[0:00] This is the new Cherry Tigo 4 and it's a [0:02] car that I personally would not buy, but [0:05] it's one I'll actually end up [0:06] recommending to lots of people. Here's [0:08] why. [0:12] Now, before people start commenting [0:14] that, uh, Matt, I would pay you to say [0:15] nice things about their car. Uh, not [0:17] true, because if I was being paid, I [0:19] wouldn't be saying things such as this. [0:21] If you know where to look, bits of this [0:22] car feel really cheap. Look at this. [0:24] Ooh. And when you shut the rear door, [0:27] the boost vibrates. [0:30] And that's not the only vibrating thing [0:32] on this car. The rear view mirror on [0:34] this car wobbles like crazy. Watch this. [0:36] Look at it. [0:39] It's terrible. This is not paint. If you [0:42] look closely, you'll see it's a wrap. [0:45] Look, look, look, look at that. Look, [0:47] look. A badly done wrap. Looks like [0:50] they've taken it to Yiannise. Sorry, [0:52] Yanni. Only joking. There's no lights [0:54] for the vanity mirrors. Then there's [0:56] this bit of trim here. I don't know why [0:58] it's not smooth like this bit. Look, [1:01] it's like there should be an end cap on [1:02] it, but there's there's just not to save [1:04] money. Also, what are these switches [1:07] for? Look, they're clearly for a sunroof [1:09] that's not there. You do get the sunroof [1:11] in other markets, but I don't know why [1:12] in this market they just didn't have a [1:14] different panel there. Once again, [1:15] saving money. Thing is, the Chinese are [1:18] pretty smart. They're saving money in [1:20] areas that only a geek like me will [1:23] spot. The benefit is that this car is [1:25] insanely good value for money. starts [1:27] from under £20,000. This range topper [1:30] under £22,000. It's so new. There's no [1:32] carow discount yet, but in a few months [1:34] there will be one. And it could be up to [1:36] two grand, which means this range could [1:38] be under 20 grand, which is nuts. So, [1:40] make sure you get a car out, see what [1:42] offers are available on this car by [1:44] following the links in the description, [1:45] the pin comment, and whatever is [1:47] appearing on the screen right now. And [1:49] in some ways, this car does actually [1:51] feel expensive. I do not know of a car [1:53] at this price point that has Posh gas [1:57] struts for the bonnet. And then there's [1:59] the engine that you're getting for your [2:01] money. This car has way more power than [2:03] its similarly priced competitors. So, [2:06] we've got a 1.5 L petrol engine, hybrid [2:08] system, 200 horsepower. That's the same [2:10] amount of horsepower as a Mark 5 Golf [2:13] GTI had. Let's see if it is as quick as [2:15] one from naugh to 60 mph. Here we go. 3 [2:17] 2 1 go. [2:19] Oh, bit of wheel spin. Oh, here we go. [2:23] What's it going to do? No, it's not as [2:25] fast as the Golf. 9.6. [2:27] What's it done with all its power? It's [2:29] actually supposed to do 0 to 60 in 8.9 [2:32] seconds. Let's change the mode. Sport [2:35] mode. Here we go. [2:39] Yes, that's it. That's it. We got the [2:43] petrol motor doing something now. Wow, [2:45] what a difference. 7.9 seconds. Not as [2:48] quick as a Mark 5. Golf GTI. That's 6.9 [2:52] seconds, but significantly quicker than [2:54] I got in a Renault Capture, which is [2:56] about the same money. That car took 9.2 [2:59] seconds to 60. I mean, it does make a [3:01] racket when you're accelerating in [3:03] sports mode, but [3:05] okay, let's see if it stops as well as [3:07] it goes. So, brake test from 60 mph and [3:09] then I'm just going to do a full [3:11] emergency stop. We're looking at around [3:13] 35, maybe 34 m. 3 2 1. [3:19] Hey, felt good. 36 m. So, that's all [3:22] good. And there's something else I need [3:23] to show you that's good. You see, a lot [3:25] of journalists compare this car to the [3:27] likes of a Volkswagen Tacross and a [3:29] Renault Capture because it's in a [3:31] similar price point, even though it [3:32] undercuts those cars. But in terms of [3:35] size, like the length [3:38] and the width, it's similar in [3:41] dimensions to cars from the class above, [3:43] such as a Volkswagen T-Rock. You're [3:46] getting a lot of car for your money. You [3:48] could also argue that you're getting a [3:50] lot of cars for your money. You see, [3:52] it's almost like the designers came up [3:54] with a mood board with various other [3:57] cars on there to give them inspiration, [3:58] but rather than just using them for [4:01] ideas, they just took the various parts [4:02] of the cars and brought them together. [4:04] I'll show you what I mean. Now, the [4:05] front is like a DS7. This part is very [4:09] much like the previous generation [4:11] Volkswagen T-Rock, while this bit is [4:14] more Tiguan. Even the badge is a bit of [4:17] a copy. It's like an Infiniti. Then [4:19] there's this design element, which I'm [4:21] sure I've seen on another car before, [4:23] but I can't remember which one, so maybe [4:25] you can comment if you recognize it. [4:27] However, none of this will matter to [4:28] buyers of this car. What will is whether [4:30] it's an easy car to live with on their [4:32] commute. This car is absolutely fine for [4:35] people who aren't that into driving. But [4:37] if you are, you may find it somewhat [4:39] lacking. And here is why. the cornering. [4:42] It's okay at first, but if you go a bit [4:44] too quick, it starts to run out of ideas [4:45] and push wide and get a little bit out [4:47] of shape. Then when you floor the [4:48] throttle, if you're in sports mode, you [4:50] get this [4:53] noise from the engine when you put your [4:55] foot down. Then there's the steering, [4:57] which you know when you like spill Coke [5:00] or some soft drink over your computer [5:02] keyboard and then the key sticks? the [5:04] steering's like that when you first try [5:05] to turn. It's like it's stuck and then [5:06] you get past that bit and then the [5:08] resistance that you have is the same no [5:10] matter how much steering lock you apply. [5:12] It's all a bit odd. Also, there's a bit [5:14] of a dead zone in the steering. Look at [5:16] that. I mean, look what [5:21] So, this is not the sort of car that you [5:22] derive any sort of driving pleasure [5:24] from, but it's not so bad that it comes [5:27] out the other side and just becomes a [5:29] bit of a laugh to drive because it's so [5:30] comical. a bit in the way that my Suzuki [5:32] Jimny does. It's not bad enough to [5:35] actually be good, if that makes sense. [5:38] And to be fair, I do think that a [5:39] Renault Capture does handle slightly [5:41] better. And if you want to see my full [5:42] in-depth video review of that car, click [5:44] on the pop out banner appearing up [5:46] there, scan the QR code on screen or [5:48] follow the link in the description. [5:50] However, handling isn't everything. [5:53] Thing is, most people don't drive like [5:55] me and they'll actually be impressed the [5:57] moment they sit in this car because [5:58] they'll go, "Wait a minute. The interior [6:00] of this is way posher than you'd expect [6:01] for this price point. In fact, you got [6:03] soft touch materials here on the door. [6:05] I've got a Kier EV5 in at the moment. [6:07] It's twice the price of this and you [6:08] don't have that on that car. In fact, [6:10] all the materials here feel good. It's [6:13] solid. It looks nice. The infotainment [6:16] screen is sharp, clear, it's easy to [6:18] use. And oh, why am I pressing home when [6:22] I'm already in home? I love it to press [6:23] that button there. Look. And yeah, [6:27] however, the screen itself is a little [6:29] bit far away. So, you do have to lean [6:30] forward to operate it. The digital [6:32] drivers display that is clear as well. [6:34] It's simple. And I like the fact that [6:36] you have separate controls from the [6:37] climate. You can do it through the [6:38] screen, but you can do it through this [6:40] panel as well. Shame it's not physical [6:41] buttons and it's just like touch [6:42] sensitive buttons. And this is a bit [6:44] odd. Look. So, you think that's going to [6:46] be a slider, but it's not. If you slide [6:48] it, the whole thing gets confused. Look, [6:50] I'm sliding it. It's getting confused. [6:51] Look, it's getting confused. What you [6:53] actually have to do is just tap the big [6:55] one or tap the small one. [6:58] Why didn't they just do it like that? [6:59] That just freaks your brain out. Other [7:02] than that though, everything is fairly [7:03] logically laid out. However, word of [7:05] warning, if you have the entry-level [7:06] car, you don't get this faux leather [7:08] interior and you get a plastic steering [7:09] wheel. The switch gear feels nicely [7:12] damped. There's decent storage and [7:15] everything feels solid. This range [7:18] hopping car has 50 watt wireless [7:20] charging. Decent cup holders. More [7:22] storage under here. You got your USBs [7:24] and stuff down there as well. Look, [7:26] decent size glove box. And the door [7:28] bins, [7:30] they are big. [7:33] The seating position is good as well. [7:35] And there's enough adjustment in the [7:37] steering wheel. The only thing that's [7:38] lacking is the fact that no model gets [7:41] lumbar support for either the driver or [7:43] the passenger. [7:45] I think this car is fine with people [7:46] with families. Look, knee room's good. [7:48] Head room's good. The floor is almost [7:50] completely flat. There's plenty of foot [7:52] space. If you need to carry three people [7:54] at once, you can do so. Jump in, guys. [7:57] So, as with all cars this size, you [8:00] know, shoulder room is tight, but even [8:02] the people Yeah. on the either side of [8:05] me, head room and knee room is fine. [8:07] >> Yeah. [8:08] >> All righty. Jumping out. It's got enough [8:09] space back here as well to fit a baby [8:11] seat. It's a bit of a faf the location [8:12] of the ISOIX. a bit high up, but once [8:15] you've got your seat in position, [8:16] there's plenty of room even for a bulky [8:17] rearfacing seat. So, that is all good. [8:19] What's not so good is that it doesn't [8:21] feel quite as plush in the back as it [8:23] does in the front because here, look, [8:24] you got hard plastics on the door tops. [8:27] Although, do you know what? A Volkswagen [8:28] Tiguan is just the same. And this is a [8:31] bit cheaper feeling here. And this panel [8:32] here, it looks like it's going to have [8:34] climate control behind it, but it's just [8:35] blanked out because the ignition's not [8:37] on. No, it's a shiny plastic. And why [8:39] are why this day and age you only have [8:40] one old school USB here in the back? I [8:44] don't know. And there's other areas you [8:45] see a little bit of costsaving. Listen [8:47] to this. [8:50] Not that or the fact that the window [8:52] doesn't go all the way down. It's that. [8:54] Listen to that. [8:56] That's quite noisy. In fact, I wonder [8:58] what the anti-pinch function is like. [9:00] Will it take off your child's finger? [9:03] No, it won't. Nothing to worry about. [9:05] It's just noisy. Sorry Jerry for [9:08] doubting you. Last thing to know, [9:10] armrest, couple of cup holders aren't [9:12] covered, but given the price point, we [9:14] do not care. But there is something we [9:16] do care about because this car needs a [9:18] bit easier to drive in town, doesn't it? [9:19] Cuz that's where most people are going [9:20] to use it. So, this car is fairly easy [9:23] to navigate in tight spaces. Look, we [9:25] scoot through this gap. No problem. It's [9:26] cuz you sit quite high. Visibility is [9:28] generally good. Big door mirrors, decent [9:31] back window. Fine. What's not so fine is [9:34] the suspension can feel a little bit [9:36] lumpy. It's not terrible, but when [9:38] you're driving over uneven surfaces, it [9:41] does get a little bit jiggly. One thing [9:43] I can't fault though are the brakes. So, [9:45] on quite a few Chinese hybrids and EVs, [9:48] they can be a little bit grabby, but [9:50] these ones aren't, which is good. [9:52] There's another area that this car is [9:54] good, and it's the maneuverability. Now, [9:56] if you compare the turning circle to [9:58] cars of a similar price, like a Scoda [10:01] Kamik, it's not quite as good, but this [10:03] is bigger. It's the same size as a [10:04] Volkswagen T-Rock. If I press this [10:06] button, I can get up 360 degree view, [10:09] and then I can see the way I'm turning. [10:12] Gives me a good idea of whether I'm [10:13] going to get round in one go. Yeah. [10:15] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. [10:18] All good. That is a good feature, [10:20] though, isn't it? [10:22] Been able to do that. Look either side [10:24] of the car. That's nice. If you're the [10:26] kind of person that likes to lease their [10:27] vehicles, this car will not be for you [10:29] because at the moment the leasing price [10:31] over three years works out to about [10:33] £17,000. [10:35] So, you may as well buy it because the [10:36] depreciation over that period will just [10:38] be £9,000. However, better leasing deals [10:41] will come through. And to make sure [10:42] you're up to date, head to car wow, [10:43] follow the link in the description or [10:45] the pin comment. But there's an [10:46] alternative. You see, for the same money [10:48] as an entry level one of these, you [10:49] could get yourself this used 30,000 mi [10:52] 2-year-old Volkswagen T- Rockck on Car [10:54] Wow. But when you buy used, you always [10:56] need to keep your wits about you. That's [10:58] why I recommend you do a car vertical [11:00] used car history check. And here's an [11:02] example of a VW T-Rock, which has a [11:05] dodgy past. Look, it's got questionable [11:07] mileage. It's got photos of accident [11:09] damage as well. So, you can either walk [11:10] away from the car and reject it or use [11:12] that information to negotiate a lower [11:14] price. If you want to head to Carver [11:15] Vertical now, follow the link in the [11:16] description of this video or scan the QR [11:18] code or click on the pop out banner and [11:20] use the code car wow for 20% off. Now, I [11:24] want to show you some cool features on [11:25] this car which are quite surprising [11:27] considering the price. There's this [11:28] little icon there in the door and what [11:30] that does is light up if it senses that [11:31] a car is about to pass you or a cyclist. [11:33] Here's how it works. So, there's a car [11:35] coming past. I want to get out. Oh, I'm [11:36] just going to get out now. But, oh no, [11:38] I'm not going to because that just [11:40] flashed because there's a car coming. [11:42] There's a handy USB up there. so that [11:44] you can plug in a charging point for [11:47] your dash cam rather than having like [11:49] wires like dangling all across the [11:51] place. This hybrid can be super [11:53] efficient. When I was being sensible, I [11:54] achieved 56 MPG. Cherry gives you a [11:57] 100,000 mi 7-year warranty, but it's [12:00] actually an extra year on top, 8 years [12:02] for the battery. It's very simple to [12:04] turn off all the annoying driver [12:05] assistance systems. You can just quickly [12:07] swipe down on the screen and then just [12:10] dab away at them like that. Oh, go away. [12:12] Yeah. Yeah. just go away. [12:15] You also get a reasonable amount of boot [12:17] space for your money. 430 L though. This [12:20] is a bit odd. Look, there's a hump there [12:23] cuz of the battery. Will it affect how [12:27] many suitcases I can fit in? Let's go. [12:36] That will be five. But there's something [12:38] else you need to know about the boot. [12:39] You see, when you fold the seats down, [12:41] you get a bit of a lump there. I'm going [12:44] show you the problem with that. When [12:45] you're trying to push things through [12:47] like that, [12:48] it's a bit more problematic [12:57] as you can see. And that's not all. [12:59] Look, this boot doesn't actually open [13:01] that high. It's all right for me. Look, [13:02] cuz I'm I'm not the tallest. Lewis, [13:04] look, it's crushing his gelled hair. [13:06] He's not happy. So, where does that [13:09] leave us? Well, while I personally [13:11] wouldn't buy one, and I wouldn't [13:12] recommend it for people who are into [13:14] cars and driving, for the vast majority [13:16] of people who just want something that [13:17] is insanely good value for money, this [13:21] is hard to ignore. And that's why I'll [13:23] be recommending to many people that they [13:25] should go right ahead and buy a Cherry [13:28] Tig 4. I hope you'll enjoyed the video. [13:30] If you did, give it a like. Let me know [13:32] what you think of my verdict in the [13:34] comments. If you want to watch some [13:35] other videos, click on the video windows [13:36] and click on the Carwell logo to see how [13:39] much you can save on your next car. [13:41] Thanks for watching.
