[00:02] continuing our OBS master class for complete beginners. Even though by the end you'll probably be a pro. So the whole point of this series and check out the whole playlist is to, you know, start from the beginning and explain
[00:14] every little thing about OBS. We've covered a couple of them already and today we're going to be focusing on sources. In every new video, people kind of glance over OBS sources because we don't use most of them. And this video
[00:27] to explain every single one of them so you can have a better idea of the possibilities of OBS Studio. So, we're basically going to pick up where we uh laptop. So, everything you're seeing here, you know, don't do not be
[00:43] intimidated. This is the result of everything we've done before in the playlist. So, go back if you missed it. You're like, "Oh, what is this overlay? How did we get here? Uh why do you already have scenes and stuff?" You have
[00:55] already have scenes and stuff?" You have a full screen scene. Put this like that. You have a game scene. We went through all of that. Okay. So, just to recap real quick, uh, in OBS Studio, when you want when you want to
[01:08] add something new, you click on a plus. There's usually a plus sign somewhere. And under your scenes list, which is right there, this is where you will find a little plus. And if you click, you'll have the list of all of your sources or
[01:23] all the sources. all the sources that are available in OBS Studio. Okay, so let's start from the top. The first one is application audio capture and it's in beta right now. So what this does is let me put my camera back. What this does is
[01:40] basically capture audio from a specific source as in a specific program that is running. So you could capture Discord, you could capture Spotify with this. But if you watch the previous video, we have
[01:53] something called desktop audio which is uh still here. And desktop audio usually captures everything that you hear. So if you hear it, the stream will hear it. you hear it, the stream will hear it. Meaning that this might not be um useful
[02:08] in that case if you're using desktop audio. But if you really want to have full control over everything, then you might want to use this. Okay. can see the options. Every single source has its own options. It'll tell you give
[02:23] it a name and then it will give you the properties if you will, right? You can see that window you can capture basically per window. So if you have multiple Chrome windows, I don't know if it would capture probably. But uh
[02:37] something else that I wanted I want you to know is you want to try those things try it out. You cannot mess it up. You really cannot mess it up. Just try those things out. Um, everything that I know about OBS is because I went in there, I
[02:50] read all the options, and I tried them out. Okay, there's no secret to that. Uh, you can make it match title. It's kind of like um a window capture, but it's audio. It only captures audio. Okay. Uh, now to delete, there's a
[03:04] little trash bin icon here. We're going to click on that. Boom. All right. Second source. What is that? Audio input capture. So input means it's something that you plug into the computer. So if you want again
[03:18] completely separate your audio, you can basically pick a specific microphone. I don't have a bunch of microphones on this laptop. I have my my uh virtual reality headset microphone and then the microphone that is integrated. I'm going
[03:33] to pick this one and maybe we will see it. So if I scroll down now on my list, you can see it right there. Hopefully that's not playing through my capture card. Yeah, we're good. And you can see we just added a new audio input
[03:47] can see we just added a new audio input capture. Now, why would this be useful other than separating your audio and your input? Let's say you want to do like a budget ASMR setup and you want to have one microphone, one physical
[04:01] microphone be on the left ear and another physical microphone be on the right ear, then you can just stack them up and add separate filters and do podcast and you have a guest over. I don't know why this wasn't my first
[04:14] example. [laughter] You can have the two microphones plugged into your PC as like USB microphones without like a whole podcast uh mixer and and and interface setup, right? You just set them up and then you can again
[04:29] control the volumes separately, put the filters separately and all that. So, this is why this is useful. Personally, I don't use them. I have one microphone. I use mic auxiliary as my default and I'm good. All right, let's see what else
[04:42] I'm good. All right, let's see what else can we get. Let's delete that one. that it's coming from the computer and going out to
[04:54] your headset, your speakers. Maybe you want to play it on a different device. For example, monitors have integrated speakers. Sometimes those are output output sources, right? So if I if we click on it
[05:09] and click okay, let's see the properties. It'll ask you something and usually you will find your headphones, your speakers, your TV if you have one connected and things like that. All right. Um,
[05:22] right. Um, in what case would you want to use this? don't know. I don't think I've ever used this source for for the whole eight plus
[05:34] years that I've been using OBS. Um, so yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No comment on that one. Finally, we have not finally right next we have browser. Now, if you watch you've seen this. This is what we use to have our alerts. But it's not just
[05:50] things that can pop up. It's not just widgets. It can be anything. The reason why it's called browser is because it is quite literally um a web page that you're displaying. It's a web page somewhere. Now, a widget is basically a
[06:05] tiny web page. An alert is a tiny web page, but a full web page is also a web page. So, you can you can show that too, right? Um we could use it in a sense if we're not doing it for alerts and widgets, you can use it to display
[06:19] certain overlays. For example, here I'm in stream elements and stream elements everything is basically a browser source, right? I could put an image here and this would be part of my source. But in here I have I guess like I'm just
[06:33] showing you another widget, some scrolling stuff and I can copy the link and bring it in there. Initially I wanted to find a full overlay. I just didn't have one on hand. And we're going to paste the link here. And we should
[06:49] to paste the link here. And we should have our Maybe the size is not good. Let's figure it out. Ladies and
[07:03] gentlemen, HTML and CSS always a hassle no matter what you do. Oh, there it is. See, if I wanted this to show up, that tiny little tiny little thing here, I could do that.
[07:20] to show something permanently like an image or maybe a video or just some information, you can use a browser source. Okay, there's a game called Words on Stream and it's also a browser source.
[07:34] OBS and then you have the game on your Twitch but you have to connect through the website. Anywh who, so yeah, that was our
[07:54] cool, cool, cool, cool. All right, next one is one of my favorites, and it's one is one of my favorites, and it's color, the color source, because all it does is basically give you something with a plain color. We just choose it.
[08:07] Let's say we want yellow that really pops. There we go. And then you can set uh the size also. You can modify the size to what you want. And since graphic design is essentially a bunch of rectangles, uh [laughter] you can do
[08:20] what whatever you want. You can still um uh crop the sides to really make it fit. You can still stretch it and all that. Um you can add some filters to it if you want to change color, if you want to change shape and all that and all that.
[08:34] to creating your own graphics in OBS Studio, and it's just the ability to put color, rectangles, and squares into OBS in the first place. Okay? And then you can even rotate them.
[08:52] this is like the the window to so many possibilities. Okay, next source, we will have display capture. I wish I had two
[09:04] right now. Display capture does what what it kind of sounds like. It basically shows everything that that's on your screen. You have to select the specific screen. So, if you have two
[09:16] monitors, they will appear here. I don't think you can capture both at once as in in one source. You would have to create two display captures for that. So, if I we're probably going to have like an inception. Yeah.
[09:31] does. As you can see, it's capturing everything. So, it's capturing everything. So, it's capturing just everything. because if you know sometimes personal information, personal information will
[09:46] pop up and things like that, you might show accidentally show things on stream that you don't necessarily want to show. So, in that case, you might want to go with a window capture so that you can capture the specific
[09:58] everything, every pop-up, every notification, every message sent on Steam or on Discord or things like that. Um, but I'm pretty like I don't know, I I use this play capture all the time and never really had problems with it. Next
[10:14] one is game capture. We've already seen this in the previous videos. Same thing if you have a game open. I don't right now. You can capture any full screen application or capture a specific window which is what I like to use and then it
[10:27] will appear in the list here. You just select it and again this is a form of window capture but it does have more compatibility. So keep that in mind. compatibility. So keep that in mind. Okay. um some software like PNG tuber
[10:40] software and things like that. Uh programs that are made in Unity, sometimes it's better to do game capture than window capture, but it's very very similar just different in terms of compatibility.
[10:54] What else is next? Image. We've seen that because we have an image right now. But yeah, basically all the formats including GIF. Um, I don't have a bunch of pictures on this
[11:07] laptop. There you go. And if you want some overlays, most of the time they're some overlays, most of the time they're just PNG images. Look at that. Check out the description for a link to where I have uh a bunch of overlays that
[11:21] I created. Most of them are free. The other ones are very, very u affordable. Check them out. Importing images is the easiest way to get overlays to your stream to decorate your stream basically. What else do we have
[11:38] slideshow as the name suggests this is a slideshow [laughter] but you can select um multiple images. I believe you can put a whole folder if I'm not mistaken.
[11:53] Plus here add files or add directory. directory is, hey, put everything inside of here. Select folder. And now you can see images that are inside of that folder with all the hey, what type of
[12:09] transition do you want? Um, how much time in between the slides, the transition speed, and if you want to play back the whole thing in a loop, all of that sweet stuff. Now, this can be useful if um I don't know, if you're a
[12:23] photographer, for example, you want to show off your pictures. If you have um if you want to do like a local sponsor banner in the sense of if you have multiple sponsors, you just put a bunch of logos, you try to make them the same
[12:36] format and then you use this to basically switch in between them. Uh if you have multiple messages that you want to show off, like, hey, buy my merch Twitter. You can create some graphics and put them in a slideshow and I have
[12:50] it right here. But that's what that is used for. I don't really use that but um but it is useful. Media is for videos for well for videos for audio and video. So if you want to play a sound in
[13:06] OBS Studio, you can just find an MP3 and just play it right there. If you want to play a video, for example, if you want to play, I don't know, a clip compilation in your be right back screen, right? And you want people to
[13:19] see it, you can do that. I don't know what this video is, but I'mma put it on a loop and I'mma slap it in there. And there it is. Look at that. It's me recording an intro a couple years ago. [laughter]
[13:33] And that's how you put videos into OBS Studio. Now, you might be wondering, what about animated overlays? If they are MP4, WebM, MKV, any video format, you put the loop, and that's how you put animated overlays into OBS.
[13:49] animated overlays into OBS. Very, very simple, very, very useful. through those pretty fast, actually. Scene. Now, scene is important because this is how you make quote unquote nested scenes. What's a nested scene?
[14:02] It's basically a scene that we already have. For example, I have my game scene here. And um let's say I want to put my game scene into the be right back. I can add it as a source.
[14:16] The reason why some people and I I'll select game here. The reason why people do this, it's because um sometimes you can add the filter to the scene instead of adding it to a source. And it's kind of like it's useful. Sometimes you can
[14:29] put the scene inside of a group, add a filter to the group. It's just easier to filter to the group. It's just easier to maneuver. sometimes with uh certain um around. So, you put them in their own scenes. Usually, I put my camera
[14:43] completely full in a scene and then I can place it in other scenes and do whatever I want. If I'm making like a special uh overlay or transition or I'll put it in its own scene and I just add it to every other other scene as a
[14:57] add it to every other other scene as a source. Okay, so that's how you do it. That's how you do it. Okay, so it's called nested scenes because it's kind of like a scene within a scene. Then we have text GDI and this
[15:10] a scene. Then we have text GDI and this is basic text tool options which makes this pretty powerful actually as a as a text tool. Um here
[15:25] you have the size. You usually want to go very big for the size because if you go small and you think, "Oh, I'm just going to scale it." This is the quality you're getting. You can scale it. It's right there.
[15:39] But the text itself is 6 pixels or something like that. So, make sure that you have it fairly big, if not huge,
[15:52] you have to bring it down, you can just bring it down. I can controlr to reset it. There it is. Also, shortcuts is something that we're going to be learning uh probably later on. Double
[16:04] properties. And I wanted to show you text transform. Um you can make it uppercase. Well, it's already uppercase. You can force it to be lowerase. Upperase. Um you can make it vertical. That's how
[16:20] you add vertical text into OBS. A lot of people don't know that you can change the color here. Let's go with yellow because it's striking. You can set a gradient directly into OBS Studio. So, I told you like the graphic design stuff
[16:34] in OBS Studio is possible. It really is gradient direction and everything. Look at that. Beautiful. Um, you can set up background. We're not going to do that. But the opacity is right here. Oops.
[16:52] Okay. And then there's alignment. Usually you want this to be center. Vertical alignment also center. Use custom text extent is how do I explain this? Let's say that you have something like
[17:08] um recent sub your dad 67.
[17:21] And you want this to be scrolling, right? filters today, but there's a scroll filter. You want it to be scrolling. So, filter. You want it to be scrolling. So, you make it scroll.
[17:38] that we have an issue. And that issue is that after it finishes, it starts over right away. There's no space in between it. Okay? So, visually very cluttered. Not really good. What you can do with um custom text extent is add extra space or
[17:55] remove space. So, it it's not bound to the I don't know how to explain it. It's not bound to the to the layers to the text at all. So, if I make it um just long enough
[18:11] if I make it um just long enough and tall enough, I should be able to um and tall enough, I should be able to um to get something out of it.
[18:24] it's supposed to do? It's not. Oh, there you go. You can see the space that it created in between those because I put like a pretty big number and now it's like a pretty big number and now it's scrolling and it gives me that. So,
[18:36] I'm not sure if that explains it, but custom text extent if you're struggling with like the scrolling stuff, that's how I do it. Anyways, there's some extra stuff that you can do with the text if you press Ctrl E, which is edit
[18:50] transform. We don't necessarily need to go through it. All you need to know is that this controls the bounce, right? So that that that red box around it, maybe you think, hey, if I have something modifying this text and it's dynamically
[19:04] changing just like you know the name of the person who just followed. If the want it to be cropped and I don't want it to take a bunch of space. What you can do is set this to what is it? Fit or stretch or automatic
[19:23] and then keep the alignment in the center. if I play around with the box, it should try to fill it. There you go. You can
[19:38] see the text automatically starts scaling up and down just because I'm modifying the height. So you can really make it fit by just doing that. But uh don't worry about that too much.
[19:52] you're like, if you're at the level that you are of this video right now, you're anytime soon, so don't worry about it. Okay, so that was text GDI. It's the main text tool in OBS. There's another one that we're going to see, but it's
[20:05] deprecated, so don't get too attached to it. Then we have video capture device. Um, this one is where your camera is going to be. If you have a capture card, anything that is transmitting video, pretty much [laughter] anything that is
[20:20] transmitting transmitting video is going to be in here. Um, and also your virtual to be in here. Um, and also your virtual cameras. If you have a software that can create like a virtual camera that you can select and then broadcast stuff from
[20:34] there, that's where it's going to show up. Okay. So, if you have a fancy webcam up. Okay. So, if you have a fancy webcam like um the where is it? the link to or like um the where is it? the link to or the the Elgato
[20:46] Facecam Pro. Um, those software usually gives you the option to have a um a virtual camera. As you can see, I'll go a virtual camera here. I haven't plugged in my my link, my Insta 360 link.
[21:00] Whatever video devices, basically, that's all you need to know. that's all you need to know. That's that. And what else? Finally, that. I think I have a Chrome window open. We're going to capture that. So,
[21:16] select the window to capture. Every window you have open is going to show up here. And now I can capture my stream elements window, for example. And there window, which means that if I do anything else on stream, people won't
[21:32] specific window, no one's going to see it. Okay? And that window is Chrome, by whatever. If you're going to go in here and switch tabs, it's going to capture that. Okay? The
[21:46] it's going to capture that. Okay? The window is like the the the same solid window that you have here. See, it even resizes. So, understand that. Understand that. And if you Yeah, if you minimize it, it
[21:59] might not show up. Keep that in mind. We're almost done. Um, You can create a group from No, I I never actually
[22:13] realized that. My I'm learning. What the heck? So, you can create a group. You can see here I created a group. I can I can probably rename it. Let's say that I wanted a couple of widgets to be in
[22:28] one group. I would call this one widget. And then basically I can drag and drop stuff into it. Let me drag and drop this and drag and drop that. And you can see then I can collapse it. It really helps you organize your sources in your scene.
[22:44] And then I can turn off the whole group and it turns off everything and turn them all back on. So yeah, you can create I've never created groups like that. So it's this is kind of new to me. That's so funny. Okay. Finally, we have
[22:58] deprecated. And there's text free type 2. And that's just a different type of text tool, but it's very still very sim similar. Um, you can still type whatever similar. Um, you can still type whatever here. Select the font. Same place.
[23:19] I don't know if this one has custom text. Yeah, it has custom text with word text. Yeah, it has custom text with word wrap just like we had. There's also just a couple of options but yeah this is deprecated so probably at some point
[23:32] an option that says from file and I believe it is it is in our text GDI too. From file means that it will read the text. The text that shows up here is actually going to be read from a file. So, if you have a notepad with some
[23:47] notes or something that you want to dynamically change, aka, you know, let me try to do that. Hold on. I'm scared cuz I don't know what's on my notepad and the new notepad things. Nothing bad. Nothing bad. But
[24:02] sometimes I put literal passwords and stuff. See, I have my Sometimes I have passwords and I have codes and things like that.
[24:15] codes and things like that. Uh there it is. So if I go testing and I save this, it's very important that is that it's saved somewhere. I'm
[24:29] going to save it on my desktop and I click save. Okay. If I go and browse it and I find it right there, you can see that the text switch to exactly that.
[24:44] Okay. So, testing notepad is here. So, if I want to modify it, I'm going to type. You can see I'm typing, but it's not real time. Only
[24:58] typing, but it's not real time. Only when I save will it update. Now it's updated. See it?
[25:10] software will take a a text file and then rewrite it. Um stream labels was a to do that. It would literally take a text file with your recent follower and
[25:23] it will just rewrite it and then resave it so that your recent labels would show up on stream. Okay, that's how it used to work. And that's pretty much all for the uh sources of OBS of vanilla OBS. Of course, you can install plugins that
[25:38] will give you way more sources. Um on my main computer, I have way more sources than that, but that's already a lot of things that you can do. Um next video we things that you can do. Um next video we might talk about um filters and go over
[25:53] every single filter that you can probably use. which is not a ton, but those are already very, very powerful for you to
[26:05] be able to accomplish a lot of stuff, okay? So, stay tuned for that. There's also audio filters that you can add on your audio. And you know what? We might make a a little course on what type of filters
[26:17] you want to put on your mic when you first plug it in because there's no real mics that are plug-andplay nowadays. Okay? Especially some since OBS has, you know, equalizer, compressor, expander, a lot of really cool stuff. Limiter now.
