[00:00] Welcome to Kokura. It's the year 1915. You are Makoto Daito, still a young man at this point in the story. After a series of events, he finds himself arriving in this unfamiliar land.
[00:14] His native language is English, so he begins the story not really understanding Japanese. As he navigates an unfamiliar culture, he encounters the harsh realities of the era, like open discrimination and widespread prejudice.
[00:29] Against that backdrop, young Daito pursues his dreams, persevering through life and growing along the way. The city of Kokura has a traditional character mixed with symbols of modernization like steelworks.
[00:44] It's a period when modern culture starts to take root alongside older ways of life. Many old-style buildings still remain, giving the city its unique charm. You can explore and enjoy on foot or by hitching a ride on streetcars like this.
[01:01] Stop in at restaurants or food stalls to eat a hot bowl of udon noodles or check out weapon shops pharmacies and other establishments along the way There are also many residential areas throughout the city to explore These homes
[01:15] aren't just part of the scenery, though. You can step inside and discover unique interactions with the residents. Since there weren't electrical appliances back then, people entertain themselves
[01:28] in all sorts of different ways. Whether it be dangerous tests of skill like this knife game, or others of strength, like an arm wrestling match, and other activities, like this group of men playing Menko.
[01:40] You can play it in every era and enjoy collecting a variety of cards along the way. Besides games, you can also take a break to quench your thirst and recover some health, or snap photos around town.
[01:52] The camera is old-fashioned, though, so it takes a little more effort to get that perfect shot. You can also go fishing and do a variety of other things as you explore. All these elements come together to make Kokura a truly vibrant setting.
