# The Secret to 1 Million Views: The Fourth Element You're Ignoring

> Source: [The Secret to 1 Million Views: The Fourth Element You're Ignoring](https://youtube.com/watch?v=ePrFTUC3Ibo)

## Summary

This video reveals a powerful but often overlooked fourth element in YouTube success: the presentation stage between the idea and the thumbnail/title. By reframing a core idea into a compelling story, creators can dramatically boost views, as demonstrated by a channel that hit 1 million views in a month.

### Key Points

- **The Big Jump** [00:00] — A channel achieved 1 million views in a month by fixing one thing most YouTubers ignore.
- **The Fourth Element** [00:30] — Beyond idea, thumbnail, and title, there's a presentation stage that transforms how an idea is communicated.
- **Guess the Video Game** [01:00] — Three famous videos were given new titles/thumbnails to illustrate how presentation changes clickability.
- **Revealing the Originals** [02:30] — The videos were: 'Why McDonald's Ice Cream Machines Are Always Broken', 'I Spent 50 Hours in Solitary Confinement', and 'We Sent Garlic Bread to the Edge of Space'.
- **Tom Scott's Strategy** [03:30] — Tom Scott turned a scientific concept (hot air rising) into a story about garlic bread, making it highly clickable.
- **Presentation Options** [05:30] — For a video about completing level 3 of Streets of Rage, options include: how-to, mistakes to avoid, speedrun challenge, or a story about someone else's achievement.
- **Real-Life Example** [07:00] — Clark's video 'I Read 300 Self-Help Books and They All Make the Same 3 Points' got 1.4 million views by presenting the idea as a story.

### Conclusion

The presentation stage is a critical missing piece that can transform a video's performance. By focusing on how you present your idea before designing thumbnails and titles, you can significantly increase views and retention.

to tell you that fixing this one thing could be the difference between zero and one million views would you try it well this channel did and that big jump on the graph is the result one million views in a month but what did they change well it was the result of them discovering the thing you're probably ignoring along with 90 of other YouTubers and not using this can totally recognize it so what did they do well in this video I'm going to reveal this incredibly powerful tool and then I'm going to show you how you can harness it and how we used it to generate one million views on another Channel's video fast very fast but to start can you guess what these three things are you have to focus on if you want YouTube views if you can't your Channel's in trouble because I made them pretty obvious so let's reveal them simple right what if I told you that actually there's a fourth thing that most channels don't know exist and understanding it is what causes results like I've just shown you and it goes in between your idea and your thumbnail go on have a guess you can't well to reveal it to you I want to play a quick game called guess the famous YouTube video what I've done is taken some very famous videos and made new thumbnails and titles for them and all you have to do is guess what the original video was I'll throw in a few Clues too because this is going to be challenging all right so video one I've renamed it how to make a franchise more profitable now the original video had over 10 million views and Chuck in a few visual clues about what the original was any guesses okay video two originally had over 100 million views and I've renamed it how to enjoy spending time on your own and there's a few visual Clues to help you along now that is a tough one and then the final one and by the way if you're feeling brave feel free to comment your answers below before I reveal them and it's called the impact of cold temperature on food and the original of this video had 58 million views I'm going to give you a few visual Clues as to what it is now you're never gonna guess that one okay so what in the name of Brian G Johnson is going on here well let me reveal to you what the original videos were and then I'll explain so this first video drum roll please you should have said it was why McDonald's ice cream machines are always broken by YouTube superhuman Johnny Harris and then next up we have this video drum roll please I spent 50 hours in solitary confinement and then we have the final video which was drum Rock no hang on saxophone solo please and that was by Tom Scott and a video called we sent garlic bread to the edge of space and then ate it so let's reveal what's going on here and then I'll go deeper to show you how to take advantage of this with a real life example so to start I'm going to Target scientific YouTuber Tom Scott's video as it's probably the most accurate example of this in play now Tom Scott doesn't actually know this but I've had a hidden camera in his office for years now so to reveal this powerful views tool let's watch back the planning session of this video to show you how he solves the massive problem you might have okay humble servants what video ideas have you got for me I think we should make a video about how hot air can push things up to space we can't do that because all of those videos where they say they sent things into space they only ever send people to the edge of space you idiot children children we must stay calm we do not want a repeat of last time sorry sir Tom what about if we talk people about how cold space was these are fabulous ideas but what have I told you about ideas a great video isn't all about the idea but the way the idea is presented oh that's right so what about this let will work out a really fun way to show them but we don't stop there what if we focused the thumbnail and title on the fun thing we did rather than the information we're trying to teach people but how can we possibly show that space is cold when you send things into space you don't actually send things into space and teach people about fertile air patterns garlic bread oh no this again wait he's on to something we'll send the garlic bread into space everyone loves the stuff it's not too scientific that it'll scare the people off who aren't interested in science and even better after the video we can eat it but how can we possibly title a video like that easy we'll just show the thing we did it's so strange people want to click on it to find out why and what happened you're a genius sir Tom and now we disco and that is the fourth piece of the puzzle that sits in between your idea and your thumbnail you can have a great idea and you can make great thumbnails and titles yet still get no results the thing most people ignore is how you present your idea before you package it so Tom presents his idea which was a scientific video that's basically about how hot air causes things to rise into a story about garlic bread and then the thumbnail design and the title came after resulting in a way more clickable story so right now you're probably thinking to yourself oh I'm starting to get this so now I'm going to show you something that might make you realize that you don't by demonstrating to you how to actually present an idea live well not live but you know what I mean and then I'll back it up with some proof that this works and show you how we use it to generate millions of views fast so the first step in this process is coming up with the demo videos idea so let's just say the idea for this video is the creator wants to show people how to complete level 3 of 80s computer game Streets of Rage oh and by the way don't worry if you're not one of the millennial nerds who knows what that is you're still going to be able to get results with this system now instead of just jumping straight to coming up with the thumbnail and title we need to take the idea to the presentation stage that you have now unlocked this is where we now find the most interesting way to present it for clicks and retention so the first way we could present this video could be by making it a simple how-to video it just shows people the step-by-step process of completing level three the second way could be based around the three mistakes that stop people completing it and the third would be a challenge where you try and complete level 3 in world record breaking time and then the fourth way could be a story about someone else who achieves something amazing in the game every single one of these videos is exactly the same idea show people how to complete level three they just find different and more interesting ways to do it and let me tell you a secret if you want retention like that the more story based option will do it and for that reason the speedrun challenge sounds like the most clickable and most fun and would be a really simple way to show people how to complete the level and then next we would move on to make the thumbnail entitled do you see why this presentation stage is so powerful most people think this is the thumbnail and title stage or it is the ideas stage but I believe splitting it into its own category forces you to find better ways to communicate your ideas which then should make how you package your thumbnail and title easier and more effective too so let's look at the really simple way we use this fourth tool to help send that video crazy it started at stage one where myself and Clark had a quick research to see if we could find some patterns of videos that have done well before in his Niche and what we discovered was videos about books perform great so there was the idea we were going to make a video about books of some kind and then I said Clark have you read any good books you could talk about and Clark being one of the most chill guys on the planet said oh dude I've read like 300. so we had a little search for books he could make his videos about and came up with a few ways to present the idea but when we looked at them none of them really had that oomph we wanted and then Clark came out with probably the most beautiful sentence of 2022. he said what's funny about the 300 books I've read is they all pretty much make this same three points I said Clark you're a flipping genius that's how we present this video it's the story of what you learned reading 300 self-help books that's such a huge amount to read and your realization sounds like a really interesting and intriguing story so with the presentation of the idea now decided the title and thumbnail concept became so much easier to come up with and Clark did an amazing job on it resulting in Wham 1.4 million views but there's still a problem there are four other areas you have to master to ensure you can get the growth so watch this video next to see if you already have them or if you need to put more effort into different areas of them to hit your goal
