# Modern Features in World of Warcraft Forever

> Source: [Modern Features in World of Warcraft Forever](https://youtube.com/watch?v=2LQqZTg3m4I)

## Summary

This video provides a comprehensive list of modern features found in the WoW Forever beta, also known as Classic Plus. The creator, MrGM, highlights both expected and surprising additions, from quality-of-life improvements like the ping system and modern auction house to more contentious changes like the Black Market Auction House and Stormwind Harbor. The video is based on beta gameplay up to level 20, with a promise of a follow-up if more features are discovered at max level.

### Key Points

- **Ping System** [01:12] — The ping system, originally from Dragonflight, allows quick pings for areas, NPCs, health, and spells. It includes various ping types like 'look here', 'warning', 'attack', 'on my way', and 'assist'. The creator found it useful in dungeons.
- **World Markers** [01:57] — World markers, originally added in Cataclysm, are now in WoW Forever. They are expected to help with boss mechanics since add-ons will be restricted.
- **Achievements** [02:39] — Achievements are tied to the new legacy system. Points fill out a legacy tree that provides gameplay improvements for you and your alts. They are account-wide and mostly basic, like completing dungeons or leveling professions.
- **Transmog** [03:34] — Transmog is included and can be toggled on or off. It uses the modern slot-based system, costs gold to set, and switching between outfits is free. Situations (outfits for specific contexts) and collections are also included.
- **New Models** [05:15] — New HD models can be toggled on or off from the character screen, barbershop, or in-game settings. Older models retain original customization, while newer models have additions like eye color and eyebrows.
- **Bags and Reagent Slot** [06:08] — The combined bag system combines all bags into one, and a reagent bag slot is added. Ammo and quivers are not yet supported in the reagent slot.
- **Modern Auction House** [06:47] — The modern auction house is included, consolidating items and allowing players to purchase amounts directly. The creator considers it a massive improvement over the classic version.
- **Edit Mode** [07:25] — Edit mode allows players to customize the UI layout, with a modern-looking classic UI by default.
- **Damage Meter and Cooldown Manager** [07:37] — A built-in damage meter is available from the start, and a cooldown manager allows tracking cooldowns via an inbuilt UI.
- **Calendar** [08:13] — The calendar is now built-in, showing in-game events and usable by guilds or communities to plan activities.
- **Currency Tab** [08:37] — A currency tab is included, currently holding only five currencies: Darkmoon Prize tickets, Honor Points, Merchant's Favor, Rank Points, and Tarnish.
- **Equipment Manager** [09:02] — The equipment manager allows saving pre-made gear sets, useful with dual spec.
- **Discord Integration** [09:16] — Discord integration links guild chat with a Discord server and channel, relaying messages both ways.
- **Collections** [09:56] — Collections include mounts, appearances, pets, and toys. Most are hidden until collected, and items don't have sources listed, encouraging discovery.
- **Map Improvements** [10:55] — The map includes a waypoint system, built-in coordinates, and quests displayed next to the map, combining the quest log and map UI.
- **Quest Improvements** [11:34] — Quest blobs are shown on the map for old and new quests, with the option to disable them. The quest limit is increased to 40, and quest sharing can be done from anywhere.
- **Guild Banks** [12:29] — Guild banks are included, eliminating the need for a dedicated guild bank character.
- **Barbershop** [12:42] — The barbershop allows character recustomization, including gender swap and HD/SD model toggle.
- **Black Market Auction House** [13:33] — The Black Market Auction House, located in Riverglade, allows bidding on rare items like TCG items and Death Charger's reins. Its mechanics are unclear, and it may be personal per character.
- **Stormwind Harbor** [14:30] — Stormwind Harbor is added, with a boat to Darkshore, allowing night elves to skip the 'dreaded Rettlin's Run'.

### Conclusion

WoW Forever is embracing a surprising number of modern features, from quality-of-life tools like the ping system and modern auction house to more contentious additions like the Black Market Auction House and Stormwind Harbor. The beta shows a thoughtful approach with many features being optional toggles, catering to both purists and those seeking convenience.

## Transcript

Hello there and welcome back to another video. Today we're going to talk about WoW Forever and more specifically we're going to talk about modern features in WoW Forever. Yes, this is Classic Plus and yes, it does have quite a few modern features.
Now some of these are things that people wanted, some of them are things that people didn't even ask for but ended up with. But it's a very interesting list and it's actually a lot bigger than I was expecting. So I hope you're ready, but before we jump into that, guys, I do want to let you know that I am streaming on Twitch.tv.com.
If you want to see me stream World of Warcraft, WoW Forever Beta, WoW Forever Launch, go over on Twitch.tv.com. Right, so yes, the World of Warcraft Forever Beta is live. I think it's been about two weeks or so after recording this video, and I've been loving it.
It is everything I've ever wanted, and I've just been having such a good time over on the beta. launch is on November 4th, so we still have a little bit of time left on the beta to discover and find out things, but this is my list of modern features in WoW Forever. Obviously,
this is only from what I've seen on the beta up to level 20. There might be some extra stuff at higher level, maybe a catalyst in Hyjal. I'm joking, definitely not. But if there's enough things at max level once we get there to make another video, I'll make a follow-up to this,
but yeah, there's a lot on this list. So let's just jump into it with the first thing, and that the ping system. So this was originally added in patch 10.1.7 of Dragonflight, and this system allows you to quickly ping an area, NPC, a character, your health, and various spells.
When you're pinging an area, you can kind of do different pings, things like look here, warning, attack, on my way, assist, and as mentioned, you can ping your health and spells to save the cooldown and the amount of health you've got remaining. Now, I did predict this in a previous
video and I was actually pretty surprised to see it in, but I will say, people use it a lot. I did a dungeon on the beta and we did actually use it quite a bit and it felt pretty great. I really liked it actually. So yeah, the ping system is in World of Warcraft Forever. Kind of adjacent to the
ping system, another thing which is in World of Warcraft Forever is world markers. So these were never in Classic Era, these were actually added in Cataclysm originally. And these are essentially markers you can leave on the floor and you can use these in dungeons or raids or whatever you
want really just to kind of put them on the floor there to mark an area now add-ons will be restricted in WoW forever so this is definitely going to help with some of the mechanics where add-ons won't be able to tell you various boss tactics so yeah they've kind of restricted it like they have in
retail but they're not giving built-in boss mechanics like they do in retail so there's literally going to be nothing maybe some timers through bigwigs and whatever but for the most part not a lot so one lock is definitely going to help with that really cool to see them in I think it's
a great feature. Let me know. This is maybe contentious. I'm not really sure. Moving on to something completely different. Achievements. Yeah, achievements are kind of in WoW Forever. So achievements in Forever work a little bit different. This is built into the new legacy
system. The points you get from them aren't quite like the achievements that you know. Some of them give one point and some of them give none. The one points are used to fill out the new legacy tree, which gives you various gameplay improvements for you and your alts. That's a
whole another video that we don't need to get into, but essentially, yes, this is achievement, but there's not, like, you know, hug 15 frogs or whatever, like, it's mostly just, like, complete these dungeons, complete these raids, level these professions, level these characters,
just kind of basic stuff, maybe over time it will evolve and change, but as of right now, it's pretty basic, this is also account-wide as well, so all those achievements and progress and things are account-wide, so that's cool to see, so yeah, achievements are in WoW Forever,
kind of. Another thing that's in WoW Forever is Transmog. Yeah, this was actually super unexpected. Now this can be toggled on or off for you, so if you have it toggled off, you're not going to see other people's Transmog,
and you're not going to see your Transmog either. So that's a nice little sort of addition there that they added for people that don want to use it Now it does use the modern style of settings for Transmog so this does mean that you transmog the slot instead of a specific item And just like in modern it costs gold to set the transmog in the outfit slot
and you can purchase more outfit slots for gold as well, but it is free to switch between them. So you can have, like, two outfits set up, and you can just switch freely between them. They also have the custom set feature and the situations.
So situations are coming as well. These are essentially outfits you can set to various situations. things like locations, so like in a rest area, characters for the extreme in the world, dungeons, raids, battlegrounds, etc.
All different types of movement, like unmounted, swimming, ground mount. It also does say flying mount, but let's just ignore that. Then you've got specialization, you've got weather, you've got time of day, and you can mix and match these for various things, so that's really cool. One little added thing on Transmog as well is that collections will be a thing,
so you will be collecting items regardless whether or not you have Transmog on or off. I did actually have a little bit of concerns about this, but they did announce when an item drops in a dungeon, everybody in the party does get the appearance, regardless of whether or not you actually loot the item, which is a really great change and a really good solution to kind of avoiding ninja looting for appearances.
So, yeah, shout out to the WoW dev team for that one, because that's really cool. Moving on, we also have new models in WoW Forever. Yes, this, again, can be toggled on or off and is a personal choice. I, for one, am an SD enjoyer, but that's fine if you're an HD enjoyer.
This could be done from the character screen, the barbershop, more on that in a minute, and even in the in-game settings with a simple reload, and the older models retain their original customization, whereas the newer models do have some additions which were added, I believe, in Shadowlands.
But not all of them, like things like eye color, eyebrows, and things like that, is something you can toggle on the HD model, but you can't do it on the SU model, which is, yeah, pretty interesting tech there. Now, this mostly only changes the character models,
but it does change a few other random creatures in the world, like goblins for example so if you see a goblin and you've got hd on they're going to be an hd goblin which is pretty interesting i wonder what that means maybe nothing or maybe something i
don't know you can think about it uh yeah new models are in the game and it's a toggle which is really nice moving on to some smaller things here let's talk about bags so they have the combined bag system this is something from retail this can be toggled on or off and essentially just
combines your bags into one big lump this is something that add-ons have been doing forever and it is built into the game in retail, and it is coming in WoW Forever as well. Sticking with bags, we also have a slot for a reagent bag.
This is also something from retail. You can put various reagent bags in here, like skinning bags, herbals and bags, etc., but you can also put soul bags in here for warlocks. As of the recording of this, you can't put your ammo or quivers in there, unfortunately,
but Blizzard, please. That would be really nice. I'd like to see that. So, yeah, reagent bag slot coming in WoW Forever. Another thing coming is the Modern Auction House. Now, this was very unexpected, but in my opinion, a very welcome change.
I love the modern auction house. I think it's such a massive improvement. Now, the modern auction house kind of consolidates items, so you're not scrolling through an endless list of things for like two silver and different various stamps and things like that.
You simply just have the item and you can click it and then you just purchase the various amounts that you would like to have. It's a massive functionality improvement over the classic version. And personally, I really like it. A lot of people use auction house add-ons anyway.
and it is really nice to see this kind of modern feature coming in. Again, let me know in the comments, what do you think of the modern auction house? So next up, edit mode. So edit mode is in WoW Forever. By default, you have sort of a modern-looking classic UI,
but you can use the edit mode to swap and move UI elements as you please. This was in classic era, so if you're a classic era player, you're probably used to this by now. I really like the edit mode. I think it's great. It's got really good functionality, and it's nice to see it in WoW Forever.
Another thing is the damage meter. Yeah, there is a built-in damage meter from literally midnight in WoW Forever. So add will still work but they will use the data that the game uses But if you want to use a damage meter which is built into the game that is available to you Speaking of things built in we also have the cooldown manager this was super surprising to see this essentially makes it so you can track various cooldowns straight from
an inbuilt UI this is something that people used to make through recores and things like that this version can be heavily customized to how you want it to work and look and sound this was added to the modern game recently and is making its way over to WoW forever. Another thing is the calendar
The calendar was not present in Classic Era. There was various add-ons for it, but it wasn't there by default. This is a great feature. It just shows in-game events and can be used by guilds or communities to plan activities. And you can just see the date.
If you get so lost in the source and you need to know what day of the week it is, check the calendar. It's right there. We've also got a currency tab in WoW Forever. So this is actually only going to be used for five currencies as of beta, so not too bad.
These include Darkmoon Prize tickets, Honor Points, Merchant's Favor, Rank Points, whatever they are. and tarnish, undermine, real. So not many currencies are going to be on this currency tab. I love the currency tab. It saves bag space.
Maybe that's not so classic. I don't know. But it is nice that it's not like a ton of things on here. Only really five as of later. We also have the equipment manager. This is where you can save pre-made sets of armor. And this is built straight into the UI.
This is, again, something that we've seen through add-ons over the years. And it is just built into the game natively in WoW Forever, which is cool. And this is really good if you're running multiple specs, because there is dual spec in WoW Forever as well. So, yeah, you can just kind of swap and change your gear sets using the equipment manager, which is nice.
Our next addition is Discord integration. Again, this is something I did kind of predict was going to be in the game, and it makes sense. This was added to retail in 12.1, and this links your guild chat with a Discord server and channel.
So it just relays the messages from your guild chat into a channel and vice versa. So if you type in Discord, it will type it in game as well, which is personally a really good feature. I know some people are against it. I think it's great to keep connected, especially in a classic WoW environment where things can kind of pop up out of nowhere, which is kind of fun.
So yeah, Discord integration is coming in WoW Forever. The next thing is collections. So yes, this is a big one. So instead of having items in your bag, you will learn them, similar to retail.
So these include mounts, appearances, pets, and toys. Now, a good change that's in Forever is that the majority of them are hidden until collected. So once you've unlocked the cat, you can't just go through them and look up things to find.
You actually need to go out and discover them, and I love that. And all of the items don't have any sources either, so it's not going to say, like, hey, this cat pet comes from this vendor. It's actually just going to show the cat, which is cool. So a little bit more discovery to be had there.
You know, people saying, oh, people are just going to day mine it or whatever. Like, maybe they will, perhaps, but still, it's cool. If you're in-game and you just, you know, you can't just scroll through and be like, oh my goodness, this mountain is incredible, because you're not going to see it, which is cool. A few little changes to the map also. This includes the waypoint system, so this is where you can set a waypoint on the map, which you can select and follow in-game, and these can be shared with players as well. This is a feature from the modern game, which needs a little bit more work. It'd be nice to do more than one waypoint system, and this is something that TomTom have been doing forever, so still a nice feature built into the game.
We've also got built-in map coordinates, which is literally brand new in modern, so that's really cool. Again, something that add-ons done for years, but now is in the game by default. The other thing that I really liked and for years was looking for an add-on in Classic WoW,
and this is quests next to the map. So in Classic, you have a separate UI for your quest and your map, so you kind of have to switch between them. But in Forever, it combines them, like you see in retail, where you have your map and you have your quest log.
There is various add-ons to split them up again, because I know a lot of people do like that. but personally I love this change it's one of my favorite things but yeah just a minor thing I suppose sticking with quests we have a few things here so quest blobs are in so this is actually
huge so quest blobs on the map for old and new quests in WoW Forever now this is something you previously download an add like questy for um so it basically just tells you where to go for a lot of the time now not always like now if there like a quest where you need to find someone it just kind of does the general area which is nice so it does keep it pretty vague for the most part
This also can be disabled, so if you are an exploration enjoyer and a struggle enjoyer, then yes, you can disable this. But yeah, it is really cool to see quest logs being in by default.
Another thing with quests is that the quest limit has been increased from 20 to 40, so you can hold way more quests, do a lot more pre-questing if you want to, and quest sharing can actually be done from anywhere and not just close by.
So yeah, if you go into a dungeon and your friends are like miles and miles away, you can just share quests as much as you like and you should be able to pick them up. So yeah, that's an interesting change, which we kind of found by accident when we were going to Hall of Fame. So yeah, interesting.
Another modern feature in WoW Forever is guild banks. So guilds will be able to use a bank instead of having a dedicated character for guild items. This was originally added in the Burned Crusade, but it's made its way to WoW Forever. I haven't seen any pushback on this, which is cool.
So, yeah, guild banks are in. Another very interesting change in WoW Forever is the barbershop. Yeah, so I did mention this earlier, but, yeah, you'll be able to recustomize your character in the barbershop in major cities.
This was added, obviously, in Wrath of Lichling, I believe, and it's pretty interesting. I didn't expect that. In a classic era world, I guess, in a sense, I didn't expect the barbershop, but I'm happy with the barbershop. I think that's great. It's kind of annoying when you make your character for the first time
and you're really not happy with it, like, a couple years down the line. So, yeah, with the barbershop, you can swap and change everything you like. You can also swap your gender as well, if you like. And, obviously, with the changes in WoW Forever, you can also turn off HD and SD models. So, interesting.
Speaking of interesting, now, this is my favorite and most contentious part, which people are still discussing now. Maybe Blizzard will say something about it. And this is the Black Market Auction House. Yeah, I didn't see anyone talking about this in regards to wanting this.
So, this is actually located in the Riverglade Zone, which is one of the new zones of WoW Forever. Now, this is a pretty crazy addition. You can use the Black Market Orchid House to bid on rare items. Things that we've seen so far are things like pets, rare mounts, TCG items,
various items like the dungeon sets. Some of the mounts we've seen are like Death Charger's reins, which is insane. Now, the one thing that we're not really sure on at the moment is whether or not this is personal, because we've kind of had a thing in the beta where people can look at it on one character
and see a certain amount of items, and then people on another character on the same realm can look at it and see different items. So we kind of need Blizzard to intervene here and say something about this and how it works, what's the philosophy, why it's in. Obviously, it's a gold sink of sorts,
but it is very interesting to see. Maybe the items are placeholder as well. Yeah, it's a bit of a random addition to the game, but there's got to be some method to the madness here. It just seems a bit too specific. Our final change is really big.
This is a huge one, and this is Stormwind Harbour. Yep, Stormwind did not have a harbour in Classic WoW. Now, what they've done with Stormwind Harbor in Forever, they've actually added a boat to Darktroll, making it possible for night elves to skip the dreaded Rettlin's Run.
Controversial, right? Like, is that a good thing? Is that a bad thing? Either way, I like Stormwind Harbor. I like the fact that it's in. There's a lot more potential there. You know, if they do add new zones or islands or whatever, you can get boats straight to them. I like that.
And it looks awesome with the new water effects as well, so that's really cool. And that's my list. That is all of the modern features that I found in World of Warcraft Forever. Let me know in the comments your thoughts on this. Let me know if there are any modern features that you know. There is various things with classes,
but that could be like a whole other video in itself. And as said, if there is enough for another video, we'll make another video down the line to see what else has been added. Guys, thank you very much for watching. Please leave a like on this video if you liked it, and subscribe to the channel if you haven't already.
