# Sports Betting Myths That Will Bankrupt You

> Source: [Sports Betting Myths That Will Bankrupt You](https://youtube.com/watch?v=p6bxQUuCgDo)

## Summary

The video debunks three common sports betting myths, emphasizing that profitability depends on price versus probability rather than win rate. It explains how to identify value bets and avoid unfavorable odds, using tools like Odds Jam and examples from FanDuel.

### Key Points

- **Myth 1: You need to win most bets to be profitable** [00:14] — Win rate alone doesn't determine profitability; it's about the price received relative to the probability. At -110 odds, you need 52.38% wins to break even; at +150, only 40% is needed.
- **Myth 2: Parlays are sucker bets** [02:47] — Same Game Parlays (SGPs) have poor pricing due to baked-in correlation, while traditional parlays offer fair odds. Example: a two-leg SGP at +390 vs. a traditional parlay at +380, showing a $90 difference on a $100 bet.
- **Myth 3: Stop betting after a losing streak** [06:00] — Losing streaks are statistically normal; sticking to a process and maintaining consistent bet sizing (1-3% of bankroll) leads to long-term profitability. Personal example: lost $3,000 in 13 days, then made $7,000 by staying patient.
- **The role of expected value** [07:35] — The core principle is finding positive expected value (EV) by comparing the price offered to the true probability. Tools like Odds Jam help identify value plays across sportsbooks.

### Conclusion

The video concludes that sports betting success hinges on understanding value, avoiding poor-priced bets like SGPs, and maintaining discipline through streaks. By focusing on price versus probability and consistent bankroll management, bettors can achieve profitability.

dangerous myths that are literally bankrupting them. And I used to be one of those betterers. I lost thousands of dollars believing these lies until I discovered the truth that the sports books don't want you to know. You've
always wins or you need inside But what if I told you that this is complete BS designed to keep you losing? I'm about to expose the top three sports betting myths that Chat GPT says are
importantly, I'm going to show you the real strategies that actually make you profitable. Strategies that I've been using on Odds Gym to earn over $100,000. And just this month in December, I'm up over $6,000. I'm going to mythbust these
dangerous lies and show you what actually works in sports betting because I'm on a mission to help the casual sports better dominate the sports books and rake in the profits just like the pros do. over here on ChatGpt. I'm
simply just going to ask, give me the number one biggest sports betting myth. And let's see what it says. You need to win most of your bets to be profitable. And this is completely false. There's this misunderstanding within the sports
betting market of how odds work. I understand that most people don't deal with odds on an everyday basis, but what you need to understand is all odds are associated with a win probability. So, let's break down why you need to win
most of your bets to be profitable is absolute BS. Over here at FanDuel, when Rockets on the point spread, this is the most common odds that you see, which is minus 110 on either side. Well, understand that minus 110 means that you
have to win 52.38% of your bets to break even. So, if you're someone that is really good at picking winners at minus 110 odds and picking winners at minus 110 odds and you win more than 52.38% of the time,
you're a very profitable better. On the flip side, if you love to bet a lot of flip side, if you love to bet a lot of underdogs at say plus 150 odds, as long as you win more than 40% of the time betting plus 150 odds, you're going to
be profitable. And Chate PT does a great job of breaking this down. Profitability has nothing to do with win rate. This is a very common misconception with beginning sports betterers. It's all about price versus probability. What's
the price that you're receiving compared to the probability? Something that you they'll tell you that, hey, yesterday I won seven out of my 10 bets. And you think that's really good. Well, if this person is betting minus 300 odds
consistently, winning seven out of your 10 bets is a 70% win rate. that person lost money because they have to win at least 75% of their bets that day in least 75% of their bets that day in order to break even. Moving on to myth
number two, parlays are sucker bets. And that's absolutely incorrect because as we alluded to in the first tip, it's all about the price that you're receiving compared to the probability. Same game parlays are one of the worst bets that
you can make on a sports book. It's why they advertise it so much. The books know that the price that they're giving you is garbage. That's why they want you to bet it. It's more advantageous, more money in the sports books pocket
compared to yours. So, if I wanted to put together a two-leg SGP on Smith over and Moy over, both plays are plus 140 odds. When I add this over here onto a two-leg slip, odds Jam's telling me I should be receiving odds of plus 476. I
go ahead and double check my math. I go to a parlay calculator, type in plus 140 for two legs. it's plus476. But over here on Fandanda, when I actually go to create the slip, it's plus 390 odds. So, a $100 wager should pay us out $476
of profit. But over here, we're only receiving 390. So, we're getting paid out way less than what we should on an SGP. Instead, avoid SGPs and go towards the traditional parlay route. The sports books will never rip you off with their
pricing. When I add Boozelis to this two-le parlay with Smith, you can see we're receiving odds of plus 380. So, a $100 wager pays us out $480 total or $380 in profit. When I double check this over on the parlay calculator, you could
see that we are receiving plus 380 odds. And over at FanDuel, bingo, we're receiving plus 380 odds because these are two different events. Now, the price just changed on Boozelis ever so slightly, but still this is the exact
price that we should be receiving. So SGPS bake in very poor correlation into the algorithm, which gives you terrible pricing, which means there's less money that's flowing into your pocket, more money into the sports books pocket. But
the whole reason that we even want to place this bet in the first place is because we're getting paid out more than what we should on this Jabari Smith Jr. play. All of the sports books set their own odds independently, and they have
this as an average odds of plus 115. So, a $100 wager on Smith should pay us out $115 of profit. But over at Fando, we're getting paid out at plus 140 odd. So, that's an extra $25 in our pocket off of this play. So, line shopping and making
sure that we're receiving an incredible price or in this case, the fair price price or in this case, the fair price should be plus 121 spot 5. This plus 140 is way above that price, which means that's value to our pocket. More money
books pocket. That's why we want to put this on a parlay in the first place. But putting this on an SGP was terrible for us compared to a traditional parlay, which is very advantageous when it comes
to cooking up parlays. Odds Jam's positive EV tool just shows me the best scan all the sports books and figure out which plays I should go after. And guys, if you want to try this software one week for free and save 35% off your
first month after the oneweek trial ends, use code Billy35. It'll be linked in the description below. As we go into the third myth, there's a common theme with the first two myths, which it's all about price over probability. What's the
What's that price that you're receiving compared to the probability of that pick hitting? It's all about finding positive expected value at the end of the day, guys. With all of these picks, as we head into the third myth, you should
stop betting after a losing streak. This is all based off of feels. And I can you're down in the dumps and you're losing, it feels like you're never going to win another bet. And at times when you're riding high and you're winning
every bet, it feels like you just can't lose. But just because you're on a losing streak does not mean that that streak is going to continue, especially if you are sharp sports betting and finding plays that have an edge.
Sometimes the coin doesn't flip our way, but over the course of a lot of bets, the coin will flip your way and things will turn around. There's no better streak than what I'm currently going through this month in December. Look at
the first 13 days on my calendar. I placed 464 bets, only won 45% of my placed 464 bets, only won 45% of my bets. I lost just over $3,000. It would be very easy for me on December 14th to say, you know what, let's just take a
break. I'm on this endless losing streak. It's never going to turn around. But what happened? I stuck to my process. The coin started to flip my way and from the 14th to the 27th I made over $7,000
and now I'm very profitable in the month of December. Streaks come and go. Your losing streaks won't last forever. Same can be said for your hot streaks. But at the end of the day, if you're finding plays that have an edge and staying true
with your process, trust me, you're going to end up profitable. I love the explanation that Chat GPT gives here. It says losing streaks are built into profitable betting. If you're betting plays that win 55% of the time or let's
plays that win 55% of the time or let's say roughly minus 120 odds, well then losing 10 bets in a row is statistically normal because 45% of the time you have an opportunity to lose that bet. It doesn't mean that anything's broken or
you don't know the script, right? Or the books are against you. But the real problem is most casual sports betterers start to double, triple, quadruple their bet sizes on that next wager. a little bit of a low-key martingale system where
back plus profits. And that's how you can seriously run your bankroll to doubling, tripling every bet that you lose. But losing streaks happen all the
with my December is staying patient, staying true to my process, not throwing 10 or 15 units down on the next play, whether I'm hot or cold. I stick to the same range that one to three% of my
sports betting bankroll on every single play and I stick to 95% of my bets are hit it all on a 10 leg parlay. I'm sticking to single straight wagers, grinding out that edge over time and letting that coin flip my way to get
those profits back plus some extra. If you found value in the content thus far, button, click that thumbs up button, and tap that bell notification so you don't you find yourself struggling consistently to win at sports betting, I
