[0:00] not everybody has an amazing house some [0:02] of us live in a very modest house that's [0:06] relatively boring it doesn't have a lot [0:08] of architectural elements that make it [0:10] jump off the page so how do you take a [0:12] house that is is pretty bland and make [0:15] it amazing how you do it is with [0:17] landscaping curb appeal i'm going to [0:19] show you exactly how we're going to take [0:21] something super boring and make it [0:23] awesome [0:25] [Music] [0:28] if you're new to the channel my name is [0:30] bobby cam professional landscape [0:31] designer install and i love to help [0:33] people usually very busy people [0:36] with their landscaping they don't they [0:37] don't quite know what a space can look [0:39] like or how to update something or make [0:41] it look cool [0:42] we're going to jump right into this [0:43] we're going to go into the design we'll [0:44] have a little time lapse going on i'm [0:46] going to fire off a bunch of tips that [0:48] break down the design and help you and [0:50] give you out some cost effective things [0:52] that you can do when it comes to your [0:54] landscaping and by the end of the video [0:55] i'm going to tell you how much it costs [0:57] if you were to pay someone or if you [1:00] were to do it yourself which i think a [1:02] lot of us are diy-ers nowadays and [1:05] that's pretty important to know what am [1:06] i going to be paying if i want to have [1:08] this look let's go [1:10] so the first thing when you got a house [1:12] that's pretty bland pretty flat there's [1:13] not much going on is have fun with the [1:16] beds bring those beds out away from the [1:18] house create some depth in the design [1:20] one thing that i think is super cool [1:22] that i haven't done on a lot of [1:23] designing is i really had fun with [1:25] curves going on here where i brought it [1:28] away from the house a good probably 12 [1:30] feet off that corner brought it around [1:33] and then connected it and hooked it all [1:35] the way down to the mailbox and so it [1:37] gave this really cool shape not only to [1:40] the beds but to the lawn so play with [1:43] curves have fun with them and bring [1:44] those beds off the house and create [1:46] depth [1:47] the second thing to create even a little [1:49] bit more depth and interest is with [1:52] these trees we got these two cherry [1:53] trees so instead of everything being [1:55] bushes and flat and down to the ground [1:58] we created some height by putting a tree [2:00] over in the corner and a tree over by [2:03] the walkway that we've got going on so [2:05] it's almost like as you pull up you kind [2:07] of go around that first tree opens up to [2:09] the house it creates a little bit more [2:11] interest versus everything just being up [2:13] against the house and flat so have fun [2:15] with heights have fun with textures have [2:17] fun [2:18] with funds fun you know just have fun [2:21] with different kinds of plans and [2:23] different kinds of colors and textures [2:25] and heights and that is going to create [2:27] interest with something like this the [2:29] third thing that i really like is we [2:31] busted out the old concrete walkway that [2:34] was just your typical kind of came out [2:36] hooked over [2:38] end of the day and we created a paver [2:40] walkway which ups the value it's a [2:42] cooler material [2:44] a little bit of money is going to go [2:46] into that but it's only about 25 feet [2:48] total by three feet wide so it's not a [2:51] ton of square footage and you take that [2:53] walkway you bring it out you bring it [2:55] out and away from the house and kind of [2:56] go along with the curve of the bed it [2:59] just really flows really neat [3:02] the last thing that i think is the x [3:04] factor and something so small in this [3:07] design is the mailbox a lot of people [3:10] don't ever even look at a mailbox or [3:12] when they do a mailbox it might be brick [3:14] and mortar or a veneer stone but in this [3:17] way we did some wood and we would stain [3:20] it and that gives it this modern [3:22] contemporary vibe so we just took this [3:24] like old nasty sorry it's not old and [3:26] nasty it just hadn't been touched since [3:28] like 1950 [3:29] house [3:31] and we gave it a modern vibe by upping [3:33] the landscaping working with curves [3:35] putting some different colors and [3:36] textures in updating the walkway [3:39] updating that mailbox and man this thing [3:41] is a cherry i think it looks awesome [3:44] night and day better and then the final [3:46] thing you do is you light it all up you [3:48] put some lighting in there you light up [3:50] the mailbox you light up the trees you [3:52] put some intimate path lights along that [3:54] walkway and this thing [3:56] screams curb appeal absolutely screams [3:59] it so how much does this all cost [4:01] if you were to do this yourself all the [4:04] plants the wood the trees couple [4:06] boulders the lighting i think you're [4:08] going to be in for about 3 500 [4:12] that's what you're going to spend you [4:13] might have a little bit of turf repair [4:15] you can either do seed and straw on the [4:17] outskirts or you can do sod [4:19] if you're going to pay a company like [4:21] mine to install this [4:23] you're going to be closer to [4:25] the 8 to 10 grand range depending on the [4:28] quality of the lights how many lights [4:30] you put in just a couple of different [4:32] factors so there is a savings obviously [4:35] with paying a company or doing it [4:37] yourself versus paying a company but [4:39] here's what i want you to think about [4:41] are you better off [4:43] paying a company and doing what you do [4:46] or going out and thinking you're saving [4:48] three to four grand but putting in a ton [4:51] of sweat equity going out and getting [4:53] the plants and just really using your [4:57] time there versus using your time doing [4:59] what you do and making money it's [5:01] definitely something to think about if [5:03] this is something that you want to take [5:04] some pride in you want to say i did the [5:06] front landscape i'm all for it i get it [5:08] when you get out there and you start [5:09] digging and you mess with that shovel [5:11] and it's 100 degrees you might think [5:13] otherwise and you might want to hire a [5:14] company [5:15] so [5:16] if you like this kind of video go watch [5:19] this video i got some other really cool [5:21] little gems in that one if you want to [5:23] define a small space or make something [5:25] pop off the page see on the video [5:30] [Music]
