What if you were excellent at everything? In a fantasy world where specializing is king, what if you wanted to be a swordsman who buffed your own weapons, but the hero's party, you know, just wanted an enchanter who only enchants,
and then they kick you out? Well, you would have this. Today is day six of me giving my impressions of the new anime from winter 2026 and ranking their first episode accordingly. This is Jack of All Trades, Party of None.
And I feel like I am going to need to continually specify that I am talking about Jack of All Trades, Party of None, because otherwise nearly everything that I say about this show could be applied to at least one other nearly identical show.
The broad strokes are all there. The red mage protagonist, the kicked out of the hero's party, the near instant joining up with another group who suddenly respects their abilities. I'm sure down the line we're going to get the old party crawling back
and giving our protagonist the honor of adventuring with them again when they realize how great he was at his job and how much they suck now. What has been setting this series apart, though, is a mentality that others have while adventuring here, and that is that there
is a focus on the specializing of rules. Like usually in these anime adventurers sticking to their jobs as it was is just kind of a fact of the world and not something that we focus on like so many other RPG tropes but here there is like internal lore as to why
this system has been set up. Mostly though it now just seems to be there for our protagonist to show how he wants to be different for one reason or another. On the one hand I agree with him, you know, you might be the healer of a party but if everyone is healed, everyone has shields,
everyone is buffed to heaven and back, are you just supposed to stand there? No! If your primary job is handled, you start hitting the DPS. I don't care if your DPS is only like 20 a second or something pitifully low, if you can down a boss any faster by doing something even by a fraction
of a second, then you should. The problem here is that I worry this Kirito looking mofo is going to take it a step too far into arrogant territory. Having party of none in the title kind of hints
at this. Our protagonist might become a super adventurer who can do it all. The point of a red mage is to be versatile, but not to be specifically better than any of the specialized classes at
those individual things. This, however, just seems to be like our protagonist wants to be able to do everything and also to be the best at everything, which is just no. C-tier.
