Jessica Stansbury jessica is an amazing [0:29] influencer and entrepreneur who helps [0:31] online business owners grow their [0:32] businesses using video I'm going to be [0:35] sharing five of the YouTube SEO tips [0:37] right here in this video and then after [0:38] you finish this video you can head over [0:40] to Jessica's video which I will link in [0:42] the description bar below and you can [0:44] find the other 5 tips so that you can [0:46] learn everything you need to know about [0:47] YouTube SEO okay [0:49] so let's jump into the tips first you [0:51] need to understand that how YouTube [0:53] decides which videos to rank is based on [0:56] keywords people are looking for [0:58] different topics on YouTube and they're [1:00] also watching videos and seeing videos [1:02] suggested in the sidebar you need to use [1:04] specific words that people are looking [1:06] for or interested in in your videos [1:08] title description and tags so that you [1:10] will show up in the search and on that [1:12] sidebar and more people will watch your [1:14] video the first step to doing this is to [1:16] make sure that you find some really good [1:18] keywords that people are actually [1:19] interested in and actually searching for [1:21] so first [1:22] brainstorm a whole bunch of different [1:24] ideas about what people might be [1:26] searching for think about the real words [1:27] that people would use if they were [1:29] looking for a video like yours after [1:31] you've brainstormed a big list of words [1:33] that people might be using then it's [1:34] time to start doing a little bit of [1:36] research to figure out which of those [1:37] words are actually the most popular the [1:39] simplest way to do this is just to start [1:41] typing these different keywords into the [1:43] search bar on YouTube or on Google when [1:46] you do this you'll see a bunch of [1:47] suggested searches pop up and these are [1:49] some of the things that people are [1:50] searching for the most often when you [1:52] find these terms that people are using a [1:54] whole lot you'll want to make sure that [1:56] you use those words in your videos title [1:58] description and tags another way to [2:00] figure out exactly which keywords you [2:02] should be focusing on is to use a free [2:04] extension called [2:05] tube buddy - buddy is just a browser [2:07] extension that you can install on [2:08] whatever browser you're using [2:10] it will give you data on different [2:12] search terms when you're doing research [2:13] on YouTube so with two buddy installed [2:15] when I search for a keyword on YouTube [2:17] I see this little box pop up over on the [2:20] side of the page and it gives me a rank [2:22] for that keyword it tells me how good of [2:24] a keyword that is based on how popular [2:27] it is how many people are searching for [2:28] it and how competitive it is basically [2:31] you want to be looking for keywords that [2:33] have lots of people searching for them [2:35] but aren't very competitive now the [2:36] reality is that most keywords that [2:39] people are searching for are going to be [2:41] fairly competitive so you're just [2:42] looking to find a good balance if you [2:44] can find one that is moderately popular [2:46] and moderately competitive then that's [2:48] actually probably a pretty good keyword [2:50] to go after but ideally you're looking [2:52] for one that is very popular and not [2:54] very competitive as your channel grows [2:56] in popularity you'll be able to go after [2:57] more and more competitive keywords and [3:00] you'll be able to get better and better [3:01] rankings for your videos when you're [3:03] just starting out it's better to target [3:05] those less competitive keywords that [3:07] maybe aren't quite as popular but at [3:08] least you'll be able to rank for and [3:10] start to get some traction on YouTube [3:11] okay so my second tip is one that I [3:13] haven't heard anyone talking about so if [3:15] you do this you will definitely be ahead [3:17] of the game and this is to use your [3:19] competitors video titles as tags on your [3:22] own video so when you're doing your [3:24] keyword research and you're looking at [3:26] these different keywords that you'd like [3:27] to rank for and the sort of videos that [3:29] if people are interested in them [3:31] they would also be interested in the [3:32] video that you are making so if you want [3:34] to do is copy the title of that video [3:36] exactly and then paste it into the tags [3:39] section of your video and also into the [3:42] bottom part of the description of your [3:44] video that way when someone is watching [3:45] that video on YouTube your video will be [3:47] much more likely to show up in the [3:49] suggested video side column and you will [3:51] get a lot more views because of it and [3:53] if you want to be even more sneaky about [3:55] it that you can open up a private [3:56] browser in your computer go to the [3:58] competitors video and then see what [4:00] videos show up in the side column when [4:03] you're watching their video and you [4:04] could use some of the more popular [4:06] videos that are popping up on that [4:07] sidebar as even more tags on your own [4:10] video tip number three is to use two [4:12] buddy to see what keywords your [4:14] competitors are successfully targeting [4:15] so whenever you're watching a video on [4:17] youtube and you have two buddy installed [4:19] over on [4:20] right hand side you will see a list of [4:22] all of the tags that are on that video [4:24] and tubebuddy will even tell you how [4:26] well that video is ranking for those [4:28] different tags so if you see a video [4:29] that's really similar to the video that [4:31] you're making and the channel that made [4:34] it has a similar number of subscribers [4:36] as you do and maybe their videos are [4:38] doing about as well as your videos are [4:40] normally doing then that gives you a [4:42] good idea that you can probably rank for [4:44] those same keywords if you optimize your [4:46] video around those keywords so if you're [4:48] making a video about how to train your [4:50] puppy and you go and watch a video that [4:52] has that tail how to train your puppy [4:54] and you look at the tags over on the [4:56] side and you see that they are ranking [4:57] number five for the keyword puppy [5:00] training tips then you know that puppy [5:02] training tips is probably a good keyword [5:04] for you to go after okay now it's time [5:06] for tip number four YouTube likes to [5:08] reward creators who keep people on [5:11] YouTube for longer so when someone is [5:13] watching one of your videos if they then [5:15] go and watch another of your videos [5:16] right after it then YouTube thinks oh [5:18] wow this channel is doing a great job [5:20] people are interested in watching more [5:22] content and that means that they are [5:23] interested in being on YouTube to watch [5:25] this creators content so if you can do [5:27] something to make people want to watch [5:29] more of your videos right after they [5:31] watch one of your videos then YouTube [5:33] will actually want to give you a boost [5:35] in the rankings because they want your [5:36] channel to do better so it sneaky little [5:38] way that you can do this is to use your [5:40] own name and/or channel name in the tags [5:43] section of your video here's what this [5:45] does this means that YouTube thinks that [5:47] your videos are even more closely [5:49] related to each other because it sees [5:51] that they have these different keywords [5:53] that are in common so it sees that on [5:55] one of your videos your name is in the [5:57] tags and in another of your videos your [5:58] name is in the tags and that way when [6:00] someone's watching one of your video [6:01] your other videos are even more likely [6:03] to show up in those suggested videos [6:05] which means that someone is more likely [6:07] to watch one of your videos after the [6:09] video if they're already watching so not [6:11] only does this mean that YouTube will [6:12] favor your channel but it also means [6:14] that you're getting more views right [6:15] then and there because people are going [6:17] to watch more of your videos in a row [6:18] tip number five is also kind of sneaky [6:21] which makes me feel like maybe I should [6:22] call this video like sneaky tips to rank [6:24] number one on YouTube but anyway my [6:26] fifth tip for you is to not only put the [6:29] tags [6:30] in the actual tags box where YouTube [6:32] tells you to put your tags but also copy [6:34] them from there and paste them into the [6:35] very bottom part of your video's [6:37] description and that way you get all of [6:39] your keywords both into the description [6:41] and into the tags also rather than [6:43] trying to stuff all those keywords and [6:45] make them sound natural somehow in the [6:47] video's description you can just put it [6:48] all the way down at the bottom and just [6:50] write tags and then put a whole list of [6:52] the tags after that and that way anyone [6:54] sees it they just think oh those are the [6:56] tags and they won't think twice about it [6:58] so I can't let you go without giving you [7:00] a bonus tip or maybe two the first bonus [7:02] tip is just make sure that you keep in [7:04] mind that main big picture strategy [7:06] which is you want to find keywords that [7:09] have a high searched volume and low [7:11] competition the more of those keywords [7:12] you can find the better your videos will [7:14] do and bonus tip number two is decide [7:17] exactly what keywords you're going to go [7:18] after with your video before you film [7:20] your video so that as you make your [7:22] video you can actually say the keywords [7:24] in your video because YouTube is [7:26] listening to you their algorithm and [7:28] software has gotten a lot more advanced [7:30] and they can actually listen to your [7:32] videos now even if you don't have [7:33] subtitles or closed captions on your [7:36] video they can still listen to your [7:38] video at least in part to try to figure [7:40] out exactly what your video is about so [7:42] if you say your keywords in your video [7:44] of course in a natural conversational [7:47] way then this will actually help your [7:48] video rank better on YouTube okay so [7:51] that is all the tips I have for you in [7:52] this video but remember now
