[00:01] details we never caught, like the awesome scorpion suit that we see in actually built all the way back in this 2017 movie, revealed in just a throwaway line. That's one of dozens new details that we found. I'm Eric Voss of the New
[00:14] Rockstars channel, and this is a re-breakdown of 2017's Spider-Man Homecoming, Spider-Man's first official film in the MCU after appearing in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. Spider-Man Homecoming was the first of
[00:26] Watts, and really laid the groundwork for what audiences could expect from Tom month of July, as we count down the weeks to Spider-Man Brand New Day, here revisiting all three of these films: Spider-Man Homecoming, Spider-Man Far
[00:40] From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home for even more Easter eggs and details that we never saw before. And as we head into Spider-Man Brand New Day, you know merch, and we have tons of great Spider-Man inspired designs available

[01:05] youth's point of view of the Avengers. The OG Avengers crew is all represented. Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye is way in the back, almost added like an afterthought. This low-fi opening will happen again at
[01:19] the start of Spider-Man: Far From Home with the Midtown High News recapping the this drawing is done by the child of Adrian Toomes. Adrian Toomes is played this kid's drawing to one of his crew working salvage after the Battle of New
[01:33] York. This crew person is Phineas Mason, aka the Tinkerer. The Tinkerer first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man number two in 1963. Yeah, the second issue, the same issue that also featured the first appearance of the Vulture. Mason will be
[01:45] the one to build Toomes's Vulture flight suit, as well as various other weapons and tools utilizing Chitauri, Ultron, and other stolen confiscated DODC tech. We will later learn that the kid that drew this is Liz Allan, Peter's future
[01:57] Chitauri Leviathan coming through the portal in the drawing looks almost like a spider, you could say, with all the lines emanating out. We cut to Stark Tower post-battle, and just like in Liz's drawing, the tower has just the A
[02:10] remaining on it, a symbol of this building becoming Avengers Tower. And as we saw in the 2012 Avengers film, Grand Central Station like this is located leads directly to Avengers Tower, which in the MCU is located at the location of
[02:24] down to see Toomes' crew cleaning up the foot of the Avengers Tower, including the same Leviathan that Thor and Hulk took down. Toomes shows one of his men how to remove pieces from one of these
[02:36] Herman Schultz, played by Bokeem Woodbine, who will use some of the Shocker of this movie. The Department of Damage Control shows up to take over the he needs this job to keep his company afloat. The DODC has been around since
[02:51] the first Iron Man film, and in the wake of Shield being dismantled at the end of DODC has taken over many of their responsibilities. In this scene, the DODC is led by Anne Marie Hoag, played by Tim Daly from Doogie Howser, M.D.
[03:04] by Agent Cleary when the organization to deal with the containment of enhanced individuals, which now in brand new day might shift to a full-on mutant hunting authority by the government led by
[03:17] Tracie Thoms' character William Metzger. Toomes punches one of the damage control >> Maybe next time don't overextend yourself.
[03:30] as Jackson Brice, who will later make the same mistake with Toomes and gets a >> Maybe your wife would like to know where you really get your money from. >> You know what? >> What?
[03:47] another one of Liz's drawing of the Hulk hung up on the wall. Toomes and his crew decide to keep some of the Chitauri tech in their possession and become bad guys. >> The world's changed. It's time we changed, too.
[03:59] >> And then we jump to 8 years later, which Marvel authorities later confirmed was a mistake. This prologue is definitely set in 2012, just of the film takes place right after Captain America: Civil War, which took
[04:12] place in 2016. So, it really should have just been 4 years later. I think the original version of this prologue had no time jump title, since that would be title of the movie anyway. But then a last-minute studio note worried
[04:24] timeline of this movie, leading to this rushed last-minute edit with very little fact-checking. Marvel addressed this error in their 2023 book, The Marvel Timeline, of this discrepancy. >> Miss Minutes shows up and says, on page
[04:38] 173, >> Red line alert. Hi again, Adrian Toomes says the Battle of New York was 8 years ago, but that event was only 4 years prior. This one's a real head-scratcher for us. I reckon an analyst misplaced
[04:50] >> I was thinking Marvel Studios could just fix this with Spider-Man Homecoming on Disney Plus by just, you know, snip snipping that out of the upload on Disney Plus. However, the fact that Spider-Man Homecoming is on Disney Plus
[05:02] is just a temporary licensing agreement between Disney and Sony. Marvel and forever be their own IP on the platform, like episodes of Ms. Marvel that changed upload, but they can't make internal
[05:15] just broadcasting on their platform as a temporary sharing licensing deal. But regardless, it's now 2016, and Toomes' operation is in full swing, making all sorts of insane weaponry and tools, and stealing more alien tech from the DODC
[05:28] that have transpired in the years since, like the Battle of Sokovia. Toomes' vulture body armor is the salvaged Chitauri armor seen on Hydra soldiers in Age of Ultron, making him a scavenger of scavengers, the ultimate vulture
[05:41] persona. Later, his helmet hair and flight jacket collar evoke his comics look. The vulture was originally intended to be the villain of a fourth to come out in 2011, a character played by John Malkovich, but that film was
[05:54] scrapped and Sony rebooted the franchise with Andrew Garfield and Mark Webb. Both the villain and the hero of Homecoming are self-made characters, really embracing the classic DIY soul of Peter Parker. They are both also in a way a
[06:06] result of Tony Stark. Stark Industries joint venture with the DODC to clean up New York City is what pushes Toomes into becoming the Vulture, and Tony bringing airport battle really ignites the passion for becoming a real hero as
[06:20] Spider-Man. And yes, Peter's Stark tech suit is overpowered, but that is the point of this movie. Deep down, it's a coming of age tale from toys to tech, and Peter wins because he becomes the more responsible self-made hero than
[06:32] Adrian Toomes is. Michael Giacchino once again composes the music of this movie introduced Avengers Tower with major chords,
[06:47] and then he inverts it to minor chords when it comes to Toomes. the Avengers actions because as we see in this movie, New York City in the MCU is a tale of two cities, a bright shining tower of Avengers Tower and an
[07:02] other ways. Michael Giacchino also adapts the '60s Spider-Man animated series into the orchestral theme that we hear over the titles.
[07:15] film by Peter Parker as we're shown Peter's homemade video from his time in Civil War. A really fun way to revisit the airport battle in Germany. It starts heavy New York accent. Tom Holland really worked on nailing the American
[07:28] accent as it exists in Queens. >> Yeah, um and uh with pickles and can you >> Which really helps him sound authentic throughout all of these movies. Peter's travel video includes a shot of the World's Fair, a callback to the Stark
[07:40] movie came out, was retconned to be Peter Parker's first appearance in the MCU. He was the kid in the Iron Man mask whom Iron Man saved. Robert Downey Jr.'s name in the end credits of this movie features art that recreates that
[07:53] particular moment. Peter gets a shot of Happy Hogan snoring on the plane, a Happy as he's wearing a CPAP machine in Spider-Man: No Way Home. There are shots of Peter exploring Berlin, which is funny to think that Tony got Peter there
[08:06] early enough to give him a day to adjust so that he wouldn't be jet-lagged for the hotel, Peter gets his Stark designed suit that he wears in this battle, and show up to the fight in his homemade suit. So, the airport battle was Peter's
[08:20] first time wearing that new Stark suit, which explains why he says this in Civil little better. It's just a new suit. >> to see Spider-Man's Civil War entrance from another angle, where he hilariously asks, "Who's that new guy?" in reference
[08:33] in the timeline, the public has never heard of Black Panther. After the Civil >> and Tony drop Peter off at the Stark Internship Retreat. Everyone was >> Come on. >> See, Happy is is hoping to get bumped up
[08:48] security and >> Tony's forehead of security joke calls >> This is forehead of security. >> And notice that seconds before Happy honked, Peter's eyes darted left, and unlike Tony, he doesn't jump at the
[09:01] honk. It's a little example of Peter's spidey sense. He saw the near crash Peter's heavy suitcase, yet Peter carries it no problem because he has super strength. We switch from point of view home video to objective framing
[09:14] >> Why don't you grab Peter's case out of the trunk? >> This transition locks in our picture of Peter still learning the responsibility being self-made. >> It's not a hug. I'm just grabbing the
[09:28] yet. >> Ah, in Avengers: Endgame, these two heroes will finally get that hug. Peter's shirt reads, "The physics are will wear this same shirt while he's being interrogated by the DODC in
[09:41] Spider-Man No Way Home. We jump ahead two more months. Civil War took place over the summer of 2016, so school is back in session. Peter sends many unanswered texts to Happy, whose contact photo is Happy snoring from the plane. I
[09:54] include, "How's Black Widow? Or should I say, Natasha? Helped clear the road for an ambulance. Stopped a guy trying to up Queens. He's really great for the neighborhood." There's also a text about
[10:07] uses to catch him in a lie. >> Uh I'm at band practice. >> That's odd. Happy told me you quit band 6 weeks ago. only notice it just by watching this over and over again, and it shows that
[10:20] Tony and Happy were actually reading all of these texts, which I think is so sweet. But also, if Peter had not quit marching band, he would have been even closer to the Midtown High marching band kids who got blipped and returned
[10:32] embarrassingly in Far From Home. Also, notice the tiny crack in Peter's screen. the movie, the screen is more and more damaged, showing the increasing threat level of Peter's world and forming a spider web crack. Peter attends the
[10:46] Technology, which in the MCU was established in 1962, the same year number 15. The Midtown Morning News is spelling as the Daily Bugle's Betty Brant from the comics. Elizabeth Banks
[11:01] played Betty Brant in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man franchise. Betty's co-host is Thompson in the comics. We also meet this movie universe's Flash Thompson, played by Tony Revolori, whose license plate reads, "Flash Drive." A little
[11:14] movie are worth looking at. Actually, at last summer's Comic-Con, I drunkenly ran of these like looking at each other like, "Wait, I've seen you on my on my screens." And I'm like, "Can you tell me if you're in the next one?" And
[11:28] he goes, "OBVIOUSLY, NO." BUT THERE is at least a photo of Eugene in Spider-Man Brand New Day. The school mural shows real scientists such as Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, and Carl Sagan, astronaut Dr. Mae Jemison, mathematician
[11:40] Al-Khwarizmi, and also the famous MCU scientist Howard Stark and Dr. Abraham Erskine, creator of the Super Soldier Serum played by Stanley Tucci. In Spider-Man No Way Home, they will have added Hank Pym to this mural. There's
[11:53] famous physicists in Peter's classroom. Professor Banner, of course, will later Peter Parker in Spider-Man Brand New Day. Peter's locker number is 1184, storyline in the Amazing Spider-Man comics which took place in 1984 and
[12:09] featured Peter returning to New York City with his new symbiotic black suit following the Secret Wars saga. The November issue of that year, 11, had was actually an alien symbiote. And hey, probably in Avengers Doomsday and Secret
[12:22] of Brand New Day, one of these things is going to show Tom Holland in that black suit. At the locker, we meet Ned Leeds played by Jacob Batalon. He's Peter's best friend and future guy in the chair. Ned is holding an Emperor Palpatine LEGO
[12:34] minifig, something that will become a totem for Peter that he will carry into the screenplay. In this scene, an extra briefly looks at the camera. >> I'll knock out the basic bones of the Death Star at my place, and and then
[12:47] most part the bit about >> Heavy cream. >> I love this detail because Peter tunes out Ned telling him that he'd come over forgets that Ned would be in his room and accidentally outs himself to him.
[13:00] Decathlon in DC on the wall, which we see again just before their practice a foreshadowing of our journey to Washington D.C. in this film. In the classroom, Peter answers the problem about the physics of pendulums,
[13:13] calculating his swing trajectories in the street. Like on the cargo plane jet propulsion physics to turn that plane. And in Spider-Man No Way Home, Peter smartly uses these kinds of geometric and trigonometric solutions to
[13:27] defeat Doctor Strange in the mirror dimension. Meanwhile, on his laptop, the video he watches was uploaded by an account called Rocket Robinson 67, which production with behind-the-scenes videos, including a mention by Betty and
[13:40] Asgardian mascot. >> The girls basketball team takes on the >> Meanwhile, the Midtown High School mascot is the Tigers, a nod to Mary Jane's classic go get 'em tiger line to
[13:53] Peter Parker. We actually see some go get 'em tigers during decathlon practice. Meanwhile, the video URL on his screen is actually the same URL of dropped on YouTube months before this movie came out. And in the recommended
[14:06] Tutorial, which is a channel with surrealist how-to videos and a bunch of short films from Waverly Films director Jon Watts' NYU filmmaking group. Actually, future Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier was also part of this
[14:19] group, and Schreier will be directing the 2028 X-Men movie for Marvel Studios. Marvel Studios feels so comfortable introducing their Jean Grey of their mutant saga in a Tom Holland Spider-Man movie. Kevin Feige might just trust this
[14:32] whole Waverly Films crew to tell these youth coming-of-age stories that connect so well with younger audiences. Now, these YouTube videos of Peter's heroics also see them in Captain America: Civil War. They're actually how Tony Stark
[14:45] tracked Peter Parker down. I theorize that Peter may be uploading these videos it might be someone else, and he is actually one of the commenters in the comment section who calls this footage we see Peter mixing his own web fluid
[14:58] labeled 3.01, maybe a nod to this being the third live-action Spider-Man. We can see that it contains at least salicylic acid, which is usually used for skin care, toluene, which Peter has spelled wrong, is a fast-drying solvent that
[15:11] evaporates quickly. Maybe this is what helps his webs organically break down over the city. He tells Aaron Davis that the webbing will take 2 hours to finally, we see methanol, which has a ton of applications in chemical
[15:24] manufacturing. In the background, you can hear the teacher discussing Niels Bohr, a Danish physicist who worked on quantum theory. Maybe Peter should be upcoming adventures with the multiverse. Peter and Ned watch Liz and Betty hang a
[15:37] seem to be watching Liz, Ned might actually be more interested in Betty given their sudden romance in Far From Home. Peter's academic decathlon group includes Michelle Jones, played by Zendaya, and later revealed to be the MJ
[15:50] of this universe. There's also a Cindy Moon on this team, aka Silk from the comics. The team is led by Mr. Harrington, played by Martin Starr, whom Kevin Feige confirmed was the same character as Martin Starr's grad student
[16:02] lore of Mr. Harrington is also super teacher whose wife left him during the Blip by taking her dusting to a brand new day, one of Ned's suspects along with Eugene Flash Thompson for the
[16:15] brand new day scene that I saw at CinemaCon. Once school is out, Peter Spider-Manning. He hops over a fence, really showcasing Tom Holland's ballet background. He was a Billy Elliot, after all. Actually, on Amy Poehler's recent
[16:29] Good Hang podcast, Holland talks about how he and Jon Bernthal recorded each roles all the way back in 2015, and how Tom did an acrobatic flip in his audition, which did probably lead to him getting the part. And that might also be
[16:42] part of the origin of the Spider-Man do a flip scene that we'll see in a second. Peter grabs a sandwich from Delmar's, and as he orders it, I cannot help of where he talks about how New Yorkers order food.
[16:54] >> A lot of Americans, New Yorkers especially, when they're ordering food, food. In England, it says, "Please, may I have the burger with number two. Thank you, thank you, thank you." And in America, it's totally fine to be like,
[17:07] be doing scenes, and my dialect coach >> Ooh. >> Like, yeah. if you're asking for a burger. >> Yeah, um and uh with pickles and can you
[17:19] >> Yeah, Peter does ask that they squish his sandwich down real flat cuz our man loves the panini and because he needs to tuck it into his Spider-Man suit. Mr. Delmar asks about how hot Peter's aunt is to his coworker in Spanish which
[17:32] Spanish classes but honestly casting Marisa Tomei as Aunt May is an inspired War. A lot of people are crushing on her in this film. Peter awkwardly changes make Tom Holland go through these motions in just this long take.
[17:47] Specifically with the way we see the suit vacuum sealed to shrink wrap around him so he could have worn his other clothes under it but he didn't want the going to be a significant change in brand new day when Destin Daniel Cretton
[18:00] to show the wrinkles in the loose-fitting parts of the suit. Also, I backpack to the dumpster, some garbage juice just spills all over it immediately. When Peter looks at his web shooters, Peter can see in his heads-up
[18:13] display how much web fluid he has. I love this little detail as well. The when he has to change out his web fluid, you can see the meter is at 0% and flashing red. Peter's bike sign text placement forces his use of a hyphen as
[18:27] he does later on Toomes' sign because remember kids, Spider-Man is a New Rockstars videos don't hyphenate it. It's a YouTube algorithm thing. Don't front of the elevated train recalls Toby's Spider-Man stopping the train in
[18:40] Spider-Man 2. Zach Cherry plays a hot dog vendor asking Spider-Man to do a Shang-Chi during the bus fight in San Francisco and he actually made a cameo in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Zach Cherry talked about how
[18:55] supposed to wave up at Spider-Man but he used his UCB improv background to ad-lib eventually led to the do a flip that Spider-Man has to oblige and actually do boombox is actually a cameo by Kirk Thatcher who played the train punk in
[19:10] Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home. Michael Giacchino, composer of this film, would in Werewolf by Night. When Spider-Man helps the Dominican lady who later gives him a churro, actually in this scene behind them you can see the churro cart
[19:22] as a neighbor shouting from a window after Spider-Man sets off a car alarm. windows is so New York. This cameo with Stan Lee was likely directed by James Gunn, who directed three of four cameos that Stan Lee shot in one day. Gunn also
[19:37] directed Lee's cameos for Doctor Strange in 2016 and his cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Gunn said that he was the one who got to introduce Tom Holland Holland, "Everybody says you're great. Personally, I don't see it." During this
[19:51] whole montage, Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones plays. The Ramones are also from Queens. Peter stops ATM robbers with Avengers masks, which reminds a lot of a comics. >> Whoa, you're the Avengers.
[20:03] >> Thor and Hulk were not in Civil War, so Peter did not meet them and he has Thor punch Hulk, which in a way is kind of payback for Hulk's punch on Thor in for identity theft, which is kind of funny because the robbers in the scene
[20:16] identities. They use the anti-gravity gun and Peter's enhanced grappling rips up the floor tiles. Peter saves Delmar and follows the screenwriting adage, "Save the bodega cat." In this case, the cat's name is Murphy. When Peter calls
[20:29] Happy Hogan, the graffiti behind him reads Bagley, an homage to Mark Bagley, number of Spider-Man issues. Happy and Tony's Dum-E robot is being cleared out of the tower because this tower is sold. Actually, if you remember, Dum-E was
[20:42] of his Malibu mansion in the final shot keeping Dum-E as we see it again in Spider-Man No Way Home and Dum-E will be played in a virtual human form by actor Henry Lewis in Vision Quest. But yes,
[20:55] this is the origin of Avengers Tower being sold, a question that would not be don't know if Tony Stark sold the tower directly to Val and the Ox Group, but he sold it to someone else who ended up selling it to Val or Val just acquired
[21:09] takeover. Val, of course, wants to remodel this tower and turn it into the watchtower for Century and the Ox Group, but in the end of the Thunderbolts film, Avengers. In Peter's room, we see he collects Star Wars figurines, including
[21:22] this AT-AT or AT-AT. The fact that he's interested in this calls back his battle strategy on Giant Man during the Civil War airport battle where he specifically references the AT-ATs in The Empire Strikes Back as a way to trip him up and
[21:34] York Mets pennant and a hat. In the comics, Spider-Man is canonically a Mets fan. And it turns out in this hilarious shot that Ned is already in this room, which is how he learns that Peter is
[21:47] Avenger and Peter says, "Yeah, basically." While he turns down becoming will be knighted as an Avenger by Tony in Infinity War. But I love this gag of Ned dropping the LEGO Death Star on the floor. The rebuilding of this particular
[22:01] LEGO set will be a running bit in Spider-Man No Way Home. And in Brand New Day, a trailer shot shows Ned dropping his Spidey Tracker tablet upon seeing framing of him dropping the Death Star LEGO figurine in this shot. May and
[22:14] Peter go out for dinner and larb. And right next door to the Thai restaurant is the Korean Church of Asgard. I guess there are now active worshipers of Thor in the MCU. On the news, we see a file photo of Spider-Man coming out of a
[22:26] this photo. It's where Peter had to rapidly change and it probably was very Spider-Man Far From Home, a fan prints out this photo and makes Peter sign it. spots something like that happening to turn around and run the other way.
[22:41] safe, but once she learns that Peter has powers, that's when the idea of great comes with it kicks in. She even packs his suit for him in Far From Home when only one thing more frustrating than getting excited to watch a movie only to

[24:15] onto Eddie Brock. There's also a comic where Peter does summon a spider army. powers, he kind of controls an army of ants. Peter also mentions here that he was bitten by a spider, the classic Spider-Man origin story, but that that
[24:27] spider is now dead. Interestingly, in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the Norman Osborn who comes into the 616 reality confirms that there is no Oscorp and that there is no Norman Osborn at that point in this reality. And to be clear,
[24:39] to be telling the truth in that line. But also, it's not in every comic where the spider that bit Peter came from Oscorp. It's still a mystery what spider bit Peter in the MCU. A theory that I've had is that Peter might have snuck into
[24:52] the gamma lab in the old Avengers tower before the the moved out of it, and that were working on things, that there might have been a spider that just got some spider that bit Peter. Hey, maybe that's an answer that could come as soon as
[25:06] canonical to Spider-Man story, of course, is the death of Uncle Ben, often Parker to not intervene. These three Spider-Man films never explained what happened to Uncle Ben in the MCU, but a line of dialogue between Peter and Tony
[25:20] thinking that that was a reference to this Peter's Uncle Ben. can, but you don't, happen because of you. >> However, very recently in 2026, the
[25:33] Russo brothers, who directed Civil War and initially cast Tom Holland and that scene in Civil War, they said during an interview with CBR that their responsible for Uncle Ben's death. >> And what Tom Holland is is an actor,
[25:48] Ben's death, I think it's a very different character. So, in our minds, no, he wasn't responsible for Uncle Ben's death, and that would have been a different interpretation, more more a
[26:01] >> Now, eventually we'll see that Aunt May's death in Spider-Man No Way Home becomes the canon event death for the MCU's Peter Parker, as she's the one who delivers the with great power there must also come great responsibility line.
[26:14] full of heroes. He saw Iron Man fight Whiplash at the Stark Expo, Hulk and the Battle of New York. He knows that the power he's been given means he has Meanwhile, what was the accident then that caused the MCU Uncle Ben to die?
[26:30] Still, so many questions about this Peter Parker's origin. When Peter and Ned pass the ATM crime scene, Miss Hoag from the DODC is there supervising. Back in the school, we hear a teacher lecturing about the Sokovia Accords from
[26:42] >> The Sokovia Accords were put into place in the way >> If I was you, I'd stand on the edge of a building and just shoot it as far as I >> up. During the scene, Ned mentions standing on a ledge and shooting the web
[26:55] Maguire Spider-Man did, but who knows they were talking about. Interestingly, we're going to see Peter recreate that rooftop moment in Spider-Man Brand New Day, mentioning Peter 2.

[28:37] Spider-Man Brand New Day as Aunt May drops Ned and Peter off at Liz's party in the suburbs. She tries to reassure Peter as he he into a young adult. >> I know it's really hard trying to fit in with all the changes your body's going

[29:31] black hole grenades from the dark elves in Thor: The Dark World. Aaron Davis is also into the climbers, a nod to his role as the Prowler. Donald Glover actually makes a brief cameo as an alternate universe live-action Prowler
[29:43] Jackson Brice's shocker gauntlet was gauntlet in Civil War. It actually looks like this same gauntlet will reappear in shot of Peter falling out of the crumbling DODC building with the Hulk
[29:57] webbed up to the rubble behind him. Brock Rumlow's legacy never dies in the MCU. Peter slides over a car with the license plate of ASM 267, a nod to The Amazing Spider-Man 267 in which Peter heads to the 'burbs. Jon Watts shot all
[30:10] Day Off, specifically Ferris's sprint through the backyards. But Peter really takes a beating here, smashing into a brick grill pit. Yowch. Vulture grabs they're briefly framed in the moon, recreating the Batman logo, a nod to
[30:25] Michael Keaton's past role in the Tim Burton 1989 Batman and the 1992 Batman all winged superhero characters as he also played Birdman in Inarritu's amazing film. Peter saved by the Iron Man Mark 47. Yeah, the Mark 47 is
[30:40] upgraded from the broken Mark 46. It's remote controlled and notice how it continues to mirror Tony's gestures as he talks. Love that little detail. You suit through the heads-up display in his glasses, perhaps an early prototype for
[30:53] gives to Peter in Far From Home. Tony is attending a wedding in India where he also has his own Audi with a custom Stark vanity plate. Tony tells Peter that the suit has a tracker chip and heaters.
[31:08] >> The latest example of how Tony makes upgrades to fix past mistakes. Heaters in the first Iron Man film and to avoid freezing to death in Iron Man 3 and a locator chip after one of his Stark drones in Age of Ultron ended up getting
[31:22] loose and became what was known as Ultron. Also not having these heaters will be why Peter has to wear outerwear like a vest and a cap when it snows in was trying to take down the guy with the wings, Tony says,
[31:36] there are people who handle this sort of thing. >> A reference to Sonny Crockett, Don Johnson's character in Miami Vice. Don Madame Web. This reference flies so far over Peter's head he doesn't even
[31:48] register it. Tony tells Peter to forget the flying vulture guy, the first time in the film anyone refers to Adrian Toomes as the vulture. Tony tells Peter like the lady with the churro, which is more proof that Happy and Tony are
[32:01] reading all of his messages. Tony also brings up college telling Peter that he in Endgame and Peter had to turn to Doctor Strange for help instead. As he heads back, Peter a piece of hybrid alien tech he very carelessly takes it
[32:15] with Ned in shop class. He could have killed everyone. Ned and Peter decide to share an elaborate handshake, something wipes everyone's memory at the end of No Way Home. Back at Vulture's
[32:28] accidentally disintegrating Jackson Brice and tells Herman Schultz that he's given himself along with a jacket that matched the red and yellow color scheme how after this, Schultz will also start wearing the quilted yellow sleeves. On
[32:43] bus passes a road work sign mentioning Triskelion cleanup, referring to the project Insight wreckage from Captain America: Winter Soldier. Toomes' crew Civil War. >> The gauntlet from the Lagos cleanup. The
[32:56] still cleaning up that Triskelion mess. >> Actually, in a deleted scene, this school bus actually passes the Triskelion with a helicarrier crashed Captain America took down the skyscraper carriers for no reason?
[33:08] save us from tyranny. >> Yeah. questions, Peter answers this trivia question. >> Uh strontium, barium, vibranium. >> Yes, two actual alkaline metals and an
[33:20] Easter egg fictional metal. Because at this point in the MCU, vibranium was Vision's body. But Black Panther would be released to 7 months after this and much more common element throughout the MCU. MJ is reading Invitation to a
[33:34] Beheading by Vladimir Nabokov. The book is about a condemned man awaiting his other living creature in the cell with him is a spider. Yeah, kind of seems like all the reading material that MJ's reading through throughout this movie is
[33:47] eventually her deduction that this nerd in her class is Spider-Man. Ned has a laptop sticker for the subreddit r/pcmasterrace, making him a true guy in can see the circuitry on the inside, something that is even more apparent
[34:01] when Peter flips the suit inside out in No Way Home. Peter's suit AI voice, Karen, is voiced by former Betty Ross, Jennifer Connelly, married to Paul Bettany, who before Vision played the AI voice of Jarvis. Jennifer Connelly has
[34:13] series, but it is possible that she could make a surprise cameo. With Ned Peter has access to all of the functions of his suit. He deactivates instant kill, which is a function he will end up using in Avengers: Endgame. Peter ends
[34:26] up accidentally stuck inside the DDC vault, where he finds this metal ring. This was actually the turn key that Ultron rigged to drop Sokovia. There's also an Ultron head with the eyes still glowing red, which of course signified
[34:38] consciousness. Possible clue that Ultron lives and we are still living in the age of Ultron. Hopefully this detail will come back in Vision Quest. Peter plays web wings under his arms, which we will see him using in Far From Home to glide
[34:52] These originally were part of Steve Ditko's design from The Amazing Spider-Man shared the cover with the Fantastic Four. Peter tests out his along with the taser web are all functions that he will use later.
[35:05] Ricochet web to catch the elevator, web wings to sail over the helicopter, and web grenade on the ferry, and taser web used against Adrian Toomes. Peter runs past the reflecting pool where Cap lapped Sam on his left and Winter
[35:17] Washington Monument elevator is played by Martha Kelly, the actor who plays character Rue works for on Euphoria. Maybe it's a good thing MJ didn't go on at the bottom reading a book and wearing a shirt with Sylvia Plath. Of Plath's
[35:32] many poems, she did write one titled Spider. MJ will meet Spider-Man for the first time as Peter arrives to save Ned and his friends from the Chitauri energy exposed to radiation in the X-ray machine. The Washington Monument rescue
[35:45] Titanium Man in the Road to Civil War comics. While they will fix the damage damaged again in Captain America: Brave New World during the fight with the Red repaired in Thunderbolts. When Peter gets to the top of the monument, he's
[35:59] been this high before, telling us the guy really has stuck to Queens and he yet. Because the Washington Monument is less than half the height of the Empire State Building. His eye pieces glow red a little to indicate when he's using his
[36:12] X-ray function. And when he uses his chest drone, the drone camera displays a little A113 Easter egg, a reference to the famous CalArts classroom where a lot learned their thing. Peter misses his chance to recreate the upside down kiss
[36:26] from the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man with Kirsten Dunst. At this point we cut back to Toomes and his crew. >> I can finish the next order, but without >> We still have enough to do the gargan deal though, right?
[36:38] >> Ah, the gargan deal was the mechanized scorpion suit. We never get to see that armor in this movie, but Spider-Man brand new day will finally show us that exact suit that Phineas Mason and Adrian Toomes were tinkering together all the
[36:50] way back in this movie. I honestly never caught this line until rewatching the the news footage of the rescue, there's a flash of panic on his face, which we later learn is because his daughter Liz was there. And there's another clue in
[37:03] the edit because we cut straight from this to his wife hugging Liz. In the Midtown news report behind Jason Ianello is a screen showing the word vision, a high school that Miles Morales goes to. And based off of Donald Glover's lines
[37:15] that academy is in the Brooklyn of the MCU. Peter retrieves web fluid hidden detail. Notice the scratch marks on the wall above and beside the locker from the past times that Peter would have lifted this. Karen shows Peter his baby
[37:29] monitor protocol recordings. >> It is all right, Thor, son of Odin. >> Notice how Peter's heart rate jumps from 84 to 93 from his shame over this. Aaron Davis's rap sheet on the heads-up display lists his aliases as the Prowler
[37:42] and Brian Pinchelli, a nod to Ultimate Spider-Man creators Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, the creators of the Miles Morales character. And I think the word pinch was thrown in as a thieving pun. Aaron Davis's license plate reads
[37:56] UCSM 01 for Ultimate Comic Spider-Man number one, the debut of Miles Morales, here. >> I don't want those weapons in this >> Also, in a deleted scene. >> Yeah, sorry Miles. I'm not I'm not going
[38:10] to make it. Yeah, I'm just stuck. >> On the ferry, we meet Mac Gargan, Michael Mando, who has a scorpion neck tattoo for his identity as the Spidey post-credit scene with Toomes in prison, and we will finally see him suit up as a
[38:23] proper Scorpion in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The car parked behind him is tagged which could be a nod to Spider-Man number 20, when Spider-Man fights the Scorpion. Further back on the ferry are cars with license plates of SM10563,
[38:37] which is a nod to Spider-Man issue five released in 1963, which is Spider-Man's first run-in with Doctor Doom. Something that we could see in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. And right next to it is a long-lost Howard the Duck Easter egg
[38:49] that no one found until 2019, when Jon Watts was saying, "I hid this Easter egg it." New Rockstars took the challenge, we found it here, HTD003, the 2015 Howard the Duck 003 with a variant cover that shows him on this
[39:03] tells him that the other guy was way better with that thing, and that he's honestly shocked. Haha, saw what you did there. Peter uses the same web jump and roll move that Captain America used on him in Civil War. Queens is following in
[39:17] Brooklyn's footsteps, following his gut, not his head, which might be what pisses Chitauri tech ends up severing the ferry in half. understand. >> The self-made villain warning the
[39:29] self-made hero about toys versus tech, a lesson that will get reversed in this hold the ferry together with his webs, making this Christ pose, you can see the background, the site of his pivotal fight at the end of Spider-Man: No Way
[39:43] Home. Iron Man arrives to help repair it with separate thrusters. I love how each one slightly indents the metal of the ferry's hull. The Mark 47 armor appears, time, and he decides to take back the suit.
[39:55] >> If you're nothing without this suit, then you shouldn't have it. >> Yes, this is one useful lesson that Tony learned from Iron Man 3. So, now with no survived my trip to NYC shirt, which he'll wear again in Spider-Man: No Way
[40:08] appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In that Brooklyn pop-up set experience that apartment, shows that shirt among his clothes. So, at this point of the movie, focus on just his school life, and he asks Liz to Homecoming. And in
[40:23] incredible twist, we discover that Adrian Toomes is Liz's father. Great dramatic irony here as Toomes holds the knife, echoing the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man film with Norman Osborn carving the turkey. I just love Tom
[40:35] the Homecoming dance photos, and he's just like sweating bullets staring over on the ride to the dance where the stoplight's red glow casts Toomes in a >> Good Spider-Man. >> the switch to green, signaling the
[40:50] Vulture's heads-up display, which is part of his coming battle armor. It's out of his glove box after Liz leaves the car, and they just sit in front of a school. Flash mentions Brandzino to his date, maybe a nod to the Brandzino
[41:03] dinner scene in The Amazing Spider-Man. Peter takes Flash's car using his best >> I need your car and your phone. >> Uh sir, technic- technically this is my dad's car, sir, so I can't >> Peter will end up totally wrecking this
[41:15] about in the book that he writes in No Way Home. Happy loads the plane. >> We just got to load Tony's old Hulkbuster armor, prototype for Cap's new shield, and the Meging- the Meg- the
[41:28] >> So, the old Hulkbuster armor was the Mark 44 from Age of Ultron, but he says old, meaning that a new one is in the works. That's going to be the Mark 48 worn by Bruce Banner in Infinity War. Cap's new shield is the one that we
[41:41] the damaged one from Civil War. And Thor's belt would be Megingjord, Thor's belt of strength from Norse mythology and the Thor comics. There's a pretty school bus yard. This is where you can really see the crossbones punching
[41:55] really excited to see this come back in Brand New Day. But after escaping this, has not yet proven himself. Toomes uses a speech to stall Peter while his Vulture suit charges, the same move used by Tony, the self-made engineer, on his
[42:09] enemy Loki, who considered his tech toys in Avengers. Peter sensing the wings coming under him and flipping over it is a similar move used by Peter 2, Tobey Maguire's Peter in the 2002 Spider-Man, the finishing move using Norman Osborn's
[42:22] Peter's not fully ready to defeat the villain and he ends up getting trapped under rubble. But then in the water pool, he sees the reflection of the man without the suit. This half-mask visual was used in early Spider-Man comics to
[42:34] see this visual again in J. Jonah Jameson's reports once Peter is revealed rises from the rubble reflecting the great visual from The Amazing Spider-Man 33. He now fights the villain as the self-made hero, not spoiled by
[42:48] overpowered Stark tech in the DIY hoodie inspired by the Ben Reilly suits. The transformation with the cloaking panels of the Stark cargo plane reflecting his new color scheme as he crawls under its underside. I love this detail. Tony
[43:02] Harley Keener in Iron Man 3 who suggested it should be invisible. Also, flying helicarriers. Among the cargo inside the plane is Tony's old Mark 42 Tony kept another model around for
[43:16] exploded around Aldrich Killian. Spider-Man and Vulture's battle on the plane brings it crashing down in the beach near Coney Island. Happy Hogan Avengers Tower. Toomes jams his wings into the fuselage, damage that Peter
[43:29] notices. In Captain America: Civil War, Peter witnessed what happens when a guy gets stuck in a broken flying suit. And Peter's Avengers training taught him the value of technology. And as a self-made hero, he proves himself more worthy over
[43:41] love that that's how he defeats Adrian Toomes ultimately. It's not strength or ingenuity. It's the limited experience he's had with Tony Stark and the other of empathy, wanting to save his girlfriend's dad. Peter oversees the
[43:56] the Cyclone roller coaster which actually came up in a memory shared America: The First Avenger. Remember when I made you ride the Cyclone at Yeah, and I threw up. >> In the aftermath, MJ is named the new
[44:09] captain of the academic decathlon team since Liz and her mom are moving to bathroom and excuses himself, but MJ pretends to be suspicious. We'll later learn in Far From Home that she has been paying attention to all of Peter's weird
[44:22] he is Spider-Man. We get this hilarious moment between Peter and Happy in the side eyeing Peter throughout the movie is totally weirded out by this adult man school bathroom. After this, Happy brings Peter to Avengers Campus in
[44:36] get destroyed in Avengers Endgame. Peter wears the same jokey electron shirt that Pepper wore in Iron Man 3, though just misses Pepper Potts in this scene. Tony which Peter will later wear in Infinity War. It's based on the armor Tony gives
[44:50] press conference that was about to happen on the other side of that door. Hilarious anecdote, Gwyneth Paltrow would later admit that she forgot she Homecoming. But to be fair, they were probably filming a lot of these Marvel
[45:03] scenes at the same time while they were also shooting Infinity War. And in her bunch of green screens and she had no Peter, having learned his lesson as a self-made hero, turns Tony Stark down
[45:15] until one is ready for the responsibility of it. Aunt May will Home, but Peter keeps his identity secret for now. There is this shot of Peter in the scene watching the jet take off with the Avengers A framed behind
[45:29] as a member of the Avengers. And many of us have over the years seen it also as a lower end of that A. We have yet to see Peter interact with the Fantastic Four number one in 1962 did introduce
[45:43] Fantastic Four also on the cover. Perhaps with all the other iconic covers in Brand New Day, we could get a recreation of this one. So instead, Tony returns the Stark Spider suit to Peter, though this time in a paper bag instead
[45:56] of a fancy case. And Aunt May learns Peter's secret. What the which a line From Home when Peter has this happen in front of the whole world. Toomes meeting Mac Gargan in prison. Mac says that he wants to put Spider-Man's
[46:10] There's a shot in Brand New Day of the Spider-Man mask spinning around in a to tell him who Spider-Man is, but Toomes denies knowing his identity, his life. And thanks to the events of No Way Home, Sony will ultimately decide to
[46:24] suck Toomes out of this universe into the Morbius universe, never to be seen >> What I've got here has to do with Spider-Man, I think. I'm still figuring this place out, but I think a bunch of guys like us should
[46:37] think a bunch of guys like us should team up. patience. >> Sometimes patience is the key to little. >> A lesson we all have to keep in mind as
