## Summary

This video provides an in-depth review of Robinhood in 2026, based on nearly a decade of coverage. The creator highlights the platform's evolution from a simple beginner app to a multi-asset, multi-account investing hub, while also discussing the risks and considerations for potential users.

### Key Points

- **Robinhood's Evolution** [00:02] — Robinhood has transformed from a simple, commission-free app for beginners into an all-in-one investing platform with advanced tools like options, futures, crypto, margin, and prediction markets.
- **Robinhood Legend** [01:35] — Robinhood Legend is a browser-based desktop platform designed for advanced traders, featuring custom layouts, multiple watchlists, 90+ technical indicators, and advanced options data.
- **Expanded Account Types** [02:37] — Robinhood now offers joint accounts, traditional and Roth IRAs, custodial UTMA accounts, and Robinhood Strategies (managed portfolios with a 0.25% annual fee).
- **IRA Contribution Match** [02:51] — Robinhood offers a 1% match on self-directed IRA contributions for non-Gold members and a 3% match for Gold subscribers, making it a popular choice for retirement investors.
- **Speculation vs. Investing** [04:10] — The platform makes speculation as easy as investing, with access to short-dated options, margin, and prediction markets, which can lead to substantial losses for unprepared users.
- **Robinhood Gold** [05:29] — Gold costs $5/month or $50/year and includes benefits like a competitive APY on uninvested cash, higher instant deposit limits, and the 3% IRA match. It also offers $1,000 of interest-free margin, but this is not free money.
- **User Behavior Matters** [06:46] — The platform's value depends on how it's used. A diversified ETF investor will have a positive experience, while a speculator jumping between trending stocks and options will likely have a different one.
- **Pros and Cons** [07:24] — Pros: ease of use, scalability, product variety, and IRA match. Cons: temptation to overtrade, speculative products alongside long-term investing, Gold complexity, and reputational baggage.

### Conclusion

Robinhood is a powerful tool that can be used productively or destructively. It's best suited for investors who understand their goals and can avoid the temptation of speculative products.

## Transcript

the investing app I started covering nearly 10 years ago, but more features do not automatically make it better. If you're considering using Robin Hood in 2026, there are three things that you absolutely need to know about before
signing up. So, after discussing Robin Hood for close to a decade here on investingsimple.com, here are my honest thoughts. And make sure you drop a like and subscribe for more investing content. The first thing
just a beginners's investing app anymore. When I first started covering Robin Hood, the appeal was pretty straightforward. You could download an commission-free with a user experience that even complete beginners were
comfortable with. The platform was intentionally simple and that made Robin those who were intimidated by traditional brokerage accounts. And to be clear, Robin Hood is still easy to use. In fact, I think simplicity is
The difference is that Robin Hood has spent the last several years layering more sophisticated products and tools on top of that simple interface. Depending on eligibility and availability, Robin Hood now supports stock options, index
options, futures, cryptocurrency, margin investing, and prediction markets. And has really turned them into an all-in-one investing hub that combines simplicity with more sophisticated trading tools. So, yes, you can still
use Robin Hood to easily invest in stocks and ETFs, but you can also dive into their advanced trading tools and features, including 24hour stock trading on hundreds of stocks and ETFs available during the week. One of the clearest
examples of this transformation is Robin Hood Legend, their browser-based desktop traditional Robin Hood app is designed more around convenience. You open the app, check your portfolio, maybe place a trade, and then move on with your day.
Robin Hood Legend is designed for someone who wants significantly more information on screen at one time. You can create custom layouts, monitor multiple watch lists, compare charts, follow positions, and trade directly
from the charts. The platform includes more than 90 technical indicators, drawing tools, custom time intervals, and advanced options data. So, in a nutshell, Robin Hood is now trying to serve two very different types of
customers. It still wants the beginner who's buying their first stock or ETF, but it also wants to cater to advanced traders who have four charts open and know what implied volatility means. And I think Robin Hood deserves a lot of
credit for building in these advanced tools without making the basic version of their app feel like an airplane cockpit. Now, in addition to new trading tools, Robin Hood has also expanded the account types available through their
individual taxable brokerage account, but Robin Hood now offers joint accounts in addition to retirement accounts like traditional and Roth IAS. And this part is massive. Robin Hood currently offers a contribution match on eligible
contributions towards self-directed IAS. Non-gold members can receive a 1% match, meanwhile, gold subscribers can receive a 3% match. Contribution limits and normal IRA rules still apply and you should of course look into the full
details here on your own, but this has made Robin Hood a very popular destination for retirement investors. In addition, Robin Hood now offers custodial UTMA accounts that allow an adult to invest on behalf of a child.
And for people who don't want to select and manage their own investments, there is now Robin Hood Strategies, which creates and manages a portfolio based on your goals. There's an annual management fee of 0.25 25% plus additional perks
for gold members. Simply put, this means that Robin Hood isn't just a place for you to trade stocks and ETFs on your own anymore. It has evolved into a multi-asset, multi-account, and multistrategy investing platform
covering almost all the bases when it comes to your money. Outside of the investing world, you're also going to find a 3% cashback rewards credit card, a high yield cash program, Robin Hood wallet for DeFi, and more. But that
leads us to the second important thing you need to know before signing up with Robin Hood today. More features don't necessarily mean better investing. Robin Hood makes long-term investing incredibly easy, but it also makes
speculation just as easy. Inside the same broader investing platform, you can invest in diversified retirement portfolios, trade shortdated options, borrow money on margin, and purchase prediction market contracts. These are
not even remotely the same financial activity. Now, yes, options, futures, crypto, and margin can be legitimate financial tools when you understand how to use them and the risks involved, but they can also generate substantial
losses quickly. Then there are prediction markets, contracts based on the outcome of future events. And those events could involve economics, entertainment, or other real world outcomes. For me personally, I do not
view buying a contract on the outcome of a sporting event as investing in the traditional sense. The bottom line here is this. Just because Robin Hood gives you access to something does not mean that you are prepared to use it. But to
be honest here guys, prediction markets, cryptocurrencies, shortdated options, and more are showing up on nearly every investing app available today. So this isn't really a Robin Hood problem. It's more of a systemic change in the retail
investing landscape. So, if you're looking to focus 100% on investing and on some horse blinders for certain before we get into the third thing you need to know, I want to quickly talk
about Robin Hood Gold, as this has come up quite a bit. A number of Robin Hood's best benefits are connected to Robin Hood Gold, which currently costs $5 a month or $50 per year. Benefits include a competitive APY on uninvested
brokerage cash, higher instant deposit limits, access to premium insights, and more. And of course, gold members will receive that 3% IRA contribution match instead of just the base 1%. Another benefit here is the first $1,000 of
eligible margin borrowing without interest. But this is important, guys. That does not make margin free money. Margin means that you are borrowing money to invest. And yes, it can magnify your gains, but it can also magnify your
losses. You are still responsible for paying the loan even if the investment that you buy declines in value. And Robin Hood can even sell investments in your account if you fail to meet margin requirements. My opinion on gold is that
it can easily be worth $5 a month for the right person. And you don't have to use margin investing. You can easily turn it off in the account settings. But you should run the numbers here based on the features that you actually plan to
use. And yes, having to pay a subscription to unlock the best features is a downside for some, but it's the world that we live in today. The third thing you need to know is whether or not Robin Hood is a great platform largely
comes down to how you use it. Imagine two people downloading the same investing app. The first person automatically invests in a portfolio of diversified ETFs. That person is probably going to have a very positive
experience with Robin Hood. The second person constantly jumps between trending stocks, weekly options, crypto, futures, prediction markets, and margin going to have a very different experience with the Robin Hood app. The
technology is the same. The behavior is different. At the end of the day, Robin Hood is a tool and tools can be used productively or destructively. And the same thing is true for pretty much any investing platform today. So guys, what
are the pros? The first major advantage here is the ease of use. Robin Hood is investing platforms that I have ever used. The second advantage is that the platform can grow with you. You might
get started by buying fractional shares of a stock or ETF and eventually get into retirement accounts or the Robin Hood Legend desktop platform. The third advantage is the number of financial products available in one ecosystem.
We're talking stocks, ETFs, retirement accounts, managed portfolios, and more, making them a financial super app. And finally, I think the IRA match is one of the most compelling benefits here for long-term investors. As far as the cons
go, the first disadvantage is the temptation to overtrade. The platform itself is very good at making trading feel simple, even when the investment itself might not be. The second con is that you have speculative products
placed alongside long-term investing products. So, yes, maybe you get started with the S&P 500 ETF, but eventually stumble into prediction markets. This especially beginner investors, to
separate investing from high-risk activity. The third con is that Robin Hood Gold adds an additional layer of complexity. Some of the best perks, like the highest match on the IRA contributions and the competitive APY on
uninvested cash will require it. The fourth con is that Robin Hood still does have some reputational baggage from the past. Robin Hood has experienced some over the last decade, particularly
during times of extreme market activity. Some investors view Robin Hood primarily based on the platform they are today and others feel that history still matters to them and both opinions are valid. So guys, if you want to learn more about
