one is of an artist in the bookish space. It is just one after another the bookish space. So, let's delve into the situation. And before we get send hate to any parties involved. So, this was originally posted to threads on
July 3rd and it reads, "And another AI scammer. Nice. Take care out there, guys, for real." And so it highlights a user called Josie Boyer Art who highlights themselves as an illustrator in a visual storyteller fantasy romance
and character art with open commissions and it reads, "Do not harass or insult this person, just block them. This is made to inform about this AI problem we're living in now and alert authors to take care." On her speed paints, you can
see zero sense. The guidelines don't guide and they're just random traces to look like something useful. the way to color. She knows exactly where the lights and ambient colors are. Also, if you go down on her Instagram account,
you can see how she made AI tracing on the most pop style pieces. We're on the sketch piece. As you can see, there are a bunch of guidelines. There are some rough blocking for the characters. We also have some guideline for the larger
background. And there are some arbitrary circle here. There's a circle here. Maybe there's some stuff in the background as to why there are the circles. I just want to add that, you
like that. Every artist does draw differently. So, some artists will apply guidelines that to some person or one person might look very arbitrary, but to the artist that makes sense. Next up, we have the coloring method. Now, this one
does get a little bit more interesting because we have the woman who is much more fully colored in and the guy there's no flat color for the face, but instead we have some shadows, some highlights applied to the face with no
unfortunate timing in the screenshot where maybe the flat color was toggled off, so all we see is the shading. But on this frame, all we can see are the shadows and the highlights with no flat colors. another layer where we can see
the woman is completely shaded in and rendered, but nothing else is. Nothing like to render this way. Well, they'll render peace meal like they'll render one character all of their hair first and then the all of the face next and
They they just go like one after another. It's not the most common way to render. A lot of artists typically will build up. So you will start with like shading and then you put all the you know what I mean? There are some artists
that do render like this though. So this on its own isn't really the red flag. But then we see the pop style art pieces and this is where it gets to me a little bit more suspect because again like we've said many many times when it comes
to spotting and identifying whether this person used generative AI or whether they just have you know an art style that AI likes to steal from. you look at a lot of things, you know, and the style being similar is just one. But secondly,
like having a really massive shift in art style that only happen in a small window can be another. And this really pop style artwork you see a lot with generative AI stuff. So let's delve a little bit into this artist's work.
Recently, this artist has been posting these like fully rendered realistic these like fully rendered realistic looking hot 2D book men with really dark ambient lighting and almost always men with some some women drawn here and
there, you know. But then if you scroll a little further down, we have a couple pieces of realism. And then boom, we have this art style, this much more like retro poppy type art with heavy grain applied over it, which has also been
trending with dedi back during this time window, but that is, you know, geni steals from real people. So there there are many real artists who do draw like this. But then you go further down and then we have this like DC pop art style.
And then we go even further down and that's where we get the like vapor wave retro art all of a sudden. And then we get back into the really poppy portraits. And then here we have the skull pieces. So artists are allowed to
many artists have different art styles they like to flip between depending on Maybe today you're feeling like drawing chibiies. tomorrow you want to draw something more dark and more sinister. That's completely fair, completely
valid. You don't often see such rapid shifts back and forth between like seven different art styles within the same artist because typically when an artist like establishes themselves in an art style fully fleshed out and they've like
really locked this down as their art style when they do transition from it, it can be a little bit more gradual. You don't often see like 1 2 3 4. I'm not most common. But, you know, when it comes to all of these, again, just it
feels AI, it feels suspicious. That in itself isn't really enough, especially because this person actually can draw. This person has traditional pieces where they've done realism. Like, this person has artistic talent and can draw. But
there are cases where there are people who can draw and are very talented, but for some reason still resorts to generative AI for one reason or another. Sometimes it's because there is like a
high demand for output and so they use generative AI to cut corners. Sometimes for sad reasons it's because some people feel like their art isn't enough. So they use generative AI instead to like fill the gaps because they think that's
a couple pieces. We have this piece from 2023. It is a motel lit up with neon lights. There's a woman's shadow in the window. The perspective for the motel is all warping off in the front. There is like a zoom in here where you can see
this person can draw realism, but we've got all this warping happening with the front of the motel and here and with the windows and the door. This one is just a bit interesting because we have a woman riding a surfboard except she has toes
on one foot and just none on the other. Could be artistic choice as to why there's none on the other foot, but the angle you would still see it especially because in like other pieces it's drawn. Also, I feel very weird like pointing
the toes out, but like it just is, you know, part of the pieces we're talking about. We have this pop art piece with the vapor wave style for the alligator. And the teeth aren't even. There's there's like a whole bunch of teeth all
stuck together on the right side of the alligator's mouth. And the left side of the alligator's mouth has perfectly even normal looking teeth, which is a bit interesting. Next up, we have these women. And the amount of fingers are
just not like adding up at all. She's got three fingers on this hand. You could potentially argue that due to the perspective you would only see three fingers possibly, you know, maybe like this. But this hand has four fingers and
so does this hand. Both of these hands have four fingers except this girl has five fingers on this hand and she has five fingers on this hand. Like four and like you can sometimes argue with chibi art it's an artistic choice to only draw
four fingers. Some artists do choose that because it can get muddy with five, throughout the entire art piece and that just isn't happening here. Like this piece, I'm also very suspicious of it because of the fact that we have some
anatomy issues happening. Again, maybe it's artistic choice, but the lower arm has two bones and it's just not drawn consistently between the two characters, especially the elbow. On our female character, only on the left arm, we have
an elbow bone for some reason, which doesn't exist because it's just the protrusion from your ulna. And then the little protrusion on the side is from your humorris that sticks out. There is no elbow bone or elbow cap like you have
with your knee where you have a kneecap. It could possibly be that this person when it comes to drawing a skeletal structure, which can be possible and you just assume. But then if you did assume there's an elbow cap, like a kneecap,
characters because you just assume that's how it works. They didn't. They also didn't draw the lower leg bones. Like there's two for your lower leg and they didn't draw two. That again could be artistic choice, but I mean if they
arm bones for your lower arm, I mean, nitpicky. The other point is the two wheels. These wheels all look real off. shredded cheese that you're like slowly peeling. The kid skateboard don't match
the mom's skateboard. And then the mom has one really wrinkly pant leg for some pointing that out is because we have a different version where the kid is with the dad this time. And then now the wheels are drawn differently. The wheels
all match, but then the kid also has the split for I guess the two leg bones on it's the same character just drawn slightly differently. And that is something you would see with AI generated imagery. Not to mention again
the dad's anatomy is once again looking a little off. But who am I to be up here that is also drawn to the other side. But again going into the artist style right they go from drawing this type of pop art stuff March 22nd by the
way. So this happened this year and then they do a neckbreaking pivot in one month into anime semi-realism bookish art. This is a month and a half later. Boom. And again, I'm just saying this artist does have a background. They have
traditional realism and then doing this like bookish, semi-realistic, hot, you know, hunky male art, it's a different vibe. And it typically takes a while to like get your reigns, you know, for switching into this type of art style.
So being able to do such a neck-breaking pivot in a month and a half is not pivot in a month and a half is not necessarily impossible, but it is very very very very very unlikely to happen in such a short
assistance in my opinion. Like this is one literally 2 months later. So getting into the current artwork again that this person is doing where again they had this really rapid you know neckbreaking swap in art style in only one month.
They have pieces like this where you know there is like a juxosition within like the high high level of rendering that we see with the face the skin etc. And then there's other elements like the lantern that is not rendered to such a
another disclaimer. There can be again reasons as to why it's done. Sometimes people are like okay for background stuff I'm just going to like chill and because people are mainly looking at the main character anyways. And that also is
like a technique that is done so that you know you draw more of the focus to to be the face of the character. But that's also something that we've seen a lot on this channel with other artists that have painted over generative AI to
pass off as their own where you would see for like the character for instance would allegedly be a paintover of a AI generated image which is why the stuff like that is so clean and so high. But for other additional elements that
gets added in, if it isn't generated by the AI program, then the person would shows that person's actual art skill, whereas the generative part has a lot generated with AI. So looking at the artist page, they don't have that many
speed paints actually of them doing this type of digital work. They have kind of the sketch and they transition it into the final product, but we only have a couple story pieces that we can see of them drawing the art pieces. So, it's
kind of hard to look at the full process, which is again where you kind of see, okay, is this their actual art skill? Did they make it themselves or is this something that they're painting over a Gen AI image and passing it off
as their own? So, here we can see a little bit of their coloring process. and we can see some more of the sketch see a little bit of the painting process that they have where because of the
color selecting off of. They're selecting something, but because there and stuff like that about this user allegedly using AI, this was a comment things like, "Oh, we noticed her a couple weeks ago, this artist, and
do tutorials on how to spot AI," which was ironic. From what I can pinpoint, she traces, does almost all the rendering, but will have parts of the AI image underneath and erase to expose some of those parts. So, here this is
it with an open mind, right? Cuz I'm hoping it's legit where they show their Procreate, which we already know Procreate can have a hidden layer in the speed paints and have it not come up. So this artist is filming their tablet, so
you know, it's avoiding the whole hidden layer situation. But they're showing total strokes 24,000, estimated time 12 hours, total file size big, but we can see the layers here. And the layers are kind of interesting because everything
is flattened. So all of the compass is all on one layer. All of the clothes all on one layer. It's not like the shading and everything is separated. Now again, I will add an extra two cents when it comes to Procreate. Your layers are
capped by your memory of your tablet and whatever device you're working on. So, if your device has poo poo memory, well, you can't open more than a certain amount of layers depending on how big your canvas is. I had that issue with my
old tablet. So, that on its own isn't necessarily the most damning thing. I just wanted to add that because that can be an explanation for why all the layers are flattened like this. Also, some artists just like to draw other layers
flattened. So, this person is turning layers on and off. I'm just very intrigued. The base color for the skin is orange. And in color theory, when everything is drawn out, whatever, it does make sense. I feel like on first
for the base color, but you know, I differently. They toggle on a second layer, and it's all the face shading. layer, and then another layer for all of
the chest shading. More a layer for the chest hair, and then the layer with all of the clothes on it. a layer for more of the face shading and then all the they zoom into the canvas which like unfortunately in this day and age
unfortunately in this day and age turning on layers is not always going to disprove whether AI tracing has happened because we know this person can draw. We've already taken a look at it, right? This person clearly can draw. Being able
over anything, you know? So, unfortunately, that's just how it is in here though, which is really interesting. 26 layers, DPI 300. For a piece like this, most artists use way more than 26 layers, but again, everyone
interesting is like maybe they're doing it on purpose just to be able to show the canvas more closely. We can't see actually all the layers. We can see some Some people have been caught tracing generative AI because people noticed
2, three, whatever. They start at like AI images. So, they show another art piece. I think it's really interesting and the arms of which is a bunch of circles. Hey, everyone draws
differently. I just think that's funny. Then we have the refined line art, the shading. I think it's just I don't know, maybe I'm a little cynical. I could be. people when they come to show their screen or whatever, they try super hard
to not get their layers in it. We're turning on layers and we can't see the layers. They're showing us only the left half of the tablet. I just find that very funny. Maybe they're doing it unintentionally, but almost every single
later been revealed to trace some AI generated imagery has had the worst videos ever to clear up their allegations. Somebody says she switches styles must be AI. No, it's severe ADHD. She's showing some of her artwork. These
are all realism though. And she also does like wall stuff too, like resin me, the speed paint is a teeny bit suspect for the reason that actually the suspect for the reason that actually the original callout person had stated where
I've talked about this previously in other videos, they're drawing with all the environmental lighting already in for a semi-realism piece, which is
first sketch, etc., they get it right on the first go. Some people can do that. they have the rim lighting added in. They're doing a lot of the facial lighting whatever for the face and half the neck. You know, we get all of this
face and they don't have to fix it. They don't have to change it. They will apply a blue overlay layer that they later toggle off. The hair gets drawn in. The is one thing I'm talking about right here. There is an ambient orange glow by
because this person is actually smoking. in yet. But we already drew the ambient light for the cigarette. Now the orange ambient light right by that finger make sense because a cigarette is
lit and it's burning an orange flame. You can be the absolute artist goat and already know exactly where all the ambient lighting belongs. But again, for like objects that aren't even drawn in yet, alongside again like I'm pointing
out in previous older drawings that I've showed you, there are elements that make me suspect Gen AI was used in the process. By the way, we didn't even see the belt get drawn in. Maybe it's because it's sped up so much, but the
belt. Maybe it's the the time lapse is really sped up. I don't know. And then It's just pasted it in, I guess. Just interesting. And the way this person draws hair, and again, maybe I'm being a little nitpicky here. It has me feeling
like when I used to draw hair, this is basically when you draw hair, but you're comfortable lighting hair. look at the side of the hair and then look at like This is just like a little thing, but something that I noticed that I used to
hair and you're not like fully comfortable with drawing hair, you tend hair cuz you kind of just don't know what to do there. This is no shade, no tea. And some art styles do just like work like this. So, you know, just just
drawing with my mouse. This looks absolutely important. But you'll like draw strokes and just completely ignore the middle because it's like, well, I gonna ignore it. Like you can see the way they're drawing kind of like the
curls of the hair here where they don't really draw where all the curls meet in the middle. Now again, that's totally fine if that's your art styles. That is some people's art styles, but that's not what we see in the final product of a
putting out because, you know, this is the type of artwork this person is you would sketch for a piece like this is you would sketch like the source of all the curls, etc., you know, and this is what the sketch looks like for this
guy. So, I'm just seeing some discrepancies in like a sketch like this was put out. Again, here's just another example of how this person draws hair. nitpicky, right? But I'm pointing it out because it's another inconsistency that
I see with the way this person draws art that shows the level they're sketching at doesn't seem to match the final output. And again, this person clearly traditional work, but this is a very different style to work in than like
full-on realism. Like here's a better example of what I mean where none of the it's kind of like a I don't I don't want to go here. But enough about that. There was actually another call out about this posted by an account called Booker
Scammer referral for this artist tagging AI and AI tracing. And the red flags are from vague forms to directly perfect line art. See below. So here we can see we have the line work in the sketch. Here's the character that I just showed
you. Some of the older art pieces where the style changes a lot. Another change in style. And a commenter says, "They're not one for one because I suppose they please, it's so obvious." And here, "This is the art piece that the artist
in question drew and an AI generated image on Pinterest in the exact same That's kind of crazy. And another user writes, "It's sad that she's using the excuse that she has ADHD and changes her style a lot. Hey, I got ADHD, too. We
all change our styles. That's not an ADHD thing. We learn new stuff all the just be an artist. She's just got to stop tracing AI. She clearly doesn't need to. A tiny bit more effort will take her a long way. Disappointing at
the very least because there is talent using ADHD as an excuse though. Oof. So thoughts at the end of the day? Me personally, my two cents, and again, this is my opinion, I think this person can draw. They clearly have art
experience. They clearly are talented. But I do think in the recent pieces and some of the older ones that I showed you, there was allegedly in my opinion some potential AI usage used in assisting the completion of the work.
