## Summary

In this video, Hooie's Garage documents the teardown of his 1955 Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing after the engine failed just 2,000 miles into ownership. At DC Motorworks, he reviews a $26,000 parts bill, inspects a smoked cam and scored piston, and explores the shop's manual-swap projects. The video ends with Tyler Hoover bidding $1 million to take the project off his hands.

### Key Points

- **Dream car engine failure** [00:01] — The 1955 Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing suffered engine failure after only 2,000 miles of driving, leading to a major rebuild at DC Motorworks.
- **Sticker shock on pistons** [00:43] — Pistons cost $1,000 each, totaling $6,060 for all six; the owner calls the bill 'unbelievable.'
- **Sponsor: BG44K** [01:11] — BG Products sponsors the video; BG44K fuel system cleaner is promoted as a preventive measure, with a giveaway of a piece of the broken Gullwing.
- **DC Motorworks tour** [02:19] — The shop specializes in Mercedes, manual swaps, and heavy work on Lamborghinis; rows of beautiful Mercedes fill the facility.
- **How the engine died** [04:12] — The owner lost oil pressure while showing off on the highway, coasted to an exit, and idled the car to keep his six-year-old safe.
- **Smoked sport cam** [08:33] — A brand-new sport cam with only 300 miles was 'properly smoked,' with wear you can catch a fingernail on.
- **Piston number three** [10:38] — The offensive piston was removed; 'Uncle Rodney' was knocking, but the bearing didn't spin.
- **Crank survives** [13:21] — The crankshaft has a worn bearing but not a spun bearing, so it should clean up and be reusable.
- **Head gasket price madness** [15:49] — Diablo head gaskets cost $500, while Mercedes (Mercy) head gaskets cost $6,500 each — a 13x premium for a quarter-inch oil galley change.
- **The parts list** [18:44] — Engine gasket set $3,500, timing chains $1,100, piston rings $3,100, main bearings $1,500, rod bearings $416, oil pump $3,500, cam $1,650.
- **Total parts bill** [21:13] — Engine parts total $26,000 including tax, before labor and machining.
- **Manual swap magic** [30:07] — The owner test-drives a manual-swapped C63 and notes that if it were factory, these cars would be million-dollar machines.
- **Tyler Hoover's bid** [33:34] — Tyler Hoover bids $1 million to fix the Gullwing as-is; the owner accepts, saying he'd 'take that and run.'

### Conclusion

The video is a candid look at the brutal economics of owning a rare classic: a $26,000 parts bill, a smoked cam, and a long rebuild ahead — but the crank survived and the dream lives on.

automo channel in all of YouTube. And this is or was my dream car, a 1955 out in [music] the States. It had been sitting for a very, very long time. And unfortunately, after about 2,000 mi of
driving it, the engine went. [music] So, I am facing another massive, massive of great work to this thing as far as [music] the brakes, the fuel system, and all that stuff, uh now the engine has
transmission was also a huge [music] leak. So now it is here at DC Motorworks their manual swaps, but also fixing Ed Bullions, Lamborghinis, and things. So I know that they're good for heavy work, especially on Mercedes. But I just got
>> Pistons themselves. Oh, that's a good one. Yeah. $1,000 a piece. $6,60 >> That's That's where it's really really hurting, unfortunately. It's great that a lot of it's getable, but the bill Oh my god. It is It is uh unbelievable. So,
let's go back to about an hour ago when I walked into this place and uh was facing all this. I'm going to give one of you a piece of my broken Gwing prevent this from happening to your engine by using BG Products, the sponsor
of today's video. BG44K is the number one fuel system cleaner used by automotive professionals. Available at thousands of shops all over the country. fuel system, like the injectors, but it also cleans the piston tops and the
your fuel system can cause all sorts of problems like misfires, stumbles, hesitation, and power loss. But just one can of 44K at each oil change can prevent all of this and clean out existing deposits for restored engine

And it's really easy to find a shop near you just by going to bgfindershop.com/hovies. And after using BG services, take a to get a can of 44K at your next service. Then you tag me at Hooies
Garage and [music] BG Products on Instagram or X your photo and we'll choose one of you in the next 30 days as a piece of my ultimate dream car. Well, broken pieces. So, let's head back to the shop and Cameron.
The 760 definitely does not belong here because it is rows and rows of beautiful Mercedes at DC Motorworks, which we have been here before where I picked up the Mercedes 6.9 about 6 months ago. But now we get to see all the carnage. So, let's
see. Cameron should be in his spot. Oh, look. There's Bruno. Hi, Bruno. >> Yes. >> And there's the old shop dog right here. you, sir. >> So,
>> Yes, it's in pieces. >> You said it was bad. >> You said it was bad. >> Yeah, there were some surprises. >> Okay. Good turnover car since the last time I was here, except that 6.9, I
>> Yeah, that one's been a long-term project. Full interior restoration and wood restoration and got a cylinder head job on a straight six over there. >> Yeah. Just hanging out. And then your manual swaps.
right? >> It really is. It's taken off quite >> That's awesome. So, where are these transmissions come from? >> So, this is actually a new one from Mercedes.
>> So, yeah, this is a fresh one. There's only a finite number of these left. CL63. >> Yeah. So, this is the uh the first one. So, this is a development car for the uh cars that never had a floor shifter. So,
>> I have to experience one of these. It's >> I got a couple you can try out. >> I I kind of glimpse of that paper. I imagine I'm not going to have any money for a while after this. So, >> we have layaway
trading or something like that. There you go. This is >> This is not how I saw it last, unfortunately. So, >> the 55 Gold Wing going down the road down the highway and I decided to show
off for someone. Uh, basically this tailgating me. >> Hey y'all, watch this. >> Watch this. Felt and it was gone. >> Gone is right. >> So, I did coast it to the edge of like
closest exit and everybody screamed at me, you're ruining your car, idling it But I had my six-year-old in the car. I wasn't going to just be on the side of the highway who knows waiting how long with Yeah. So, I did that
>> and I am curious. There's a lot of things like a brand new $5,000 sport cam that I'm curious how smoked it is cuz I lost oil pressure. And then I know like get. So if I destroyed the crankshaft, then I know I'm pretty screwed.
>> And uh anyway, it's it's all apart. So how was taking it out? How many hours was this? >> We uh we we hustled through this one. It to this point. >> So not too bad. I mean, it's
>> And the interior has to come out for the transmission because the only thing that actually the transmission to where it was just pouring out fluid and it had been gooped up. But >> wow. Okay. So, that comes out through
we had we had blankets and everything here and I lost your estimate. Yeah, we had blankets everywhere and everything because it's uh had to pull tilted, there's just not enough clearance with the big bell housing. So,
>> But then the transmission first and then the engine since it's unbolted or used the gantry to pull the engine out of it so that we had finite control cuz
leaned over so far as we tried to pick it up it was trying to settle itself in a funny way. So that was a little >> little bit of a thing. >> I guess we could do that M113 just >> we thought about staging it in there for
you go. the >> the LS swap equivalent. A lot of these did get swapped with weird engines, Chevys. There's I think it was a Hemi in got swapped where they're picking up the girls uh like a big blown Hemi in the
>> That would be really really dumb to take a numbers matching engine in a multi-million dollar car and do that. But especially now I can see I mean restoration on this thing at some point because
>> It's pretty cuz the engine looked like it was >> yeah everything looked really nice. I had to double check that it was your >> right? Yeah. But from the photos that you sent me, it doesn't look like the
dressed up at any point in our lives. Probably. >> No. No, not quite. Shall we? And the door. Uh, this is actually repainted again and got the color match perfect. So, also that was the thing where I
and I haven't actually seen it since they repainted it again. >> Yeah, they good. >> They nailed it. >> Okay. So, that's that's all the good news, but
>> that is important. >> Okay, so this is my shelf of doom right with >> all of its doom and gloom, you know, >> There's your seat. Yeah. >> And April for my birthday, she actually
and things. They are beautiful for my >> This is going to be my new office chair. >> Well, I need the chair, but then you swap back and forth cuz it is such a nice interior. Originally, it was a red
going to change it cuz it was just so nice. And >> silver red will be nice. The interior is so nice in this thing. There's no reason to spend that money. But uh so >> remember we got to differentiate our
>> Oh that's right. So and then when I hang out with you, you have your little then it it get Yeah. Exactly. So >> I got to slow down. >> You got to speed up. >> Yeah. So the uh interior was out and
then the valve cover was off. This is the injection pump that I just had. I nothing got in here to destroy it. I imagine this was like $10,000 to redo >> Oh my goodness. Those things are Pandora's box. So, I'm glad you got that
>> Yeah. Okay. And then my intake and my exhaust. And then >> Yeah. >> Here be my head. So, what's scary here? >> So, um you can see we'll keep that somewhere safe. We got to make sure that
>> There's your nice fresh cam. You know, got nice fresh bearings here. And then, um you don't >> Oh, so there's like 300 miles on the sport cam and that's >> that is properly smoked. Yeah, that
catches more than a fingernail. So, that's a little concerning. >> Well, but this one's this one's okay. >> Yes, it is a bit of a mystery as to >> Yes, it is a bit of a mystery as to where your uh your damage occurred.
>> That's weird. Okay. Is this one loose? No. Well, there you go. >> Yeah, this bad. This one's fixable. >> That's They've got some wear all across, >> so why >> that one's proper grumpy. Why would just
one I guess this one's still on there, but why would just one with 300 miles on it do that? >> So, who knows? Maybe you had a oil galley clogged or something. I mean, it's really hard to say. The the oil
that came out of there is uh was something to see for sure. >> And uh I mean Oh, this was fun. You've got uh something some remnants of its history there where there's some uh some imprints, we'll call it, on your
cylinder head. So, it looks like uh maybe some rocker arms left the chat at >> Oh, so it got tossed and then was just getting banged into the head down here, >> but that was that obviously >> wasn't a problem now. It's just
>> Yeah, that that's a that's history, you know. It's part of the character of the >> nothing wrong there. >> There's the valves there. I mean, looks
pretty uh pretty black and I guess like it was rich or something or kind of >> Yeah. Not too bad. >> The oil though, you see, is um >> and that's the thing. I had two oil changes in 2,000 mi, but it was drinking
oil like on that thousand mile rally. We had to top it off and that big tank probably of what just five quarts in that one tank twice on the rally. So, >> I I kind of knew this was common. That's the thing. But
>> So, here's a You got one piston out. Okay. So, why is this one piston out? >> This was the offensive one. This is uh Uncle Rodney knocking around. >> Yeah, he was making some noise. And yeah, it's um
is there? >> Yeah. You're down to the final layers fun stuff. >> I mean, I've done worse. I've seen worse, but that's pretty bad. It didn't spin. So, I'm glad to see that it didn't
>> Yeah. >> All right. >> You got all the good out of that one. >> And why why is there a ring here? too. When we were uh pulling this piston out, we heard a clink. And uh yeah,
you've got a uh broken compression ring here. There's the other half of it. H. Right. >> Would that have happened in the catastrophe or was that just something that existed?
existing. >> So, I did have one cylinder that the that. >> It happened to be number three. >> I I'll have to go back and look, but it might have been. And then that would
help some oil get in there as far as it uh consuming quite a bit of oil. So, >> Oh, really? Okay. >> Maybe not then. And there's some there's some marking in there, but it's not hateful. So, you
just pulled the one for now, huh? >> Yeah. So, we didn't want to make the >> I guess so. >> But the rest of them are nice and tight. some of the uh >> Sure.
>> Sure. >> do the old rotisserie thing here. outside. So, there is there's the numbers matching block as far as the uh and >> and
>> all the goodies. >> Pretty. Is it are they balance shafts on these or what do they call those? >> Just harmonic balancer, damper, >> Y. >> So, yeah, this one, you know, you just
test there. >> And, uh, when we got to number three, it >> there's the jiggle. >> And, uh, you can also see your discoloration here. So, that one looked pretty good. And you can see how dark
that one is. So, that got hot. This one got real hot, which of course makes sense. You can see how much friction was there. That one was real nice and hot. don't expect too much to be going on there. And uh the top side is where most
your wear was. It's not hateful. So >> actually compared to that smoked cam >> Much better. Yeah. >> So cuz the crank, if the crank was completely destroyed, like if it spun a bearing and then kept going, then I
>> thank goodness it was just a worn bearing and not a spun bearing. >> here's one of your mains. We pulled this one next to that cylinder. And you can see even this one's got >> a lot of wear on it, but again, not
spun. Thrust bearing looks all right. I mean, kind of normal amount of wear there. So, it seems the crank will be okay. I mean, this journal, the main >> It's just that rod journal that, you know, we'll see how it cleans up.
Nothing really catches too bad, >> so I'm hopeful. But there's more of your >> that stink sludge. >> Yeah. So why? Okay, it's the middle that
obviously got hot, oil starved or whatever. And then it's the middle here that got hot and oil starved, but then the oil doesn't feed up through doesn't usually, right? >> Hollow cam through the cam and Yeah, it
>> okay, >> when uh we pulled your oil pump, which >> yeah, >> it was proper goopy. It was just
social media. So, it was >> Yeah, it was uh it was thick and goopy. far as like all the sludge in the engine and did it or >> or one of the galleys for this area of
the motor would be kind of my my guess because you'd think, you know, usually the furthest point, >> but that wasn't the case. It's just in the middle. I mean, you got the hot spots and stuff, but again,
It's just an odd odd occurrence there. >> Do you think it was my fault? >> Do you think it was my fault? >> No. No. It's I mean 1955, you know. thought >> tired old motor.
>> You knew it was coming. I mean, some of the surprise like I wasn't prepared to >> Mhm. >> But the parts are getable. >> You sent me a picture of like Oh, the debris. Yeah.
So that's Can you do that like for a stolen package or something on your bomb? >> So that that came out of my pan. >> Looks like the Mercy has the same problem. There's no dry train in it.
>> Yeah, that one's been a long-term project. Uh got the wrong head gaskets >> they were Diablo head gaskets instead of Mercy head gaskets, which only changes an oil galley port. So like, you know, here you move it quarter inch that way.
Diablo and Mercy >> as far as a head gasket. And so I called swap these out real quick?" And uh he called me like an hour later. He's I can't do that. I'm like, "Why?" He says, "Well, a Diablo head gaskets 500 bucks,
>> but a Mercy head gasket, which again, they all they changed is that to there." >> Uhhuh. >> $6,500 each. >> Wow. Wow. >> So it got it got parked while the the
>> Wow. And uh we ended up with a custom solution. >> Yes. >> So that's the >> That's the bitserini. >> I have seen that movie before from Ed
making 20 grand off of me on a on a orange versilago. The fencio atlas. But >> It is that cute little thing. It wants to be a transmission when it grows up. >> Okay. Well, yeah. This thing was leaking so much. So like so so much and that
plastic centers repair. That was somebody just trying not >> Yeah. That looks like that old GM gray goop. Yeah. Bins doesn't have that. think the big gusher was out the back. So but it's so simple. It's like three
seals. You know, you got one here, one here. Radial seal. There ain't too much >> Okay. >> Which if not, we can make those without too much fuss. But >> I guess it's time though, huh?
>> Yes. So, you're talking about the parts list. So, time to see how much the seals I >> should I really brace myself here? the car. >> Okay.
>> All right. Maybe we should go to your office. I like sit down so I don't do concrete's kind of hard. Yeah. We don't want to do that. >> Bruno, you're going to have to be my emotional support animal with this. And
are you shopping? You >> Yeah. Oh, look at your four screen setup >> Command center. Yeah. >> Look at So, you're you're shopping for a which >> Yeah, we got 10 minutes left. 150 grand.
>> How many miles are on it? >> We got 40,000 miles. And that's >> Yeah, wholesale auctions. >> The Ferraris are just >> That That should be a $90,000 car in my head. That's a $9,000 car. A 360 is a
$50,000 car with those miles, but that is not the case anymore. >> Okay. I mean, >> ceramic brakes >> oneowner >> in the Ferrari world, 40,000 mi is like
140,000 mi. People don't People don't like the miles on, you know, >> mine has 70. What does that make mine? >> Yeah, [laughter] the million mile Ferrari, right? I had that 458 with almost 100,000 miles on it. Okay.
You're doing really good with the emotional sport cuz >> Hit me. >> So, this is just parts. >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. Well, Wizard would read
>> I I just, you know, I want you to Uh-huh. >> So, you know, we got a complete engine gasket set cuz you said it leaks like a civ. You know, $3,500 there >> for for seals for gaskets.
Mercedes. I had I had to go to a uh like 300 SL specialist for that. >> Wow. Oh, you're getting some nice puppy food here soon. Oh my goodness. All right. >> Timing chain tensioner, which is not a
tensioner. So, we don't have to replace that. But, uh $468. >> Timing chain guides, you know, while you're in there. That's the motto here. >> $1,100 worth of timing chains. >> Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
>> Piston rings. We know you need those. The full kit of piston rings, $3,100. You know, the um you know, we can just keep going. Main bearings, the the kit of those, you know, wouldn't be bad. $1,50 bucks for main bearings.
>> those weren't bad. Connecting rod bearings, $416 >> That's a full set. Okay, that's that's better. So So, but the like the rings and the pistons themselves. So So
>> pistons themselves. Oh, that's a good one. Man, $1,000 a piece. $6,060 >> for all six, you know. $1,000 a piece. >> Well, there's one that's obviously smokes, but >> do you do all six? I mean, I guess you
do cuz you're rebuilding it, but >> Yeah. I mean, what's the car worth, you know, probably close to the bucket? >> Yeah. For for I'm the world's poorest golding owner. So, >> this is an oil change on a Bugatti.
That's why I traded it for the Golding, thinking I have a better ownership experience. And look where that got me. So, >> Oil pump $3,500. It's the only one in existence. So, you said the oil pressure
dropped. So, it seems like a a good thing to do, right? >> Uhhuh. Uhhuh. Okay. >> How's Bruno treating you? >> He's he's uh he's teething obviously. He's What is he? 5 months, 6 months.
>> Yeah. Okay. >> He's a Yeah, he's a piranha. >> Anything else? Okay. And you got the cam on there if we can't save it, right? >> Yeah. So, uh yeah, that's that's that's another big one. $1,650 for the cam.
>> $1,200 for those >> cuz it was about 5,000 bucks and uh Yeah. Okay. So, that that's that's maybe a repeat based on how that one looks,
>> we'll try and save it, but you know. >> So, what's the total? Uh so in those parts for just the engine is 26,000 before tax. >> No actually sorry that includes tax. >> Thank okay that includes
>> just in just in parts. >> Wow. >> Hey we I think we did all right on your your clutch situation. I've got a clutch disc, but yours looks brand new so we don't have to mess with that.
>> Oh, so you can send it back. >> I don't know about that but it was 450 All right, >> cool. We'll just stick it in the trunk and just keep it for a rainy day. But if you needed a pressure plate, $3,000.
shocked. >> Very good. All right. >> And then your your leaky trans. That's bucks, you know. >> Yeah, the transmission was leaking more
than the engine. So, and somebody had gooped it as you saw out there. But >> So, okay. >> Goopy seems to be the theme here. That would have been that would have been easy. So that's without obviously the
it. And then there's going to be a machinist spinning a lot of time. How many hours you think of machining? >> Um well, you see this? >> That's the book. >> The book of secrets. And uh yeah, I mean
Look, I opened right to it. Look at that. >> Mhm. >> So yeah, and you can see your different nine. >> Oh, okay. as far as if the if the
>> Yep. >> To be repaired. Okay. >> Yeah. Put the oversized bearings in it to see how it goes. So, I think >> based on what was available, I'm trying to remember. I got standard size. Okay.
>> Mhm. >> So, we'll see. And the main bearings I had to go to repair size one. So, >> from what the classic guys told me is >> I guess that's why they don't have them. >> Yeah. They're usually repairable unless
something horrible happens. And so that I guess from what we're seeing they're probably right. >> So okay. So what do you think as far as labor hours to as far as machining put it back together? Just I mean I'm search
is just a guess but >> well you see good, fast, and cheap are >> well you see good, fast, and cheap are your options. You can only pick two. >> you want it done right. Right. >> Yeah. I do want I don't want to ever
have to do this ever again. Yes. Absolutely. Yes. So, you know, gosh, I don't I don't know. Let's see. Do you think there's a uh a flat rate guide in >> I don't think so. So, we're just going to find out as we go cuz you've never
>> Right. So, we we want it done right. I mean, I don't know. I don't even think they? >> Right. Probably not. But, I mean, if it's if it's a 100 hours, >> generally an engine rebuild, they say
>> right? It's still I mean, the parts are the vast majority of the cost of this. There's going to be a sublet for that part searching. Doesn't [snorts] doesn't car wizard do that? >> I don't remember him doing that, but you
his habits. All right. Well, >> yeah. [laughter] >> There's the book rental fee. >> Yeah. Well, one thing you do know is as conversion c costs, >> those are those are pretty reasonable
>> Yes. >> So, how much is is that? 175 generally >> So because like on the Ferraris they're >> pricey. Yeah. >> So that I mean
>> So >> well can we can we try one of them? >> Yeah. >> A look who's here. >> So what's the story on this? We're both in our 12cylinder
>> kid haulers. Right. bygon 12cylinder cars as I think Bentley has done away >> salvage flood >> severe accident but title. >> And that was with it had like 500 miles on it back in 2013. And so
>> He has it's been done. So >> you don't want to encourage people to bring Bentley's here, right? No. >> No. Okay. [laughter] >> As a special favor, you know, after about I don't know $8,000 to him. It's
wonderfully. >> That's awesome. So, so this is your their turn. Yeah. >> As far as manual swap things. >> But he has a front line. >> Yeah. Let's take a look cuz I was about
swaps. So >> Oh, hopefully it's the CLK. I drove that one and it is wildly impressive. >> I'm hoping too. So, >> Really? >> 30,000 mi
>> with the panel roof. Look at that. Oh, yeah. >> Worth more than the car. The 600 had the special interior. Okay. Yeah, this is wheels, which the silver wheels were pretty.
>> this is uh to keep the silver ones nicer, [laughter] >> To protect them. >> Yep. All right. So, this >> that is AEC 63 with a manual swap.
>> You You manual swapped it? >> Yeah. It's actually very spicy. >> Wow. Why? But why why would somebody make this this is not a nice wooden? >> driver quality. >> Yeah, it is driver quality.
Mechanically, it is wonderful. >> So, obviously not a black series and it Because they wouldn't >> it was a P31, not not a full 507. At >> Okay. Well, >> good on them. Looks like a riot.
>> Yeah. You >> Hey, it's like Burger King around here. >> If if this is your car, I mean, we we we love the hooptie versions. I don't mean >> Yeah. Okay. >> That's it. Next stop.
>> Swapped. >> Yep. >> So, everything in this row except the last two SLs are This one swapped too >> cuz that I mean obviously the cost of these are still I This was all chipped
manual swap is almost the value of the car, but it's probably quite a thing >> It is. It is a wonderful thing. I mean, we can take that out if you want. Or if uh >> I It would be nice for Ed to ride along
got to try this out. >> I can't fault you for it. Although, it Series with a back seat. >> Last time we had one, it was out at Concord Club for Moda,
>> Mhm. >> But, uh, this one's lovely. You'll enjoy >> All right. Well, is the wagon swapped? >> Not yet. It's in line. Since that's a DC >> Oh, okay. >> But we got a sweet Lacosta edition. One
>> Oh, is it the interior? >> It is. It is the interior. >> Okay. Oh, yeah. That's That's That's awesome. >> Yeah. Oneowner Lacosta edition.
>> It will be. Yeah. >> How How much? >> How much? >> Yes, it is. Uh, I got to get my recon bill first and then then we'll talk. >> The fixes come first. All right.
>> Okay. Whoa. >> Yeah. Proper black series. >> Whoa. So, I've driven a few of these, but never obviously a swap. Look at that. What? This
>> That's right. So, I had a C320 manual and that was a because you only get like C-Class, sixcylinders, and four-cylinders in the US as far as manuals go. >> You ready for the best part? Put your
foot on the brake and hit that little button there. itself back then, >> not on the black series. That's factory
location on these. bit. >> Does that make sense? >> Does that make sense? Wow.
>> Yeah, let's do it. >> So, shifter feel is is about the same as the Mercedes I drove as far as the manuals. I mean, I guess it's Mercedes >> Yeah, except the clutch. This one's got the uh got a spicier clutch to hold the
uh the >> I see. Yep. So, it Yeah. Grabs a little sporty, but that's good. I'll let it warm up. But you're you're good to go. >> Yeah, it is warmed up.
>> Yeah, it is warmed up. That where they're trying to make it like a Ferrari and these things was so stupid, this is >> this is what it all if this was a
factory thing, then these would be million-dollar cars. Um, that that was always what killed the flexibility even though values are going up on these.
>> 120. Yeah. >> Okay. And then you swap it and then you got one of the best cars. >> It is ever. Everyone we do just seems to get better. It just it doesn't get old. Wow. Okay.
Okay. Yep. I need one. Series is the no back seat thing, which for the kids and stuff, but
>> like an E63 wagon would be awesome. E55, probably the E63 cuz you want the lumpy kind of muscly V8 versus the blower on it when you when you with a manual where
>> Yep. >> Okay. I'm sold, but I have to get over I got to pay for the parts first and then whatever the labor's going to be. And then and then maybe 20 years from now, I
might have the money again to to do this if you're still alive. >> I hope so. >> Oh god. If I'm still alive is what I should say. Jeez, I'm the one getting old. All right. Well, the car is in good
machine shop that you're working with. So that's the other thing where >> Yeah. So, you'll be overseeing all of that and even though it is your first going, I mean obviously you're rebuilding Mercy engines, Diablo engines
for Ed and everything else in between and it's I mean it's it's old and it's that, right? I mean there's there's nothing crazy about that engine.
Well, this just this is worth the trip here just to drive one of these, dude. all. >> I've driven it before the person who owns this. Wow. Well, whoever you are, congratulations. This is This is
>> Wow. Thank you so much for watching. >> Hey, pretty good. >> What do you got? >> What do you got? >> I got a 955 Mercedes 300 SL Gold Wing.
>> Okay. Oh, very nice. >> Mhm. Is it in good shape? >> It was. I let a comedian drive it once and then not long. Motor blue. Sounds >> Tyler Hoover. >> Tyler Hoover. President of More Money
Than Brains club. Yes. Yes. [laughter] >> Bring it up a bit. >> That's good. That's good. I'm in that club myself. So, that's a compliment. California before you took it home? Is it in Kansas right now or Phoenix or
>> I think it's in pieces. >> It's actually >> Yes, it's in pieces in Atlanta getting getting rebuilt. Um, but uh got moment? I don't know. I I didn't get it quite cuz it was a beautiful car. It
unfortunately. >> Tyler, do you ever have good luck with cars, guys? If if uh Hooie's Garage is very popular YouTube channel, so he problems, but he keeps going back to the
>> Well, you know, I I sympathize with it cuz I the cars I look for are rare. So, when you get them, if they got problems, we'll find another one. There aren't any >> I'm looking for a bid for my Golding. Come on. That's That's what the show's
>> Come on, Jay. You need another >> What is it you need? You need an oil smoked. >> So, are we are we bidding it finished or >> Not finished. Take it as is in pieces with the cylinder scored. And uh my
brand new race cam is is is ruined. And yeah, it's a mess. >> I put a sport cam in an engine with questionable oil pressure. Yes. So, I'm >> Hooie, what's the bill going to be in Atlanta?
>> Could be finished. >> Probably around 25. >> Okay. That Yeah, that's pretty good. So, if you've got competent people on it and we buy it, I would rather let them finish the job then move it in
parts and then have new set of problems. So, will you take a million fix for it? >> That's a very good bid. I would take that and run. I mean, for a car that's that and run. I mean, for a car that's in pieces right now,
