[00:01] in today's gaming and movie news, Xbox raises prices again. A new Nintendo Direct is coming soon and Spider-Man Brand New Day sets a brand new domestic box office [music] record. This is your daily fix.
[00:24] third in Europe, leaving fans stunned at how much Xbox Series X and S now cost. surprise, Microsoft announced they were coming back in June. The exact pricing
[00:36] for mainland Europe and the UK remained under wraps until now. In the US, Microsoft previously stated that the 512 gigabyte series S would rise by $100, while one TBTE series models would rise by $150. The two TBTE model will be
[00:50] discontinued completely, presumably because it would have become too in the UK and mainland Europe, the actual price rises in pounds and euros are much steeper. The 512 GB series S has jumped from 300 lb to 430 lb, while
[01:06] its 1 TBTE model has increased from 350 lb to 520 lb, a leap of 170 lb. Worse still are the increases for the Series X models with a 1 TBTE digital up from 450
[01:19] models with a 1 TBTE digital up from 450 lb to 620 lb, an increase of 170 lb. and the one tabyte disc model up from 450 pounds to 670 pounds. A whopping 48%
[01:31] increase and a 220 lb difference. Here in the US, a 1 TBTE Xbox Series S now costs $500, which is what the 1 TBTE Series X cost at launch in 2020. A
[01:43] Series X with a disc drive now costs $800. That's $150 more than a PS5 with a disc drive cost today. The most insane part of this is that Microsoft has done this to itself. It is pouring tens of billions into massive AI data centers.
[01:59] shortage, causing it to raise its own prices on Xbox. Earlier this year, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said that the spiraling cost of new and existing consoles would require radically different business models over the coming generation. She
[02:13] added that the industry had reached a point where it will be hard to imagine mass audiences still being able to afford thousands of dollars for a new console generation. We agree that is hard to imagine. Moving on, a Nintendo
[02:25] Direct focused on Fire Emblem Fortune Weave will air this week. The special stream will be broadcast tomorrow, Tuesday, August 4th, at 700 a.m. Pacific. You'll be getting 20 minutes of new details surrounding Nintendo's
[02:37] highly anticipated Switch to exclusive RPG. And of course, we'll have all the announcements right here on IGN. We last got a peek at Fortunes Weave during Nintendo's big June Direct broadcast when we learned that the next entry in
[02:49] the longrunning tactical role playinging series will land on September 17th. This is the first major launch in Nintendo's beloved strategy franchise since 2023's Fire Emblem Engage, which followed 2019's hugely successful Three Houses.
[03:02] Once again, The Direct is airing at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow Pacific time. And finally today, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has shattered the domestic opening weekend box office record previously set by Avengers Endgame. Sony has confirmed to
[03:14] Variety that Brand New Day made 360 million domestically this past weekend, beating Endgame records. Tom Rothman, chairman of Sony Pictures, said, "Wow, 360 million thank yous to all the filmmakers, actors, producers, and to my
[03:28] colleagues at Sony who created such a fantastic film and an exceptional Records are made to be broken, but we will take great pride in this one for as long as we hold it. Globally, the film still holds the second best opening of
[03:41] all time behind Endgame with a worldwide total of over $930 million. As a result of its astonishing start, Brand New Day is predicted to surpass the $2 billion mark at the box office by the end of its run. This is a feat only seven movies
[03:55] have ever achieved, and Spider-Man: No Way Home actually came pretty close to joining the club in 2022. That film ended its run with 1 bill921,426,073,
[04:10] have much competition, so Brand New Day will have an open runway to dominate. To enhance these odds, Sony is also showing it in IMAX starting this weekend. The only question now is whether Avengers Doomsday can win back the domestic
