[00:00] What will happen in a drag race between a Lamborghini Huracan Performante and a BMW M2? Which isn't much of a M2 because it's actually a Red Bull drift car. It's an 1100 All Star. Anyway, we're going to find out by racing them over the stunning Corso Mall.
[00:13] I'm Matt Watson, you're watching CarWant. Let me tell you about that Red Bull drift car. So it's got an S58 BMW 3.0L straight six, but instead of two turbos it's just got one.
[00:25] But it's a massive turbo, which means that you've got 1100 horsepower and 1200 Nm of torque so it's rear wheels only by a 5 speed sequential gearbox quite like that car, racing at about 1.5 tonnes
[00:37] so it's going to be quick isn't it? although how quick I'm not sure because it's a drift car which means it's designed to spin up its wheels which isn't ideal in a launch whereas this car has got 4.0 drive it's got 5.2 litre, naturally aspirated V10 640 horsepower, 600 Nm, 7 seat dual clutch auto, launch control
[00:53] a bit heavier than that and racing at this much what's going to happen? Let's have a drag race and find out. Pause the video now to compare the stuff in these cars side by side. I am ready for a drag race. Are you ready for a drag race, Elias?

[04:55] Drift cars aren't known for braking well. In fact your brake distance is smaller than standard. Correct, they are smaller. We save some weight because we don't need the brakes. We normally brake by going sideways. That's why we make them as small as possible, as light as possible.
[05:08] You're going to enjoy this then, not?
[05:25] Oh, it was rubbish! Oh dear! Oh, poor you, Elias. That was terrible. Yes, yes. Prips just don't know how to brake in a straight line and the car is not built for that.
[05:41] I didn't even need to try. I could have just slowed down using the engine braking alone by the looks of that. Right, let's get to the drag race now. Before we race, Elias, let's do a sound check, see which car sounds the best. I'm going to rev up my V10.
[05:55] Yeah, quite good, quite good. Now the three sticks, first without anti-leg.
[06:09] Kind of boring, isn't it? But now with anti-leg. Oh, you were mad. Can you win the drag race? Well, if you want, go do a donut round the car while I donut bush.

[08:40] So this will be very embarrassing. I'm in a normal M2. I have a mere 480 horsepower and 600 Newton meters of torque. I do have launch control but my car's rear wheel drive like yours.
[08:52] If you lose now I think you need to resign and maybe get work in a library. I feel the pressure man. I feel the pressure. but let's see what I can do I'm a tiny town in the middle of a business
[09:04] and I'm thinking of this guy's skills and I'm thinking of the title of the film here I didn't catch any of that but I think you said yes I will resign and become a librarian because that's actually been my second dream job

[12:54] You just needed an extra 10 metres, but you didn't have it, so you lost. Unfortunately, but it was close, wasn't it?
[13:06] I thought you might have me, but you just ran out of room. And there we go. So then, what exactly happened? Well, the Lamborghini just beat the drift car by the narrowest of margins, but they both completed the standing course of the mark in 10.6 seconds.
[13:20] the standard BMW M2's best time was 11.8 seconds. I will go back, practice my start, practice my throttle application in first year and do some engineering stuff to the car and hopefully come back at some point.
[13:35] Yeah, I think you might need to do quite a bit of engineering and move it from a drift car which is all about no traction to a drag racer which is all about traction.
