# Silent Hill: Townfall

> Source: [Silent Hill: Townfall](https://youtube.com/watch?v=7lQ_zRqtrys)

## Summary

In this gameplay session, the streamer explores a hospital area in a horror game, grappling with frustrating enemy AI and navigation challenges. Throughout the video, they discuss game design flaws, share tactical tips, and engage with their chat about the game's difficulty and atmosphere.

### Key Points

- **Difficulty Flashlight Mechanic** [04:38] — On Veteran difficulty, enemies can see the player's flashlight in dark areas, but this doesn't apply on Normal difficulty, so the streamer switched to Normal for a more playable experience.
- **Stealth Game Design Critique** [11:15] — The area felt broken due to an enemy that stood by a door for over two minutes, highlighting that good stealth games reset enemy actions quickly. The streamer recommends Alien Isolation as a positive example of fast resetting.
- **Potential AI Bug** [12:12] — Unlike other enemies, this specific enemy doesn't return to patrol after detecting the player, leading the streamer to believe the AI may be bugged.
- **Multiple Blood Items** [13:08] — The player has two different bloods—Sarah Watson and Leslie Greer—likely used to unlock doors in different areas, showing the game's multiple-key progression system.
- **Game's Horror Approach** [17:27] — Silent Hill relies on atmospheric dread rather than jump scares, and the first-person perspective enhances immersion, making it effective at keeping the world interesting.
- **Gameplay Feels More Resident Evil** [23:05] — The streamer notes that the game becomes more combat-focused and 'badass' in some sections, feeling more like Resident Evil than traditional Silent Hill stealth horror.
- **Game Length Estimate** [26:17] — Based on hearing the game is about 15 hours long, the streamer estimates they're roughly a third into the game, with about five alleys left.
- **Difficulty Setting Preference** [32:22] — The streamer declares they won't change the difficulty until done with the game, as the gameplay isn't tight enough to warrant higher difficulty, and they prefer easy mode to enjoy the story.

Oh good, there's normal dudes too?
Thank you.
I am not coming out of the closet, so you can just go away.
Bro, is the sound effect bugged? Oh! No it's not! He's right there!
This is getting hyper-aggroed. I have no idea what we're supposed to do here, man. Holy shit!
Dude, this area is weird, man. This is, like, there ain't nothing silent here about this.
This area is just, like, there's just enemies everywhere. Nothing you can do. Okay, we'll cover the rest of the roof later. Let's go back down here first.
We got to figure this bottom area out, man. that was a mess second round of this
oh shit
Thank you.
Thank you.
Dude, what? This is... This area's kind of silly, man. Can I turn off the flashlight? So, on this difficulty, as far as I know, let me confirm this. I don't think the flashlight matters.
If we go to Veteran, it says, enemies can also see the player flashlight, alerting them in dark areas. So, we went down to normal, because Veteran was not very fun.
So, theoretically, now they should not have to worry about my stuff there. I'm gonna do this real quick. I'm gonna do this real quick, because there's something weird with this area. I'm gonna drop it a story.
We're gonna reload this area, and I'm kind of curious here. I'm wondering if the difficulty changes how long the monsters, like, search for you. Because they're just...
That's the second time now the monster just stood in front of the door for, like, minutes. Look at that.
He's already walking away, bro. See, that feels good Is he like back on patrol?
Oh wait, he's coming back If he goes that way, we're good Go that way Go that way
That way Are you trying to sneak up on me, dog?
Because it ain't going to work. Okay, this area sucks.
I don't know what else to say. This sucks. Come on, man. This is bullshit.
I literally can't do anything. I don't even know, is he out? He's not outside, is he?
He's just right outside of this waiting for me. Oh, come on, dude!
This is so dumb! You can't make a game like this if your enemies are going to act like this. This is the antithesis of a good time.
Alright, we're just gonna run around. I'm just gonna get through this area. Okay, we need a key. Is this where it is? Let's look in there.
Oh, are we in the incident? What?
okay no key in here maybe I should get the key in a different part of the hospital
Oh, oh, oh. Ward W Master Key. Okay, where am I here? I'm in the very bottom room. Okay.
Okay, I think the holo is not going to do it.
Alright. I don't know if that's played or not, so we're going to keep playing it when we do this.
Oh, we start, okay, we need to go into the right.
What's the name of this enemy?
Scott T. George? Okay, cool. The Amazing Fall of Batman? Alright, those are all good names. Thank you, Chad.
Oh, there we go. I think we need to get to 11 now.
What side is it on? Oh god we still have to go to 11.
Yeah that area felt broken. I don't know how else to say it. That's the first time in this game where it just felt like the game didn't know what kind of game it was. Like, anytime you have a stealth game and there's going to be a time where they walk up and, like, look at you and a thing,
like, what separates a good stealth game from a bad stealth game is how fast those actions reset. Because it sucks feeling like, you know, oh, I failed, gotta hide. So the faster you get back in the action, the better.
So the fact that we had to sit there for, what, like, two plus minutes and the dude was just walking around in front of us? Like, why do you, like, that's the worst kind of game. Just like this. Like that's just a waste of your time.
It really bugs me when games like this do that. That's one of the things I loved about Alien Isolation is it resets so quickly. Yeah I think it's bugged. I do think it's bugged. It's because in other areas of this game when that happens the enemies like stay there for like 10 seconds and then walk away.
And they then go back to their patrol. So I don't know what it's with that specific guy. He doesn't seem to act like the other one. Flashes of light hand waves, nothing moves.
All right, so we have... how many bloods do we have now? You have two different bloods. You have Sarah Watson and Leslie Greer. So one of these probably opens the door on the other side that we can go to.
We still need to go around and get the south areas. Yeah, we need to get these two areas here. Okay, let's do that now.
Oh, we can get out here, right? Yeah, let's go out here.
I don't want to go back to the basement. No, thank you. Is this like the area where you keep your mod key? Oh, in my sub-basement? No, no, no, no.
No, this is way too nice. Oh, we're on story, that's right. I was like, how did he die?
Okay, I want to put it back on normal, but we need an auto-save for that. What is this area? Oh, we're back in the main area. Okay. I don't think, was there anything important in 4 and 3? We'll go back down there in a minute.
What a time. We went in here, right? Yeah. Okay, so out of curiosity, what does this patient have wrong with them?
Oh, pupil's non-reactive, so this is the girl. Let's see. No. Okay.
Okay, the other guy? Oh, wait. Leslie. They're both ladies.
Oh God.
Of course it's locked.
Dang it.
Trying to get into a door but I can't open it.
Empty IV bag. Oh bummer. I'll return more blood. Okay.
Is this game scary? Scary? There have been moments of panic, yes, for sure. Silent Hill has never really been about jump scares. but it does a very good job keeping the world interesting.
I love the first person part of this game. I think that was a great call. Really adds to the immersion. Blood, what do you think this is? Code Dawn, Blood of the Silver Walker?
Yes, that's a great call. Is this, oh, it's 96 again, isn't it? Yeah. That's the amount of people that died. We think. We're pretty sure.
Oh, bro, what? What is this? Uh-oh. Uh.
Oh, it's probably such a good idea. Is it? All over, nothing left to cool.
Oh my God.
I'm sorry.
Is that a guy right there? Yeah, get out of here.
Okay. I believe that man was in your kitchen.
He was. And he needed to get out of my kitchen. Okay, that goes back up. Do we want to go back up? Do we need to go back up?
I feel like we should finish exploring down here. Okay. Okay.
For another metal bar, awesome.
You are a magical cloud of glass That? Weird I wonder if that's our character but that's still weird
Sure.
Okay.
Hmm. Yeah, let me know what it... Is this been auto-saving?
I want to switch it back, but if I switch it back, it's going to undo the save. I don't know where I'm looking to see the little auto-save icon. I think I've been missing it.
Is door 2 locked? Wait. Oh, it's not a lot. It's from the Oak Devil. Let's go up this way. Can you check out the load screen?
Okay, this was five minutes ago. Okay. Sure.
Although I gotta admit, it's kinda fun playing this game, it's really badass. Gotta fit, gotta fit. All of a sudden the game is more Resident Evil than Silent Hill.
Feels good man. hands. Okay, so, oh, we never got this thing in the bottom. Right there. I thought we got
into that room though. Let's go down and check that real quick. Yeah, let's go check that. Uh, so to do that we got to go back to the stairs, I think.
Over to the left, okay. This map looks like a fever dream? Yes. Oh!
Because we pressed the elevator. Word scatter body complies.
Nice touch with the map. I can't go this way.
Wait, I can't go anyway. They just killed me off down there. If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball That a great tip
That's a great tip. That's a really good one. Oh, we got to get a lot. We got to get out. Okay.
Hey Reese, hey everyone, how far in are we?
First of all, hi. Second of all, I want to say we're probably like a third? I've heard it's about 15 hours.
Plane's about five alleys.
What did we just hear?
Oh, come on, bro. I really do think this guy's funny.
I think this guy's funny. It seems to be just one enemy. Thank you.
How in the flipping heck do I get out of here?
Oh, okay. Well, that's good. Let's do this. Okay, so put us here. Yeah, how am I actually getting out of here again? It's
not the stairs, right? Or maybe it is the stairs. We have to get out the stairway. Okay, we go up here.
And then from here, we can't go across. Can we go out the right side? Oh, there's a block now.
Hmm. Just walk out? Well, normally we would, but I think it sealed us in. So we normally came in this way, but now there's two locked doors there.
When we did the turning thing, that must have done something, but I don't know what it did.
Oh, you saw me?
Hey! What? How did you see me there?
Oh, god damn it, dude!
Um, I have no clue where we're supposed to go right now. We're not dealing with y'all, I'm sorry.
I don't think we can kill you, right?
Okay.
Okay.
Really, dude, really? That is the dumbest shit dude, that is the dumbest shit. Oh my god
I'm not changing it until we're done with this game. Yep, this is not a game for difficulty for me. Nope Nope
This gameplay is not tight enough for me to want to do it on any type of difficulty. Need some fart gas, that's right. Need more fart gas, guys.
Do you think I get a team before I... Oh please do, absolutely. So the older I get and the more I play games on easy difficulty, the more I need you to really, like, tear into me. Absolutely. All right, let's see.
So what did the valve do? We don't have to go back downstairs, right? I don't think it opened the door on the way out to our right. So where are we going next?
What are we doing next? Can I use the valve again? No. Don't come in here, that would just be the most ridiculous shit ever. You have no reason to come in here.
Oh, hold on, chat.
