# My Thoughts on Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2

> Source: [My Thoughts on Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2](https://youtube.com/watch?v=Wa-hNBCZI2A)

## Summary

The video is a personal review of Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2, comparing it to the first season. The creator praises the sequel's hopeful tone and strong ending but criticizes pacing issues and underdeveloped character arcs in the middle episodes.

### Key Points

- **High Expectations for Season 2** [00:02] — The creator notes that expectations for the sequel were extremely high, even higher than for 'Sex 2.0', due to the phenomenon that was Season 1.
- **Season 2 is Fantastic but Less Cohesive** [00:15] — The creator believes Season 2 is fantastic and some may prefer it to Season 1, but for them, Season 1 resonated more emotionally. Season 2 has moments that weren't as cohesive and needed more time to develop.
- **A Hopeful Tone in Night City** [01:23] — Unlike Season 1's doom and gloom, Season 2 introduces a theme of hopefulness and optimism, which is unusual for the Cyberpunk universe. The ending is open-ended with hope, exemplified by the line 'Let's live.'
- **Four Main Characters Introduced** [02:48] — The season follows four main characters: D, a nomad seeking revenge; Roman, a 12-year-old filmmaker; Kingsley, a former hotshot dealing with cyber psychosis; and Talia, a girl using chrome to live despite illness.
- **Roman's Unique Role as Documentarian** [04:26] — Roman's filmmaking is a refreshing human concept in a world obsessed with transcending humanity. He captures the essence of people, allowing their stories to live beyond their ephemeral lives, though he is a weak character himself.
- **Kingsley's Cohesive Storyline** [05:35] — Kingsley's story is considered the most cohesive. On the verge of suicide, he finds a reason to live for his daughter Talia, providing a strong emotional core.
- **Pacing Issues in the Middle** [08:15] — The middle episodes suffer from time jumps and muddled motivations. Important events are fast-forwarded, such as D's acquisition of the AI Capricorn, which gives him god-like powers, making the story feel rushed.
- **D and Capri's Relationship** [10:53] — The relationship between D and the AI Capri is interesting, as she brings him happiness. However, this development happens too quickly, lacking the time to brew and feel earned.
- **Strong Ending and Desire for More** [12:27] — Despite the middle's issues, the ending is extremely strong and leaves room for imagination. The creator expresses a strong desire for more Cyberpunk Edgerunners content.
- **Music Not as Iconic as Season 1** [13:59] — The music in Season 2 is good but doesn't reach the iconic levels of Season 1, such as 'I Want to Stay at Your House'.

## Transcript

Just finished Cyberpunk Edgeunner season two. That was good. That was very good. That hit the spot. Season one of this show was a phenomenon. So, the expectations here for the sequel couldn't have been higher. There were
larger expectations of this than there would be for Sex 2.0. would be for Sex 2.0. And I would say that it is a fantastic a fantastic season that I could definitely see people actually preferring to the
first one. But for my personal taste, one still resonated more and I still think about it like a lot with how emotional it was, especially with the the ending. Of course, season 2 I think is still amazing, but there's a few
things there that I think weren't as cohesive as I would have liked to see and didn't have enough time to really bake. Like some things that I think really should have simmerred and let you marinate on were kind of brushed over
pretty quickly. Like I feel like this would have benefited for maybe like two you a bit more meat on the bones for some really big moments because they just move on from it very fast. So it
didn't have the same oomph that that I would have liked to have seen there. But would have liked to have seen there. But overall, I mean, it is still amazing. And unlike season 1, this does something different that, like I said, I think
going to get into some spoilers here. I'm not going to spoil like the whole show or anything, but one of the big themes here is actually some hopefulness in Night City, which is a foreign concept. This is a lot more hopeful than
season 1, where everything goes tits up in the most catastrophic way imaginable and it's, you know, real tearjerker and it's just doom, gloom, and despair out the wazoo. here. It does leave you with some hope and
It does leave you with some hope and even a bit of optimism, which is just unusual for Cyberpunk. And the way they do it isn't just like happily ever afters or anything. It's very creative. I don't want to spoil that, but when you
finish episode 10, you'll see what I mean, where even though it's not happily ever after, and in fact, the way things end, it's mostly still very sad and uh
very uh unfortunate demises, it leaves itself open-ended with some hope. And one of the final lines from one of the main characters we follow is, one of the main characters we follow is, "Let's live." And that's again something
that you don't really see that kind of attitude in Night City, especially from what the character who says it has gone through throughout the season. So I'm trying to avoid the massive spoilers, but season 2 follows three ma well four
major characters. D, who is a nomad whose entire clan was torched and now he's out on a quest for revenge by any means necessary. He's coming for throats, coming for scalps, and he is using everything he can in order to kill
those responsible, get his answers, find and kill them. We also follow Roman, and which we experience this story and this cast of characters. He's a child. He's
12 years old and he is obsessed with films, movies, which again is something very different in this setting because in Night City, in the cyberpunk world, everyone is trying to ascend to something beyond human. Well, not
everyone, but like that is a big theme and like it's taking the humanity out of living. Whereas Roman filming, making movies is a very like flesh, blood, human concept. He wants to tell these stories and one of his lines early on is
about how these movies give you a means of, you know, escaping into a story. Yeah. Just a very human concept. And he films everything. He teams up with D
pretty early on and starts filming him and he's documenting all of that. and through his camera lens, we get to see what it is to like live and in a certain
way be immortalized in these films because life in the cyberpunk world is ephemeral. People are dying in brutal ways constantly. It is brutal. But Roman
is able to capture the essence of someone and their story to allow it to live beyond their time. And it's really cool the way they explore that. I would say Roman as a character isn't overly interesting compared to the rest of the
cast. He's admittedly kind of a weak character, but what he does is so important and so different that I think it's a really refreshing idea that they well. I just would have liked to have seen Roman himself have a little bit
seen Roman himself have a little bit more to do because he himself is kind of useless throughout a lot of it. He is just a spectator in the truest sense of the word like idally spectating. In fact, I don't think there's any
character that even interacts with him like like physically like bad guys uh you know attacking him or anything like that outside of one scene where they like capture him. But other than that, he's he's basically like just the eye in
the sky really that we're experiencing this story through. Though he directly interacts with the cast. I So even though I don't think he's the strongest character, what he offers here I think is really unique and a cool way of
seeing these stories unfold. One of the other main characters we follow is a guy named Weak Kingsley. He is a former hot shot, but after a stint of cyber
psychosis, going cyber psycho early on in a really cool action sequence, he has to downgrade. And now he's just living life kind of as a frail man, like an older man. and he gets brought into the fold when he learns from his former
fold when he learns from his former lover that he has a daughter that is getting a little too rambunctious with her chrome. She's starting to like shed
all of her mortal parts, her organic parts as they call them. and Avita, that's her name, the the mother of that of that girl's the the mother of their
daughter, brings in Kingsley to try and help her. And his story is, I believe, to be the most cohesive one. He is on the verge of killing himself because he
doesn't know what it is to live weak anymore. Even though that's in his name, he himself has been strong for so long, but now he doesn't have that. and considers killing himself, puts the gun in his mouth, but he finds a reason to
live for his daughter Talia. And that's the other main character we follow. She is stricken with an illness and she uses Chrome to try and experience life Chrome to try and experience life because without it, she's bedridden. So
this cyberware she gets, she's able to actually live. And even though it brings psychosis, to her it's better than the alternative. And she gets brought into
the fold through Roman. Roman's the glue guy. He's connecting all of the characters to one another. He's like [ __ ] AIM, instant messenger. Everyone [ __ ] AIM, instant messenger. Everyone connects through Roman. And I will say
on that note, Talia has this like pseudo romantic interest in Roman that I think romantic interest in Roman that I think is pretty weird. Roman's a 12y old. I don't know how tall how old Talia is supposed to be, but it's not a 12y old.
So that like pseudo romantic relationship, those moments in there are just really peculiar. But I still think all of the characters we follow were really interesting. Even
Roman, who I do think was the weakest of the bunch, all of them had something unique to offer that I found to be pretty different from what you would pretty different from what you would expect in cyberpunk because each one
eventually gets to a point of hopefulness even in the time of like the arrived there I thought was really great. I just wish they spent more time getting there. And what I mean by this is in the middle half, I'd say like for
three episodes, there's a lot of jumping around and a lot of time jumping around it seems. So it's hard to even know exactly what the timeline looks like for some of this because, you know, at the end of one episode, De's, you know, got
end of one episode, De's, you know, got this new pal, a new uh brain pal with really powerful things. And then in the next scene we or in the next episode we I thought you just vanished. It's been so long and it's like well what the
[ __ ] How long has it been? You know, so it's like bouncing around a lot in the motivations start to get a little mudded and then they fast forward through some pretty important things such as D in his pursuit of this information and using
spoilers here because it's another complaint. uh using an AI called complaint. uh using an AI called Capricorn Capri. Uh he gets a hold of this AI that basically gives him god mode. So he starts playing Cyberpunk
with [ __ ] console commands. He's able to hack everything. He's able to instantly fry someone with like an orbital laser or something like a super hacker beam literally incinerates someone. So, he gets these superpowers
and he just goes on like this murderous rampage that Roman is filming in order players that could give him the real information on what happened to his clan and why. And this AI is, I think, just a little ridiculous
is, I think, just a little ridiculous with how strong it is. Like, it is it's able it does telekinesis. It turns into a giant magnet. It's able to do anything. It's like a [ __ ] X-Men super mutant. Like an omega level mutant
here. Like it was a that was just a little extreme I would say with how strong it was. And we don't get a ton from Capricorn. The AI has a lot of personalities all blended into one
construct. And the relationship between D and Capri is a really interesting one because D is whole life is misery and torment. But once he gets Capri, he
smiles and Roman takes notice of that and it becomes something that Roman really wants to see happen again. But it only happens with Capri when the two are together. So like where it gets at the end I think is good with D and Capri
end I think is good with D and Capri like him wanting to just have her in his life. Not because of the power she offers, but just because of like the fun that they have together and like the happiness that they experience just
happiness that they experience just through like cohabilitating the same body. I thought that was a cool idea, but it got there too quickly because at but it got there too quickly because at some point they get separated and then
at like in the course of just 10 minutes in one episode he's like, "You know what? I actually just want to hang out with Capri." So, like it's a if they had would have hit harder. I like the idea a lot, but again, this is what I'm saying.
couple more episodes to give some time for something like that to brew and of nowhere. And there's just a couple more moments throughout the season where sometimes things just get a little muddy and things just like move so quick that
things that are supposed to be important get brushed over and then you have a get to this point now? Like for example, there's another character that gets introduced, Yoopi, and she's basically like recruiting everyone to D about this
resistance, you know, fighting back against Arasaka. And that happens so and Y where she becomes like his right-hand man, even forcing out Roman for a time. That doesn't get explored at all. Like, why the [ __ ] would D even
care what she has to say or what she's doing? Like, it's just there's a couple things that just get a little rocky is all I'm saying. I think out of the main cast, Kingsley's storyline is the most cohesive and the most like straight and
cohesive and the most like straight and narrow, but I I do like pretty much everything like where everything ends up by the end. I really liked. I thought the ending was extremely strong. And I do appreciate that this went in a bit of
a different direction by trying to offer something hopeful where it doesn't just spoon feed you like, oh, yippee, sunshine and rainbows. Woohoo. It it lets you imagine what can happen. Basically, even though
things are a bit grim, even at the end, it leaves itself open to like the what if they, you know, pull through and what if this, you know,
episode. I'm trying not to just [ __ ] ruin it. Like even though I get into think something like this, it's important not to give away something like that. So yeah, I liked season two a lot. For my personal taste though, I
think season one was just more of a complete package that felt more cohesive. Here, there's just a lot of moments in the middle where it does kind moments in the middle where it does kind of get a little bit like a little bit of
wackiness and wonkiness to the story and like where the characters are going and how they got there. But by the end, I think they really stuck a very, very think they really stuck a very, very strong landing. And I really want more
cyberpunk edge runners, man. I want more from this universe. I I I love the world of Cyberpunk. And this is just another great exploration for it, a new uh take
on it that I really liked a lot. Uh something else to point out, I did like much in season 2 as I did in season one. season 1's music became kind of iconic to be any tracks that quite reach some of the levels that season 1 was able to
hit, like I Want to Stay at Your House or anything, but even still, I think it's great. And I do think there's going to be a not small number of people that actually like season 2 more than season 1 because of some of the new themes and
new ideas that they explore here versus in season 1. But for me, I do still like season one more, but I really like season two a lot as well. Anyway, that's season two a lot as well. Anyway, that's really about it.
