[0:00] hello you guys what is up welcome back [0:01] to my channel [0:03] we've got a matcha i hope that you loved [0:05] last week's video [0:06] i was so excited to create it editing it [0:10] was a heck of a process but like the [0:12] final product i was so incredibly proud [0:14] i felt like it was such helpful [0:15] information [0:16] and if you guys did not watch that video [0:18] i really recommend that you watch that [0:19] first because that talks about [0:20] management teams why i have a manager [0:23] the benefits of having a manager [0:24] how payment works like how do they get [0:26] paid and then how do i get paid with [0:28] sponsorships it's just so incredibly [0:30] good it's definitely long so if you got [0:32] some patience [0:33] stick with it but it is so so incredibly [0:35] informative so today [0:36] let me take a sip today we are going to [0:39] be talking about [0:40] how sponsorships work in terms of the [0:43] timeline [0:44] setting up a sponsorship actually [0:45] creating the content getting it reviewed [0:47] and just like the whole entire process [0:49] until we get the finished product [0:51] of you guys actually seeing the video or [0:53] the instagram photo instagram story [0:54] whatever it is that is sponsored [0:56] specifically in this video i'm gonna [0:58] talk about youtube videos because that's [1:00] what i have experience on [1:01] and that's mainly my audience here is [1:03] filled with a lot of youtubers so let's [1:05] just go ahead and get into it [1:12] [Music] [1:14] sponsorships i feel like they are just [1:17] this giant [1:18] mystery that not a lot of people talk [1:20] about and full transparency guys with [1:22] every sponsorship that i do [1:24] i do sign a contract and within there it [1:26] does say what i can and can't talk about [1:28] and there are certain areas that i can't [1:30] discuss such as how much i get paid per [1:32] sponsorship [1:33] not going to be talking about that in [1:34] this video and if you have no idea what [1:36] a sponsorship is a company will pay you [1:37] a flat rate to have an ad slot within [1:39] your content and this is totally [1:41] different from affiliate marketing so if [1:43] you've ever heard me talk about that [1:44] before [1:45] with affiliate marketing you will get a [1:46] custom trackable link if someone clicks [1:48] on that link and completes a successful [1:50] sale then you will get paid it is [1:52] commission based compared to with [1:54] sponsorships yes it can [1:55] include affiliate marketing but you get [1:57] paid a flat rate to have a specific ad [1:59] slot within your content [2:01] just from an upper level how the heck do [2:03] sponsorships work so from the very [2:05] beginning either a company is going to [2:06] reach out to you or your manager or you [2:08] are going to reach out to a company [2:10] about doing a possible sponsorship now [2:12] we talked about this in the management [2:14] video so definitely watch that but [2:16] having a brand reach out to you is [2:18] really preference because they already [2:19] have a budget and they're already [2:21] looking for influencers to sponsor so [2:23] that's a really great way to get started [2:24] with sponsorships and also get good [2:26] sponsorships [2:27] and from there guys there's a lot of [2:30] negotiating there's a lot of talking [2:32] before a contract is even signed so [2:34] you're going to talk about the price [2:36] what is included in the price so like [2:37] what are you actually going to deliver [2:39] the deliverables [2:40] youtube video instagram stories [2:42] instagram posts tick tock whatever it is [2:44] you need to figure out what is going to [2:46] be created how much is going to be [2:48] charged for that as well as what is then [2:50] going to go in the contract [2:52] no contract is signed until all of the [2:54] negotiation and that whole entire [2:55] process is done [2:56] and this is one of the reasons why i [2:58] love having a management team so much [2:59] because [3:00] they do all of the negotiating they will [3:02] come to me with what a brand is willing [3:03] to pay or what [3:04] they are trying to work out with a [3:07] company and i will say yep that sounds [3:09] good it fits into my content calendar or [3:11] no i think we should actually be [3:12] charging more or maybe we could also [3:14] throw in this i [3:15] am yes in the know of what is going on [3:17] but i [3:18] am not sending all of those emails back [3:20] and forth and managers are just so [3:22] incredibly great i am so thankful for [3:24] mine [3:24] i just i appreciate them and all of the [3:27] planning that they have to do to make [3:28] sponsorships even happen but [3:30] once the negotiating is done everything [3:32] is decided upon [3:34] then we get a contract now during the [3:36] negotiation phase [3:37] you will see a contract ahead of time to [3:39] know if there is anything that you want [3:41] to change so i review all of my [3:43] contracts myself [3:44] and this is just personal preference for [3:46] me you guys can have your management [3:47] team do it just to cover my own butt [3:49] guys like i like to look over all of my [3:51] own contracts so [3:52] i will review the contract if my [3:53] management team or i have something that [3:55] we want to change or even if the brand [3:56] has something that they want to change [3:58] we will discuss it before the final [3:59] contract is given out and then it is [4:01] signed by both parties so [4:03] i will sign it as well as the company [4:05] that i am working with and [4:06] i feel like that beginning part is not [4:09] the most fun [4:10] and if you are setting up your [4:11] sponsorships and your brand deals all on [4:13] your own [4:14] it is a decent amount of work that [4:15] you're probably not used to if you've [4:17] never done it before and it can take [4:19] weeks it can take [4:20] months to actually agree upon the terms [4:23] of a sponsorship before it actually [4:25] happens so [4:25] that whole process is a lot [4:29] and can't be ignored but i feel like [4:31] what you guys probably want to know more [4:32] about [4:33] is actually the creating content side of [4:35] things now you're probably so excited to [4:37] start creating this content get that [4:39] sponsored post so you can get [4:40] paid in reality the first step is you [4:43] need to come up with your concept your [4:45] post idea [4:46] and get it approved by the brand so [4:47] depending on the brand they may ask for [4:50] several different concepts and then they [4:51] get to choose the one that they want to [4:53] move forward with but most of the time [4:54] what i do is i will come up with a [4:56] general title or [4:57] kind of like a rough draft of what i [4:59] think the title is going to be and then [5:00] some bullet points of what the video is [5:02] going to be and how i'm going to include [5:04] that sponsorship because you guys may [5:06] notice with the sponsorships that i do [5:08] all of them relate to the video it's not [5:10] like i'm creating a video like this and [5:11] then i'm talking about my skincare you [5:13] know like that doesn't [5:14] really flow it doesn't make sense so i [5:16] try to [5:17] come up with video ideas that are very [5:19] specific to the sponsorships that it [5:21] flows really well together [5:23] and it just makes a lot of sense for not [5:25] only you guys my audience [5:26] and the brand that i'm working with it's [5:28] going to be most powerful for them [5:29] if i do that so i will send over the [5:31] concept idea rough title [5:33] outline some brands ask for a couple [5:36] different options so i will do that and [5:37] then once it is approved or [5:39] we kind of work through like the final [5:41] draft of what the video is going to be [5:43] then it is finally time to start [5:44] creating content but if we back it up a [5:46] little bit [5:47] when you decide what kind of content you [5:50] are creating for the sponsored post so [5:51] whether [5:52] it's on instagram an instagram story [5:53] real igtv you guys know all of the [5:55] options available [5:56] with youtube typically you decide on the [5:58] length of time that the ad is going to [6:00] be so is it going to be a 30 second [6:02] shout out or is it going to be [6:03] a four minute clip within your youtube [6:05] video and that's really important for [6:07] you to know [6:07] typically brands will give you a list of [6:10] talking points or certain things that [6:11] they would like you to mention during [6:13] the ad [6:13] possibly things that they don't want you [6:15] to mention during the ad and that is [6:16] also helpful when you are coming up with [6:18] what you are going to say [6:20] i feel like you guys should have seen [6:21] this coming but it's time to create the [6:23] ad [6:23] so this section of the video is [6:25] sponsored by epidemic sound [6:27] if you guys haven't heard me talk about [6:28] epidemic sound before i honestly don't [6:30] know where you've been i've been using [6:31] this platform for [6:32] well over a year to find all of my [6:34] copyright free music as well as sound [6:36] effects that i include within my youtube [6:37] videos so if you are new to epidemic [6:39] sound basically what it is it's a [6:41] platform where you can find royalty-free [6:42] music because we are not about getting [6:44] copyrighted over here and [6:46] their library is so easy to use and [6:48] navigate if you know a general [6:50] vibe that you want to go for for your [6:51] piece of content so let's say it's [6:53] sad or happy you can search based off of [6:56] mood you can also search based off of [6:57] genre [6:58] and my favorite feature that i know i've [7:00] shared before if you find a song that [7:02] you like there's actually an option [7:03] where you can click on just one little [7:05] button [7:05] and it's going to populate other similar [7:07] songs so if you're like oh i like this [7:09] song but it's not perfect you can click [7:11] on the [7:11] find similar option and it's going to [7:14] generate a whole list [7:15] of other songs you can check out so you [7:17] can find the perfect perfect song for [7:19] your piece of content but i know a lot [7:20] of you guys are youtubers you have your [7:22] own youtube channel and you would [7:23] probably only need the personal plan [7:25] which if you use the link included in [7:26] the description bar down below you get a [7:28] one month free trial so you can try it [7:30] out [7:30] if you like it then you can sign up for [7:32] their personal plan which is just 15 [7:34] a month it's really not that much and [7:35] you can cancel at any time if you get to [7:37] a point where you do need to cancel that [7:39] is an option for you and one of the [7:40] questions i've gotten asked before is [7:42] well what happens if i cancel am i then [7:44] going to get copyrighted and the answer [7:46] is [7:47] no during that time when you were a [7:48] member the pieces of content that you [7:50] created those are considered white [7:51] listed and they will not [7:53] get copyright strikes it's just if you [7:55] continue to use their music in the [7:56] future then you may run into problems [7:58] but if there are any of you out there [7:59] that are freelancers or if you are [8:01] creators that create content for clients [8:03] the commercial plan may actually be more [8:05] beneficial for you because you can get [8:07] clearance based off of the content that [8:09] you are creating for clients so when [8:11] they [8:11] upload it they are not getting copyright [8:13] strikes so thank you so much to epidemic [8:15] sound for sponsoring this video if you [8:16] guys want to try it out for yourself [8:18] definitely click the link in the [8:19] description bar down below and get [8:20] started with a one month free trial you [8:22] can cancel at any time so you might as [8:24] well [8:24] give it a shot try it out thank me later [8:27] with your piece of sponsored content [8:28] created [8:29] it's time for it to go in the review [8:31] process and guys the timeline of [8:33] sponsorships [8:34] may be longer than you think and you may [8:36] have actually heard of other youtubers [8:38] sharing that like they had to miss an [8:39] upload because the sponsored video was [8:40] supposed to go live but it didn't get [8:42] approval or something else [8:43] you need to plan out your content ahead [8:46] of time [8:46] with sponsorships to make sure that you [8:48] have enough time to go through that [8:50] review process and if there [8:51] are edits or corrections that you need [8:53] to make and then get it reviewed again [8:54] you need to make sure that you have that [8:56] time there so typically i film my [8:58] youtube videos one week in advance of [9:00] them going live but with sponsored [9:01] videos i typically have to film them two [9:03] weeks ahead of time or even more [9:05] depending on the agreed-upon timeline [9:08] with the brand and this is something [9:09] that you need to figure out ahead of [9:10] time because you do not want to be at a [9:12] point where [9:13] you're scrambling to get the final edits [9:15] done and have them reviewed [9:17] so that the video can go live on your [9:19] uploading schedule that's just not [9:20] something you want to deal with so [9:22] have a timeline figured out ahead of [9:24] time create your content way in advance [9:26] and what you're going to do is get it [9:27] reviewed by the brand [9:28] and depending on what platform or what [9:31] kind of content it is the review process [9:33] is going to be different but [9:34] specifically for youtube videos what i [9:36] do [9:36] is i will take the edited video and [9:38] upload it to youtube like i normally do [9:40] when i want to schedule a youtube video [9:42] to go live so i will add the appropriate [9:44] title [9:45] the final draft of what the title is [9:46] going to be i will add in the [9:48] description the things that i need to [9:49] add so [9:50] within the top fold is there anything [9:51] that i need to include for that [9:53] sponsorship such as a link or [9:55] specific wording that the brand wants [9:57] there i also need to include the ftc [9:59] disclaimer because guys you need to [10:01] disclose that your videos are sponsored [10:03] within what you [10:03] are saying but also in your description [10:05] and you also need to check the box that [10:07] says that your video includes a paid [10:09] promotion so with all of that [10:11] done i will then make the video unlisted [10:13] i will send it over to my management [10:15] team my management team will send it [10:16] over to the brand the brand will [10:18] come back with if it is approved and [10:19] it's good to go or if there are some [10:21] corrections that need to be made [10:22] there are corrections that need to be [10:23] made i then go back to final cut pro [10:26] make the corrections upload it to [10:27] youtube do the exact same thing make it [10:29] unlisted send it back to the brand and [10:31] if you [10:32] go through that process a couple of [10:33] times guys that is why you need to [10:35] create your content ahead of time and [10:37] you need to know that schedule so that [10:38] you don't miss an upload because of a [10:40] sponsored video [10:41] not being approved in time so at that [10:43] point i [10:44] am done i will schedule the youtube [10:46] video for the day that it is meant to go [10:48] live [10:48] and that's really it if you guys watch [10:50] the video with my management team you [10:52] would know that they actually send out [10:54] all of my invoices collect [10:55] payment and then i get paid through them [10:57] the payment process doesn't happen until [10:59] after the piece of content goes live and [11:01] something you guys should know [11:02] is that within your contract it is going [11:04] to say how payment works and if it is [11:06] net 30 [11:06] net 16 net 90 whatever it is you should [11:09] know that because [11:10] it could be a month two months three [11:12] months before you actually get paid for [11:13] your sponsorship so you think oh i'm [11:15] gonna create a sponsored video and i'm [11:16] gonna get paid that day or that week [11:18] it's in your contract so you need to pay [11:20] attention to that but that is it [11:22] in terms of the timeline and just how [11:24] sponsorships work in general obviously [11:26] there's so much more that goes into [11:27] sponsorships with pitching brands and [11:29] the negotiating and even looking into [11:31] contracts guys like there is a lot that [11:33] goes into it but just in terms of the [11:34] timeline [11:35] and just like kind of bird's eye view [11:38] i guess you could say of how [11:39] sponsorships work that's it so i hope [11:41] you guys like this video if you did make [11:42] sure you give it a thumbs up and [11:43] subscribe to my channel down below let [11:45] me know what other topics you guys want [11:46] me to talk about in terms of the [11:48] business side of youtube getting paid on [11:50] youtube whatever it is let me know and [11:52] i'll create those for you guys but [11:53] otherwise i'm out of here [11:54] bye guys [11:56] [Music] [12:10] you
