[0:00] There's two really cool looking Star [0:01] Wars games that are coming out like [0:03] soon. [0:03] >> Yeah. [0:04] >> Crazy. Uh and they're they're doing two [0:06] They're I love that they're exact [0:07] opposite mentalities, but they both [0:09] sound like they are kind of mixing it up [0:11] in the best possible way. Uh Star Wars [0:13] Zero Company is [snorts] [0:15] the it's got the it's at a glance you're [0:17] like, "Okay, it's XCOM." The thing that [0:19] I think they're burying is that that [0:20] it's also very Mass Effect 2. [0:23] >> Mhm. [0:23] >> Where you are basically trying to get [0:26] this whole like ragtag crew together and [0:27] you have to like do you have to build [0:29] relationships with them. So, there's [0:30] there's that. You also have like you'll [0:33] also have kind of, you know, your own [0:34] customizable [0:36] dis- not disposable, but you'll have [0:38] like a non- non-bespoke scripted [0:40] characters, but then you'll have a [0:41] handful of like [0:43] thoroughly written out NPCs that you [0:45] have like on your squad and you can pick [0:46] and choose who you want to take into [0:47] battle. And you know, then the rest of [0:49] it s- seems like it's just Star Wars [0:51] XCOM, which like [0:52] no problem with that. That sounds like a [0:54] good time. I would like to play that. Uh [0:57] I love a good tactical game. I XCOM was [0:59] was uh that was Enemy Unknown was my my [1:01] first and I was always [1:03] prior to that was like I just didn't [1:04] really [1:06] Yeah, I didn't really give a [ __ ] about [1:07] turn-based stuff and I don't really know [1:09] why. I don't know what made it click, [1:10] but that just suddenly was like, "Oh, [1:11] wow. I actually enjoy strategy on some [1:13] level. This is neat." And [1:15] [clears throat] [1:16] I think also just the amount of the [1:17] amount of personality that XCOM had [1:19] where you like go back to your little [1:20] base and you like talk to people and [1:22] there's like a sense of kind of you're [1:24] again going back to the whole like thing [1:25] about I like a robot game where you feel [1:27] like you get in the robot. I like that [1:29] you can you feel like you're in this [1:30] world. You're not just looking at grids. [1:32] >> Mhm. [1:33] >> And this one sounds like they're just [1:34] kind of they're they're [1:36] music to my ears. And it comes out in [1:37] like August, I think. [1:40] >> Mhm. [1:40] >> When is this out? [1:41] >> Yeah, this is this is like not my [1:42] favorite genre of games, but this is one [1:46] of my favorite IPs and I realize that [1:48] that does a lot of hip heavy lifting for [1:50] me. Um that Alien one that came out, [1:52] what was the name of it, Max? [1:54] >> Oh, um [1:56] >> You talking about the [1:57] >> The like tactical one where you're like [1:58] marching the guys down [clears throat] [2:00] through. [2:00] Um [2:01] >> That was really awesome. It was like a, [2:03] you know, tactics based alien game that [2:05] did really good survival horror and [2:07] people went insane from space madness. [2:10] Um there's like prominent characters. [2:12] >> Descent. Yeah, I really I really dug [2:14] that one. [2:14] >> That one That one was was real Was that [2:16] real-time combat? I think it was. [2:18] >> That was technically I believe it was I [2:19] think it was like pseudo real-time to [2:22] where it kind of things moved while you [2:24] moved kind of aspect. It's been a while [2:26] since I played it, so I could be wrong [2:28] as well, but [2:28] >> Yeah, it was [2:29] I was sort of hoping it would just be [2:30] like a more straight XCOM thing and it [2:32] was it was cool, but it wasn't exactly [2:34] what I wanted. But yeah, this is looking [2:37] I don't know this is looking neat. And [2:38] you know, for for the impatient among [2:40] us, there's also Star Wars Galactic [2:42] Racer, which is I don't know I love that [2:44] you're like, okay, there's a turn-based [2:45] tactical strategy thing. You wait your [2:47] turn, you're planning your next move. [2:48] Here's one where you go 300 miles an [2:49] hour and try to make other things blow [2:51] up instead of you. And I'm into it. I [2:53] can't wait. [2:54] >> Yeah, keep going. I'm more excited for [2:55] this. This reminds me of like the old [2:57] school [2:58] like early days where like we were [3:00] getting stuff like Extreme G and Wipeout [3:02] and like this whole like hey the year is [3:05] 2022 [3:07] and [3:08] >> [laughter] [3:09] >> the world has gone apocalyptic and the [3:10] only way to save it is to drive these [3:12] stupid things really [laughter] fast. [3:14] I'm like, yeah, sure man, it's great. I [3:16] love it. And they were always like such [3:17] graphical showcases and stuff like that. [3:19] Um [3:20] this one looks really cool. Reading [3:21] about like the rogue light elements for [3:23] the story mode. Also, I realized they [3:26] they put a what's his name Max Rebo? [3:28] He's like a in Solo and he's voiced by [3:31] Jon Favreau and there's another one of [3:32] those four-arm monkey guys who's voiced [3:34] by Scorsese in in Mandalorian and Grogu [3:37] and they have one of those guys in this [3:38] game and I hope they got a director for [3:40] it. [3:41] >> [snorts] [3:41] >> It's Wes Anderson. It's Wes [3:43] >> [laughter] [3:43] >> Heard it here first. No, it's not. [3:46] I wish these cars would stop going so [3:48] damn fast. [3:48] >> I think if you tried to talk to Wes [3:50] Anderson about pod racing, he would [3:52] [laughter] just burst into flames. [3:56] That pod racing is basically the [3:57] opposite of all of his sensibilities. [3:59] >> Mhm. I am so hyped for both of these. [4:02] This like the trailer for pod racing [4:04] here or racers is just straight up [4:07] burnout for me. Everything from the [4:08] cinematic when you run somebody into a [4:10] wall like it's just [4:12] calling my name. That is going to be a [4:14] day one easy easy easy decision for me. [4:19] Uh and [4:21] Zero Company as well. I I just finished [4:24] up Midnight Suns with Platinum like last [4:27] year. [4:28] >> Oh, hell yeah. [4:28] >> I played that for so many hours. Like it [4:30] was I probably put a pumped a good 200 [4:32] hours into it. [4:33] >> With second wind shorter. That game was [4:34] too long. [4:35] >> I mean, but I loved it. I loved all the [4:38] interactions with all the your your [4:40] teammates and everybody that you could [4:41] like, you know, take Storm on a a little [4:44] date up to the roof and [4:45] >> Yeah, that was the part I liked. [4:47] But then it Yeah, you then you get stuck [4:49] fighting like zombie juggernaut for 3 [4:52] hours or whatever, but [4:54] >> [laughter] [4:54] >> No, that that that was Yeah. [4:56] >> Yeah. I I just hope they take what [4:58] everybody loves about like the the [5:00] original XCOM games and they take in a [5:02] lot of that pseudo relationship stuff [5:05] and put it into Zero Company. If so, I [5:07] think they've got a a winning [5:09] uh hand. [5:10] >> I asked them if there's romance options, [5:11] they wouldn't tell me, but I hope [5:12] there's romance options so I can do [5:14] kissing when I'm not engaged in like [5:16] tactical permadeath mode. Uh [5:18] So the the human side of the racers is a [5:20] thing I'm also excited about with the [5:21] human alien whatever. There's [5:23] bits where you're in between races where [5:25] you get to like walk around a little a [5:26] little area. [5:28] Uh I was immediately on board with this [5:29] one when they first showed it off and [5:30] then I heard the roguelite thing and I [5:32] was kind of iffy about it, but the more [5:33] I think about it, the more I really like [5:35] it because it's it sounds like it's kind [5:37] of roguelite choose your own adventure [5:38] like it's very it's very [5:40] wrapped around the story. It's not just [5:42] not just the gameplay side of it, but [5:46] uh yeah, I guess between races you get [5:48] to sort of hang out. Yeah, you get to [5:49] hang out in that place where like [5:51] like, you know, where Qui- Qui-Gon and [5:53] Watto play dice or whatever. [laughter] [5:56] That paddock area. [5:57] >> The junkyard, yeah. [5:58] >> Yeah, and it's just Yeah. How cool would [6:00] it be by the trash? [6:01] >> How cool would it be if you like those [6:02] conversations like led into like [6:04] somebody tampering with your vehicle [6:05] before a race or something like story [6:07] elements? [6:08] >> hope that's the case. [6:09] >> That would be really cool. [6:10] >> Yeah, I think just That is That is a [6:11] great gameplay idea. [6:12] >> This doesn't It doesn't need Again, this [6:15] game doesn't need to get weird. It [6:16] doesn't need to be a roguelite. It [6:18] doesn't need to have, you know, [6:19] character interactions. It could just be [6:21] a straightforward racing game and people [6:22] would probably be excited for it, but I [6:24] really like that they are actually [6:25] getting They're trying some new stuff. [6:27] They're getting a little bit a little [6:28] bit creative with it. [6:29] >> Yeah, they're doing a little world [6:30] building. It's cool. [6:31] >> that creative world building is what's [6:32] going to would make will help take this [6:34] game from being a cool, I've played it [6:36] for 3-6 months to playing people playing [6:38] it for a year or more. [6:39] >> Yeah. [6:40] Also, can I just say how extremely happy [6:43] it makes me that we are getting [6:45] two Star Wars games within months of [6:47] each other instead of [6:49] multiple Star Wars game cancellations [6:51] within months of each other. Like, we [6:54] got so used to just like hearing about a [6:55] thing, oh, it's not happening. Hearing [6:57] about a thing, it's they're not doing [6:58] it. And like [7:00] I don't know, EA I don't know how they [7:01] do things over there, but we got like [7:03] They had that franchise for 10 years and [7:06] I think we got [7:07] I don't know, we got the Jedi games out [7:08] of it. That was cool. Battlefront had [7:10] its moments, but it was largely [7:12] it felt like they were just [7:14] overthinking it. [7:15] >> Yeah, and these these are not these are [7:17] not small games by any stretch of the [7:18] imagination, but they're definitely [7:20] smaller than Battlefront 2 was, right? [7:22] It like there isn't there aren't 600 [7:25] maps here from what I can tell or like 6 [7:27] years of planned content. I don't know [7:28] what the long tail looks like for for [7:30] Galactic Racers, but something tells me [7:32] that this is not at the same budget as [7:34] something like that. And this is what [7:35] This is what I think you need to do, [7:37] like, you know, and like do this and do [7:40] even smaller stuff, right? Bring back [7:41] Yoda stories. Give me [7:43] Give me small games again. [7:45] >> Oh [snorts] man, yeah, modern Yoda [7:46] stories. [7:47] >> Mhm. [7:48] >> I play that. [7:49] >> Make it a roguelite. [7:50] >> Yeah. [7:51] >> Add romance options. You can go kiss [7:53] Yoda. [7:53] >> He kisses He loves to kiss that snake [7:55] that he's always [7:56] >> His little forehead. [7:57] >> I'm not shooting, I'm smooching. [7:59] >> [laughter] [7:59] >> Anyway. [8:01] >> Hey, thanks for watching this clip from [8:02] Beyond, IGN's weekly PlayStation show.
