanted to learn Live2D [1:52] Because you can do some really cool things with it. [1:55] And I have some crazy video ideas for different types of content [1:58] that would be a lot easier for me to do if I knew how to rig VTuber models. Duh. [2:02] Also, I had this pro trial for 42 days and I didn't do anything with it. [2:07] I literally felt like I wasted a lot of time [2:10] and this seemed like a fun challenge to finally start learning. [2:13] Now I'm not a complete beginner [2:15] for Live2d. [2:16] I have attempted to learn live2D before and I wasn't the happiest [2:20] with the results. [2:21] So this is my second time [2:22] trying to actually learn the program and I'm not going to give up this time. [2:29] Once I finally got my PSD sorted [2:31] and loaded everything into Live2D, it was time for me to start rigging. [2:35] (Haha JK). [2:36] Why would I actually do any Live2d rigging in this Live2d rigging [2:40] challenge video, right? [2:42] It was actually time for me to start working on my art meshes. [2:47] Now, originally I was going to automesh everything to save time, [2:51] but after watching some of Kutata’s videos, I learned some really cool [2:55] techniques and shortcuts on making my own custom mesh for my model. [2:59] Making my own custom made for certain parts was going to come in handy later [3:03] on, as you'll see in the video. Plus, I don't know. [3:06] There's just something therapeutic watching my VTuber get slowly [3:09] swallowed into the void of just *Mari zones out* Anyways, [3:14] this also took longer than I was expecting because I had to take some time [3:18] studying the example file and taking notes to help better understand the concept of [3:22] Live2d modeling. I know, right? Studying. [3:25] I actually studied in this challenge for you.? [3:28] Like. Yes, I did. You know. [3:30] Did you know that when you connect three dots, you get a triangle, [3:33] the smallest geometric unit [3:35] that your computer can read, and when you put them all together, [3:37] you get this and then you can do things like this?! [3:40] Anyways, it took me about 2 hours to finish this part, [3:42] which means I'm already 5 hours into this challenge [3:45] and I haven't even started rigging my model yet. [3:48] Why do I take so much time [3:50] to have everything before I actually started rigging? [3:53] Well, because remember how I said [3:58] making my own custom art mesh was going to come in handy later on? [4:02] Well, I realized midway through during this challenge [4:05] that not separating your model correctly can cause stuff like this to happen. [4:10] That's right. [4:10] Welcome to Live2d rigging Hell. Hell [4:15] implement. [4:16] I taught you how you got to article. [4:18] Don't come to school eat political catwalk all the time. [4:22] One joke furniture and it was me that gained a lot of standing. [4:24] And since what we all So, rigging the eyes should be the easiest right? [4:28] Well, my eye looks a lot different than his, so [4:31] it took me a little longer to get my eyes to look left and right of course. [4:34] Actually, I had to look up a lot of 90’s anime references to get [4:38] the general aesthetics right for my model, but I learned this cool little time [4:42] saving tip that Kutata showed me and I have saved a lot of time [4:44] by not having to rework each left and right side. [4:47] Now there are episodes I watched later on in this class [4:50] that showed me more advanced techniques on rigging these elements. [4:53] But I'm trying to get this done within 24 hours before my trial expires. [4:57] And I wanted to get my eye and mouth rigging done as fast as possible [5:01] because the next thing I had to rig that I really wasn't looking forward [5:05] to, where the face angles. [5:06] Now how could that possibly be? [5:10] Oh I [5:13] struggled so much on this part because I am so smooth brained. [5:17] You would think that rigging your face [5:18] to look left and right would be simple, right? [5:21] Wrong. [5:22] It is literally the most difficult thing to rig correctly. [5:26] I only had 17 hours left in this challenge. [5:28] That's almost a halfway mark and I obviously know I can't have these [5:31] super cool, edgy, high end turn angles [5:34] for my model because that does take a lot of time and effort. [5:37] But even just doing a simple left and right turn took me almost 3 hours. [5:42] You know, looking at all of this, I think my biggest problem [5:45] I was having during this challenge was that I'm a literal perfectionist [5:48] and I keep trying to make everything look good the first time. [5:52] But then when I would go check out my model, [5:54] it felt like I was treading into the uncanny valley. [5:58] I don't know. [5:59] This took me so long and I was getting really frustrated and hungry. [6:03] So I decided to take a break to get some boba, [6:06] and I watched more of Kutata’s videos and took more notes. [6:09] And all of a sudden I heard him saying this- [6:16] At first I didn't really understand what this meant. [6:19] But as I went on throughout this challenge, [6:21] I realize how much of a foreshadowing this was because it ended up [6:24] becoming the biggest lesson [6:26] I learned in this entire class, which is stop being a perfectionist. [6:30] Like it's okay to want to make something look good, right? [6:32] But that doesn’t mean it has to be perfect. [6:34] And when you think about how much time [6:35] I spent working on this part, you know, getting angry and upset at myself [6:38] because I'm a complete beginner and Live2d. [6:40] It made me realize that I need to stop focusing so much [6:45] on the minor details and actually look at the bigger picture. [6:48] Because when I export to the model, just to test everything out in VTube Studio, [6:52] you know, to make sure nothing was broken, the model actually looked really cool [6:56] and I didn't even work on any physics for it yet. [6:58] So they kind of brighten up my mood a bit. [7:00] Want to keep going and working on this challenge, [7:02] try to get some full body movement and physics done before the 24 hour mark. [7:05] Also, you know, it's never really good to be sitting at your desk [7:09] for extended periods of time, right? [7:10] It can really affect your productivity and health. [7:14] And I think that started happening to me because at one point I literally just kept [7:18] rewinding every couple of minutes of Kutata’s video [7:21] just to see how he specifically rigged certain parts. [7:24] And thankfully, after so many corrections, and rewinding Kutata’s video [7:28] over and over again. [7:29] I was finally done rigging the face angles and stuff for my VTuber model. [7:33] So what's next? [7:37] Finally, [7:38] something that didn't take me an hour long. [7:41] Honestly, the body was pretty straightforward [7:43] because I didn't have a lot of movement [7:44] to my body because- Okay, so get this, you know how so many Live2d riggers [7:48] swear on Twitter that you need to separate the leg into three different parts. [7:52] To get nice leg movement? [7:53] Well as it turns out, you don’t need to do all of that. [7:55] So I just copied what Kutata’s model looked like it only took me [7:59] about 30 minutes to finish making all of the body movements I wanted. [8:02] So now, that means it’s time for physics! [8:07] Now you can do a lot of cool things of physics, but honestly, [8:11] who cares about any of that? [8:13] Because we all know the most important thing that everyone cares about, [8:16] and that is how Boing boing, Your VTuber’s Boing Boings are. [8:20] If you know what I'm saying. [8:22] So if I just focus on that, then I'll get this challenge [8:25] done- And well, as it turns out, you can't really do a much with booba [8:29] if you don't have much booba to work with. [8:32] So I guess I'll just go work on normal physics stuff now. [8:36] And at this point, [8:37] after I finished some basic physics, I started getting really tired, [8:41] you know, probably from all the lack of nutrition, [8:44] from only consuming Boba several hours ago. [8:47] So I went to go make noms and ended the challenge at 13 hours [8:51] because I needed my beauty sleep, as cat girls do. [8:54] And the results? Well, you tell me how it looks. [8:59] I think I did a pretty [9:00] great job doing a basic rig myself in less than 24 hours. [9:03] It's not the same quality as my current model, of course, [9:07] but this was a really great chance for me to learn the fundamentals of Live2d [9:11] and enhance my current knowledge of the program. [9:14] Now that this challenge is finally over and I had more time to finish watching [9:18] and studying the rest of the class material, I can safely say that a lot of [9:22] tutorials on Live2d that I've watched on YouTube are kind of mid. [9:26] Like, don't get me wrong, [9:27] they're all made by amazing Live2d modelers, but [9:31] I really struggle learning a lot about Live2d for years [9:35] because every tutorial I watch either lacked consistency, [9:38] proper subtitling, or they weren't very beginner friendly. [9:41] Like a lot of the stuff you see here on YouTube is very nuanced [9:44] and unless if you’re very familiar with the program. [9:46] Then a lot of the things that I tried [9:49] learning just didn't make sense to my smooth brain. [9:51] I think learning from others is so useful for improving your own creations. [9:55] However, if you're a smooth brain like me, [9:58] then you probably struggle learning from others. [10:00] If it's not explained well enough. [10:01] And I don't know, [10:02] I feel like I actually learned a lot more about life today [10:05] and making vertebrate models in this 13 hour class [10:08] than the last two years I spent watching YouTube tutorials. [10:12] Plus, it feels kind of nice to learn from someone who's an actual professional [10:15] in the field. [10:17] I often find myself struggling to stay motivated starting new projects [10:20] like this because I'm not a professional all like [10:24] I don't always know where to start things and I don't know. [10:28] I just feel like I'm always getting lost with so much information [10:31] being flooded into my brain. [10:32] Like, my head empty, okay? [10:34] I'm really thankful for Colosso for sponsoring today's video [10:37] and letting me take this Live2d class because now I feel a lot more confident [10:42] in my abilities to take on big projects like this. [10:45] I'm really proud of myself [10:46] for getting this much work done on my VTuber model within 24 hours. [10:50] It isn’t high quality, but who doesn't like little scuff in their VTuber? [10:54] So if you made it this far into the video then congrats. [10:57] You get a cookie. [10:58] And if you'd like to take the same class as me, [11:00] then you can click on the link to the course down below and you can use [11:03] code ‘MariYume’ to receive $30 off of your first order. [11:06] Also, even if you aren't interested in Live2d, Colosso has a ton [11:10] of other courses for all different kinds of subjects like illustration, [11:13] 3D modeling, pixel art, character concept creation, you name it. [11:17] I remember when I first found out about Colosso from an artist [11:20] YouTube channel named Ergojosh, and I've tried a few other illustration [11:23] courses before, you know, unsponsored of course [11:25] and they were really well-made courses by very reputable artists. [11:29] So of course, when Colosso asked to work with me on this project, I instantly said [11:33] yes because I knew it was going to be high quality content and I love my content. [11:38] Now, usually this would be the part of the video [11:40] where I would say leave me a comment down below [11:42] on any questions you might have about the course or Live2d, [11:45] but I actually want to answer some common questions [11:48] I think some of you watching might have because some of you like to spam the exact [11:53] same question over and over again, and it makes me feel like I'm talking [11:56] to a virtual wall. [11:58] Oh, wait- Are these classes a subscription? [12:02] No, these are not subscription based. [12:04] You pay for the entire class and receive all the video and class files [12:07] associated with it. How user friendly is interface? [12:10] It's very friendly. [12:11] At first I kind of struggled to get my videos to load properly, [12:14] but once I downloaded their video player software, it work just fine to me [12:17] so I don't have any issues using the website. [12:18] And lastly, is it worth it? [12:20] Well, I can't tell you if it's worth it or not, [12:23] since at the end of the day it's your money and your choice. [12:25] But let me put it to you in this perspective that might help [12:28] answer this question for you. [12:29] You can always make more money, but you can never make more time. [12:34] Time is going to be the most valuable currency you spend in life. [12:38] And do you really want to spend the precious time you have left [12:42] feeling frustrated, burned out and dissatisfied with your current work? [12:45] I know I didn’t, [12:47] and even though I got this course for free, [12:49] you better believe I would have bought this the moment [12:51] when live because there is no way I would have gotten this challenge completed [12:55] just by sifting through YouTube videos hoping to find the right tutorial. [12:59] Like look at this. [13:00] I actually did it. [13:02] I completed the challenge. [13:03] I really didn't think I was going to be able to do it, but [13:06] this class really helped me a lot and understanding the concepts of Live2d [13:10] and why certain techniques work with VTuber models and like I said, [13:14] if you like to take the same class as me, [13:15] then you can click on the link to the course down below and you can use [13:19] code “MariYume” to receive $30 off your first class. [13:22] And with that I'd like to say once again thank you to Colossal [13:25] for sponsoring this video. [13:26] And if you like these kind of Live2d [13:28] rigging challenge videos, then I don't know, subscribe or something baka. [13:32] Thanks for watching [13:33] and feel free to check out my other VTuber videos on my channel. [13:36] Oyasumi.
