[00:15] great melodies are not really about the initial melody idea itself. No initial initial melody idea itself. No initial idea that you have is inherently good or bad, interesting or boring. Great melodies are truly about what you do
[00:30] with the initial idea. So, when Katy Perry started the song Firework and had the melody idea, da da da da da, I don't think anyone was sitting around going, "What a great melody idea that is. Let's pursue that one. That's a banger."
[00:45] What happened was they came up with an initial motive and built the melody out of that idea. It's not the initial idea you have, it's what you do with that initial idea that creates great melodies. [clears throat]
