# How to Grow on YouTube with the New Algorithm Changes

> Source: [How to Grow on YouTube with the New Algorithm Changes](https://youtube.com/watch?v=7sxAi_aYRiI)

## Summary

The video discusses recent changes to YouTube's algorithm that content creators should adapt to in order to grow their channels and get monetized faster. It highlights four key changes: the algorithm now supports multi-niche content, improved A/B testing features, the importance of targeting trending topics, and new settings and Shorts placements that can boost visibility.

### Key Points

- **YouTube Algorithm Shift** [00:00] — YouTube released a new algorithm that changes content creation and upload timing, making it easier for creators to grow if they adapt.
- **Multi-Niche Support** [00:25] — YouTube now allows posting content across different niches on the same channel, a shift from the previous 18 months of niche-specific encouragement.
- **View Determinants** [00:40] — Views are determined by click-through rate, watch time, and topic interest. Example: YouTube algorithm videos get more views than TikTok or Instagram algorithm videos due to higher interest.
- **A/B Testing Upgrade** [02:02] — YouTube upgraded its A/B testing feature, allowing creators to test titles, thumbnails, or both. Recommendation: test only one element at a time for focused results.
- **A/B Test Process** [03:14] — Run A/B tests for about a week, then review results. Example: a title test showed a 33% improvement in watch time share, leading to better performance.
- **Topic Demand Analysis** [04:23] — Use tools like vidIQ's Chrome extension to check views per hour for topics. Look for upward trends to find growing topics with high interest.
- **vidIQ Tool Usage** [05:00] — vidIQ shows views per hour charts, top channels, related keywords, and search volume, helping creators decide what to post about.
- **Upload Settings Optimization** [07:58] — Adjust language settings to avoid showing content to audiences with low watch time (e.g., unpublish Hindi if India views hurt retention). Ensure 'Not Made for Kids' is checked, enable automatic chapters, featured places, and concepts.
- **Shorts Opportunities** [10:04] — YouTube Shorts now appear in more placements (homepage, search), offering higher view potential than long-form for some topics. Example: Shorts on 'Instagram algorithm' got 250k-1M views vs 6k-80k for long-form.
- **Funneling Shorts Traffic** [12:13] — Creators can use related videos to funnel Shorts traffic to long-form content, increasing overall views and subscribers.

### Conclusion

Adapting to YouTube's algorithm changes—embracing multi-niche content, leveraging A/B testing, targeting trending topics, optimizing settings, and utilizing Shorts—can significantly boost channel growth and monetization speed.

## Transcript

YouTube just released a brand new algorithm that completely changes what kind of content you should be creating, when you should be uploading on YouTube, and so much more. And all you have to do is adapt to these changes, and it's easier than ever before for you to grow on YouTube.
In fact, these changes just help this creator, this creator, and this creator get monetized in YouTube in a pretty short period of time, and if you want those results too, you need to make sure that you don't skip any part of this video.
Change number one is that YouTube's algorithm now allows you to post in several different nations on the same channel on YouTube. So like the last 18 months, YouTube wasn't really encouraging this, but in the last few weeks, I've noticed a huge shift inside of their algorithm where they're now willing
to push out content that isn't just niche specific to your channel. YouTube used to be like this in the past. They changed for a little bit and now they're back to being this way. And essentially what this really means is that what is going to determine how many views
you get. It's going to be three things. One, how many people click on your video when they actually see it. Two, how long people watch our content for. And then three, most importantly, how many people are actually interested in that topic that you are going to be posting about. For example,
let's say that I was uploading a video about YouTube's algorithm, Instagram's algorithm, and TikTok's algorithm. My video about YouTube's algorithm would get the most views. My videos about TikTok's algorithm would get the second most views. My video about Instagram's algorithm
would get the third most views. That has nothing to do with the quality of content that I'm creating, and it has everything to do with more people are interested in growing on YouTube than are interested in growing on TikTok, and more people are interested in growing on TikTok
than are interested in growing on Instagram. So what you ideally want to make sure that you're doing is you want to make sure that you're talking about all the topics that you want to talk about or that your audience is interested in, but really where you should be spending the majority of your time
is on whatever topic the most people are interested in, because this is going to allow you to get the most views, this is going to allow you to get the most subscribers, and this is really going to allow you to get monetized on YouTube quicker because you'll be going after a way bigger slice of the pie.
At the end of the day, at a lot of times, it doesn't come down to what you actually do in your content. It simply comes down to what your content is actually about. Change number two is you need to make sure that you're leveraging the A-B test feature more than ever before,
because YouTube has now changed its feature. they have upgraded this feature and they've made it way better. Let me show you what I mean. Okay, so here's what I'm talking about. So now if we actually come over here and let's say that we click into a video, we're going to see A-B testing right here. If we click into this, we could see
that there are three different ways that we could actually do this. We could A-B test, which is titles. We could A-B test, which is thumbnails. We could A-B test with titles and thumbnails. Now, I would strongly recommend that you never A-B test with title and thumbnail because when
you do that you are going to be testing way too many things. Instead you want your test to be way more focused which is why I would recommend if you think that you could have chosen a better title you should A-B test the different titles
that you are actually setting right here. If you think that you could have done a better thumbnail you should A-B test the different thumbnails that you have here. And ideally what you should be doing is any video that you do that underperforms you should go ahead and you should create new titles you should create new thumbnails and you should go through an A test piece
Now, when you run an A-B test, you're going to let it run for about a week, and then what this is going to do is actually show you the results. So if we come and click over into here, we can see all the different A-B tests that I have running right now that are live because both of these videos underperformed right here.
If we come over to my other channel, we can see that I have even more AAB tests live. For example, if we come over into this video, we can see that we have one that's live. We can see the test report right here. And look at how much bigger of a difference this made right here.
All AAB tested here was the title. Like I was telling you, we have these three different titles. And this one had a 39% watch time share. This one had 29. This one had 30. So this video was literally 33% better than these two.
Well, not the actual video, but just the title. which is really why this matters. And then this is now going to choose, it's going to make it visible to all the viewers, and then as a result, this video is actually going to perform better than it would have had I not tested all these different titles.
This is something that you should be going through, and you should be doing with literally every single video that you publish, that underperforms. I would just start with that, and then from there, if you want to do it for all of your videos,
knock yourself out, but it is a little bit time-consuming. Change number three is you need to make sure that you understand how many people are actually looking for whatever you are going to be posting about. Back to what I said in number one, this is really going to be the metric that you want to look at
in order to determine, hey, are people interested in this thing today? Because you don't want to post about topics that people were interested in 10 years ago, a year ago, six months ago, even a week ago.
You want to be going after topics that are growing because what this means is that there's a huge opportunity for small channels to get views on those topics. It's actually easier than before for you to be able to determine this.
Now, by far, the easiest way for you to be able to figure this out is going to be using vidIQ's Chrome extension, because this actually transforms your YouTube. Let's say that we come over here. We type in something like quadcode. If you're using vidIQ's Chrome extension, you're then going to have this on the right-hand side.
And this chart right here is literally exactly what you want to see. We see this going up and to the right. What that means is that you have a wave under the search term or under this topic,
and then a ton of different people are interested in it. And if you want to be successful on YouTube, you need to be good at finding waves and writing waves. So literally all I would be spending my time on if I was a brand new YouTuber is finding topics
that have a views per hour chart that actually goes like this. And if we come down here, this will then actually show us all the top channels for this term right here. In addition, if we scroll down even more, it will show us all the different related keywords.
And if we actually click into one of these, this will show us even more. And we can actually click into it even more. And this will show us the exact search volume here, what is actually working right here. It will show us what videos are actually trending under here, what questions, what competing videos there are.
And this makes it incredibly easy for you to be able to make a decision on hey I think this is what I want to actually post about right here In addition to that if we come back over here and we come down here we could see all these different channels and how many views they actually gotten under this term
or we could come over here and filter this in different ways, like if we just wanted to see this based on subscribers. Now, what you don't want to happen is, let's say we come over here and we type in something like Instagram algorithm.
What you do not want to see is what we're going to see right here, which is that views per hour over time, there's not enough search data available to actually be able to display this because what this means is there's just simply not enough people searching for this
and that if you make a video on this topic, more likely than not, you are just going to be wasting your time. So make sure that you have this, that you are using it, that you're doing these searches and that you're spending your time doing this because investing your time in the wrong video is a waste of time
and instead, you should be investing in topics that are going up and to the right with their views per hour. Now, the best part about vidIQ is that you can go to the pinned comment below, and you can get started with it today for only $1. This tool is an absolute no-brainer.
It helped me get over 900,000 subscribers on this channel, almost 100,000 subscribers on this channel, and it has been my secret weapon that I've used in order to always stay ahead of what you guys, the audience, actually want to see.
And this is going to allow you to do the same exact thing for your audience, and at the end of the day, if you're not using this tool, your competitors are, and that's why they're outgrowing you. So don't let $1 be the difference between you getting the success that you want on YouTube
versus you continuing to struggle simply because you're not using the right tools. Change number four is you need to make sure you have the right settings when you go to post on YouTube. And you need to make sure that you're actually tracking this to make sure that it's not messed up before you go ahead and post.
Let me explain. Now, in terms of those actual settings that you need to make sure you're getting correct, I want to go through them for you. So, first and foremost, languages right here. You need to make sure that you do not have languages turned on that are actually going to be hurting your views.
The way that you're going to figure this out is if you come over into your analytics right here, you come over into advanced mode. If we come up here over into breakdown, we could see geography, and this is going to show us where our views are coming from and who is hurting us.
For example, we could see under here, India gave me 900 views with a 1 minute 51 second average reiteration, which is way lower than the UK and the US or even Canada, which is really where I want to get my views from.
So what I might then want to do is come over here into my languages, and we can see that Hindi is published right here. I might want to come in here and unpublish both of these to decrease the odds that my content gets shown to people in India
because they might be actually hurting my reach. Now, the other thing that I want to make sure that I do is if I come over into details right here, and we scroll down a little bit, we want to make sure that No It's Not Made For Kids is checked.
If we scroll down a little bit more, we want to make sure that Automatic Chapters is turned on, Featured Places is turned on, Automatic Concepts is turned on. We scroll down even more. We want to make sure Allow Betting is turned on Shorts Remixing Allow It both for video and audio You want to make sure that you up the right category right here and you want to make sure that your subscribers aren hurting you We can see right here I did publish this video to my subscribers and the reason for that is if I come over into my
analytics right here, we click on see more on this graph, we come over here, and we actually segment this out between subscribers and non-subscribers, and then scroll down, we could see that my subscribers watch my content longer than non-subscribers. If your subscribers watch your
content for less than non-subscribers, you are then going to want to uncheck that box so that your content doesn't get shown to your subscribers because if that's the case, they're actually hurting your channel. Now, that last thing you need to make sure you're doing is you need to
make sure that you're taking advantage of the fact that YouTube Shorts are now showing up in more placements than they ever have before on YouTube. And this is really one of the biggest opportunities for you to take advantage of because now they're showing on the homepage,
They're showing in search. And it's actually a new feature that makes it easier than ever before for you to get your content to show up there, even if you're a small channel. Now, here's exactly what I mean by this. As we established earlier in the video, Instagram algorithm is not something that tons and tons of people are searching for.
We could see this video right here got 6,000 views. This video here got about 80,000 views. This video here got 2,600 views. In fact, this is my video. But if we scroll down to Shorts, 250,000, 1,000,000, 88,000, 19,000.
So people are actually getting way more views for this topic under YouTube Shorts than versus if they were uploading about things that were going to be a long-form piece of content. Now, if we come over to my YouTube homepage, we're going to see something very similar.
If we scroll down over here, we are now going to see that we see a bunch of Shorts here. And again, let's look at this. Over 300,000 views. Over 40,000 views. Over 290,000 views.
These two videos are test videos right here. So what we're seeing is that you don't only need to upload long-form content on YouTube in order to get a lot of views. In fact, you should be uploading both long-form content and you should be uploading shorts.
But predominantly with your shorts, you should be trying to get them on the homepage or you should be trying to get them to rank for search. To show you another example here, if we type in bigger biceps, there's something along the lines of this.
We're going to see shorts get shown first here. 23 million, 1.5, 2.6, 1 million, 900,000. If we scroll down, we can see, once again, the views are way less on the long form content versus the shorts.
In fact, look at this. Who do we almost every single one of these shorts go final? In fact, every single one of these shorts did go final. So, there's just a way larger audience for search when it comes to shorts, and this is one of the fastest ways for you to get more subscribers and grow right now, because guess what you could do?
You could actually take all of the traffic that you're getting on your shorts using a related video and funnel it towards your long-form videos so that you get views for both. Now, if you enjoyed this video and you want to learn how to find the best time to post on YouTube or even the best days to post on YouTube for your specific channel niche,
I would strongly suggest you check out this video right here that walks you through exactly how to figure that out. I'll see you over there.
