[00:03] Amazefitit Cheetah 2 Pro isn't exactly Amazefitit's cheapest device, but it might be one of the best. Today, we'll use a bunch of data to analyze the performance of the Amazefit 2 Pro as a running watch to help you decide if this [00:19] should be your next running device or if maybe you should go for a more established brand like Garmin, for instance. To summarize, I'm actually quite happy with this device and especially the GPS tracking was amazing. [00:32] Though I had some weird running results as well as I'll show you in a second. Now, for those of you who don't know me, my name is Rob and I'm a post-doal scientist specializing in biological data analysis. And as always, that will [00:44] be the focus of today, data analysis. One thing I want to note though is that this Cheetah 2 Pro does have a lot of functionalities that you would normally only get at higher price points for other brands. Like for instance, the [00:56] mapping functionalities of the Cheetah 2 Pro. To get similar functionalities on a Garmin device, you'd likely pay a few hundred more. But let's actually get to the testing results. And as always, let's start with the heart rate tracking [01:09] performance, which we test against an ECG reference. So, ECG actually measures the electrical signals of your heart and is the most reliable way of measuring heart rate. And let's see how the Mazefit Cheetah 2 Pro compares to that. [01:22] So, along the horizontal axis right here, we have the heart rate as measured by the ECG chest strap. And along the vertical axis, we have the heart rate as measured by the Amaze Vegeta 2 Pro. And we want those points to be as close to [01:35] the blue line as possible for good performance. And luckily, they are. And specifically this exercise is spinning. So cycling indoors. And this just looks really good. I'm really happy with this. The correlation is 0.98 which is really [01:51] high since the correlation cannot be higher than one. So 0.98 is a really good performance for the Amaze Vegeta 2 Pro. We do have a few points below the blue line indicating that at least in some moments this watch detected a [02:06] slightly too low heart rate. However, overall this looks really good. Of course, this is the easiest exercise for a device to track. So, I'll slowly make it more difficult, but I wanted to start with spinning because that's generally [02:18] individual sessions, we do see some minor issues. So, we have the reference minor issues. So, we have the reference in blue green and the Amaz Pro in red. At several intervals, but as you can see, for the first interval, it [02:31] heart rates. That's likely where these points came from. This second session already looks a lot better. Some minor struggles, but this is close to perfect. And also, this session is mostly good with some minor dropout moments. So, [02:45] overall over these three spinning sessions, I'm really happy with that performance. And this correlation of 0.98 isn't perfect. So, there are better devices out there as you can see in this overview. So, again, we're using that [02:57] correlation here along the horizontal axis. And on the vertical axis, I ordered the watches from worst to best. So the further to the top right the performance. And these are all devices I tested from 2025 onwards. Now this here [03:12] zoom in a bit to just the better performing devices. And that's what we see right here. So these are just the devices with a correlation of 0.95 or higher. And as we saw, the Cheetah 2 Pro had a correlation around 0.98. [03:27] And we have it right here. So, it's not amongst the absolute top performers, but I would say it's good enough. It's actually quite close to, for instance, the Amazefit T-Rex Pro, the Amaze Active 3 Premium, the Amaze Active Max. All of [03:43] these have the same sensor. So, also similar performance, which makes sense. Now, if you want the absolute best performance, then I would recommend either an Apple Watch, basically any model will do, or a Pixel Watch, which [03:56] also has really good performance. So, it really depends on what you're looking for. The Pixel watches right here, for instance, and also some Huawei devices like the Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro are doing a really good job. Interestingly, [04:09] the Amazefitit Helio Strap when worn on the biceps is also a bit better. So, the Amazefit Helio Strap is the non-screen wearable of Amazefitit. It's quite cheap at around $100. And you can actually wear it on your biceps, similar to where [04:22] I wear my Whoop Strap right here. And probably the positioning on the biceps makes it easier for it to measure reliable heart rate. So you get better that the Cheetah 2 Pro is doing a good enough job for cycling indoors. It's [04:36] pretty decent. It's not perfect, but in that category of definitely good enough. Next, I want to take a look at the results for running. This is the thing you probably care about most. And here I got some weird results. Now, I did two [04:50] runs with the Amaze Vegeta 2 Pro, so a limited test. and one of them was really on, but you can see this big cloud of points here above the blue line indicating that sometimes the Amaze Fit Cheetah 2 Pro detected a too high heart [05:05] rate. This means that the correlation also isn't that high at 0.74. I'm not sure whether or not this is a fluke or not. I am not able to do more extensive testing, so more runs at this time because I have a small injury. So, [05:19] I can only do a limited amount of runs per week. probably next week or the week after I have more ability to test again. But there's also new watches coming. But I actually want to show you what's going on. So this was the first run that I did [05:31] with the Amaze Vegeta 2 Pro where it really struggled except for near the end. So again, the Amaz Pro is in red and my reference heart rate is in blue green and I did quite a stable run. So most of the time my heart rate was say [05:45] most of the time my heart rate was say around 140 to 150 BPM. But I think the Amaze Feta 2 Pro started detecting my cadence. So the frequency at which I was running instead of my heart rate. So it detected a way too high heart rate. So [05:59] I'm not sure what's going on here. The other run though looks really good. So here we have almost perfect performance. I had a similar heart rate and here there was almost perfect agreement. So, I'm not sure yet if this was a fluke, if [06:14] wrist, and that's why it really is something I'll be experiencing occasionally if I were to use this for running. Like I said, I cannot do a lot of testing at the moment. But this does [06:28] make me wonder about the stability of the Amaze Cheetah 2 Pro. Though, of course, we can take a look at how some of the other Amaze devices with the same give us an impression of the [06:40] of how different watches performed for running. And the Amaze Vegeta 2 Pro is all the way down here. Now this is so low that I think it might be a bit of a fluke because even much heavier watches with the same sensor like the Amazefit [06:55] with the same sensor like the Amazefit T-Rex 3 Pro, the Amazefit T-Rex Ultra 2, both did better in this case than the Amaze Vegeta 2 Pro in my testing. And if we look at other Amaze devices which I suspect should perform similarly like [07:09] for instance the Amaze Balance 2 right here the Amaze Active Max and Activity Premium all of these three are doing much better than the Amaze Cheetah 2 Pro which is why my suspicion is that if I were to do more runs this one outlying [07:24] one right here would turn out to be a fluke. Though I cannot confirm that. This is just the data that I have and I'm presenting it to you directly. I'm that's good to do as a reviewer. You should just show the data as you have it [07:37] and you can make your own decision. But my suspicion is that with long-term testing, it would end up somewhere around here. So a correlation of 0.95. this case with the limited amount of data that I have. And again, some of the [07:51] best performers out there are in this case Apple watches, but also Pixel case Apple watches, but also Pixel watches, but also the Amazed Helio strap when worn on the biceps. That's just doing a lot better job. Also, the polar [08:03] loop on the biceps is doing a good job. So, wearing devices on your biceps just seems to improve their performance. Overall, this has me a bit confused, but I'm just showing you the data as is. Though, as I said, some other Amazefit [08:15] performing devices, even on the wrist are doing a lot better, like the Amaze Helio strap one on the wrist, the lighter Amaze T-Rex 3 Pro on the wrist, Balance 2, which is why I really have the suspicion that it might end up in [08:31] this area right here if we do long-term testing. But these are the data, and it's up to you to decide what to do with it. Next, let's take a look at a much harder exercise for devices to track, which is biking outside. Now, this is [08:43] much harder because there's much more bumpiness and also much more tension on my wrist. And this is looking quite okay, though not great at a correlation of 0.84. Many points are close to the blue line, [08:56] So, here it's really important to take a look at the individual sessions to see how bad this actually is. Maybe it isn't that bad at all. But before doing that, because running this channel next to my full-time job as a scientist is neither [09:11] easy or cheap. I buy many of these devices myself. So, in this case, device, though they have no influence on the review. I also have to buy a lot of camera gear, lights, I even have an overhead camera right here. And of [09:25] edited this video. But back to the video and let's take a look at those bike rides I did with the Amaze Vita 2 Pro. Here we have the first bike ride, which looks quite decent, though sometimes it [10:17] rate. This bike ride looks almost perfect, so I'm really happy with those results. Again, this one isn't that great. This one is a bit better, though. Not all the peaks were detected. This one is almost perfect. So, I'm really [10:31] happy with that. This one shows a bit more deviation, though it's kind of okay. And this one is also somewhere in between. So, I'm not that happy, but also not that disappointed. It's might just be good enough for some of you [10:44] because watches tend to struggle more on me, but it's definitely not good or great. But let's again compare this performance to the competition. Now it is a bit hard to read. What we saw before that correlation was around 0.85 [10:59] and indeed the Amaze Feta 2 Pros right here. And it's not that far away from some other amazement devices with the same sensor again like the smaller T-Rex same sensor again like the smaller T-Rex 3 Pro, the larger T-Rex 3 Pro, but we [11:13] also have the Active 3 Premium right here, the T-Rex Ultra 2, the Active 2, the Active Max. All of them fall sort of in this area right here between let's in this area right here between let's say 0.7 and 0.9. Now, this is also just [11:28] normal testing variation depending on the temperature outside, how vigorously I did the exercises, but they're all somewhere in the middle of all devices. Amazefitit, you're really going to have to wear it probably on your biceps. At [11:43] least that's what it shows for me. If you wear it on your biceps, especially better performance. Again, for those of you who are interested, some of the best performers in this case are again Apple watches, Pixel watches, some Huawei [11:56] devices, and the Amaze with Helio Strap. Okay, so that was a lot of data. I just hardest exercise out there, which is weightlifting or gym sessions. And here we actually get quite a good correlation [12:10] we actually get quite a good correlation at 0.95. This really makes me happy. A at 0.95. This really makes me happy. A correlation of 0.95 is quite good. And we do see that most points are now on or close to blue line. And even in the [12:22] higher heart rate range when I'm actually doing a set of exercises, the points are actually quite close to the blue line. That's also what we see if we take a look at the individual sessions. Most of the peaks were at least [12:34] partially detected, which is better than many devices out there, though they were not fully detected for this session. Here it looks a bit better. There's some deviation, but overall quite good. So for weightlifting, a mazefitit appears [12:47] to be a bit more solid than some other devices out there. And we actually see that in the general overview as well. So if we take a look at where it's located, it's all the way up here quite close to the Helios strap and also the Amazefitit [13:01] performance. The Balance 2 was quite close and also these other Amaze devices Amazefitit actually appears to be performing quite well, a bit better than actually have a zoomed in view where you can see it a bit better and we indeed [13:17] see amongst the top performance we have many amazefit devices and that includes the Cheetah 2 Pro right here. So actually not that bad. But what is my tracking performance of the Cheetah 2 Pro? Well, as regular viewers will know, [13:33] I just introduced a new scoring system. And in that new scoring system, the Amaze Vegeta 2 Pro scored 85 out of 100 points for heart rate tracking during exercise. And specifically here, I'm [13:46] focusing on the cardio exercises where I take the average correlation over indoor cycling, outdoor cycling, and running. And that gives it a score of 85. And that score of 85 means it falls into the category of okay heart rate tracking. [14:01] And we're going to do a similar scoring system for sleep stage tracking and GPS tracking. If we go back to the specifics of how it performed, I would say it's cycling. I expect it will be good enough [14:14] during running. If that one weird run was a fluke. And then finally for biking outside, it's okay. But there it showed the most issues in my opinion. But let's now move on to sleep stage tracking. And sleep stage tracking is particularly [14:27] interesting for the Cheetah 2 Pro because Amazefitit introduced a new sleep stage tracking algorithm recently. So, we're going to see how that did. tracking performance is by comparing against the Zmax EG headband, which is a [14:41] measure my brain waves. It was specifically designed for sleep studies. It's not perfect. It's not the absolute gold standard. It's sort of a silver standard, but good enough for our purposes to see how well these devices [14:54] perform compared to the competition and how good the sleep stage tracking right here is of the Cheetah 2 Pro. So, for instance, tonight on me, it detected that I had 7 hours and 11 minutes of sleep. But I want to know are those [15:08] sleep stages reliable? So, can it detect how much RAM sleep I had, how much deep sleep I had, and how much light sleep I had. So, let's take a look. Now, as I said, the Zmax EG headband is sort of a silver standard which is on top right [15:21] here. So, these are the sleep stages as detected by the Zmax and on the left are the sleep stages as detected by the Cheetah 2 Pro. And if they would perfectly agree, all values on the diagonal right here in yellow should be [15:36] 100%. Now, we're not going to focus on awake time because the Zmax detects a lot of short arousals that aren't really awake moments. So, that would give you a want to actually focus on those sleep stages. Now, first of all, we see that [15:49] about 74% of what was deep sleep according to the reference device was also deep sleep according to the G2 Pro. So, it's pretty good though not amazing. I would say that's about as good as it gets for many devices out there. There [16:03] are definitely better performers as you'll see in a second. Light sleep agreement was okay at about 61% agreement and RAM sleep agreement is about the same at about a 60% agreement. All of this is definitely not bad. A lot [16:18] of devices do worse, but this is also not great. And that's actually what you can see in this overview right here. So, we have the average sensitivity over those three sleep stages along the horizontal axis right here. And the [16:31] the vertical axis because I also want the device to be good at all sleep stages. So, if there are 100% at two but 0% at another, I want it to be low along that vertical axis. And we have the Amazefit Cheetah 2 Pro right here. And [16:45] it did a pretty good job. It's actually really close to my previous testing of the Amazefitit Active 3 Premium, which also had that updated sleep stage tracking algorithm already. And we have the older devices of Amazefitit down [16:58] here, which actually shows you that the RAM sleep tracking improved, which is why it's now higher along the vertical axis, but on average, the performance is still roughly the same. So Amazefitit is improving things. So they're not as bad [17:14] anymore at RAM sleep tracking, but the overall performance, at least on me, isn't quite there yet. I would say it's now amongst the second to third tier of devices. So the worst devices are all the way down here. And the best devices [17:28] are all the way up here. And I would say here we have the second tier, which mostly just includes Galaxy watches. And amazing really close to that. I would say they're slightly better in this case than for instance Garmin devices or [17:43] Polar devices, but not quite to the performance of Galaxy watches yet and really not quite at the performance of the best performing devices. Now, there are five brands that are outperforming all the others. Those are [17:58] Google with their Pixel watches and Fibbit devices, Apple watches, there's also the Aura Ring, which is a really good performer, the Whoop strap, and finally, we have the eight sleep pod. Now, if you're on Android, Pixel Watch [18:11] is actually a really good choice. On iOS, I really like the Apple Watch, might want to get a third party app in that case. The Whoop Strap and the Aura Ring work on both systems. However, they do require a subscription, so a monthly [18:25] payment. And the same goes for the HL pot, which is the most expensive device in this list. It's also my favorite device out of all of these, but you do need to pay a monthly membership, plus a big upfront investment. It's actually [18:38] not a wearable. It's a thing that goes around your mattress that can cool and heat each side of the bed independently, which is why I call it a sleep improvement device. Because for me, it's made a major impact on my sleep quality, [18:51] trouble cooling down and because my partners usually want to sleep warmer battle going on. But getting back to the performance of Amazefitit, I do think their new algorithm does seem to be better than [19:29] their old algorithm, especially if you're interested in RAM sleep. However, it still has a ways to go to get to the best performing devices. But I'm happy brands are working on this. Huawei recently released a slightly better [19:41] has updated their sleep stage tracking algorithm. Now it's time for other brands like for instance Garmin to follow suit. I'm really interested to see when they release their screen is wearable if it will go combined with [19:54] I won't get early access to that device because Garmin just decides to work with a few reviewers and they think my type of testing doesn't suit their brand that well. Hopefully that will change in the future. Honestly, I don't think it will. [20:07] reviews, but I still hope they're worth it for you. Now, to close off the sleep stage tracking of the Cheetah 2 Pro, it gets a score of 65 in my new scoring sensitivity, which falls into the [20:22] category of okay sleep stage tracking. Not good, not great, but pretty okay and a lot better than what most devices did a year or two ago. So, I'm really happy all these devices are improving over time. Now to close off, let's take a [20:36] look at the GPS tracking performance of the Cheetah 2 Pro, which is where in my shines. I'm really happy it did that well. So, let's take a look at those the way I test GPS tracking performance is by cycling the same route multiple [20:50] times. And if the signals overlap, that's a sign that it probably has good GPS tracking performance. And if they don't overlap, that means it's likely I do the same for running. are around the same circle many times and we want [21:04] those signals to then nicely overlap. So let's take a look at that and let's start by taking a look at the results for cycling outside and those are right here. Now the signal was acquired really fast cuz I have two working locations, [21:16] one right here and one right here. And in both cases the signal was acquired almost instantly. And then if we look at the consistency between the signals is just really good. These are six signals right here and they're just overlapping [21:29] good. A little bit of deviation right here, but many devices struggle right here. Then let's take a look at the roundabout. This also looks pretty good. Pretty consistent right here. Just overall looking really solid. Even here [21:44] near the radio tower where many devices struggle, it keeps doing really well. These are the results for four times I cycle to work. Again, quite good consistency right here. A little bit of deviation here, but not as bad as many [21:58] other devices. And here it looks really solid. Look at how close those signals are. You can almost not tell them apart. Also around the corner right here, really good performance. I'm just really happy with this. So for cycling already, [22:12] really good performance. But let's now take a look at the results for running outside. Now here we have one run. So I always run in this circle right here where on the right side we have a big wall that tends to interfere with the [22:24] signal where on the left side there is no interference. So there should be an easier job. And the signals nicely come together. No big complaints here. We see end of the wall. So this is where most devices struggle, but the Cheetah 2 Pro [22:38] did an admirable job. Let's actually take a look at another run as well. So here we have a second run and it looks more or less identical. Just very solid tracking. Signals on this side are even close together and especially on the [22:51] left side, just super close together. So, in terms of GPS tracking, I'm really happy with the G2 Pro. And that's arguably one of the main use cases of this device, especially if you then connect an external chest strap to this [23:04] device. You get great heart rate tracking, plus great GPS tracking and price, it's actually quite good because for Garmin, for instance, you would have to pay quite a bit more money. Now, getting back to the scoring system, what [23:17] does this mean in terms of scoring for the Amaze FA 2 Pro? Well, specifically for the GPS tracking, I would give it a score of 90, which puts it in the category of great. So, GPS tracking really appears to be the standout [23:30] feature for me for the Cheetah 2 Pro. Of course, this testing is limited to me, to my experience, but I do think it is valuable data. So, what is my overall conclusion on the Cheetah 2 Pro? Well, GPS tracking is really the best thing [23:44] about this device, at least in my testing, at a score of 90. That falls into the category of great. The heart rate tracking at a score of 85 was okay and the sleep score at a score of 65 was also just okay. Now again the heart rate [24:00] tracking might have had that fluke run in there which decreased the overall a fluke then the heart rate tracking might even move up to great though we also saw it struggled a little bit for [24:12] most accurate heart rate tracking for this device, I would recommend connecting an external chest strap. Or you could even combine it with the Amaze Helio strap when worn on the biceps. Still though, if you're somebody who [24:25] likes to run a lot and also trail run, this is really a recommended device because of the GPS tracking performance. In the end, I just show you the data and you decide whether or not this kind of performance is good enough for me. And [24:37] always also check out some other reviewers.
