## Summary

In this interview, Adrián Saenz talks with Samuel, a 19-year-old from Colombia who dropped out of university to pursue dropshipping. Samuel shares his journey from borrowing 100,000 pesos from his dad to making over $9,000 with a single product, and the mindset shifts that changed his business.

### Key Points

- **Starting Capital from a Prayer** [00:01] — Samuel prayed for 100,000 pesos (about $25) and his dad lent it to him the next day, which became his starting capital for dropshipping.
- **First Viral Video** [00:13] — After two weeks with no views, a video got 4 million views but resulted in only one sale, highlighting the low conversion in Latin America.
- **Dropping Out of University** [01:11] — Samuel started university but dropped out to focus on dropshipping, driven by a desire for financial independence.
- **Early Business Ventures** [02:21] — He sold hats via an Instagram shop and later promoted an affiliate course, earning money before discovering dropshipping.
- **Learning from YouTube** [03:36] — He found Adrián's 15-hour dropshipping course on YouTube and started with zero money, using free content to learn.
- **Product Testing with Dropy** [05:03] — He used Dropy to sell an astronaut galaxy projector, initially getting under 2,000 views before a viral breakthrough.
- **Investing in Training** [07:03] — He convinced his mom to put $500 into organic training, but only made 10-12 orders that semester, leading to frustration.
- **Mindset Shift** [08:11] — He decided to follow Mark's advice exactly and stopped focusing on proving himself, which led to his first sale and eventual success.
- **Success with New Product** [09:06] — He made about $9,300 with a new product that got 300,000 views, turning his business around.
- **Payment Methods** [14:48] — He used cash on delivery with Dropy and sometimes Nequi for payments, adapting to customer preferences in Colombia.
- **Advice for Colombians** [20:23] — He says Colombians have a gold mine and should invest in training and follow a proven process, avoiding excuses.

### Conclusion

Samuel's story highlights the importance of mindset, persistence, and following a proven process over seeking validation. His success in Colombia proves that dropshipping can work in Latin America with the right approach.

in Cali, Colombia. I don't know if this will be the first, the last, or somewhere quite a few interviews and my only goal with these interviews is to demonstrate that dropshipping works in Latin America, and especially in
this case in Colombia. It's one of the best countries to sell in, but a real expert I met in person at Efix in Medellín is going to tell us about it. Anyway people don't, so for those who don't know you, who are you? Where are you from?
How old are you? Well, my name is Samuel, I'm from Antioquia, I just turned 19, and here we are. Here we are. Yes, put simply like that. Um, what do
you do for a living, Samuel? What are you doing right now? Uh, this year I started university, but I just dropped out, because I started to really get into dropshipping and all that, but before that I had a
in all that. Okay. What led you to want to start your own business? What led you to look into how to sell online or do dropshipping? So, what did it awaken? What awakened within you? Well, I'm going to be
completely honest with you. Ever since I was little, I've always I've always liked getting lots of things. And obviously, there came a things got more expensive, and I started asking for things I needed for myself, and many
times my parents couldn't afford them. And I thought, of course, if my parents can't afford them, who else is going to be able to get them? So, I think that's main reasons why I started entrepreneurship too, because I
Okay, fine. I mean, after all, you're a young person, right? In a way, right? You're 35 years old, have three children and four houses, you know? It's normal. when did you discover dropshipping?
many years. I started doing something similar to dropshipping, I used to sell hats, then I went to a place called El Centro in Medellín. Okay. So I went downtown, looked for hat suppliers, and created an
Instagram shop, you know. And when people bought from me, I would assemble the photos, it supplier and when people bought from me, I would pay the supplier and give it to Okay. Well, yes, of course. Yes. And then I did
a promotion for an affiliate course but I promoted that course and I also made money with those two things. After I left school, I said, "These next 5 years I'm going to focus
everything." Sorry. How old were you then? Okay. The thing about the caps, like at 15 or 16. Okay. And when I left school, that
same year I couldn't afford to go to university. So at CH GPT I looked up the top 10 books to learn about marketing and I read four by books in a short time and then I said, "Well, I've learned a lot, but
somehow." And I knew Adrián a lot on YouTube, the dropshipping course appeared, about 15 hours long. Well, it was very 15. And I was watching it and I said, well, I
have no money, I have nothing. Until you appeared in that video. Like a being of light there. Phew! No, a little angel. And I already have to give a commission to Adrián Saence. I mean, [laughs] all the food,
I mean, I owe him money, huh? I owe him money. How crazy. And that was around what dates. I would say around February or March of last year, more or less. That's when I started with your content, obviously it was
free from YouTube and I didn't have, I mean, I literally had zero in the account. Then I remember that one day, like on the balcony, I really wanted to do something pray and I said, "My God, give me 100,000 pesos, which is like $5, just
, I don't care." And I got the idea to write to my dad asking him to lend me money. So I wrote to him and the very next day he gave me 100,000 pesos and I said, "Well, now I
have it, I have it ." And I went on Dropy, I went to I found the astronaut that projects Galaxies. Yes, that product is reviewed, well, I mean, it was totally saturated there and I tried it
she used for her daily things, she lent it to me to record after work and the first two weeks I didn't get, I mean, it didn't go over 2000 views on the accounts and in the third week I said, "Ah, I'm going to replicate this
viral video." And that week, that video got 4 million views. Yes. And did you sell any? I sold, I sold a little bit, one, one, what a load of crap.
Oh no, [laughs] no, but when that sale fell through, I was jumping all over the house. It didn't bother me that it was one, but it was just one sale. Holy [ __ ], that sucks. [laughs] Yes, that's true.
Jumping ahead a bit, that is, that was with When did you decide to start the training? What's happening? I kept trying that product, I was like, what happened? With that product, he had
stopped selling and had stopped going viral. And I wrote to you on Instagram done nothing and you gave me something like, well, in Latin America you don't exactly make a lot of money with a video of many views.
swear. I swear. You hated me. Okay. And all the money I was earning I reinvesting. And of course, I spent some money on the advertising training I paid for
Clear. I already had less than when I started already had less than when I started with organic. I had some money to put into advertising and with that money
and with that money I managed to make 200 and with that 200 the semester passed and my mom said to me, "So what, Samuel?" Well, you didn't make see what we're going to do. And me, I just don't like
, and I don't really like studying as something I know I can do now. know I can do now. And I told her, "Mom, I'm just asking you to trust me and put the semester's money into
organic training, which was $500 back then, it was n't much money, but we were in a difficult time and we needed it." So I told her, "Mom, if you trust me, I swear I can do great things, and we put all that
money into training. That semester I didn't sell much, I mean, I did sell, but I hardly sold anything, nothing at all. What's almost nothing? In total, that semester, about 10 or 12 orders. Okay.
And then this year came, and I was obviously incredibly frustrated. December wasn't great either, and my mom said to me, "She says it's either you go to university or you go home?" [laughs] I mean, basically, that's what she told me,
and I said, "I'm going to university, but I'm going to keep going, I mean, I don't care, I don't care." And that's when it kind of clicked in my head, okay? I said, I've been
making very little money for a year, and I'm giving what I think is 100%. I said, "What I think doesn't matter, I'm going to do what "That's what Mark says, and that's it." Whether I think it's good, better, or worse, I don't care. And when I did that, I
made a sale of the product I tested . And because I made a sale, I that had happened to me during the semester. Mark, at that moment I was in my room, I I didn't want to do anything anymore.
going to do it for love, I'm going to do it simply for the pleasure of it. And I tried a new product, a product that I knew a lot about in the niche, and I tried it. I uploaded the first video. The next day I saw that it had 2,000 views,
and I said, well, 2,000 views, let's see how we can fix that. And throughout views, views, views. At the end of the day, it was 300,000 views. end of the day, it was 300,000 views. Wow. From the first video, and with that video,
orders, I started to I wanted to ship everything, but I didn't have any money, So I said, "Oh my God, where are those orders going to be delivered?" But I off. How much did you make with that product? I
How much did you make with that product? I stopped about a month and a half ago. I made about 9,300 . Pretty good. Yeah, pretty good. I want to make a quick point because otherwise people in the comments are going to
Latin America, [laughs] it's fooled us all." No, Latin America, when a viral video doesn't sell that much, compared to, for example, the United States, a video gets 1 million views in the United States and maybe
you make, I'm just going to make this up, $3,000, $1,000. In Spain, you make about 800. In Latin America, that amount drops a lot; it might be $300 or $
decreases a bit. Not much. Well, because of purchasing power, payment gateways, explanation for why I told you it's selling less, because that's how I'm going to keep it less, because that's how I'm going to keep it short here, you know? So, going back to
the day of, "Okay, you've billed almost $10,000, oil salesman, I apologize, okay?" I apologize, but you said two very important things to me. One, I'm going to listen to Mark in everything. Two,
changed. Everything, everything. Everything, everything. Why? I mean, what changed? Because, like, Marco, I was kind of on a bad streak, and honestly, I'd just come from a really, really
bad time, really , really bad. Mostly, some very difficult situations that my family had gone through, and on top of that, there were placed their trust in me, and I wasn't living up to it. I mean, it was like a
mix of stress, of everything. And at one point I said, 'What the heck?' You know what? I mean, I don't know what's going to happen, I don't know n't know if it's going to go well, I don't know if it's going to continue like this for another six months, another
year, but I think I'm doing it trying to get a result, and I'm not really focusing on the process of doing things. Okay, and I said I was just going to do things right and whatever God
And it happened, it happened, it happened, what a coincidence, really. So, I'm going to touch on something. You and I Medellín. In August. In August.
Where were you in this transition in August? Were you already want you to answer. No, no, no, please. Where were you in that August?
Uh, I was very focused on proving to people that I was wrong, because, well, there were a lot of people at my school, and people
me, and I was just focused on proving to them. I was mentally just focused on proving myself, and I wasn't making any money. Then at one point I said, I
validation so I can feel important, feel like I'm really doing things right, that I'm a successful person, but it's kind of empty because I'm fulfilling their goals.
And that's when it clicked for me, and I stopped focusing on proving myself, on the money, but at that time I was at the fitness fair. Look, I apologize, okay? Yes. Right off the bat, just in case. I
remember when I met you, you were incredibly eager, I mean, you came between 40 and 50 times to ask me for advice. mean, you'd show up, ask me something, write it down, leave.
ask me something, write it down, leave again, and so on, constantly for three days. Yes. And I remember, of course, I did n't know you personally then, it was the first time we met in person. I remember saying to my wife, I mean,
this guy, how could he be so eager? I managed to turn things around in the business, I mean, become a millionaire, turn things around in the business, I mean, become a millionaire, [laughs] a millionaire. But I saw you from the bottom of my heart, I saw you lost. Yes, like you had a
lot of desire, a lot, but I saw you with too much anxiety, with a lot of rushing, like you wanted to have everything under control, you wanted wanted to have everything under control, you wanted everything to be done right now, it was very anxious.
know you at all. So, I detected that and I didn't see it as a bad thing because it's a process we've all gone through, but I see you now and I see you much calmer, I see you much more at peace. So, I think it's something you've had to
results helps to calm down, obviously, because it takes the pressure off , but I was wrong, was n't I? The truth is, you're, I mean, you can say it, if I was wrong,
you can say it. Uh, the process to change that was, wow, it Uh, the process to change that was, wow, it was really hard because it's not like I felt, well, I'm going to tell you Here, honestly, I felt too
small, way too small. I was looking for validation everywhere, and feeling small wasn't from there; it came from when I was little. And of course, after 17—well, 17 years, well, whatever— but many years of feeling like you have to
prove yourself to people, of feeling small, that process of changing it... I changed it in three months, but that was really hard, really hard Hard. It's hard. Yes, yes, yes, yes. It's hard. Let's try not to get
sentimental, or we'll all cry, okay? If you want, we can cry, I repeat. Yes, yes, no problem [laughs]. Speaking a little about business, that obviously you always have to round up.
What payment method are you using for cash on delivery? Are you selling? Well, it was a hybrid, but really everything I did prepayment, it was because people would tell me they could pay me through NOA right away
okay. So it's been a hybrid, but more because people were asking for it mention. Yes. You told me you were going to do the other products. Okay.
And with the other product I tried, it was like two weeks ago that happened. The second one I think got 300,000 as well. Wow. And I sold about 20 units, and that's how I reached
Top. Top. Okay . have an interview. [laughs] Every day. Interview, interview, interview so you can go for it. So, cash on delivery with Dropy in
Colombia and sometimes through Nequi or Nequi in Colombia. way possible. Yes, in every way. I even shipped one all the way to the Holy crap, that's great. I had to pay, well, I went with a
lot of money for the shipping, but I delivered it to him. It was a new experience. Well, good. Top-notch learning. I'm seeing a big difference in you. I mean, I remember at Efix, I
I'm not talking to the same Samuel. You're a different person and time has passed, well, it's been a while, but not much . If you had that Samuel from . If you had that Samuel from a year ago, what would you say to him?
Uh, honestly, you know what? I think I would n't say anything to him. I think I would do what he . I swear. Okay. Because he was feeling very [clears throat] let's start crying.
Okay, let's start crying Together. That Samuel felt so small his whole life, and I know that all he needed was a hug, and he'd already asked for it . I would have given it to you gladly. You
serious. I mean, I notice the... Yes, good. I mean the plan. Yes, we've now, you know?" With the hugs, we ruin the whole interview. I'm not telling you this in a way that makes you wonder, because look, let's tell an
anecdote. Does that sound good to you? Yes. You know, you know where I'm going with this, you know I am very direct, for better or for worse. Just like I'm telling you that I 'm not talking to the same Samuel, the old Samuel did some pretty
bad things. So, do you want to tell us about the call where you gave me no. Uh, I'm going to look bad, but oh well, at , you know? In other words, with your phased strategy you're saying that
something had to be changed at each point. And I said, he says that, ah, but at this point the lighting changed, I mean, insignificant things. And I thought I was when they see my account, they're going to congratulate me, they'll say everything to me. [laughs]
When I gave you the bill, you closed it. I gave you the bill, you closed it. [laughs] happened? I'm a son of a [ __ ], huh? I
remember, I mean, I don't know how I got myself into such a big problem . I would have, I would have that account and I remember it like it was yesterday. I promise you, okay? Of course, I saw Samuel, I've got your eye on me , we
met, you know? I've got your eye on me. Okay, I see Samuel. Okay, I'm going to check the account, Samuel's videos. I give it a try and I find myself. All the videos are the same. A disaster. [laughs] There was no change, nothing. And I said,
closed it. [laughs] And I closed it. Okay, I have an insult me. It helped you, Or did you screw up, my mother? No, I was a little stupid, so I didn't really pay attention to you
, [laughs] to be honest, but I realized more when I was everything wrong and that I had to do things right again than in that call, n't doing it right. He
that's exactly it. I am tough, but at the same time I also try to help, and I am not a person who does not accept not working, that is, not working. You knew what you had to
You knew there were strategies, that there were things to do, you knew it, but you didn't do it because of your bad mindset, because of what happens to all of us. I know it's my fault, I know I don't do it because I'm lazy, for whatever reason.
So, I'm sometimes tough, but it's because it helps people wake up. , but well, that's all in the past now, right? Unclear. And with what you say, well,
for me, the most important thing is really the mindset of the person you become in the world, in this world which is very lonely, but yes, it's a very
n't it? I'll say it again, and I'm not trying to be annoying, but I'm noticing a very, very big change in the way you speak, in the way you think . And I'm happy, truly very much so. Look, money comes and
Hey, today you bill more, tomorrow you bill less, but what you have here never goes away Never. I find that incredible. For all your fellow Colombians who have too many excuses, I'm asking this to everyone because there are
two countries in Latin America, two that make a lot of excuses, in my opinion, based on my experience as a mentor and a self-proclaimed YouTuber, okay? What are Yes. Okay. Argentinians, to be 100% honest,
have it harder. It costs considerably more. Payment gateways harder time. But you Colombians have a gold mine in Colombia; it someone comes to me, "No, it's just that it can't be done in Colombia ." And I say, "Oh my God." What would you
say to them? The truth is, the only thing I would tell them is that first, they should buy the lie form. ahead. That they listen to you in everything.
Whether they're on YouTube or in training, which is much better, they need to listen to you in everything. In other words, don't get carried away. What happened to me, which I was going to account, with that product of the astronaut that Galaxia projects, that was
the first product, I had 10,000 followers and I said, I am the best. And then I thought I had to do it, I was already notebook, I didn't check anything. So,
first, they should work a lot on their mindset, on the issue of blocks, which I think is the most important thing, and that they should listen and I those two things. Pretty easy.
It's easy, it's easy, but when you're there, you don't see it anywhere, not even a Yas account like they told you, a call until you realize it. Yes. There comes a moment in life when you're talking [ __ ] and your

very grateful to you because I was debating whether to tell you this or not, but Marbosa is what it is for someone in Colombia who lives here in very difficult times, but can you imagine what it's like in Colombia for
