- **Is Din Djarin a good dad?** [04:54] — Favreau thinks he is a good dad, taking Grogu on missions as training, similar to taking a kid to R-rated movies.
- **Darksaber origin** [05:21] — The darksaber was created because George Lucas said a vibroblade can't fight a lightsaber, so they created the lore of the darksaber from an ancient Jedi temple.
- **Children of the Watch** [06:16] — A small sect of Mandalorians that hold fast to the old ways and are adamant about the dogma of the original creed.
- **Mandalorian and Jedi enemies?** [06:30] — It depends on the Mandalorian; Mandalorian armor is equipped to counteract Jedi abilities, so they have been combatants at times.
- **Can the Mandalorian beat Darth Vader?** [06:57] — Favreau says yes without question, but Filoni notes it depends on when.
- **When does the Mandalorian take off his helmet?** [07:10] — It depends on the Mandalorian; for this one, to survive, for romantic reasons, and a third reason that is in their movie.
- **Only Mandalorian Jedi** [07:52] — Tarre Vizsla was the first Mandalorian to receive Jedi training.
- **Mandalorian Creed** [08:06] — The Creed is 'This is the way', with additions like 'protect the young' and 'never take your helmet off'.
- **Where did Grogu come from?** [08:35] — The idea was to have a young character of Yoda's species, offering dramatic opportunity and a lone wolf and cub dynamic.
- **Will Grogu ever speak?** [09:13] — Filoni jokes that Grogu's first word will immediately follow his second word.
- **Razor Crest destruction** [09:26] — The Razor Crest was blown to bits, but they have another one now.
- **Importance of beskar** [09:38] — Beskar is Mandalorian steel, their skin and currency, and in pure form can deflect lightsabers.
- **Practical vs CGI** [09:52] — There is more practical than you think, with a mixture of practical sets and digital elements, especially in the film.

### Conclusion

The video provides an engaging Q&A that clarifies canon and creative decisions behind 'The Mandalorian', offering fans a deeper understanding of the characters and universe.

## Transcript

Weaver. I'm Jon Favreau. I'm Dave Filoni, the President Chief Creative Officer of Lucas Film Limited. >> And we are going to answer some of the most Googled questions about The Mandalorian and Grogu. Let's get right
Mandalorian and Grogu. Let's get right to it, shall we? Grogu is of the same species that Yoda is, but George Lucas never defined that
species, and so we have not either. Correct. Correct. Agreed. Wait a minute, slow down. >> Yeah, yeah, yeah. Why is Grogu still a >> about a lot of friends who are >> Different species. That's it.
>> They just age differently. That's right. You seem shocked. [clears throat] Who trained Grogu as a Jedi? Luke Skywalker.
chance. >> [laughter] >> [laughter] >> Answer question four. What is the most dangerous creature in The Mandalorian? I know. Yes? Man. Oh. Yeah, arguably
Arguably true. Wow. How do they design Mandalorian armor? So, the original design of the Mandalorian armor was inspired by illustrations done by Joe Johnston years ago between uh episode four and episode five when they were
coming up with a new villain um that was originally a >> Super commander white super commander armor, then that later became Boba Fett. >> Correct. And that was explored on the
>> Yes, correct, right. And and by the way, that was what inspired The rifle. your that zaps people cuz that's something that was used in the Christmas special. We made a live-action version of it season one. It was a lot of fun. Why did
The Mandalorian save Grogu? My answer might be different than the right answer, but it's definitely instinct. Well, it it was imminent because Werner Herzog was about to put him into something and we didn't know what was
going to happen. So, I think it was absolutely instinct. >> What weapons does the Mandalorian use? Like Bond level meets Star Wars gadgetry. So, the pistol I would say is primary. Yeah. But so is um
>> Mando will use anything in the room. resourceful. He He You were doing it with a with a beer bottle in this in So, it's grabbing things, using
>> Very resourceful. >> And the lasso, the lariat. What does Grogu eat? >> What doesn't he eat? >> The scariest, squishiest ones. >> That's true. Can the Mandalorian use the
Force? The Mandalorian cannot use the Force. He doesn't have the training. He >> he's probably very >> Nobody He can't Can you teach the Force to anyone? Well, Are you saying >> an energy field created by all living
things. The Force is in everyone, Pedro. Different people have different levels of midi-chlorian, which allows them easier access at times, but they cannot discipline. Which side is the Mandalorian on? He's He's on the on the
good side. But he is now. >> He's He Yeah, before he would work for I got to work to stay alive. You got to get paid. And so, he had jobs. And his core belief system was always uh Mandalore. I think through his human
heart that he discovered uh in his relationship with uh Grogu, he understood, you know, the good side. Why does the Mandalorian hate droids? In his does the Mandalorian hate droids? In his backstory, uh we see flashbacks of him
his his village being attacked, losing his parents. And And it's a During the Clone Wars. During the Clone Wars. So, that visual is what we reinforce as to why. But, trauma >> as the
trauma but as part of what I've enjoyed about the stories that we're telling is that the character changes through having empathy and relationships and the rebuilt IG droid that was first the one
that he actually blew away to help save Grogu ends up being rebuilt by Kuiil, a very thoughtful and wise Ugnaught uh [clears throat] technician and he imprints a different set of values into that droid and that droid ends up being
first season, right? When he takes the time you take your helmet off is looking at at IG and he says, "No living thing could see my face." And he's like, "I'm not a living thing." And he ends up sacrificing himself for you and the and
changes Din Djarin's perspective. Here's another question for you. Is Din Djarin a good dad? That's a matter of opinion. I think he's such a good dad. They're going on all these missions together
going on all these missions together now. These thrill adventures are side by which I do find part of the evolution because he wouldn't really let Grogu be in harm's way, but it's sort of in training
because it's sort of like when my dad would take me to R-rated movies. would take me to R-rated movies. >> [laughter] >> [laughter] >> Take it away. It's a phoney. As the
first first person who ever wielded it in Star Wars canon, I was at the working on the Clone Wars which nobody even heard of yet. And I said, "Hey, if I'd love to." And then he got a call to play a a Mandalorian. And that storyline
played out quite a bit and then eventually I was using a vibroblade. Yeah. And I was fighting a different type of weapon. I was fighting it was a a metal weapon that was fighting against a lightsaber. And we had recorded
everything and then I get a phone call saying you got to come back in. George said you can't have him use a vibroblade cuz a vibroblade can't fight a lightsaber. Only a lightsaber can fight a lightsaber. And so they created the
lore around the darksaber which the Mandalorians got from an ancient Jedi temple. And it's this cool looking black with a with a sort of a negative blade with a with a glow around it. Who are the children of the watch? It's a small
sect of Mandalorians that that really hold fast to the to the old ways, the old rules and are very very adamant about the dogma of the original creed of that we describe as early on in the Mandalorian. Are the Mandalorian and
Jedi enemies? Well, it depends on the Mandalorian, doesn't it? I think that's answer now. One of the Mandalorian armor is that it is perfectly equipped to counteract the
abilities skills and abilities of the Jedi. So they were they were at war at times, combatants at times, yeah. Can the Mandalorian beat Darth Vader? Yes. You think so? Without question.
over >> Well, it it does depend when. Cuz >> [laughter] >> I can't tell you how many times I've done this and I have to wait a
while. When does the Mandalorian take off his helmet? Well, one it depends on the Mandalorian. There are so many different levels of belief so many different levels of belief systems and this Mandalorian
in very very interesting stages, I would say. One, say. One, to survive. Second, Ooh. Romantic. Yes. Third,
>> Sigourney, would you like to tell everyone? No, just kidding. Don't tell. Oh, you mean Oh, I can't tell you because it's in our movie. Who was the only Mandalorian Jedi? I'm not I'm not sure if I agree with the Is that the
premise of the question? Well, I think they're speaking perhaps historically. >> Tarre Vizsla presently Tarre Vizsla would be the one that was first that received Jedi training. What is the Mandalorian Creed? Four words.
This is the way. Right. Professor after list all the things in the way. Well, we keep adding things cuz he says the old protect the young and way so we've added that to the Creed, right? You never take your helmet off.
That's part of the Creed. You Yeah. What's the play? I didn't sign up for the that's in the Pedro Pascal compendium. Where did Grogu come from? First of all, the idea of some character of that species of that age
who cuz Yoda was such a teacher and to have one that's a student cuz you always Yoda as old and wise but there were to to have a young one was just a compelling thing and remember as we're doing for television, it's like what
room to explore because you're going to unlike a film where you want to lay the whole thing out at first. Here we want to see what what offered a certain amount of dramatic opportunity
and then the lone wolf and cub dynamic between those two characters felt like we could really do something special. Will Grogu ever speak? I have something interesting saying I look forward to Grogu's first word as it will immediate
immediately follow his second word. Oh, very good. How was the Razor Crest destroyed? It got blown to bits right in front of me. >> It did. It was horrific. And also very confusing as to why we have another one
now. Why is beskar important to Mandalorians? From a character's point of view, it is our skin and it is our currency.
Our value. It is Mandalorian steel, yeah. And it has certain qualities and in in its purest form it can deflect lightsabers. How much of the show is practical versus CGI? My short version is a lot more than you think and a lot
more than I get to be around physically and I was always mostly impressed by the practical settings and practical effects that are part of shooting. There was it was always a mixture even when we're using the volume we would have
sometimes a digital layer it built in game engine in the background that move we'd built. Sometimes we would scan a practical layer to put in there. But in practical layer to put in there. But in the film we we had the time and the we
had a studio lot and sound stages to build sets of the scale that I grew up Dagobah or you know the the pit or where the arena where we fight. Those were all practical locations as well. But there's usually digital elements worked into it.
it's something we could achieve no other way. Well, that's all the questions. I think we couldn't have done better. >> [laughter]
