[00:02] Good afternoon, Le. This is many a true nerd and welcome to Resident Evil Code of Veronica. Because as you may be aware, Capcom have announced that yes, their next big Resident Evil remake is going to be based on this game from [00:15] 2000. And as a result of that, I thought it might be a good idea to give some attention to the original because one, I think this is a really bloody interesting game, arguably a really nice final evolution of old Resident Evil, [00:30] with a couple of ideas that would become more prominent in new Resident Evil, i.e. Resident Evil 4 onwards. It's just a really interesting game. And two, it is actually, yes, rather difficult to play Cover Veronica these days because [00:45] it was never released on PC at all. So the only way to play this is older console versions. This particular one being, yes, the Gamecube version. So, okay, let's just jump on in because as I say, this is actually really bloody good [00:59] Resident Evil game. Even if, yes, it has been played by tragically few people. Resident Evil. I should also flag, by the way, this game has possibly the most ludicrous opening to any Resident Evil game of all time. And bloody hell, I [01:15] hope they keep all of this in the remake. [01:35] caught her trespassing in our Paris Lab facility 10 days ago. She apparently infiltrated the complex looking for her lost brother, Chris Redfield, one of the surviving members of RPD's famous stars teams. [03:17] in Capcom that decided the way to open this new Claire Redfield game was to have her outrun a helicopter and then explode a room of 20 guards. But bloody hell, I hope they still work that. That person deserves a payriseise. Anyway, [03:32] that nonsense out the way. Yes, I've been captured. I'm in a mysterious umbrella present somewhere. Unfortunately, this exact moment in Unfortunately, this exact moment in time. I don't know precisely what's [03:44] light and darkness system going on in this game. So, there's somebody right this game. So, there's somebody right outside of my cell, but I don't know who outside of my cell, but I don't know who andor what they are. So, fair enough. [03:58] yes, hilariously, the player manual, which you need to use just to get out of your inventory, which also delightfully just to fuse you in on some old classic Resident Evil tropes, like, hey, when you find an item, maybe check it. [04:11] There's probably something written on the back. But yeah, so more importantly, CLA these days starts with a lighter. This isn't her first Resident Evil adventure. She knows these things can be bloody useful. But yeah, one, it doesn't [04:23] actually take up space in her inventory list. and two, she doesn't just use it, around holding it out in order to create a light around you. On this occasion, if a light around you. On this occasion, if we do that, [05:14] I don't know. It might have been a special forces team. But in any case, this [music] prison's been taken over. Troops have been wiped out. [05:29] >> You're free to leave [music] the complex. island. >> And what about you? What are you going to do? >> Don't worry about me. [05:50] unconscious and whatnot, something's gone wrong with the prison. And yes, you may notice straight away rather cool thing about this Resident Evil. As I say, a bit of a bridge between old and new Resident Evil. So, yeah, everything [06:04] here is actually made out of a proper 3D asset. It's not just a pre-rendered 2D backgrounds or anything. As a result of that, the game can have fixed camera angles, but yeah, the camera can still move slightly to follow you, creating a [06:18] much more dynamic horror experience to my mind. And while we're passing by, just loop the room. So, yes, small red box means a handgun bullets. Will definitely be wanting some of those. And the thing that that guy threw away, [06:31] the thing that that guy threw away, heatic capsule, now empty. So, that guy may not be a zombie, but he is wounded and lacking in medicine. So he probably won't be okay for long. Though Clare being a good egg has decided if she can, [06:45] she will help him. So yes, if we do find some more heistatic medicine in future, we'll try and bring it back to him. Beyond that, nothing much here. So right, grab a basic combat knife, which is not great to be honest. We won't be [07:00] using that that much or anything. And yes, on we flipping go. just crack open yes, on we flipping go. just crack open the creepy Resident Evil door, etc., etc. Yes, as we're still in a somewhat old Resident Evil territory, we are [07:15] dealing with finite ink ribbons for saving, etc., etc. But, to be honest, you know what? That's just on and off always been a bit of Resident Evil. Damn it. Still, keep on keeping on. We could get a bit of a shuff by holding down B. [07:30] And yes, the moment we uh get outside, let's just say this game doesn't have a nice slow start. Things escalate in a hurry because outside here, yes, one hurry because outside here, yes, one weather's a bit on the unpleasant side, [07:45] something's a little bit on the sparking side, etc., etc. And we do kick off in a side, etc., etc. And we do kick off in a cocking graveyard. So, let's just get a bit of a shunty on because yes indeed, as I say, things are about to go wrong [08:01] in a hurry. So, things have exploded, things are on fire. A zombie is also here. He's also on fire. And let's just say he's not the only zombie presence. [08:57] fight every zombie. Sometimes running away is a good idea. Let's just get past you if we can. And we're going to take a couple of bites here. But honestly, that's okay because hang on, just get around the side of you. Claire's a tough [09:11] old cookie. Despite taking your two nibbles, yeah, basic newborn zombies out of their graves are not that tough. So, I'm still fine. Okay. Couple of nibbles ain't slowing down Claire Redfield instead. Yes. Just check the map, figure [09:24] out where the nearest door is, and make a bloody run for it. All right. That's the better option here. We'll be back later once you've got some guns or whatnot. Speaking of guns, I love this, by the way. The way that you know where [09:38] things are in this game is you look where Clare is looking because there's a know, glinting or glittering or anything like that. It's just lying on the ground. But CLA looks at it if it's vaguely within her line of sight. It was [09:53] a really elegant way of, you know, flagging away things were in the world. It was delightful. And Jazz, one more thing of note, too, which is in a moment we're going to take a step forward and we're gonna meet CLA's new companion for [10:07] we're gonna meet CLA's new companion for this adventure. [10:38] >> Huh? You're not a zombie. Well, great. Wait right there. I'm Well, great. Wait right there. I'm coming over. [10:54] misunderstanding, but I thought you were another one of those monsters. >> Shut up. Make one wrong move and I'll shoot. [11:09] name's Steve. I was a prisoner on this island. And I'm guessing you're not from Umbrella either. [11:21] Umbrella either. >> No, I'm Claire. Claire Redfield. H. Nice. Nice. I'll remember that. [11:34] Hey, I heard there's an airport around here. Once I find it, I can finally escape from this crazy island. I'll see you. I'll see you. >> Hey, wait up. [12:02] which I mean, Steve's the worst. He's absolutely [ __ ] awful. He is an annoying immature brat, but he's kind of kid that's been thrown into this horrendous situation and gone through [12:15] some a really dark stuff the game will go into later. And yes, as a result of that, he kind of puts on this facade over the top of it. And I really don't in the remake. It's going to be fascinating to see whether they allow [12:27] him to keep being as annoying as he is in the base game. Still, bare minimum, I've now got a gun. And even more excitingly, I've got my first Resident Evil puzzle. Cuz yes, if we mosy to the big gate over here, there's a central [12:43] gate with a hawks picture carved into the hollow. So, okay, something's in always just going to be, you know, indents the shape of a chest piece or a you've got to go and get them to plug it in cuz that's the only way to get the [12:59] gate open. So, standard Resident Evil rules. Yeah, just to check your map, look for doors you can open and keep exploring till you find some variant of K on this occasion. Yeah, the door that was over here. That's the way that Steve [13:14] went. So, let's mosy in that direction and see what we can find because yes, so just a slightly prettier classic Resident Evil and that's going to change it very soon. So, yeah, we've got a door [13:29] locked here with a padlock. So yeah, nothing we can do with you. Once we do get the key though, we can open up a bit of a shortcut. Lovely. So all we've got is Yeah, for the time being, see one green herb. On top of that, we've got [13:44] ourselves a lovely flipping a door that lets us into this building right here, bypass. The coonica walls are fairly open in many ways. You can just not go [13:56] to some areas, but it is a good idea to explore thoroughly because yes, if we do just step inside here. Well, one, we've got some zombies. So, okay, hang on. Just take out you if we can. Four shots will put you down, buddy. Though you're [14:12] not quite dead yet. Let me get behind you. Yeah, zombies. Bit on the tough side. And excuse me, sir. Please get out of the way of the camera. That's very inconvenient of you. Reload. Put a few more bullets in you. If you can put [14:27] ground, I think that does do bonus damage as opposed to Yes. Waiting for them to get back up. Once again, the way Clare looks is very useful. Even if you can't see a zombie yourself in the event that CLA sees them, she will look at [14:41] you know, properly 3D modeled and whatnot means they can do some really cool stuff with lighting, which is delightful. No, this doesn't look too sophisticated, but back in 2000, this was really quite impressive. I mean, [14:54] honestly, it still looks pretty good today. There's some more ammo, by the way. So, yeah, unlike more recent Resident Evils, enemies don't drop ammunition, so fighting does mean you're losing ammo, but it is fairly on the [15:07] common side in many ways. Just check out the bathroom. Nothing in there. Don't the bathroom. Nothing in there. Don't worry about that. And Jess, just keep on keeping on because the snakes through me is really rather interesting because [15:21] one, we've still got the old school flipping Resident Evil, you know, fixed camera angles together with creepy ass sound design. The sound design of this game is amazing, by the way. But yes, CLA's head is indicating [15:35] there's something in here. However, when you aim the gun, she doesn't auto aim at something. So whatever it is, it's not actively a threat. Just one zombie currently not doing anything. That's a fine. With a quick [15:50] note everyone loves a good prisoner's diary that specifically warns us about. Yes, the boss of this place, a man called Alfred who's not a very nice called Alfred who's not a very nice person. And specifically, yes, if a [16:04] prisoner here was being used as a guinea pig for some sort of a Resident Evil experiment. So, okay, things have clearly gone a bit uh wrong here. Let's clearly gone a bit uh wrong here. Let's just keep on keeping on keep off an eye [16:18] just keep on keeping on keep off an eye out for, you know, zombies and whatnot. But more importantly, yes, we just head over here, over here, right, calm for now. I see you a random [16:32] corpse in the shower. just out of interest. Actually, given you guys are interest. Actually, given you guys are blatantly about to flipping wake up. Can I just like, you know, stab you? Nope, you're not awake just yet. [16:46] Instead, just head around towards the creepy ass window and just grab myself some bullets. Would you believe the moment I do? moment I do? So, here comes a zombie. But that zombie [17:01] has got some toys on him. So, you need to go down if we can put you down. There we go. Let's put some bullets into him. I think he's done properly. And jump, jump, jump, jump. There we flippy go. The M 100p pay. So, yeah, this is a [17:17] really interesting thing about Coonica, which is it's still survival horror. floating around in it than you might find in other Resident Evil games. The [17:29] trick being some guns, like your handgun, you'll just find ammo for them and you'll keep using it through the adventure. Others, like these little handguns here, once you use them, they gone forever. Like they're really good. [17:42] But yeah, they're one use only, then you're done. So on this occasion, we've and we're kind of trapped in here. So a pretty good time to crack those out. [17:54] Absolutely. So yeah, turn around back into this corner and then there we go. Just take out Excuse me. Take out you before anything happens, please. And then just point at you. You may notice, by the way, in just a second. [18:09] Okay, everybody's dead. So yeah, these guns are really good. That was 8% of guns are really good. That was 8% of that gun just gone forever. But yeah, if you're in a difficult situation, these could be really bloody useful. But they [18:22] also fill up a lot of liipping space in the old infantry. So yeah, possibly people might have chosen to use their hand gunner here instead. Hence why the game's given you a bit more ammo. So ammo is relatively plentiful. But yes, [18:36] there's also a relatively high number of zombies. So it kind of feels as a nice little bridge between old Resident Evil survival horror and more blasty modern survival horror and more blasty modern Resident Evil. And speaking of old [18:49] Resident Evil, if we just leave this building and not bothering with that guy to come back to this building. So, you don't like, you know, kill everything or anything. But yes, [19:02] as we step downstairs, just occasionally you'll go into the uh point of view of other enemies and things will just jump out at you. But because just like the famous, you know, corridor dogs of Resident Evil 1, I'm [19:19] sure that won't be a problem until, you know, some way down the line when I forget about it and then they'll cocky jump for the time being. Keep on keeping on cuz yeah, we've got a really bloody fun puzzle to solve now. Step one, just [19:34] fun puzzle to solve now. Step one, just mosy forwards. Excuse me. You're a basic zombie. So yeah, just a couple of shots in the arms, legs, etc., etc. Four bullets will take care of you. You dead now. Just watch for the jam to leak. If [19:51] they're leaking, jam, they're done. But yeah, handgun ammo is so common. If you can use your handgun, do. That's always going to be the better option. And also, we've got, yes, delightfully zombies just banging against the window. And [20:05] we've got more over here as well. We're going to be passing through this area a few times, so you may as well go down. Yeah, for the time being, we're just dealing with nice basic zombies here. Nothing too complicated. But yeah, aside [20:19] from the creepy banging zombies, we've got a switch here, which we can attempt to push, but it's currently locked. Need to release the lock first. So, we'll to release the lock first. So, we'll come back for you later. Just as I say, [20:32] through the next door. The first puzzle of the game. It's a pretty fun puzzle for, you know, this early in a Resident Evil game. So, if we step through this doorway here, >> please deposit any metallic items you [20:45] have in the security box. >> So, okay, we're not allowed to take anything metallic forwards. And if I attempt to do so, [20:59] there we go. The area locks down. And now I can't go any further. So, nip back to the metal detector right here. Just reset the room. Just quickly hit this button. Lovely. And this time, drop everything in the [21:14] box as it was suggesting. >> This unfortunately does mean every single one of my weapons. Though, I can at least keep Yes, my healing items. That's nice. With those in a hand, I am now allowed to proceed past a window [21:29] with zombies on the other side, obviously. So, yeah, as long as I'm on this side of that corridor, I don't have any weapons with me, though. Nicely in the same room. Yeah, I've got some lovely, lovely ammunition for a weapon I [21:46] do not yet have. But down the line when we do have a grenade launcher, these are going to be very, very bloody useful. On top of that, if we just mosey around the corner here. Yeah, there we go. Flipping first aid spray right there. I see you. [22:03] So, just grab you as well. And what machine we're going to be needing. It's machine we're going to be needing. It's a 3D printer. So, step one, scan an object. And two, insert material that you can use to replicate it. Now, right [22:18] now, we've got neither of those things. So, let's not worry about that. Just just keep on keeping on into the control room here where we can catch up with our best of friend Steve. It's been a while since I played this game, but I find the [22:31] opening is just, you know, a really lovely classic. And uh once again, just lovely classic. And uh once again, just the typing in the distance, sound design the typing in the distance, sound design so good in Co Veronica. And here we go. [22:45] One note here. a visitor to the prison, Carl Gisham, who is carrying a product sample from Metal Industries, which might just be what we need to make that 3D printer work. So, he'll be using a transportation truck, and the sample [23:01] will be stored in a briefcase. Miracle, we've seen a briefcase already, right by where we started. It fell out of that exploding truck right by the prison. still around the corner. As I was saying, we need to catch up with Steve [23:15] here. >> Chris Redfield, [23:30] yours or something? >> You mean my brother? Ah, >> You mean my brother? Ah, your siblings. [23:43] surveillance by umbrella. >> What? [23:55] monitored. It's a good thing I have access to an It's a good thing I have access to an outside connection from here. Well, that file shows the latitude and longitude of this place. [24:11] coordinates and ask him to come help? >> Thanks. I'll do that. >> Thanks. I'll do that. >> Hey, I was just kidding. [24:23] if he is your brother. >> Yes, he can. I'm sure of it. He won't come. [24:36] rely on others. rely on others. Believe me, I know. [24:48] >> Tragic backstory, Claire. It's always a cookie tragic backstory. Anyway, that gets us a lovely save point here. But also the terminal that Flipping Steve was just tinkering with. That's the lock release for yes, that [25:03] garage door we passed outside. Though, unfortunately, we can't go any further in this direction because some are blocking the door. So, yes, we'll need blocking the door. So, yes, we'll need to loop back around here later. And most [25:15] importantly, if we just yes tinker with the desk here, we've got the Hawk emblem. Problem being, as you're probably anticipating, yeah, it's made out of metal for the time being. it just so we're not like, you know, carrying it [25:30] around, etc., etc. Moj over to the 3D printer. And there we go. Just pop in. There's some mcjibble that gets scanned. But right now, we can't print it. We don't have the right materials cuz obviously we need a version of this we [25:45] can take through the metal detector. So, back outside because back outside because one just check reaction to everything right now. No one's out here. Hang on. Turn around. [25:59] Turn around. Check. Nope. Everyone's still in there. But if we crack you open. Yeah, that's now available to open up. Would you believe there are zombies in there on top of that? Hang on. Hang on. [26:14] I see one flipping. Right, I've taken out a couple of zombies. Hopefully you guys are now properly dead so I could just take some pot chops at you. Yeah, That's Cody Cla's thing in this game. She's very bloody good. Just blowing up [26:30] people with explosive canisters. You just stay down, CL. Okay, reload. This going to be passing back through here, so it is probably best to deal with you guys. Don't forget, of course, that van [26:44] we passed previously. It was on fire, so we're going to be needing the fire extinguisher. On top of that, following their highly dramatic escape, yes, we can discover there was a flipping guillotine right here inside this cell. [26:59] recall we saw a padlock earlier. So yeah, we're now retracing our steps back to the prison. Though under the circumstances, I'm going to get out the good guns because yeah, these are fast firing guns. [27:15] There's definitely dogs around here somewhere. Wait. Aha. Right. Just No. No. Don't. Just aim bloody hell. There's more of them. Right. Okay. Now I'm a bit wounded now. [27:30] Wait for you to come at me. Dogs in this game are not so bad. They kind of Yeah, game are not so bad. They kind of Yeah, they stay down. Excuse me. Get close. Aim down. Yeah. A single shot knocks them down. And then Excuse me. Would you [27:43] mind? Oh, I'm not a good angle. Right. Knock him down. Yeah, if you hit a dog, it falls over staggered, so it's not so bad to deal with. That was Yeah. Fair bit of ammo wasted. And I'll do a basic greener [27:59] herb, if only because I wouldn't mind. Yeah. Having a little bit more in the way of counting dogs hurt a bit more than a basic graveyard zombies. Still keep on keeping on cuz Yeah, we can also clear something else out of the infantry [28:14] momentarily around this side. There was the padlock. So, use the key and then obviously we could just toss that away. So, I've now got a shortcut. There we go. Lovely. Now, unfortunately, Resident Evil being a Resident Evil. [28:30] Evil being a Resident Evil. Yeah, new zombies will be appearing if CLA can warn you about this. No. Bloody hell. I was hoping to just go straight past you. There was a second one. Right. Ignore you guys. You're just basic [28:42] weakest of the weaks. They've only just crawled out of the grounds. So yeah, go back cover to conventional handgun if we can. We only need to get past you and we will be coming back potentially later. So [28:57] excuse me mate. You just get down. It's open. Listen for how close they are. Not so bad so far. Hello over there guys. Don't mind me. Hopefully four bullets [29:09] will take care of you. Five actually. And then Right. You're dead. There's the a friend. I think we may have to go over to the good gun, unfortunately. That is [29:21] literally all I've got for you. So, right, that's fine. Save the good gun if right, that's fine. Save the good gun if you stay the [ __ ] down. Thank you. Right, there's also you. I might just be able to just straight up [29:37] walk up behind you, put the fire out, then leave. So yeah, there we go. Fire goes away. Grab a briefcase [29:49] we go. Honestly, I think we might just leave that guy be. That's fine. There's no need to like, you know, waste ammo on useless graveyard zombies that aren't even in the way. Naturally, this being a briefcase and this being Resident Evil. [30:03] Examine it. There's a button. Push it. There we go. There's the flipping material we need together with a note saying that this is yes specifically anti-metal detection alloy. So, you know, that's pretty bloody relevant to [30:17] know, that's pretty bloody relevant to me. So, just spin around ahead onwards. No need to check in with that other guy. He's still like, you know, dying from lack of medicine or whatnot. So, right on we flipping go back to where we were [30:31] on we flipping go back to where we were back to the 3D printer. insert 3D printing material into 3D printer in just a moment. There we go. We're going to have a replica of that lovely Hawkcraft. [30:46] Hawkcraft. Spot on. So, obviously the moment we've done that, things get a bit nasty in here. So, no, no, no. Get. Okay, just on a bit. If we could knock over that other guy, too, that would be Never [31:00] guy, too. I've literally got no weapons right now. Leave me alone. Please leave me. Leave me. Leave me alone. Woke around you a zombie. So I No, just [snorts] got away from you. Grab everything. But yeah, no need to [31:14] actually kill these guys and make sure we actually get all of this on the way past. I do need my guns, etc., etc. Though honestly, I may just leave the knife behind anyway. Like in this game, ammo is relatively common. I don't feel [31:28] like we need the combat knife. So, right now we just mosy on our way. But yeah, as we go back into the room where we can insert the hawk crash to just be ready cuz I'm pretty sure more zombies are going to have spawned in here. So, if we [31:43] can just work around them without wasting the ammunition, that would be great. Just get around the back here for you. No. Okay, just push you back ideally. Yep. That's knocked over your friend too. How we doing by the way? [31:57] Still in basic caution. So, right, insert crest into door opens. And there we go. That's kind of like, you know, the tutorial done. And this is where the [32:09] game gets very interesting because Cover Veronica is a surprisingly open game next to basically every other Resident Evil. You're not just looking for the open door that leads you to the chest piece that lets you finish the chest [32:22] game, that lets you get to the crocodile key so you can open the reptile door, etc., etc. There are genuinely some big choices about where you want to go. Oh, and naturally, it wouldn't be a Resident Evil game if just occasionally you [32:35] didn't need to push a box around. So, yeah, the old classics are still very much here. Push box over fire, climb on top of box to get around fire, etc., etc. And that brings me up here to the clifftop. And excuse me, we're going to [32:51] be passing through here a lot, so you do need to die, my friend. Like how his helmet flies off. That's delightful. So, you could just go down, please. I'm pretty sure you're Yeah, you're proper dead. Hello over there. You could just [33:04] die, too. But yes, at this point, we genuinely have a choice as to where to go next. If I choose to go Yeah. right in this direction, we can cut through this door to get to the military academy, which, as you might expect from [33:17] the name, is a good spot to go weapon hunting. We can pick up a brand new weapon straight away. However, there's no safe room in the military academy. So, I can't save. There's no item box. So, any items I've got that I want to [33:33] store, there's nothing I can do. Also, hello over there. Excuse me. Please just die. Personally, I've got a preference for Yeah. heading to the military academy first cuz as I say, we need to go to both locations, both here and the [33:46] go to both locations, both here and the palace up ahead sooner or later. See, may as well be properly armed first, though. Hang on. We've also got dogs, right? Stay down. Just wait for them to get [33:59] close, then knock them down. Three shots to do the job. Pretty sure there's one more round the corner, too. So, just wait for you and go and then No, no, no. Face the other way. Down you [34:14] go. Lovely. But more importantly, hang on, hang on. We've got ourselves bow gun arrows. That might give you a bit of a hint as to yes why I actually uh came this way. It might just be a little bit interested in our forementioned bow gun. [34:30] So yeah, just come to the military academy. academy. I don't hear any zombies. You know what? There's a red herb right there. I grab you just to merge you with [34:44] greener herbs to make a fuller healing item. Not bad. So, okay. Head upstairs. And that's my first destination. At least I think it is. Veronica, but I'm pretty confident this is where I want to go. So, right door [35:01] with no doorork knob. Classic Resident Evil are right there. Mosy onwards, however, to Yeah, I think this is a lab upstairs in the military academy. [35:13] upstairs in the military academy. Is this where I want to be? Yes, this looks about right cuz I see over here. Just grab that. Earth flipping a bow gun. Also, a note about a fourdigit code. Obviously, in the event you forget [35:29] the code, the red human skeleton picture at the back of the bolab. Yeah, look at at the back of the bolab. Yeah, look at that. That's a number we might need. [35:58] I can't get the door open. [music] There's something very, very nasty located in the bioexam room. And also, [36:11] yes, that flipping skeleton. Hilariously, it does say I can't see the number from here, but that was presumably on the assumption that this was being played unlike, you know, flipping old CT monitors, so it would be [36:24] a bit blurry. I'm moderately confident that that says 1126. Like, I could see it cuz I'm playing in the sci-fi future where we could just emulate games at higher resolution. Damn it. Okay, luckily the game's one step ahead of me [36:37] actually enter the number anyway because for the time being, something's wrong in the room. >> Biohazard contamination detected. Level three. Emergency shutters will close. All personnel, evacuate immediately. [37:05] >> So, okay. For the time being, we're not going back to that room. Not until I find the right key card. Anyway, the point is, I've got a bow gun. And don't [37:17] appears to be a crossbow. Maybe it's part gun, part crossbow, as you probably would expect. Yes, it fires arrows that make a pleasing a funk noise when they hit surfaces. And yes, if he just moss you a bit deeper into the military base [37:31] here. This is not like, you know, the best gun in the game, would you believe? You can put quite a few arrows into something before it goes down. But bare minimum, yes, it does fire surprisingly bloody quickly. When you find bundles of [37:46] ammo, tends to be in like, you know, lots of 30 or whatnot. So, that at least is good. Be even basic zombies take quite a few bloody arrows to put down [37:59] for goods. And going into this area, just quickly reload you, by the way. You go up to 39 actually. Lovely. Yeah, we do have a bit of an issue which is now [38:11] we're in the uh military base and whatnot. There are some slightly tougher enemies. Military guys who tend to take a little bit more in the way of ammo to put down in my experience. So, keep firing. [38:26] You properly dead. Good. You're properly dead. Excellent. Well done. So yeah, the bow gun is nice and flipping, you know, easy to use. Ammo is pretty plentiful. [38:38] We can make it a little bit better yet. Just uh head over here into the Just uh head over here into the bathroom, etc., etc. And excuse me, none of that random zombie. Stay down. He was just enjoying a nice little, you know, [38:52] day in the sauna. Absolutely wonderful. Yeah. If we just go in the bathroom here, clear out the locals, etc., etc. These are basic and naked moldy zombies, so they're not so bad at all. This could get us inside the lovely swimming pool [39:07] get us inside the lovely swimming pool here. Okay, then just take Yeah, that key back to the first hallway. One more door we can go through. And seriously, to come here. I could have gone somewhere else entirely. We'll need to [39:21] come here eventually. Yeah, you can come here nice and early. Ignore you. I don't here nice and early. Ignore you. I don't trust you. Excuse me. I thought you trust you. Excuse me. I thought you weren't cocky dead. Stay the [ __ ] down, [39:36] you stupid bow guns. Bit on the tricky side, right? There's definitely going to be a review of you, right? Did I just hit George? I hit a wall. It's hard to bloody say. Where's Oh, I see you military guy. Just [39:49] put like, you know, 10 or so. Yep. There we go. And that's fine. I'll probably just kick him. Would have preferred a nice stomp, but I guess a kick will do. But yeah, just finish off the last of these guys in here for a second. And I [40:04] said finish off the last of these guys for a second. Good. I'm pretty sure you're dead. And that gets me. Yes. The cupboard this key is used for. And the bow gun, which was already pretty bloody good, is about to get a lot more [40:19] good, is about to get a lot more interesting cuz that gets me bow gun powder. So, just combine that with some arrows and all of a sudden I've got 10 arrows and all of a sudden I've got 10 explosive arrows. I like the bow gun and [40:33] like you can't just come and get it this early in the game. It's great. Anyway, back to where we first arrived. If we wanted to, we could have just mosied straight over in this direction the moment we got here and not done any of [40:46] that. And that would have got us straight through here to yes, the absolutely gorgeous palace area. But now I am here. I'm significantly better I am here. I'm significantly better armed though. That's a dog. Dog means [40:58] these guns cuz these guns are very good at dealing with dogs. So, no, no, no. Oh, CLA, you've messed us up. Right, just bring you down. You may, by the way, in the event of multiple enemies, CLA aims at each gun at one of them. She [41:14] genuinely targets multiple enemies at once with two ant weapons. But, okay, now there's only one. Move forward. Take you down. forward. Take you down. dead. Right. That's the local dogs. Dad. [41:27] Oh, no. Hang on. No, the dogs. The dogs are not dead. Get up to you. Bring you down, buddy. Sorry, there was a third dog. And yes, there is also crucially a glowy thing over here. Everyone likes a glowy thing. [41:43] And who could have predicted it? It's the navy proof. So yes, once again, the navy proof. So yes, once again, bloody resident evil door puzzles. That does however leave me, yeah, full up for the time being. So right, [41:55] let's head into yeah, the palace proper. Though once again, I could just keep on more bits and pieces. Yeah, I think at this point we really do actually need a flipping uh, you know, save room with an item box cuz that was the thing at this [42:09] item box cuz that was the thing at this point in the franchise. So in we go in chess. We've now made it into the first like, you know, sort of a mansiony area of the game. For the time being though, yeah, a fair few doors that are [42:23] locked, etc. And if I want them open, I just head to Yeah, the terminal around the back of the reception here. Enter an employee ID to activate the unlocking device. So, yes, unfortunately, right now, I don't actually know any ID [42:39] numbers, but that's fine. We'll get back to that in just a second. Instead, for to that in just a second. Instead, for the time being, yeah, just moy upstairs. So, I'm pretty sure we're now right on the cusp of yes, my first proper little [42:56] safe room here. My brain is telling me it's over here. Please be a safe room, not like full of zombies. That looks like a safe room to me. Spot on. So, right, few things we don't need like an empty fire extinguisher and a navy [43:11] proof, etc., etc. Plus, on top of that, we can save at this point. Beautiful. And most important of all, I'm pretty sure, yeah, around the corner here. We [43:24] sure, yeah, around the corner here. We just push this lovely little cabinet out just push this lovely little cabinet out of the way and gets me one thing. I of the way and gets me one thing. I definitely need an employee ID card of [43:36] definitely need an employee ID card of some description and a door with two golden guning damps. So, yes, right now we can't get in there. Oh, Resident Evil Doors, I do love you. The ID card, meanwhile, yeah, [43:51] love you. The ID card, meanwhile, yeah, gives me the code I need downstairs. NTC 0394. So, just enter that nice and quick on this nightmare keyboard designed by [44:04] Satan. And there we go. A whole bunch of doors just opened. I will admit though the wonders advantage to going to get the bow gun early is you do end up a little bit uh full up with ammo, guns, etc., etc. That however is something [44:20] just heading through one of the doors that just unlocked that we can sort out that just unlocked that we can sort out pretty bloody soon. So, excuse me. Naf pretty bloody soon. So, excuse me. Naf off. So, right, see you guys there. Just [44:32] take you out, please. Lovely. I've already got one stack of flipping and more because the stacks are pretty generous here. So, okay, I hear you. Spot on. [44:46] Okay, these guns have served me well, but bless them. They're almost running incentive to use these guns while you've got them. For the simple reason, yes, eventually you will want to just start dumping them back in the flipping chest [45:00] cuz they do fill up a lot of space still. Silver Crest if we want to be going in that direction. Hang on. Pretty sure. Yep. There's someone else [45:13] there. Cla saw it before I did. So, right. Just uh take you out, buddy. You dead? Yep. I see the blood spreading. And a gold crest. So, right. [45:25] Plenty more doors we can't open yet. There's one at the end, though. I think this is quite an important room. Here we go. Alfred's a flipping a room of military memorabilia. More importantly though, yes, an ant. [45:43] Ants are going to be very important in this game. So, yes, just give the little this game. So, yes, just give the little button under the ant a quick push here button under the ant a quick push here and that starts something playing. [45:58] and that starts something playing. [music] [46:43] all of Resident Evil to my mind. Like that is a creepy ass scene. Still, that has opened up, you know, a nice secret passage. Everybody loves a secret passage. Yes. Once again, we've got more flipping [46:58] guns and military bits and pieces. But most importantly, we've got those two gold guns we need. However, if we do try and [47:12] I need two spots for those, don't I? I'll be right back. On the way past, flipping wooden wheel here. I'm going to grab this. On the way past, toe, [screaming] help me, [47:27] >> Never mind. On my way to sorting out my infantry, Steve ran into some flipping trouble. Okay, so this is cooking hilarious, which is Yes. Basically, those guns are a trap which you're supposed to discover for yourself and [47:42] then Steve walks into it later. But because I didn't have space for the guns in my inventory, yes, Steve just went for them anyway because yes, when you actually do grab those guns, the room starts like heating up. Steve is [47:56] suffering. You know what? Screw it. Let him suffer is annoying. But yes, what you do if you fall into the trap is put the guns back. Now, as a result, the room goes back to normal. Steve's not willing to do that. He's decided he [48:09] wants the guns. So, instead, we need to get Steve out. So, a message on the panel. When two pairs complete, my anger will subside. So, all right. Various switches, there's a battleship, there's an ant, etc., etc. Basically, all this [48:26] means is yes, find the pairs around this room. Jeff, you do just mosy around the room here. Lots of stuff is not in pairs. The things in pairs are actually pairs. The things in pairs are actually Yes, the handguns. I think those magnums [48:40] over here as well. Yeah, it's just two magnums, two handguns. Everything else magnums, two handguns. Everything else is one or like loads. So C and E is the correct response. And with that, we can get Steve a Frey. [48:59] That was too close. What took you so long? >> Oh, I need those. Give them to me. [49:14] >> Fine. Well, let's make a deal. I'll trade you for something fully automatic. [49:36] >> So, right, he's gone and stolen the bloody guns I need. Meaning my next objective is Yes. Find something I could trade to Steve. still got a full infantry. I didn't make it back to the room before, you know, [49:50] Steve started screaming for help and whatnot. And yeah, with no other keys, I do. We're here in the palace for now. Aside of course from run straight into Aside of course from run straight into even more trouble. [50:12] operation? >> What are you talking about? >> You let yourself be captured so you could lead your people to this base. >> I have no idea what you're babbling about. [50:26] You don't fool me. >> I am Alfred Ashford, commander of this base. >> Oh, you must be one of Umbrella's lower [50:38] level officers if you're in command of a backwater base like this one. backwater base like this one. >> How dare you? [50:50] >> The Ashford family is among the world's first and finest. My grandfather is one of the original founders of Umbrella Inc. [51:11] Now tell me, why have you attacked this installation? >> Shortly after you arrived, my base was attacked. You must have informed your [51:23] people of its location. >> I still don't follow you. I really don't know anything about that. >> Unacceptable. >> Unacceptable. How can you deny it? My base has been [51:37] destroyed. And thanks to you, the experimental T- virus was released, experimental T- virus was released, creating countless zombies and monsters. [51:55] Tell me, who do you work for? Who sent you? Have it your way, then. You're just a rat in a cage anyway. [52:07] I'll be sure to keep you entertained before I dispose of you. [52:22] Anyway, he's gone now, but yes, we're going to be having some fun with him over the course of the game. Still, with our business, yes, in the palace and also the military academy pretty much as done as it can be for the time being. [52:35] There's only one more place we can go. And yeah, now I've got that little wheel And yeah, now I've got that little wheel we grabbed from that room with all of Alfred's military toys and whatnot. Yeah, just head down here and this time [52:49] Yeah, just head down here and this time moy over to the right cuz that gets me down to the docks. And I'm pretty sure, hang on, if I just turn back on myself here. There we go. There's some ammo and also a new map. Every bitty loves a map. [53:05] But much more importantly, over in this direction. Oh, do I actually have space for No, not the rust materials. the flipping. No, I'm kind of out of storage capacity for everything, but that's fine because [53:19] yes, obviously this panel here that really flipping wants me to plug that really flipping wants me to plug that wheel onto it. If we do such a thing and wheel onto it. If we do such a thing and then give it a spin, then yes, something [53:31] really rather bloody delightful happens. We summon a cocking submarine. I love Code Veronica. Cover is deeply silly and over the top and slightly hammy, which I think does lead into, yes, Resident Evil 4 very nicely. [53:47] Anyway, down into the submarine, cuz yes, at this point, broadly, we're looking for new keys. But most importantly, a side pack. So, all of a [53:59] importantly, a side pack. So, all of a sudden, I could carry a lot more items, sudden, I could carry a lot more items, and that's bloody better. Damn it. The way. You can just, you know, pilot the submarine because why not? Let's just, [54:12] you know, take the submarine for a quick spin down to the bottom of the ocean. spin down to the bottom of the ocean. Getting me to Alfred's secret underwater Getting me to Alfred's secret underwater base because, okay, got to say he's got [54:25] base because, okay, got to say he's got style. So, keep on keeping on. Just mosy this direction. As I was saying, I kind of just want to use up my flipping Yeah. gun right now because Hello over there. Also, hang on. Can we just No, you're [54:38] just focusing on that guy right now. Damn it. I was hoping you were going to like, you know, aim at multiple targets. Be decided to get it. There we go. Multiple targets. There's more than one target. She'll go for multiple targets. [54:51] she'll focus entirely on the one remaining one who's alive. Such a badass thing right there. When dual guns, you know, split the targeting between two separate targets. That's lovely. Now, there's a couple of ways we can go in [55:06] this underwater base, but yeah, the point is, I think, hang on. If we were point is, I think, hang on. If we were to go this way, like on the left first, to go this way, like on the left first, well, one, there's a bats here. So, [55:19] well, one, there's a bats here. So, okay, hang on. If we just stay Oh, I've just done something new about this game, which is, yeah, long as I'm walking, the bats don't seem to be responding to me. If I were to run, yeah, then they [55:31] activate, right? They don't respond to walking. However, bats are also scared of light. So, if I just keep my light out, they'll keep their distance. like, you know, T- virus bats or whatnot. But yeah, the point is just [55:48] power this device for a second. And this here is yes, a big old watery air strip. there. But there's nothing we can do with that for some time. Meanwhile, back [56:01] in the fish tank here. And hang on. There's some free ammo. Don't turn down a free ammo, John. Especially as Yeah, you're almost done with your lovely sexy free gun. But yeah, the other path let you see the plane a lot more clearly. [56:19] Nothing we can do with you for now, though. So, yeah, just keep on keeping on cuz I'm pretty sure over on this side, here we go. I see some glinting down bottom. So, we just need to Yeah. Get down [56:36] So, we just need to Yeah. Get down there. Hang on. Hang on. Control panel. K402. Don't have that key. So, yet again, more cocking keys. Check the room before you hop into any like, you know, lifts or [56:49] anything. John, you never know when there's going to be Aha. I see something I should be able to interact with, but I can't get it here to just yet. can't get it here to just yet. So yeah, now you over here. Take the [57:02] lift up top because Okay, once again, it wouldn't be a Resident Evil game if there wasn't a crane puzzle at some points. So yeah, we know what we need to get out of the way. [57:15] That big box blocking access to the blue panel because blue generally means CL can interact with it. Right, that looks about right. Grab you. Move you out the [57:27] about right. Grab you. Move you out the way. Spot on. Right back down over here. But this time, yeah, now we can actually bring the loading lift up, though. Power levels. Give it a go anyway. [57:43] Okay, it does seem to be coming up. I'm hearing worring friends. Right. Okay, hang on. Hang on. We just need to deal with Yes. this nonsense and clam going to suggest you [57:57] start cooking running and get some space between Yeah, me and them. Go over to the good guns here. Yeah, this feels like an excellent place to can't bloody see from over there. Right, let's just basically start shooting all of you guys [58:12] so I can shoot multiple of you at the same time because why not? There you go. Two down at the same time right there. Beautiful. And rest in peace, friend. You served me very, very well indeed. Right over to the basic pistol for the [58:28] Right over to the basic pistol for the rest of you stupid losers. And there we rest of you stupid losers. And there we go. Music calms down. Everybody's dead. go. Music calms down. Everybody's dead. Help myself to a beautiful. Hang on. [58:40] Yep. Some more bow gunner. I just love the word bow gunner. Bow gun. Such a silly word. But most importantly, a silver biohazard card. So yes, now we could actually make some progress back [58:53] over in the military base. Still, I would say having explored a whole bunch of early game areas. Uh, how about we wrap things up there? This here is Resident Evil Coonica. And honestly, I do think this is a brilliant Resident [59:08] Evil game. And I think it's deeply weird that Capcom has never made debatable to purchase on PC. like you cannot buy this game right now. I live in hope that before yes, Resvil Veronica the remake comes out next year or whatnot, they [59:23] will make this game available on Steam, too. But as for me, I'm having a lovely of this next week in a live stream or whatnot. So, uh, yes indeed. As I say, a bit more to come next Thursday. So, [59:36] hopefully you join me for that. But in the meantime, I John has been many a true nerd and this has been the wonderful Res to Evil and Code Veronica. wonderful Res to Evil and Code Veronica. Thank you very much and goodbye. [59:51] FLAMETHROWER. FLAMETHROWER. FLAMETHROWER. OKAY, so this is this is definitely morally questionable. [01:00:04] At the point where you start singing the flamethrower song, potentially you've flamethrower song, potentially you've gone over the
