[00:01] many might not care to even watch this, but I wanted to take a moment to analyze the nuance of fan service in Mushoku Tensei. A recent Mushoku Tensei post beginning of this month, hitting almost 2 million views, over 600 comments, and [00:15] countless quote retweets sparked controversy around not just Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation, but also fan service's existence within anime itself. Bringing back the conversation that has become all too common in the [00:27] 2020s, should fan service even exist within anime and manga? Before we get into the broader topic of fan service and its existence within Japanese media, we need to focus in on this post in particular that many, even some Mushoku [00:41] Tensei fans, seem to be completely unaware of after the episode came out years ago. The original poster asked a question, "What is this armor supposed to be for?" At a glance, people will say it's a go-to female armor design within [00:54] games, the iconic bikini armor. That armor that is constantly said that's many gamers have been fighting for for the last 10 years, that same armor. That characters, by the way, in video games. [01:08] told though, the design of the armor is likely inspired by bikini armor because the author of Mushoku Tensei does love his RPGs. I feel like now is a very good Rifujin, has made it very clear that he writes what he wants for himself, and [01:24] will never bend the knee to those wanting to control his story. This is about how rare it is for writers or artists to have a backbone to stand up for what they believe in, instead of ballying down to outrage culture in the [01:37] 2020s. In fact, just a week ago, Rifujin even doubled down on his stance, and antis. There's been a recent hate wave around Mushoku Tensei season 3, and it's clear those complaining don't even watch the show to begin with. Though, there's [01:51] even been mass downvotes from groups trying to make it seem like nobody likes the series. However, on Japanese rankings, Mushoku Tensei is taking the top spots. So, once again proving how you shouldn't take IMDb ratings too [02:03] seriously or MyAnimeList at all. Anyways, back into the offer. Rifujin is into lots of controversies because of his blunt writing style that refuses to sugarcoat dark topics. He even dedicated a huge chunk of his story, Mushoku [02:18] Tensei, to focus on Rudy's ED, erectile dysfunction, as a main plot point after he was traumatized and felt worthless. Sure, it's easy to laugh at the absurdity of focusing on such a topic, but this reveals just how Rifujin writes [02:32] truly unique material within a genre of storytelling that you just don't see often. We are in an age where you'll see the same reincarnated in another world story copy and pasted over and over and over and over again, which is the new [02:46] same story, but with a very little differences, which is why it's so refreshing how Mushoku Tensei doesn't follow the same exact formula. Which in part is why I think the series has garnered such an infamous reputation and [02:59] time for me to do a little bit of a shameless plug here, but if you're watching it, I would really appreciate it if you left a like on the video and next upload. And if you really, really do like me, please subscribe because it [03:13] in the algorithm and more people will discover my content. Now, with that, let's get back into the video. Now that I've established Rifujin as an author, I the main point that started this video. What is this armor supposed to be for? [03:28] when this scene happened established that there was a mass teleportation event. People throughout an entire region just teleported randomly to different points around the entire planet. To put this in perspective, we [03:41] saw one of our main female characters being teleported to a random point in the sky and she started falling. She only survived thanks to magic, and if not for that, it would have marked the end for her. What the scene implies this [03:53] teleportation likely many died in a could have just been teleported to the bottom of the ocean or right into a monster's den with no way out. For those that were lucky enough to survive the [04:06] disorientated and have no idea where exactly they are. Cut off from their this is extremely dangerous for a variety of reasons even if you monsters or demons within the world of Mushoku Tensei. Bandits and slave [04:22] traders are a real thing in the world of Mushoku Tensei. Many people that were teleported and lucky to survive were instantly enslaved and much worse happened to them. Think of the Celestial Dragons from One Piece but allowed to go [04:35] completely into berserk territory. Now, you're probably wondering, why am I even saying this to begin with since the topic stems from bikini armor fan service. The woman in the post is actually the sister of a girl that is [04:48] frightened of men and has immense trauma. When the teleportation incident happened, she was a victim of slave trading and other horrendous acts. So, to protect her sister and make sure nobody focuses their eyes ever on her, [05:00] she took it upon herself to wear alluring armor that would attract the eyes of everyone around. It's basically like she is aggroing everyone in a raid and protecting the DPS and healer in the back. So, her sister vowed to dress like [05:13] comfortable with being able to have some eyes on her. The entire situation with her is seriously tragic and the fact that many seem to not understand this subtle but horrifying storytelling makes me incredibly sad. So, I hope this video [05:26] had you appreciate the details that Rifujin puts into his work and even with the side characters that don't have an active role within the story. Now, with the post being answered, we can finally talk about fan service itself as a [05:38] whole. Truthfully, even if the armor had no backstory or significance to the take anything away from the world of Mushoku Tensei or my enjoyment of the series. Rifujin writes what he wants and I appreciate it all for doing that at [05:53] story and he is allowed to do whatever he wants with his playground. It was established very early on that his story will not be for everyone and will upset many readers or watchers. Those that managed to make it this deep into the [06:06] story are either fans or those that don't actually even watch the anime or Regardless, fan service is ingrained within Japanese media and you can go back decades to discover it's been in manga for Shonen Jump. It's absurd how [06:19] being shown in a alluring way on a piece of paper. Don't know why society in the last decade is so hell-bent on censoring or removing this content but completely fine with rampant violence within media. Since we're on the topic of fan service, [06:33] anyone notice the just amount of feet content that we've gotten for season 3 already? Like there is a full-blown segment ending song for season 3 where you see Eris have like a full-blown feet shot. Like it is highly detailed and you [06:46] know whoever did that is a mega fan of feet. And I mean I just I think in and I think that's probably one of the big reasons but I just I definitely out anyone else notice in season 3 that [07:00] being like unwash. I know it was like a needs to bathe and stuff. But it's like whoever was like drawing and animating the Eris segments, I don't think they were just into feet but I honestly think [07:14] something because there was just a lot of detail and a lot of the different Eris scenes with like her body sweat and everything that was just like, okay, I see what you are. I mean, people like to say I'm down bad but these animators for [07:28] next level. It's clear that they definitely are down bad for Eris as a character and they have been waiting to draw and animate her for a very long already noticed, I really love Mushoku [07:42] It's one of the reasons why I dedicated so much time even making this video series to talk about. And so hopefully all of you did enjoy this video and the this. I know this isn't my normal format, but hopefully you guys did have [07:56] fun watching this the entire time. And do let me know truthfully if you would Anyways, if you enjoyed this video format and would like more like this in the future, do let me know by commenting down below on this video and leaving a [08:08] like to help support me.
