[00:00] In fact, I've used the strategies that I'm about to show you Entrepreneur, and more. Today I'm gonna show you [00:14] and some advanced techniques (light music) [00:26] I started my first blog way back in 2010. Back then, spammy black hat link building was all the rage. like article directories and link pyramids. [00:42] These black hat links worked okay This update wiped out 98% of my Google traffic literally overnight. [00:56] Thanks to the white hat link building strategies my organic traffic shot up like a rocket ship. like video SEO, keyword research, on-page SEO, and more. [01:13] with strategy number one, link roundups. for the sole purpose of linking out to quality content, That would be awesome, right? [01:28] and they're called link roundups. What are link roundups exactly? Link roundups are daily, weekly, or monthly blog posts [01:42] For example, this is a link Now let's break down the exact process that I used First, you need to find link roundups in your industry. [01:56] Just pop these search strings into Google and you should find tons of high-quality roundups. it's time to pitch your content. [02:10] You want to send the script to the person As you can see, this script isn't pushy or spammy. and gently suggest that they include it [02:26] If your post is a good fit for that person's roundup, With that, it's time for our second strategy, Broken link building is one of my all-time favorite [02:39] You see, when most people build links, they send generic pictures that offer zero value. Thank you. [02:51] Send. First, add Check My Links to Google Chrome. that finds broken links on any page. [03:08] But for now, let's move on to step number two. You probably already have a few sites in mind. If not, just Google keywords related to your industry. [03:22] are great sites to get backlinks from. to this list of SEO tools so I googled things like SEO checklist and SEO tutorial. [03:35] To do this, just visit a few pages This will reveal all the broken links on that page. [03:47] and offer your content as a replacement. I send them this email. The more you personalize your email, [04:03] Anyway when they reply to my message, I also pitch my SEO tools post as a replacement Because I added value first, [04:16] people were happy to link to me. build links from podcasts. where one of the sites in my niche got their backlinks from [04:30] came from going on podcasts. on as many podcasts as I could. over the next year and 1/2. [04:43] Not only did these podcasts send some serious traffic my way Moving right along to our next technique, A few years ago, I was searching for some productivity tips [04:59] In this post, Merlin outlined something called Inbox Zero, as your to-do list. [05:11] What shocked me was that this simple idea When I looked over those backlinks, I noticed a pattern. with a unique name, Inbox Zero. [05:28] naming my strategies too. I called it the skyscraper technique. The post where I first mentioned the skyscraper technique [05:42] If you look at those links, that I gave my strategy a unique branded name. become a source for reporters and bloggers. [05:58] Here is the deal. In fact, it's very doable [06:11] HARO is like a dating site for public relations. to people that want links and press mentions. [06:23] for mega news sites like Entrepreneur.com. and it's not always easy. to build quality backlinks at scale. [06:37] First, register as a source. from reporters looking for sources like this. [06:49] send them your pitch. from someone that wanted to know So I submitted this pitch [07:03] and I got this sweet link from rasmussen.edu, Not bad. Next up, we have strategy number six, pre-outreach. [07:15] was getting ready to publish this epic piece of content. So Emil decided to promote his post [07:30] This is known as pre-outreach. First, Emil found blogs that wrote about employee wellness Because he didn't beg for a link, [07:44] were happy to hear from him. he sent a link to everyone And that led to a bunch of social shares [07:56] With that, it's time for strategy seven, It's no secret that links from edu websites The question is, how do you actually get university sites [08:10] .edu resource pages. where they link to content Here is an example of a resource page [08:23] that links to content about nutrition and supplements. First, you want to find resource pages To do that, pop these search strings into Google. [08:37] would be a good fit for that page. this proven script. Now keep this in mind. [08:55] The good news is, even one or two of these links For example, I recently used this strategy on the University of Michigan website. [09:10] in my organic traffic. wait until you see strategy number eight, The moving man method is simple. [09:22] that are outdated, just rebranded, Then find sites that are still linking Finally, let people know that they're linking to something [09:37] Let me show you how this works with a real-life example. for a big SEO agency suddenly shut down. that weren't working anymore, [09:50] Specifically I noticed that an infographic about SEO which was perfect because I had just published Nice. [10:05] Next, I had to see who actually linked to this infographic. So I fired up a hrefs and pulled all their links. I let them know that the image wasn't working anymore. [10:21] will make a great replacement for the BlueGlass one. As you can see, people were more than happy to link to me. for our last link building strategy, guestographics. [10:35] Last year, Backlinko reader Matt Lawry had a problem. Matt runs Yellow Octopus, an e-commerce site in Australia it's really hard to build links to e-commerce sites. [10:49] that's made up of 100% product and category pages? First, Matt put together an epic piece of content, [11:05] This guide contained everything someone would want to know Now of course Matt didn't just sit back He promoted his content with email outreach. [11:21] and sent them personalized emails, some people even offered to link to his guide. that his customers search for every day, Australian gin. [11:35] in the highly coveted featured snippet spot. find guest posting opportunities with Google Images. [11:48] Now a lot of people say But is it true? guest posting is one of the best ways [12:01] For example, when I first started Backlinko, I wrote over 50 guest posts and interviews in about a year. gave my organic traffic a nice early boost. [12:16] I made sure to only write guest posts So if you run a site about the paleo diet that's gonna look spammy. [12:30] for quality sites in your industry, The question is, how do you find sites to guest post on? First, find someone in your niche [12:45] Second, grab the URL of the headshot that they use Finally, pop that URL into Google reverse image search. that guest posted presented to you on a silver platter.
