## Summary

This video is a live gameplay stream of the horror game 'Silent Hill: The Short Message' (referred to as 'this game' in the transcript), where the streamer and a co-host navigate a medical center, solve puzzles, and discuss the game's mechanics, story, and difficulty. The session includes a medical diagnosis mini-game, stealth sections, and a critical review of the game's combat and stealth elements.

### Key Points

- **Gameplay Start** [00:13] — The stream begins with the player navigating a medical center, using brakes and checking turrets, indicating a horror-survival setting.
- **Story Dialogue** [05:13] — A narrative scene unfolds with characters Zoe and Sam discussing unresolved issues, hinting at a deep, emotional story.
- **Medical Mini-Game** [07:05] — The player is tasked with diagnosing a patient using blood pressure, oxygen levels, and x-rays, with instructions to disregard values outside 70-110 for blood pressure and 40-160 for CPM.
- **X-Ray Procedure** [11:11] — The player must use an x-ray system to image the head and chest, setting parameters like 'Volt 3, Curse 7, Time 1' for the skull, and 'Chest 7, string 1.2' for the chest.
- **Diagnosis** [16:25] — The x-rays reveal a collapsed lung and a foreign object, requiring chest decompression and intubation, with a specific infusion cocktail: 2.5mg dextracyclate, 3mg hydroxyline, 11mg tensoformide.
- **Gameplay Critique** [18:42] — The streamer criticizes the game's stealth mechanics, noting that combat is not viable and that pure stealth becomes tedious, preferring games where enemies can be removed.
- **Stealth Difficulty** [27:28] — The streamer notes that stealth is forgiving, with enemies not pursuing quickly, but still finds the mechanic unengaging.
- **Difficulty Adjustment** [34:57] — The streamer decides to lower the difficulty to 'story' mode to focus on the narrative, stating that hard difficulty in stealth games tests patience rather than skill.
- **Stream Conclusion** [39:56] — The stream ends with plans to continue the game tomorrow, and a note about a sponsor stream for 'Control Resonance'.

### Conclusion

The video is a mixed review of 'Silent Hill: The Short Message', praising its immersive horror and story but criticizing its stealth-heavy gameplay, leading the streamer to lower the difficulty to enjoy the narrative.

## Transcript

Turn your blue light filter off? Maybe. Maybe. Oh wait, we're gonna have to slow this down. Okay.
Okay. What's in here?
Frick. Hold on, brakes. We can stem with the brakes.
I'm not a fan of the apparent lack of silence for here. Oh, I can't get by him?
This music is so weird dude.
It is so weird. Okay, looking good.
Keep moving. Always check your turrets. Oh my god, are we done?
We're done with this cursed area. Oh! The gnomes!
Always the gnomes. Oh, here we go.
Interesting, so this is the medical center.
So what exactly can we do back here? Oh, this ends. I thought it kept going. Nice.
Time to make donuts. Ooh, have fun, Chuck Fito. That sounds cool.
Alright, can't get in there. Come on.
Thank you.
um
Zoe, what's going on? You don't understand.
I think I do. Yeah, I think you do. I'm here to help you. To help you, Sam.
I don't know why you are here, Simon. All I know is that the reason isn't to help me.
I tried so hard to do right by you. By everyone. I thought I had. But it wasn't enough.
And you coming back is just making things worse. You're reopening the wound. I'm just... showing.
Woo! I'm just going to be back in here. I know I do.
There's a lot of juice going on, Chef.
Sir, if you are in the surgery, please use the intercom. Hello? Dr Glenn?
Yes, I was hoping for someone more qualified, but I suppose you'll have to do. Right, well, I'm at the Shawfront site now, tending to patients that are coming in.
We've got too many to deal with, so I'm sending those in Dianine to the medical centre. You should have a patient in front of you, and there are more on the way.
We don't know who he is, but I've arranged x-rays of the head and chest, and have vitals hooked up. I need the other staff with me here on site, so you are on your own for now.
Try not to bother anyone. Okay. What do I need to do? Well, if you can give me the answers I need, I can try to guide you through this remotely.
I shouldn't have to, but here we are. I'm sorry. I hate this guy. Oh my God, you... Get them all red. Yes, red.
First off, we need to know who we're working with. Start with the basics. Blood pressure. Where do we at? 80 over 170
well that does sound like a blood pressure reading the non-attachable one try again wait what
oh Oh!
So wait, am I supposed to guess base... Oh, one second. Did I do anything there? Oh. Oh my god. Notice the sky. Oh my god.
Equipment overview. Disregard values outside of 70-110. Values under 75 are unreliable and outside of equipment standards. CPM values outside of 40-160 are often
inaccurate. Ensure the correct color beads are attached at all times. Okay. I probably should have like written all that down, but... Okay, that's totally wrong.
Hold on, hold on, hold on. The blood oxygen is too low. Hold on. Press the button. It's low. 70 over 40.
What the tolerance Two It blank Give me the correct tolerance now or this is going on your record Wait do I have to go all four of them
So different things are on different machines? Who runs this hospital, man? Minus 76.
Minus 103. Okay, hold on. 162. I guess this one? That seems really high. 162. Okay, and blood oxygen levels? And the blood oxygen level one was...
Values under 75% are unreliable. Try this one. Okay. Very low, 80%.
Obviously I can't tell from here, but it sounds like there has been some serious trauma that has resulted in blood loss. Possibly pooling in the floral stage of the chest. Well, obviously you'll need x-ray imaging to understand what's truly going on here.
You'll need to go next door and use the x-ray system to image both the head and the chest. It's a fairly straightforward process, hopefully you can handle it. I'll have my assistant page you the main code for the door in a moment.
paralyzed, not them, you, pointless
oh good, I know you are here you are always, oh there's a lot of stuff 7103 Once you have all the systems offline, orient the camera above the head and calibrate accordingly
on the control panel. Is the head at the top or the bottom?
where the heck is the head is that the chest? is that the head? it looks heady
maybe? I need to heal before I die
Details to follow.
Oh, here we go. Okay, we want the skull. So, Volt 3, Curse 7, Time 1.
Okay. Looks heavy. Sight.
Skull. Time. One. KV. wait no KV is there's volts and current so there's any current seven and this is
KV is okay Now how do I take the x-ray?
Is that it? Oh wait, is that the button?
Hold on. Do? No. Do? No. Oh.
Oh, I see. Ah. Okay. Okay.
the chest area. Do try to speed up, though.
Great. Chest 7, screen 1.2.
Cool.
Okay, got them up. Head x-ray first. What do you see? There's signs of impact trauma, possibly a fracture.
What else? I think there is soft tissue swelling around the side of the face. Okay, that's not great. Yes, over there, orange chart. Chest x-ray, talk to me.
There's an opaque density. It looks like maybe the left lung has collapsed under pressure of fluid. Anything on the spine? There's definitely a foreign object embedded on the right hand side.
I think you could probably tell that without an x-ray. Well, this is all obviously life threatening and these injuries are going to require chest decompression. And intubation for airflow is very difficult to keep them alive.
First though, we'll need to get some of these readings under control. We'll need to hook up an infusion cocktail of 2.5 milligrams dextrose cyclate, 3 milligrams hydroxyline and 11 milligrams tensoformide.
Are you writing this down? Yep. Sorry, 2.5 milligrams of dextrose cyclate. I don't think I've even heard of these. Oh, for Christ's sake.
Sorry. It's almost like she didn't go to school to be a doctor. Listen, we're low in supplies on this island as it is. You can check the pharmacy storeroom, but given the situation, you might need to see what you can scrounge up from other wards.
Go, now. Okay, okay.
Oh good we can hide and stuff in here. Well that's horrible.
Ugh. I'm out on the left. I'm on the left.
Okay. Okay. How is co-locking this game? Um, it's okay. It's really immersive.
And I love that part of it. But, like, it's, uh... I don't know. So far, it's, um... I don't know how...
It's a very depressing story. And the gameplay loop of just avoiding all the enemies, like, we've fought them in a couple ways, and it's just, it's obvious that combat is just not something you're supposed to do in this game.
So, I don't know. I was hoping it was going to be a little bit more... Well, weirdly enough, I felt like the last one was kind of too gamey, and this one is now much more immersive, but now, I don't know, the gaming part of it is a little thin for me.
Yeah, hasn't been quite as much stuff lying around, and... I don't know. Yeah. I'm digging the story, though, and I'm curious to see where it's going, so I'm definitely planning on finishing it, but...
For some reason, the gameplay isn't super holding my interest. Oh, God. Oh God.
Oh that's right, with her we only have the pager thing. Junkie, look at the door. Let's go to the pharmacy first and see what we can get. Doesn't the office.
God damn it I hit the button again I guess we can close the door
Oh, the old Mick Jagger, we need to beat a few states. Yeah. Maybe that's them trying to game-clean the story? Well, I think the issue is more the gameplay that's here isn't super engaging for me.
Um... Like, just avoiding... I'm not a huge fan of just, like, pure stealth games. I was kind of hoping to be a little bit more, like, ability to deal with enemies.
Granted, I do have bottles and stuff, but... I think I've realized that I really like games like this, but especially if I can, like, remove the enemies and then explore the environment.
And I can't really do that in this game at all, I'm just constantly having to avoid these enemies and it just gets a little tedious. So I like these games, but I think I've come to the conclusion that I like removing enemies too.
Or it just feels like Alien Isolation the whole time. Yeah, I kinda like Resident Evil. Yes, I really like Resident Evil for that. Yep, I really like Resident Evil for that.
And now that I even think about it, the last Silent Hill, the Japanese one, kind of had more of that, I would say.
Why can't I throw the brick? Why is the brick thing not coming up? There we go.
All right. All right.
Just been notified that an extra shipment from the mainland has been delayed due to the recent bad weather conditions. This means that while we have plenty of supplies at the
moment, if we don't receive the rescheduled shipment coming this week, we'll all be careful to join the supplies. At the moment, pharmacy levels are healthy, so the thing will look fine.
Love is happy new year. Really shows how caring a bossy is, prick. Off the record. Ha ha. Dang! That was a real big move from that doctor.
Oh shit.
Damn, not a damn thing out here, huh? Okay, now where am I?
I'm in the consult room. Where are the consult... Oh, right here. We're down here. So the pharmacy store is directly across the hall from us right now. Okay. Right there.
You want to wait till we come back?
Got little drops of coffee I can still salvage.
And so bromide. That's why I need 11 milligrams of that. Oh, there's exactly what there is.
The pager's rough because you can't tell what direction they're facing, so you have no idea if you need to wait or not.
That is a very rough mechanic.
There is somebody in here, sir.
Have some respect. Shit. Some people.
Try to get around to those upper patient rooms. Um...
I will say
the stealth in this game is very forgiving now that I spent some time with it like I am NOT a great self layer it is giving me good tools to deal with my situation like if the enemies do not like
pursue super quickly they kind of break pretty fast that is one part of the theme I have not really had from 3 to the middle which is a surprise because I don't want to do that.
It has not gotten to that point. Oh, somebody said, oh, just you wait. Oh, God.
Doesn't get bad. It doesn't get bad. Dude, how- Oh my god, man! How am I supposed to tell who's who?
That just
killed me completely? Oh.
Where did it save last?
Where are we? Oh, in the consulting area. The bottom. The bottom. Okay. There we are.
This is what you get when you get your butt up and get another coffee or some water. I know. I agree. Hi, Zoe. I think you were the guy that messed this up earlier, weren't you? Yeah. Hey, friend.
Okay.
I will say also that I like how you can kind of see through these I'm going to turn the volume down a little bit. Uh-oh.
All of a sudden, my urge to continue this is getting less and less. Okay. Let's see.
Alright, we got a way here.
Am I in a death save loop? Oh no no no, not at all. Is there a phone in here?
Where's the phone? There's a phone like right down here somewhere, right? Down here on the left. It's right there. So you don't have to do that anymore.
How's it feel like in this? Overall, it's good. Overall, it's been okay. Yeah, man. the thing that I'm really digging about this is the immersive horror elements. That part
I'm really feeling. The part I'm not so feeling is the self-gameplay. Which does work the other half of the game so far, but I'm really liking
the immersive exploration and the level design, and that stuff has been top-notch. I've really been enjoying that. To be fair, I'm not very good at stealth games anyway, so...
Me saying I'm not a big fan of a stealth mechanic is... like saying a fish isn't really a fan of the desert.
So next time this guy attacks us, I'm gonna try to throw a brick at him and then beat him down with a stick. I can't even tell if he's looking at me.
Another one? Two more.
Okay. so combat is just not an option um it's not an option that is not something we're going to do in this game
okay that's just that's just not nope nope okay um I was so excited to to beat that guy down and then explore that area but it was not meant to be
Chad it was not meant to be I'm just hoping that dirty badge will heal that all the way up.
Do bottles stun like bricks? Oh, lower difficulties make it so the things actually die?
Man, there's a part of me that wants to just drop this to story mode. I don't think I care about the difficulty in this game. I'm going to drop to normal. Yeah, I'm gonna drop the normal I don't think I wanna
I don't think I wanna wrestle with the stealth mechanics I'd much more just have a good story I'm gonna say something I'm really proud of myself just then You know, I would've not made that decision ten years ago
What happened about that? Highest difficulty gives a special ending? I don't give half a shit Will you pause please? Yeah Okay great hey I'll play
hard difficulty when I feel like it like tests me I don't I don't really feel like hard difficulty in a stealth game is really testing anything but my ADD and paces which we both know I don't have any of anyway so it's not like that's going to do anything I'm sure in this little
dark corner see if he sees me I just recently played this game called Sinking City 2.
And I was having a good time in that game, but man, you know, the difficulty just made a lot of the parts of the game I didn't like shine. And I can tell that's exactly what was starting to happen in this game.
Where the difficulty was making it so the bright parts weren't as bright. And that's why we're changing things. I think that's my biggest, that's my you biggest tell.
Is if I hear myself saying like, I really like this part, but this other part is kinda ruining that experience. If I can taste that other part in any way, then I need to hear it.
I'm gonna, real talk, I'm gonna drop it down to story. It still sucks, I mean I don't care, I just wanna, I just wanna play the story of this game. I'll say the difficulty is like Control Resonance and games that are like that.
Can you just go back the other way?
Alright, so I think from here we can wait for him to go by. We're looking at the guy in the top left there. Oh shoot, what is this?
This is a records room. I stupidly did not have a plan of attack when I came in here like I should have.
So we're back on the left side now. The office is to our left, and the staff room is down there to the left, and we also have a private room on that wall as well.
Okay. Oh! Oh, no! Okay.
Well, shoot. One sec, Chad. I really, really hope there's a phone in the office. Come on, phone in the office.
No phone in the office. Okay. We have a sponsor in 30 seconds. We've got to get to a phone. What about over here? Feeling good about the staff room. Feeling good about the staff room.
There's just a radio to call the attention of everyone that wants to kill me. Okay. Okay. Not super pleased with this turn of events. Oh, wait. Can I open that door back?
We're doing this. We're doing this. We're doing this. We're doing this. We're doing this. We're doing this. Heck yeah. Okay.
Well, chat, we will definitely be back to this game. Yeah, we'll probably continue this tomorrow morning. I have gone ahead and said this, and I'm going to go ahead and say it again. I don't want to play this and Control Resonance at the same time.
I'm going to finish this game before we start our Control Resonance run. However, we are doing a two-hour sponsor stream tomorrow of Control Resonance, so we'll kind of start it tomorrow. But that being said, we are going to go ahead and continue the playthrough after this.
