[00:00] Hey everybody, my name is Ryan. I am the line producer for Rocket Jump the show, and today we're going to be talking about your production kit. So here is the kit.
[00:12] The production kit is basically everything that you would need on location or in the office to make the job happen. Just every set of office supplies that you could think you need.
[00:24] Surge protectors with long cables. Power cords are always hard to find. and you need lots and lots of outlets. Generators aren't always reliable and you don't want your computer hooked up to that. I have extra sets of safety glasses.
[00:38] That just comes up. Label maker. We have extra of everything. So we have the label maker. You have your tape. There's two extra packs in here. Out in the middle of nowhere.
[00:50] It can be hours before something can get turned around. So you want to make sure that you have everything that you need for that day in order to get the job done. Hole punch. both a three-hole punch for regular binders and a two-hole punch.
[01:04] Typically, we do PRs at the end of every week. You hit the top, put that up, and then the crew can come up and check that as they fill out their time cards. Down here, we have all of the different fasteners you could possibly need,
[01:16] different brackets, paper clips. Always use paper clips because you have to make copies of everything, so if you staple it, you have to rip it apart. So until it is the last time that you're going to use it, make sure you use paper clips, otherwise you're going to hate your life. The number one thing
[01:31] that's going to disappear are pens. Always, always pens. No one ever has pens, and they're liars for saying they're going to bring them back. So have tons and tons of cheap, cheap pens that are just going to disappear. Post-it notes. I'm a big fan of post-it notes. Down below, notes. You're going
[01:48] to be constantly just taking notes writing everything down You going to burn through these like crazy These are great to have on hand for production meetings Nobody else is going to have anything so you need to have the stuff in order to make the show work Petty cash So you going to be handing out tons and tons
[02:04] of cash to random people. So just having a quick carbon copy log, you write down who it is, what's it for, and what the amount is. And from there, you have it all tracked. One of the big tools
[02:18] on sets are the footballs. This is how things get communicated from set back to the office. We have one that's always in the office and we have one that's always on set. So the one on set is getting loaded up with that day's paperwork. The one in the office is getting unloaded with
[02:33] everything from the day before and you just keep trading and that's how we keep communicating, keep everybody's stuff straight. My favorite box is just one that gets passed around and
[02:45] we just have a collection of lizards, mice, snakes, spiders, grasshoppers,
[02:58] just anything that you can shove into a corner somewhere and just scare the hell out of anybody is really a lot of fun. Other than that, the kit is just the stuff that you think that you need in order to do your job to the best of your ability.
[03:12] If you think you need it, put it in there, carry it around. And it's really simple for it to travel, everything just lays down. I've assembled this over the course of close to 10 years. I would recommend starting much smaller.
