[0:00] In this video, I'm going to share with [0:01] you how much YouTube paid me in the [0:03] first 6 months after hitting 1,000 [0:06] subscribers. So, to give you a bit of [0:08] context, I started this channel in April [0:10] of this year. And for the first 6 weeks, [0:13] you can see that my videos were getting [0:15] basically no views at all. I mean, I [0:17] remember posting some videos that were [0:19] getting less than 10 views each. And of [0:22] course, to pour your heart and soul into [0:23] your videos and for them to get [0:26] essentially no views, it does sting a [0:28] little bit. like let's just be honest [0:29] with each other. But I knew I had to [0:32] keep going. And I think it was the 12th [0:34] video that I posted, which is this one [0:37] right here, is the one that really, [0:39] really took off. And you can see that in [0:41] the 8 days after posting that video, my [0:43] channel hit 1,000 subscribers and I got [0:46] monetized just a couple weeks after [0:48] that, which was such a crazy feeling. [0:51] Like, I never expected in my wildest [0:54] dreams for the channel to take off that [0:56] quickly. Now, if you're unsure about how [0:59] monetization on YouTube works, you [1:01] essentially need two requirements to get [1:03] monetized. So, you need to hit 1,000 [1:06] subscribers and also 4,000 watch hours. [1:10] And for most people, myself included, [1:12] they will hit 1,000 subscribers first [1:15] and then it usually takes a little bit [1:16] longer to hit 4,000 watch hours. So, for [1:20] me, it took 59 days to hit 1,000 [1:22] subscribers after posting my first [1:25] video. and it took 71 days to hit 4,000 [1:28] watch hours. So that's around 10 weeks. [1:30] And once you hit those requirements, you [1:32] have to actually apply to get monetized. [1:35] So after I applied, it took about 8 days [1:37] for me to actually start earning money [1:39] from AdSense. So now let's dive into how [1:42] much money YouTube actually paid me in [1:44] my first 6 months of being [music] [1:46] monetized. Okay, so we'll start off with [1:48] month number one. And the reason I'm [1:50] doing it month by month is because later [1:53] in the video, I want to show you [1:55] something about how the amount of money [1:56] that you make per 1,000 views actually [2:00] changes as you get further into the [2:02] partnership program. And I think you're [2:04] going to find that really interesting. [2:05] So, in June, my channel received 102,000 [2:09] views. I gained 3.9,000 [2:12] subscribers and I made a grand total of [2:15] $8.74, [2:18] which sounds really bad, but it's only [2:20] because I only actually got paid for the [2:22] last day of the month. So, let's move on [2:25] to July. Now, this was my first full [2:28] month of being monetized, and this month [2:30] was absolutely insane because I actually [2:32] had two videos that were popping off at [2:35] the same time. So, you can see that my [2:36] views were much higher. So, I received [2:39] 167,000 views, 5.7,000 [2:43] subscribers, which is crazy. And I got [2:45] paid a grand total of $67529. [2:52] Now, of course, this isn't life-changing [2:54] money. You know, I definitely can't live [2:56] on this as a monthly income, but to me, [2:59] this is still amazing. You know, it pays [3:01] for some bills and maybe a few nights [3:03] out in the month. And also, just to be [3:05] fully transparent, this isn't the main [3:07] way that I make money from this channel. [3:09] I actually have a community for beginner [3:12] creators and a couple other things as [3:14] well, which by the way, some of our [3:15] members inside the community are getting [3:17] insane results at the moment. So, if you [3:20] are struggling to grow your audience, [3:21] link in the description. I can help you [3:23] out. Okay, so in August, my channel [3:25] received 92,000 views, 2.3,000 [3:28] subscribers, and I made $412.99. [3:33] So you can see it's actually come down a [3:35] little bit from the month before. Now [3:36] September is where things get a little [3:38] bit interesting. And one of the reasons [3:40] why I wanted to show you this month by [3:42] month is to show you just how much your [3:45] income is going to fluctuate when you [3:47] get monetized. For example, in this [3:49] month I gained 64,000 views, 1.4,000 [3:53] 4,000 subscribers, but I only made [3:55] $23663, [3:59] which is actually only a third of what I [4:02] made a couple of months before. But this [4:04] is totally normal because every channel [4:07] has videos that take off and then of [4:10] course those videos have to come back [4:11] down and you just have to get used to [4:13] the fact that your income is also going [4:15] to go up and then it's going to come [4:17] right back down with the views. So in [4:19] October things started to pick back up [4:21] again. So, I gained 86,000 views, 2,000 [4:25] subscribers, and made $414.15. [4:31] And finally, last month in November, I [4:34] had another video that did quite well, [4:36] and I received $134,000 [4:39] views, 3.3,000 subscribers, and I made a [4:42] grand total of $65958, [4:47] which is almost my best month so far. In [4:50] fact, I had this day right here where I [4:52] received $44. And I'm pretty sure that's [4:54] the most I've made so far in a single [4:57] day. Now, like I said, this definitely [4:59] isn't life-changing money. And I tell [5:02] you guys this literally all the time, [5:04] but YouTube AdSense is never going to be [5:06] your main source of income as a creator. [5:09] For example, if you do want to become a [5:11] full-time creator, then you can make so [5:14] so much more money from sponsorships and [5:16] of course creating your own products as [5:18] well. Now, the next thing I want to show [5:20] you is really interesting, and I wasn't [5:23] actually aware of this before I got [5:25] monetized. So, I want to talk to you [5:27] about something called RPM, and how that [5:29] actually changes over time. So, your RPM [5:32] is basically the amount of money that [5:34] you get paid per 1,000 views on your [5:37] videos. For example, if your RPM was $5, [5:42] every 1,000 views that you get on your [5:44] channel, you make $5. But something I [5:47] didn't know is that when you get [5:49] monetized, your RPM can actually [5:52] drastically improve over time. So you [5:54] can see that when I got monetized, my [5:57] RPM was $2.73. [6:01] And this number is pretty low. But you [6:04] can see that over the course of the next [6:06] six months, my RPM slowly but surely [6:09] improves all the way up to $658, [6:14] which is crazy because that means I'm [6:16] making two to three times more money for [6:18] every 1,000 views that I get on my [6:20] videos. So, I want to end this video by [6:22] giving you a couple of lessons that I [6:25] really wish I knew before I got [6:27] monetized. And if you're still on your [6:29] journey towards monetization, I think [6:31] you're going to find this really [6:32] valuable. So, the first lesson is that [6:34] your first breakthrough will always come [6:37] from an unexpected video. It's almost [6:40] always the video that you didn't really [6:42] expect to take off. For example, the [6:44] first video of mine that blew up was [6:46] essentially just a yapping video. There [6:49] was no fancy editing. I didn't really [6:51] put that much work into it. It was [6:52] basically just me telling a personal [6:54] story and sharing my experiences. And [6:58] then on the other hand, I've had videos [6:59] that I've spent absolutely ages on and [7:02] I've poured my heart and soul into and [7:04] they've just completely bombed. And [7:06] that's kind of the irony of YouTube. The [7:09] less you try hard to impress people, the [7:12] more impressive you become. And the [7:14] second lesson is that monetization is [7:16] the start, not the finish line. So I [7:19] think a lot of new creators, they treat [7:22] monetization like it's the end goal and [7:25] it's all that really matters. But once [7:26] you actually get monetized, you realize [7:29] that it's literally just level one. And [7:31] there are so many more levels to [7:33] becoming a full-time creator and turning [7:36] all this into a full-time business. And [7:38] on that note, if you do want to dive [7:40] into the easiest way to make money as a [7:42] small creator, even if you're not [7:44] monetized, I actually made this video [7:46] right here where I give you an ultra [7:48] simple blueprint on how I reached my [7:50] first $10,000 month as a complete [7:53] beginner. So yeah, click onto that video [7:56] and [music] I'll see you there. [8:01] >> [music]
