[09:48] It's the type of people that buy the car that is often the problem. Much like someone who buys a heritage. It's not necessarily that the heritage is wrong. heritage that's kind of makes you question their character.

[22:02] been following this story? >> Of course. journalist with drive gets pulled over in a Land Rover because uh the flock plate. The license plate had been reported stolen by Land Rover and uh it
[22:18] this license plate stolen. The flight camera caught this license plate. Flock and the surveillance state and all the cameras and all that. That's all true. However, something that no one is talking about in this news story that
[22:31] should absolutely be talked about more is that the state of New Jersey issues multiple license plates with the same license plate number. It's so funny because it's glossed over completely in the story as if like we all know
[22:45] really be able to solve this problem that government has created. Now, the are going to say, "Well, there's a little number on it to distinguish between all the different manufacturer plates. It's basically unreadable from
[22:59] any distance." And that's by design. The plate number is issued to Land Rover and then they put hundreds of these plates all over their cars. And I remember when would happen to us constantly. We would get a ticket in the mail for the
[23:12] Porsche's plate and the car it was indistinguishable which plate it was >> What do you mean? So like like explain so it's like for for the manufacturer plates in New Jersey, it's some code for Range Rover
[23:25] and then some Land Rover's number and then then the plates and this is Jersey manufacturer plates. It's true of a lot of different types of New Jersey little number in the in the middle of the plate. It's only maybe an inch high.
[23:39] at any real distance. The cameras can't read it, but neither can people. And plate number one, plate number two, plate number three for this manufacturer or for this dealer. Even people can get here's a crazy fact also. New Jersey,
[23:53] you can get the same personalized license plate as your wife and as your all distinguished by little numbers. Now, this is not unique to New Jersey. Many US states, including California, including most of New England, issue
[24:07] license plates with the same number to different cars. And I think that this is story that nobody is mentioning. It's not just these manufacturer plates with the little numbers. In a lot of states, the exact same plate number is on
[24:23] different vehicles because it's a different type of plate even though the Like that's >> only Doug would get more worked up over the license plate naming than the fact that they pulled him over with hands on
[24:37] >> But why did that happen? [laughter] Because New Jersey issues not a few but thousands of license plates to completely different vehicles with the
[24:49] same number. [laughter] It's absolutely mindboggling. Maine come to mind as like >> New Hampshire is the worst of all. New because in New Hampshire they issue punctuation marks and they are separate.
[25:03] So if I got Nick, that would be different from Nick with a dash at the end and Nick with a dash at the start and amperand Nick and Nick ampersand and n-k. Those are ALL DIFFERENT LICENSE PLATES
[25:16] IN NEW HAMPSHIRE. It is wild stuff. Totally totally wild. dashes in your license. >> No, but it's nice. It's actually really helpful. You can do so many more variations. You can do variations, but
[25:29] anywhere but New Hampshire, the other states don't recognize that a dash makes states don't recognize that a dash makes a license. and then it has the wrong license plate number or the wrong,
[25:44] WITHOUT THE DASH GETS EVERY ONE OF THOSE parking tickets and camera tickets. This goes way beyond flock. It is unbelievable to me that this happened. It is common practice. Wyoming has done
[25:56] it for years and years and years. It is common practice in a lot of states. of those states, make sure you get a special character cuz you'll get fewer >> Sort of. That's not always true. Most states with special characters, like
[26:09] Virginia, just ignore the special character on the plate. So, if you have Nick with an exclamation point, then you cannot also get Nick without an exclamation point. Only New Hampshire goes so far as to distinguish between
[26:22] them. Uh anyway, the real consumer advice is your license plate number might be on another [laughter] car. And if it is, good luck. noting. So, uh it's not worth getting into. Yep. Readable in the story if
[26:35] >> The actual most outrageous thing to know license plate enthusiasts is flock defending themselves saying that the technology worked correctly. They should not be pleased or defending themselves with how the outcome of the story came.
[26:50] technology didn't work correctly. I mean, Flock had there are a lot of surveillance state and with the cameras beyond, but like the technology worked correctly cuz New Jersey issues thousands of license plates with the
[27:04] same number. It's so funny that that's passed out because there is just a baseline assumption that government is trash and it screws things up. There's >> This isn't this isn't government. It is AI reading license plates and then
[27:19] feeding the police officers information that's not necessarily correct and then them coming out like patting down and and intimidating people based on like a >> If the government is going to use this technology, which in a lot of states
[27:33] they clearly are, um I would start by making sure that every vehicle has a distinct license plate. >> So the technology should not be used based on your own argument. basically. Okay. I I don't disagree with that. If
[27:48] we probably shouldn't be using the technology. >> Having sold SAS products, clock said that it could distinguish. [snorts] >> Yeah. Uh regardless, uh it's been quite a story. People should read up on it.
[28:00] reporting on this has been really leading the char. >> I would like to see the drive report on why like 35 US states issue license plates with the same number to this. you would be the only person that reads the
[28:13] Facebook group. >> Well, I I actually agree with that because I think that the outrage part of the story is flock and that's the part clicks. But I I think there is a legitimate problem and and anybody who's
[28:27] who worked for us had this happen. Colorado issues tons of plates with the same number and he got a ticket for ABC123 on a completely different vehicle in Maryland. It was a speed camera and he was like, "This isn't my car." And
[28:40] plate number and that there was nothing >> Yeah. As [laughter] always, there's some promises made that that makes think they they're going to use that technology and and have consequences tied to it, kind

[33:13] that. That's the only one they have planned as as refreshing. Uh Ford killed the Lightning. Uh obviously uh unclear what some of their plans are. Cadillac uh revealed has had a bunch of new EVs, but they're now working on replacement
[33:28] for the XT5 and the XC6 gas powered cars out the market. It the next set of product planning is going to be really telling what we all we're doing on this pod? This is a great pod. You know why? >> We start off with manual transmission

[01:02:00] the M1, there was the Z8, there was the i8, there was the M4 GTS. They've always tried to capitalize on all these GT3 type cars and they've never been successful. all those cars were kind of flops and um the market seems to
[01:02:14] appreciate the really good examples of just the regular M cars. Like it's It's like, hey, wait a minute. You don't have to make an M4 GTS for us to love you. And that E92 M3 that we sold the other day was proof of that. This car is
[01:02:27] proof of that. There's been a lot of recent high BMW sales that have all kind of pointed to the fact that like there are enthusiasts out there who really do like these cars and want to spend up for them. And where like I am a little
[01:02:40] surprised by this because you could go out and buy a G80 M3 that still has a there's something that people are loving about the slightly smaller size of that F8. Like every M3 gets a little bigger, looks a little worse maybe. Uh there's
[01:02:55] something people are loving clearly about this era, the E90 era, where it's a maybe a little bit more compact, uh a little bit more what you associate as a BMW M3. >> Plus, if you're doing a BMW M3 museum,

[01:09:00] also really love whenever I see the Fast and Furious arcade games. Big fan of Filippo, did you ever do you ever play any of these games? I I mean, have I played it? Sure, but like not regular like Need for Speed or Gran Turismo 3 or
[01:09:15] one where they it ended at the White House and like Bill Clinton was in the roof in a hot tub. >> Like it was very non-pol that was the point. Like it was it was clearly not Hillary. Like it was just random women.
[01:09:29] now. >> I um I played all the video games. I had PlayStation. I Gran Turismo, you know, changed my life. I have a I've been I've been a multi-month Supra owner because of it. I love the R34. I loved all those
[01:09:43] cars. Gran Turismo like really was a big component of that. But my very favorite video game of all time is a g video game called The Getaway. Filippo, do you know >> I did not know this about you. I think I know the video game.
[01:09:56] it was based in London. And this was before there were a lot of video games that sort of you could walk you could like free roam around a map of a place >> and um this video game was based in London and that you could play the story
[01:10:11] line or you could just drive around London and and also the game offered turn signals which very few for the cars which very few games do and for literally hours a day every day I would just drive around London and to the
[01:10:26] point where like even to this day I could probably pretty well guide you around the main central part of London just from my memory and knowledge of the >> Could you do the knowledge the the the the test?
[01:10:38] >> That's basically what it was. Honestly, the taxi drivers didn't even need to uh to to do that. They could just play the game for a few weeks. But I loved this kind of crappy cars in it. And I spent so much time I I got more I got more
[01:10:52] basically any other car. >> Yeah. I want to give a shout out to a couple of uh computer games similar to that. Uh there was bus driver where you drove a bus. There was truck simulator. There was also like a German uh
[01:11:06] drivering test driver like training game where you drove around in an E36 3 series around like Munich or something like that. There there there were some good games of that era. They weren't really playing
[01:11:19] video games, but they were they were they were high. >> You played Truck Simulator? you >> of course not often. I didn't play very But you know what sometimes? >> What' you do with
[01:11:31] >> uh I I did more more bus driver than truck simulator obviously. Felipe? >> Read a lot. Spend time outside. [snorts] >> Uh you'd spend time outside. You just go

[01:12:25] >> Tell the one where your wheel fell off. >> Yeah, I mean that was a good one. Fast to paint my calipers red because a lot of >> 95 Ford Explorer Sport. Sport. >> To be clear, Sport was not sportier. It
[01:12:38] like that. >> It was a coupe. It was a It was a rear >> Was it not four-wheel drive? >> I I took out the floor mats for weight savings. Like I You're creative when you have a limited budget. Those cars back
[01:12:51] in that era, Falippo, were rear wheel drive until you switch them in front. He four-wheel drive. [clears throat] >> You had to enable four-wheel drive. >> My point is that he's driving around in a rearwheel drive, you know, two-door
[01:13:04] >> What happened? >> Uh, I didn't tighten the lug nuts all the way. A wheel flew off at 45 milesPH. Thankfully, it did not hit the oncoming traffic, but it crossed over the medium and then bounced a bunch uh before
[01:13:18] coming off. Did you recover the wheel? >> Yes. Uh, it was not reusable. Like I had to find another KMC 18inch chrome wheel. Uh, they [laughter] had aftermarket wheels on this. Of course, 18s were like
[01:13:31] big at that stage, too. I I wrecked that car five times. Uh, telephone pole twice. Two different poles. >> Snow, ice, just clear. >> One snow and ice. Um, one I avoided an
[01:13:45] accident. and then like like had to hit a telephone pole instead. then. >> Uh well the the lady like turned left in fault. It was the only one of the five. [laughter] Um
[01:13:58] >> you got backed into that one. >> They kept rebuilding it. And so then my sister gets it as a handme-down. And she's like, "Mom, dad, like this car is right." And they're like, "Oh, you just be grateful you have a car. You you're
[01:14:11] spoiled or whatever." Then my dad drives it once. My sister was never allowed to drive it again. [laughter] They immediately traded. Like it just nothing verge of getting totaled, this is why I
[01:14:24] totaled. You do not want it back if it was on life support and then especially times. Like there's no bringing that back, especially a 95 Ford Explorer to anything remotely considering like a factory ride quality again.
[01:14:39] >> Um Fippo, what did what was the stupidest thing you ever did as a teen driver? uh did a lot of donuts in the snow, but that's really stupid. Of course, Wisconsin snows a lot. You got a Honda Pilot, it's got all-wheel drive.
[01:14:52] Do some four-wheel donuts. >> My My stupidest thing was putting three >> Yeah, sounds right. >> And then bumping Nelly as a suburban >> No, but that's what all the suburb >> The amount of attraction I generated

[01:15:37] full license. Then they the all those provisional requirements came after I after like by by within 5 years there were all these rules about you know you have x number of points and and until you're this age and you can't drive at
[01:15:50] passengers in the car but I didn't have any of those rules. Um and so I got that ticket and and it was they they basically I I got sentenced to community service believe it or not >> uh which I did at the public library

[01:16:59] reverses the Countach is the favorite car he owns. Yes. It's the greatest car of all time. Actually, both Doug and Nick have praised the Mercielago as a great value supercar. Yet, no one talks about the Diablo. Why do you and the
[01:17:11] market see the Diablo as less significant or valuable? To start, the valuable than the Mercielago. The Diablo, generally speaking, most the average Mercielago. Generally speaking, Nick, why don't you answer why we're not
[01:17:25] Nick, why don't you answer why we're not bigger Diablo people? >> Ownership experience. Uh, I [laughter] I I pursued a Diablo. I wanted to buy Ed Bullans. I actually drove it. I really loved it. I talked my friend Matt into
[01:17:38] getting a Diablo >> over Mercielago, or at least didn't stop him from it. Um, but they are incredibly The Mercielago is actually a very pleasant, easy ownership experience. There's a few gotchas, but for the most
[01:17:51] part, like it runs when you want it to run. It's pretty well supported, both aftermarket and OEM. The Diablo is in this no man's land of like '9s Lamborghini and like random dudes owning the company, then Chrysler owning the
[01:18:05] company, and like parts bin specials and you basically have to send it to George an oil change. >> Shout out George. >> Um, it is a very exp like you should expect to spend tens of thousands of
[01:18:19] dollars per year on a Diablo maintenance on a Mercy maybe that over the total lifespan. The Countach is is also expensive to own. Or at least that's the theory. It hasn't been my finding, but but and this is the
[01:18:33] second part of your your point probably the Countach is cooler. I mean, I I think I think that the the truth of the matter is the Mercy is is the best of all worlds because it's an awesome crazy in-your-face amazing thing, but it's not
[01:18:47] that bad to own. The Countach is is the coolest. I mean, there's no question. The shape is the coolest. the the history, the the cultural experience. And so to me, it is more worth putting up with the ownership issues. The
[01:18:59] Diablo, while still incredibly cool, is not as cool as the Countach. And while Countach, is not as easy to own as a Mercy. You could look at it as sort of a compromise in between, but when I'm talking about a wedge-shaped Lambo, I'm
[01:19:13] Like, I either want one that I can use a lot like the Mercy or one that is just so insane like the Countach. I love the Diablo. I think the SC30 is amazingly cool. I was on that train long before anybody else.
[01:19:25] And uh I think it's just >> What was that? What was that luck for? >> People have people have talked up the SE30 even though I had a model of it on SE30 even though I had a model of it on my desk when I was in college in 2009.
[01:19:37] >> Anyway, that's how I feel about having diecasts is is claiming I'd be there early. I've also been big on Diablo. I will say the Mercy's on a huge rise right now. I regret selling mine because I think it would be worth more now. Uh
[01:19:50] the other site sold a low mileage but an eager car for well mid700s. Like they there there may be a world in the not so far future where Mercy's are fetching since Countaches have been pretty stagnant. Um I think Diablo have always
[01:20:06] been across the board because there were so many variations like the early ones are rear wheel drive then you had the all-wheel drive then you had the 6os then you had the popup versus nonpops. Both the Countach and Diablo require a
[01:20:18] understand the differences between all the cars. That is certainly true. It's a it's a it's complicated and it requires like it would be like me trying to buy a like a special watch. Like I know nothing and I'd be overwhelmed and I
[01:20:30] presents itself in the Countach and Diablo world. Um I just I to me it's just for the people who I know who have owned them have had a lot of problems honest. Although I think that the be entirely like the general truth, but I
[01:20:48] had multiple owners then. The cars were getting more electronics then. And um Like if I had to choose between the Countach and Diablo to to use to have, it's not even close. Like the I think the Countach is the Countach personally.
[01:21:02] >> I I agree with you. Although I would buy the Diablo if I could get like a nice 6 Countach and I couldn't give you that win if I followed in your footsteps. But >> for me, like as a '9s kid, the Diablo has a special place in my heart. The
[01:21:18] Countach I was still like in Udero, like I I it didn't imprint on that same >> Yeah, I I thought I would feel the same way and then but the time I've spent would. >> No, happy that you're so happy.
[01:21:31] >> To be clear, Diablo still incredibly cool. Just Yeah. a little bit the the in >> from Mark 43 on this same topic from Mark 433. Hi Doug and friends, you're a Countach owner. Why do you think the Tessterosa
[01:21:45] competitor isn't as valuable today or is widely regarded? I think about this a lot actually because Ferraris generally speaking the Ferrari corresponding to the Lamborghini is worth more money in almost every case. the corresponding
[01:22:00] Ferrari to Lamborghini. The Ferrari is worth more money except for Countach Tessterosa where it's not even really close. You can still buy a Tessterosa pretty easily for 200. Countaches are at least four, five, six to a million. No
[01:22:14] Tessterosas coming up to that number. Um, it's kind of surprising and I to me it's because the Countach is way cooler. The Countach is also way less common. There's like 12,000 Tessterosas and there's only 2,000 Countaches.
[01:22:27] >> 12,000 Tessterosas. some well they made them for forever. They made them from them for forever. They made them from like 83 to 95 if you count the F512ms. production for a long time. >> Um Countach I just think is a cooler
[01:22:40] car. It had like it was like the cultural icon of its time in a way the cultural icon of its time in a way the Tessterosa wasn't quite in my mind. >> Fair. I don't disagree with that. >> I I do think that Tessterosa though is
