## Transcript

Hello, Simon Cardi from IGN here at
Summer GameFest with Michael Hy and we
have seen a little sneak peek at
Resident Evil Veronica. I say a sneak
peek. We've not seen anything anyone
else hasn't seen in the world apart from
that trailer. Are you a big Code
Veronica fan? I am on record saying that
Code Veronica was my favorite classic
Resident Evil. Uh but my opinion has
changed as I re have revisited them and
all that, but I do think that this is
the one that needs the most revisiting.
I guess you could say from that classic
Resident Evil pantheon, I suppose. And
the fact that Code Veronica ties into
the Raccoon City saga is going to help
connect what we do have for the more
modern remakes right now. So, I do think
it's an interesting project and I think
this is something that is needed. And uh
we had a Q&A with the producer and
nothing else was shown behind closed
doors. Like you said, the trailer that
was shown at the Summer GameFest
showcase is what all the all we saw.
It's all what you have saw saw back
there, but we did get some questions in.
And so we have a lot of new information
about Veronica, even though it hasn't
been like physically shown to us.
>> Yeah, I think one of maybe the biggest
headlines is that tease we were shown
was very modern Resident Evil in as much
as it was first person. I was like, "Oh,
are they doing Veronica in third
person?" But no, had it confirmed this
is a completely third person game like
the original. And it's interesting that
the teaser is in first person, but we're
going to play the game in third person,
but it makes sense because Veronica is
quite actionheavy at times. And you kind
of want that perspective, I think.
>> Yeah, absolutely. And I think, yeah,
there was a perception like when I first
saw the trailer, I was thinking, "Oh,
this is going to be like Resident Evil 7
or it's going to be be like um Grace's
sections in Reququum and they're going
to do more of the horror elements." And
I was like, "That's not really what Code
Veronica was originally about." And then
so we asked the producer straight up
like, "Is this a first person or a third
person game?" He said, "It's a third
person game. It's action focused. It's
from the team that worked on Resident
Evil 2 remake and Resident Evil 4
remake." So, there is a bit of a I think
there might have been a misunderstanding
there if you haven't uh gotten this
information, which is what we're here to
give y'all. But he did say that, you
know, think of this closer to Resident
Evil 2 remake. This does star Claire
Redfield and she was playable in
Resident Evil 2 remake. So, he said
think of that, but there are going to be
new gameplay elements on top of that. Of
course, he wasn't at liberty to talk
about them quite yet cuz it's still very
early on, but we should expect that kind
of game. Yeah, I didn't have it
confirmed if dual wielding is back, but
it sounds like they're going to kind of
they're going to evolve the Resident
Evil formula again. You know, like in
Reququum, Leon can do things he couldn't
do in four. So, they're going to take
that with these characters as well.
Obviously, might not be as proficient in
combat as Leon because who is?
>> Yeah.
>> But, you know, I'm I'm intrigued to see
what they're going to do with this one.
And the producer did say in my session
as well, he very much treats Code Vernon
like one of the mainline games. It's
essentially part of the main story
despite not having a number. So, it's
good to see that this is getting like
the full remake treatment that we've
seen in the past. And it all looks very
exciting to me.
>> Yeah. I mean, like to me, it's exciting
because again, I've I I remember playing
this game on the original Dreamcast and
uh there are a lot of things that I
don't necessarily remember about it
because I played it when I was much too
young to be playing Resident Evil games
for sure. But you had mentioned to me
that uh there are some pretty
questionable elements with the story and
characters in Code Veronica. And
obviously in the modern day, you
probably want to revisit those things
and your group was able to get a
question about that, right?
>> Yes. Obviously, I don't want to spoil it
cuz for some people, you know, this will
be the first time they see this story,
but there are elements of, you know,
there's gender politics at play in the
original and we obviously live in a
different time now, so they may have to
adjust how they approach that story.
They did say they're still obviously in
development on this game. So, they
haven't actually locked in what they're
doing with these topics yet. So, they
want to go deeper, they said, into, you
know, the mindset of some of the
characters. Maybe explain what's going
on with them a bit more rather than just
present some characters as,
for lack of a better word, something to
fear, if you know what I mean. So, I'd
be interested to see how they handle
that. they kind of have to approach it
in a different way, I think, for it to
be viable in 2027 when this game is
supposedly coming out. So, we'll be
interested to see what they do with
that. At least they very much sounded
like they're taking that feedback on
board and looking into what they can do
with the story.
>> But that makes sense because Resident
Evil Veronica dropping the code
Veronica. If if you're wondering why
they dropped code, uh the producer said
that they're trying to get in line with
the naming conventions of all the
previous Resident Evils in the modern
sense where you have like Resident Evil
7 was Biohazard, Resident Evil 8 was
village, Resident Evil 9 was Reququum.
So, uh they're following that logic
right there. Uh so, but it is an
adaptation of Code Veronica. It's like a
reimagining of it. I I'm getting the
impression that, you know, when you play
RE2 remake, RE4 remake, they're pretty
close to what those original games were
about when it comes to story. Of course,
there's some tweaking there. Um, not
necessarily retconing, but just like a
more modern vision of what those uh
stories are and tying them closer
together, but I think that I'm under the
impression that Veronica is going to
have a little bit more creative freedom
or creative liberties with what that
story was and how it's going to tie into
everything else.
>> Yeah. I also wonder if they're going to
play into a bit more what they did with
recre as well cuz the original Keronica
very much a game of two halves as one
character then you play as another. Will
they kind of switch between characters
more in this one and kind of tell it in
a bit more of an interesting like way to
do of how it's maybe not so linear this
time around. Be interesting to see. But
like we say at this point we really are
just guessing.
>> Yeah. We're we're we're kind of uh going
off of just what we what we had in a
brief conversation with the producer and
from what we've seen in the trailer. But
um yeah, I mean my thought was that they
would do a sort of recu thing where you
have first person horror style and then
you have third person action style, but
that's that that is not the choice.
>> No, no, you were wrong.
>> Yeah, I was completely wrong about that.
Um, one thing that was funny when we,
someone in our group also asked the
producer about the rev, you know, being
Veronica, does that mean this is the
actual Resident Evil 5? He mentioned
that everybody in every session asked
the same question. But that's
interesting because of the continuation
of the Raccoon City saga like like we
had mentioned earlier. Um, and the way
they tuck in the Roman numeral into
Resident Evil, like the title itself
with the V I I and whatever with Village
as well. Uh, they're trying to be clever
with it. They're kind of being cheeky
with this as well, but the producer did
say that that is not the case. There's
there's being playful.
>> So, there is still a chance of a
Resident Evil 5 remake on the table, I
think. Tough one to tough one to go
with, but hey, we're going Code Veronica
first, which to be honest, I think a lot
of people would prefer.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And like with the
direction that they're taking Resident
Evil, whether it's a new game or a
remake, I think all of these kind of
fall in line. When you got to Resident
Evil 5, it became a very different
thing. And so maybe some point they
should revisit it. Um, but for now, I'm
really excited that we're getting Code
Veronica, aka Resident Evil Veronica, in
some form. So, uh, yeah,
>> hopefully we see more soon. They said
2027. We don't really know when next
year we're going to play this game, but
yeah, that's kind of all we really know
about Resident Evil Veronica here at
Summer GameFest. Keep a lot to IGN where
we'll probably be talking about Resident
Evil for the rest of time.
Don't move,
Claire Redfield.
