As a civil war between the blacks and
the greens becomes more and more bloody,
inevitably, their pet weapons of mass
destruction have become an increasingly
vital tool for achieving victory.
Several dragons have already been wiped
off the playing field, but with a new
crop of riders mantling the unclaimed
beasts and ready to step to Vega, it's
anyone's game to lose. Vermithor and
Silverwing.
>> And they sleep just beneath our feet.
>> Yes, and if only they had riders, none
could stand against me.
>> Let's take a look at every dragon that's
appeared so far during House of the
Dragon, refreshing our brains of all the
pieces on the board before we dive into
the latest season. And don't worry,
there'll be no spoilers from the books.
We have to start with the biggest and
baddest. The second largest dragon from
the Targaryen conquest, Vega is an
ancient female dragon and the last
living creature to have seen Aegon's
conquest. During House of the Dragon,
Vega was ridden by Laenor Velaryon and
then immediately mounted by young Aemond
Targaryen upon Laena's death.
>> Vega is my mother's dragon.
>> Your mother's dead.
Vega has a new rider now.
>> Since then, Vega and her rider Aemond
have become the deadliest weapon in all
of Westeros. With the giant beast and
fiercest warrior pairing becoming the
biggest threat to the blacks and
Rhaenyra's claim. Aemond and Vega were
responsible for the death of Prince
Lucerys Velaryon and his dragon Arrax at
the end of season one. They continued
their bloody path in season two by
defeating Princess Rhaenys and her
dragon Meleys at the Battle of Rook's
Rest. Vega was last seen at Sharp Point
observing the bloody aftermath of
Aemond's rage. The yellowish Syrax is
the huge, formidable female steed of
Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and has been
seen regularly throughout the first and
second season of House of the Dragon. We
were first introduced to Syrax in the
very first episode as Rhaenyra took a
flight around the skies of King's
Landing.
>> Syrax is growing quickly. She'll will be
as large as Caraxes.
That's almost large enough to saddle,
too.
>> Caraxes was most recently seen riding
Rhaenyra to Harrenhal to confront Daemon
just before he, once again, pledged his
fealty to Rhaenyra. Dubbed the Blood
Worm, this huge red horned beast is the
steed of Prince Daemon Targaryen and is
as fearsome and vicious as his rider.
House of the Dragon first introduced us
to the power of Caraxes during Daemon's
war against the Crab Feeder in the
Stepstones. Originally the steed of
Aemon Targaryen, the late son of King
Jaehaerys, Daemon is only person to tame
Caraxes. By mid-season 2, they had taken
flight from Dragonstone to Harrenhal
where Caraxes was most notably seen
wielded as a threat to the Blackwoods in
the Riverlands.
With his golden scales and flames, it's
no wonder this huge and formidable male
dragon is dubbed Sunfyre the Golden. He
is the steed of King Aegon II,
who is the first dragon rider to tame
this relatively young beast. Sunfyre is
often referred to as the most beautiful
of dragons and its golden look was the
inspiration for Aegon's golden sigil.
Episode 4 of House of the Dragon season
2 shows us Sunfyre in combat for the
first time, tangling with Meleys and
getting caught in the crossfire {slash}
deliberately attacked by Aemon's Vhagar.
Resulting in a severely wounded but
barely still alive Sunfyre dropping from
the sky. As far as we know, Sunfyre is
still alive but not operational.
The Bronze Fury is the third largest
dragon and is described in The World of
Ice and Fire as old and hoary. This male
dragon was once the steed of Jaehaerys I
Targaryen, aka the Old King, and
maintained that bond with Jaehaerys
during a 55-year reign. Daemon Targaryen
is seen visiting Vermithor during the
season 1 finale of House of the Dragon.
At this point, Vermithor remained
riderless, waiting for someone bold
enough to claim it.
That bold man stepped forward in the
shape of Hugh, a Targaryen bastard from
the slums of King's Landing, who
attended Rhaenyra's Red Sowing, a
gathering of illegitimate Targaryen
children looking to claim a dragon. Hugh
bravely stepped forward to protect a
woman in danger and thus presented
himself to Vermithor and created a bond
in the process. Vermithor was last seen
behind Rhaenyra guarding Dragonstone in
episode 7 of season 2.
Once ridden by Queen Alyssa Targaryen,
the lifelong wife/sister of King
Jaehaerys, this she-dragon, like
Vermithor, was also ready to be claimed
in the Red Sowing, settling with a rider
called Ulf, a man certainly less
honorable than Hugh, but apparently with
a similar lineage due to the dragon's
acceptance. Ulf claims to be the son of
Viserys and Damon's father, Baelon. And
we last saw Silverwing being ridden
around the skies of King's Landing on
Ulf's maiden voyage.
The Red Queen is the steed of the queen
who never was, Princess Rhaenys
Targaryen. Meleys is described in The
World of Ice and Fire as old and
cunning, lazy but fearsome when roused.
Rhaenys and Meleys made quite the splash
in the penultimate episode of House of
the Dragon's first season when they
burst through the Dragon Pit during the
coronation of KING AEGON II.
>> [screaming]
>> IN EPISODE 4 OF SEASON 2, Meleys took on
Vhagar and Sunfyre in the Battle of
Rook's Rest. Meleys and her rider were
eventually defeated by Vhagar, falling
to their death after sustaining
significant wounds. And in episode 5 of
season 2, we see the decapitated head of
Meleys paraded around King's Landing and
referred to as a traitor dragon.
>> THE TRAITOR DRAGON, MELEYS.
>> Dubbed by the world of Ice and Fire as a
slender and beautiful female dragon,
Moondancer is the small but swift steed
of Lady Baela Targaryen, the daughter of
Daemon Targaryen and Laena Velaryon.
Moondancer is significantly smaller than
some of the other dragons, making her
fast and nimble. We have recently seen
Baela riding Moondancer in episode 3 of
season 2, chasing Criston Cole and his
men into the trees after patrolling the
area.
>> [screaming]
[groaning and screaming]
>> This gray and white dragon is still
relatively young in the era of House of
the Dragon, during which it bonds with
Seasmoke Velaryon. And Seasmoke appears
during the climactic battle against the
Crabfeeder in season 1 episode 3. Since
the apparent death of Laenor, Seasmoke's
remained riderless. Though in House of
the Dragon, it's clear that Laenor's
death was faked and he's apparently
still alive somewhere in Essos. It's yet
to be determined whether Seasmoke will
still maintain this bond with his
original owner, although he has since
moved on to another.
>> Are they always like this?
Seasmoke, my little husband's dragon,
is growing restless of late.
We cannot know why.
Maybe he's lonely.
>> Unlike most dragons in the universe,
Seasmoke actually sought out its new
rider, Addam of Hull, cornering the
bastard son of Corlys Velaryon and
forcing their bond. Addam and his
brother Alyn, because of their bastard
heritage, are actually brothers of the
Seasmoke's original rider, Laenor.
Seasmoke and Addam were last seen
accompanying Rhaenyra and Syrax to
Harrenhal to confront Daemon.
The silver and blue she-dragon has been
the steed of both Princess Rhaena
Targaryen, daughter of Aenys I,
and Queen Helaena Targaryen. Dreamfyre
is rarely ridden by Helaena, who prefers
to spend her time being a mother to her
children. The dragon was briefly seen in
House of the Dragon season 1 taking care
of her own offspring, guarding the
dragon eggs when young Aemond attempted
to claim one. In season 2, Aemond did
request Helaena to fly the dragon again,
but Helaena refused stating,
>> I won't burn anyone.
>> The Blue Queen is the steed of Prince
Daeron Targaryen, a character we've yet
to meet, but who was briefly mentioned
in season 2 of House of the Dragon.
>> The Hightowers still have strength and
you
have a son there who'll take more kindly
to instruction. Daeron may yet help us
in weeks to come.
>> The younger brother of King Aegon,
Daeron who lives in Oldtown with his
extended family on his mother's side.
His mother being Alicent Hightower. This
she-dragon who breathes blue flame is
said to be younger than Dreamfyre,
Sunfyre, and Vermax. We got our first
glimpse of Tyraxes and Daeron in the
finale of season 2, flying high over the
Hightower army and apparently ready for
action.
The young male dragon Vermax is the
steed of Prince Jacaerys Velaryon. Like
his brothers Lucerys and Joffrey,
Jacaerys is the disputed son of Rhaenyra
Targaryen and Laenor Velaryon. The green
dragon briefly appears during season 1
flying Jacaerys to both the Eyrie and
Winterfell to earn the support of the
houses for Queen Rhaenyra's cause and
was most recently seen at the Twins
after being ridden there by Jacaerys so
he could negotiate with the Freys for
his mother Rhaenyra.
>> Our fear lies in Vhagar.
>> You fear a dragon
leagues away when Meleys sits outside
your walls.
>> This male dragon is too young to factor
into House of the Dragon until later in
the series, during which time he'll be
the steed of Aegon the Younger, the
toddler son of Rhaenyra and Daemon
Targaryen. As it stands though,
Stormcloud is with Rhaena and Rhaenyra's
protected children in the Eyrie and
paired with Tyraxes is part of the
promise to Lady Jeyne Arryn to send
dragons to protect the Vale.
>> She sent two.
>> We did briefly catch a glimpse of a very
young dragon in episode 6 of season 2,
spending time bonding with the young
Targaryen children. Another dragon to
recently fall to the might of Vega is
Arrax. Said to be five times smaller
than Vega, this young male dragon is the
steed of Prince Lucerys Velaryon, the
son of Rhaenyra Targaryen and Laenor
Velaryon. Although it's clear that he's
actually the bastard child of Harwin
Strong. Arrax and Lucerys play a pivotal
role in the season 1 finale of House of
the Dragon as Luke clashes with his
uncle and childhood rival Aemond
Targaryen. Vhagar kills not only Arrax,
but also Lucerys.
>> Vhagar!
>> No!

>> The steed of Prince Joffrey Velaryon,
the third child by Rhaenyra and Laenor,
again disputed, is Tyraxes. In House of
the Dragon season 2, Tyraxes is used as
a bargaining tool for earning the
allegiance of House Arryn, who requested
a dragon to protect the Eyrie.
>> I cannot spare a fighting dragon, but I
shall send what I can.
Stormcloud and Tyraxes are small, but
they will grow.
It is for you to remind Lady Jeyne of
her pledge and
persuade her of the urgency of our need.
>> In Fire and Blood, Moondancer is bound
to Prince Jaehaera Targaryen, the
daughter of King Aegon II
and survivor of the Blood and Cheese
incident. Due to Jaehaera's age in the
show though, it's implied that
Moondancer is yet to be born and
currently rests in the eggs underneath
Jaehaera's bed.
Like Moondancer, Shrykos is also yet to
hatch. This dragon would have belonged
to Jaehaera's twin brother, Jaehaerys.
However, the Blood and Cheese incident
left the boy without a head, so it's
unlikely that we'll ever see Shrykos in
the show.
The she-dragon Morning, the offspring of
Syrax, is hatched later in Fire and
Blood. Morning has pink scales and black
horns and in the book is the steed of
Lady Rhaena Targaryen. Although in the
show, it seems like the pairing has been
abandoned and Rhaena has sights on a
different dragon. More on that later.
Moondancer is suspected to be one of the
four eggs that Rhaena and the Targaryen
children took to the veil for
protection.
>> Tyraxes and Stormcloud are young and
vulnerable.
These eggs are even more fragile.
But should all come to ruin here,
you will bear our hope for the future.
>> In the final episode of season 2, we
were introduced to Sheepstealer, an old,
wilder dragon that appears to be claimed
by dragonless Rhaena. And as the name
implies, is regularly seen happily
feasting on woolly creatures in the
pastures. Now, this part is a minor book
spoiler, but we're also sharing it
because we truly believe that it won't
happen in the show. In Fire & Blood,
Sheepstealer is a wild dragon that is
eventually tamed by, as the World of Ice
and Fire describes her, a plain,
baseborn, and disreputable girl called
Nettles, who feeds the dragon mutton to
win it over. Nettles has yet to be
introduced in House of the Dragon. So,
it appears that her dragon-taming story
has been merged with Rhaena's.
The Cannibal is a flying beast that's
yet to be introduced in House of the
Dragon. This wild dragon is known for
never having been ridden, let alone
tamed, and for eating other dragons,
hence the name. And legend has it that
it's lurked on Dragonstone since before
the arrival of the Targaryens.
Like the Cannibal, the Grey Ghost is
another wild dragon who was never tamed
or ridden and is yet to appear on House
of the Dragon. Although it's said to
have feasted on fish rather than people.
And that's every dragon that exists so
far in House of the Dragon. Yes, I
purposely omitted Balerion the Black
Dread, because although we see his
skull, he's long dead at the start of
