[7:24] pleasure to be here again this year this
[7:26] is it it all comes down to this 10
[7:29] vehicles but only one can win the 2021
[7:33] hot wheels legends tour finale is here
[7:34] and we're about to end the hunt for the
[7:36] next life-size custom car worthy of
[7:38] becoming a hot wheels die cast it all
[7:40] began in 2018 was the first legends tour
[7:42] to celebrate hot wheels 50th anniversary
[7:45] to find a winner and then in the past
[7:47] few years thousands of custom cars have
[7:49] entered the hot wheels legends tour with
[7:51] stops all over the globe this year fans
[7:54] families and car enthusiasts worldwide
[7:56] participated in virtual as well as
[7:58] several in-person hot wheels legends
[8:00] tour stops submitting their custom
[8:03] builds that's right auto enthusiasts
[8:05] ranging from car designers race car
[8:06] drivers collectors stunt drivers you
[8:09] name it judge the cars from across the
[8:11] world and selected 17 semi-finalists and
[8:14] based on the most fan votes your votes
[8:16] on hot wheel officials ig the mobile one
[8:18] fan favorite car was chosen joining the
[8:21] ranks of the other semi-finalists again
[8:24] after careful scrutiny over the last
[8:26] couple weeks more judges from across the
[8:28] globe put their heads together in two
[8:30] semi-final rounds and narrowed it down
[8:32] to the 10 most die-cast-worthy cars and
[8:35] now here today at the grand finale our
[8:37] remaining contenders will go up against
[8:40] each other for a chance to be
[8:42] immortalized as the 2021 hot wheels
[8:45] legend grand finale winner
[8:48] okay

[8:52] up cars he just does what he wants we're
[8:54] in his house so why not

[9:48] the twin mill existed in 164th and then
[9:51] kind of pumped it up to this form we're
[9:53] kind of reverse engineering now with the
[9:55] hot wheels legends winner being shrunk
[9:56] down to 164. well see i live in a hilly
[9:59] area so i need that extra engine to kind
[10:01] of get over
[10:02] you know over the hill but
[10:04] what do you think miles per gallon is on
[10:05] this thing uh it's gallons per mile
[10:07] yeah yeah that's all right yeah not the
[10:09] most fuel-efficient vehicle no most

[19:36] the hobby is it's only about 125 years

[19:53] technology the fun part is stuff they

[21:20] global standpoint we have cars from all

[23:03] year ago snoop dogg was jumping for joy
[23:05] fluffy was pumped but riley stare was
[23:07] the most pumped with that 1970 pontiac
[23:10] trans am like i say sponsor me white

[23:13] pretty much it got endorsed because uh
[23:15] it looks awesome so congratulations now

[23:18] these vehicles did not make it in but
[23:20] they all are definitely touted beautiful

[23:24] winner the 74 ford escort could do some
[23:26] burnouts and it looks great the 2021
[23:29] miami round 4 winner the 1929 ford model
[23:32] a i really think this thing won because
[23:33] the juxtaposition of what you would
[23:35] normally see in miami great looking
[23:37] vehicle and as we move on
[23:39] to brazil this vehicle is deemed ybl
[23:42] yellow black lethal just an amalgamation
[23:45] of you can see drag car street car this
[23:46] thing is street legal and it's got a
[23:48] parachute up back unfortunately does not
[23:50] advance on but love the vehicle overall
[23:52] and you can talk about juxtaposition we
[23:53] go to detroit motor city the winner in
[23:55] detroit is a 75 opel manta some people
[23:58] have never even seen this vehicle and i
[24:00] think that's again that's why people
[24:01] scratch their heads but overall really
[24:03] cool vehicle it's begging to be driven
[24:05] now uh just most previously a semifinals
[24:08] from chile this vehicle 1947 ford coupe
[24:11] jay ward from pixar a great amount of
[24:12] education information on the history of
[24:15] this particular vehicle now as we go to
[24:17] the lone star state 2021 houston texas
[24:19] round seven winner this is the so
[24:22] sick c6 a great looking car again that
[24:25] sponsor be white big broad arches

[24:29] a notable mention this is a vehicle i

[25:47] story this car really exudes garage
[25:49] spirit we'll get to the criteria in just

[25:54] but it is driven around georgia i know

[26:03] overall that is an absolute hot rod now

[26:07] iteration from what i understand of the
[26:09] livery and i think they absolutely

[36:47] the right proportions of the lower

[46:51] the owner operator and builder of high
[46:53] class it is heavily inspired by gassers
[46:55] but it melds a few other styles together
[46:58] i found the perfect candidate a 1968
[47:00] mercedes 250s that was abandoned in a
[47:03] field and after picking it up i put my
[47:05] best friend colby to work and we laid
[47:07] down the basic livery unfortunately not
[47:09] even a week later i received devastating
[47:11] news a drive around a stop sign and
[47:13] colby hit the a-pillar he didn't survive
[47:17] what was once a long-term build
[47:18] immediately turned into a short-term
[47:20] memorial project
[47:22] it was a three-month learning experience
[47:24] using parts from my 73 camaro
[47:27] materials i had lying around and a
[47:29] majority of the work was done outside in
[47:31] the elements despite what the founders
[47:33] say i don't have my own shop
[47:35] the chassis is from the 94 chevy s10 the

[54:00] with coronet front fenders and a super
[54:03] bird nose
[54:04] what would it mean to me to have this
[54:05] car become a hot wheels i'd be

[60:17] underneath it's highly detailed
[60:19] to have my car immortalized as a hot
[60:21] wheels diecast model would be insane it
[60:24] would be a dream ending to this amazing
[60:27] journey my one-year-old son hayes will
[60:29] then be able to play with a toy version
[60:31] of his dad's favorite car making all the
[60:34] rap sounds all day

[60:39] performs even better like i said i i

[62:04] mixing of cultures and sort of
[62:06] perspectives is what makes kind of uh

[67:47] this one uh is the most recent um that
[67:50] we just reviewed and and
[67:52] got sculpt approval on
[67:54] the echo jet uh this is a solid model so
[67:56] this is kind of before we turn it over
[67:58] to our engineering partners and and part
[68:00] it out and everything like these two are
[68:02] parted out right so these
[68:03] are final um
[68:06] patterns these are these are the actual
[68:07] patterns that that will be tooled up and
[68:10] used so cool um yeah the 3d printing is
[68:12] amazing now i mean we can print any
[68:14] color we want so i try to print it in
[68:15] the colors that the cars are and so you
[68:17] get a real sense of what it's going to
[68:18] look and what i think is really cool i
[68:19] touched on earlier is you know the this
[68:21] car there's only one of one in the world
[68:24] this echo echo jet right right it's
[68:25] called it's here in the building right
[68:27] you only you only own the real one but
[68:29] now everybody can own one yeah no that's
[68:31] it's fantastic it's really good and this
[68:34] car this car one what what kind of
[68:36] accolades this vehicle i've got hot rod

[73:23] that van mira van so it's a pretty rare

[73:30] the color is so popping great i can
[73:32] definitely see it as a hot wheel car
[73:34] it's also a rare car it's a diat suit

[73:41] the steel wheels kind of americana vibe

[73:45] interior something that you know
[73:47] designers have been trying to do in show
[73:49] cars for years and he actually built it

[73:52] and also what's amazing is it it looks
[73:54] super tall i bet you could stand in it
[73:57] and being able to make such a narrow
[73:59] tall car look fairly stable is pretty
[74:02] cool so he widened out the track and it
[74:05] just got that feel that

[74:09] i like the roof rack too it's kind of
[74:11] got a surf wagon vibe yeah obviously

[74:16] mundane and practical like a delivery

[75:36] harvey aluminum special
[75:38] which acted as my inspiration to build

[75:42] the car is cut from 6061 aluminum panels
[75:46] that were water jet cut
[75:48] and heliarc welded here in the shop
[75:51] to form a very strong monocoque and
[75:54] bulkhead
[75:55] chassis
[75:57] i really hope that lulu
[75:59] will be immortalized by winning this
[76:01] year's top wheels contest
[76:04] she will serve to inspire generations
[76:06] children

[77:33] watchmaker right you know this is a guy
[77:35] who could take a watch apart and put it

[77:46] there's nothing that's not it's all in
[77:48] perfect scale i mean
[77:51] any person could drive it
[77:53] it looks comfortable it looks fun with

[78:31] does a sideway drift in this this will
[78:33] be the most aerodynamic vehicle in the
[78:34] world i mean look at this

[78:39] proportions of everything here the kind

[78:43] very gentle sculpture
[78:45] is just amazing and just everything is
[78:47] proportional correct done like like jay

[78:53] jump in it yeah and kind of just drop it

[78:57] the details like all these little screws
[78:59] are even correctly done like look how

[79:09] normally if you do this if if you end up
[79:11] just doing an extrusion it's fairly easy
[79:14] but you can actually see he put planned
[79:15] view into it and there's some emotions
[79:17] happening and that's actually what's
[79:19] difficult when you build a car so i
[79:20] agree with jay this is probably one of
[79:22] the what i've seen one of the best
[79:24] builds and what you really feel there
[79:25] was a lot of emotion going into it
[79:27] speaking of emotion i will tell you that
[79:29] this is the first time i'm seeing this
[79:30] car we've only seen digitally through
[79:32] our hot wheels legends tour stops i
[79:33] don't really care for this car digitally
[79:35] seeing it in person i actually do
[79:37] appreciate it a lot more different it
[79:39] really does yeah you guys see in reality
[79:40] just how shiny and chrome is every car
[79:42] you gotta see in a row every time a new
[79:44] car you see in the pictures like ah it's
[79:45] not that great then you see in reality
[79:47] you start appreciating what the design
[79:48] and the engineers were thinking that's

[83:05] four-speed three-speed transmission

[83:12] to have the car immortalized as a hot

[85:23] there too even with the fins the lines
[85:25] of it right so like the big fins kind of
[85:26] not as big as some of the 50s american
[85:28] cars but still has that kind of
[85:30] silhouette yeah that's what's fun when
[85:32] you go to england there's so much neat
[85:33] stuff in little garage little cottage

[86:28] with his whole family they all go racing
[86:30] together i think he has three daughters
[86:32] and his daughters are racing it now

[86:47] 60s they were very into the early nhra

[86:54] built their own rules and they built
[86:55] their own track and it's so cool to see

[89:29] all-wheel drive drivetrain and really

[89:36] creation made into a hot wheels is hard

[89:41] bit of a trophy as to

[89:45] brought me to where i am today and even
[89:47] more importantly

[92:45] this is not going to break it has it has
[92:47] all the right parts i mean you look
[92:48] underneath the suspension how it's
[92:49] prepared i mean this is developed just
[92:51] for this vehicle and that's the
[92:53] intention is is building this developing
[92:55] it overall and like you said nice
[92:57] classic interior touch but uh yeah what
[93:00] are you looking at the plexiglas yeah
[93:02] the custom custom molded rear so
[93:04] obviously it's taking them
[93:05] yeah and you can see the power plant in
[93:08] there obviously you know it's got to
[93:09] have some juice there's it's super
[93:11] detailed i love all the detail like you
[93:13] know this is another one you could spend
[93:14] hours at just looking at all the the
[93:16] little areas and stuff and that that's
[93:17] always fun to recapture in 164 scales to
[93:20] get all that as well as i mean turn
[93:23] turning a car into an off-road vehicle
[93:25] uh the other thing i'm really amazed uh
[93:27] learning in the video was that this was
[93:29] a convertible oh yeah you know like
[93:31] catch that the first time i you know i

[106:15] to us and it's it's an amazing
[106:17] experience to be a part of this and it's

[106:56] little bit more time elaborating about
[106:57] them mad mike this nissan 350z like you
[107:00] said had an ipad not a bunch of
[107:01] technology but did have an ipad but
[107:03] overall i think very unique very very
[107:06] unique um for for the guy to take a red
[107:10] car and just make this
[107:12] figure out of it yeah it was just
[107:13] awesome and then to put the technology
[107:16] inside you know it's just a man my heart
[107:18] you know yeah it's incredible work you
[107:20] did and a garage-built car henrik you
[107:22] were you were really admiring the lines
[107:24] and the execution of it overall i
[107:26] thought that was well i thought it was
[107:27] very cool the way he kind of took the
[107:29] inner of the car out in front i thought
[107:31] that was really cool and he kind of
[107:33] painted it nicely and made it up i also
[107:36] really like that that p1800 volvo it was
[107:39] cleaned away it's very difficult for
[107:41] anybody especially a designer to stop
[107:43] putting stuff on a car and he kept it so
[107:46] clean
[107:47] which i liked and and you know all these
[107:49] cars lulu i mean beautifully done so
[107:52] it's it's really tough because they were
[107:54] all fantastic efforts yeah and
[107:56] unbelievable elena let's talk a little
[107:57] bit about the rat rod the the mexican
[107:59] built-in titles but uh what do you think
[108:01] of that vehicle um i mean first of all
[108:03] just the the owner seemed so sweet his
[108:06] video he's talking about his family he
[108:08] said he was the youngest of nine kids
[108:09] growing up and then he has his own kids
[108:11] and the car
[108:12] has you know a tribute to them in it
[108:14] plus it already looks like a hot rod
[108:16] like you can you could feel it in your
[108:18] hand just looking at it how fun it would
[108:20] be to to hold it or to send it sliding
[108:22] across the floor go on those tracks rip
[108:24] around the suspension that would be
[108:26] really cool maybe red line club you know
[108:28] i think this car would really flourish
[108:30] in like the red line you know getting
[108:31] that getting just a little more refined
[108:33] kind of deal i don't know we'll see as
[108:35] we move on to uh we move on to our next
[108:37] vehicle and uh ted you really like this
[108:39] car i think this was one throughout the
[108:41] year that you you kind of like the
[108:42] juxtaposition of gasser meets
[108:44] mercedes-benz and this is our u.s canada
[108:46] winner that high class but if you could
[108:48] elaborate on that vehicle yeah that's
[108:50] that's a really really fun car really
[108:52] unique um and and i'm glad i get to talk
[108:54] about it when brendan's sitting right
[108:56] behind me so

[108:59] juxtaposition like you don't normally
[109:01] see gassers and mercedes mashed together

[109:25] it's just just so many mismatched panels

[109:31] overall again just it's here in the
[109:32] building it just has these caricature
[109:34] style elements to it but overall is this
[109:36] yeah i mean i mean this obviously reads
[109:38] as a hot wheels it's got that stance and
[109:40] proportion and um you know
[109:43] you get all the different color breaks
[109:44] and stuff which is fun a lot a lot
[109:46] visual there to to work with um
[109:49] uh i'm a big fan of the car for sure
[109:51] when you when you do the swipes you know
[109:53] again the deco when you actually execute
[109:55] the vehicle there's a lot of colors that
[109:57] we're going to be running through we're
[109:58] screening this vehicle right yeah that i
[110:00] mean this one would definitely give us a
[110:03] run for your money yeah for sure there's
[110:05] there's a lot to figure out there and

[110:46] brought heinrich in to help me design

[113:33] the lulu very awesome unique vehicle and
[113:35] again seeing it here in the building is
[113:37] a is extra special so uh batuski what do
[113:40] you think of the lulu

[113:43] mean it's an amazing build it's it's so
[113:46] clean like when you look at it up close
[113:47] you can see like how perfect the tig

[114:29] forms that you have but it is the one
[114:30] car that that reads as a hot was
[114:33] original as it is right like it feels
