# Why You Should Always Buy the Odds for Scratch-Offs Explained

> Source: [Why You Should Always Buy the Odds for Scratch-Offs Explained](https://youtube.com/watch?v=K_Tq9WEcpcw)

## Summary

Captain Scratch explains the importance of playing the odds when buying Florida Lottery scratch-off tickets, using a $130 session as an example. He demonstrates how buying tickets in sequence from the same book increases the chance of a win, though results are not guaranteed.

### Key Points

- **Playing the Odds** [00:03] — Captain Scratch emphasizes buying tickets based on the odds (e.g., 1 in 3.44 for $10 tickets) to increase the chance of a win, rather than randomly picking tickets.
- **Odds and Expectations** [01:10] — He explains that buying the odds doesn't guarantee a win; it only improves the probability. He expects to lose money overall, with winning being a bonus.
- **Example with $10 Tickets** [02:07] — He buys four $10 tickets (odds 1 in 3.44) and gets one win (a money-back special), matching the expected outcome.
- **Example with $30 Tickets** [04:55] — He buys three $30 tickets (odds 1 in 2.61) but all lose, showing that playing the odds doesn't always yield a win.
- **Always Scan Tickets** [06:52] — He advises always scanning tickets using the Florida Lottery app or at the machine to avoid throwing away a winning ticket.
- **Budget and Strategy** [07:36] — He recommends matching ticket quantity to budget (e.g., five $2 tickets for $10) and never chasing losses beyond the budget.

### Conclusion

Playing the odds is a better strategy than random selection, but it does not guarantee wins. The key is to gamble responsibly within your budget and always scan tickets.

## Transcript

Captain Scratch, and today I'm going to explain why it is so important to play the odds on these Florida Lottery scratch-off tickets. Welcome back, my friends, fans, followers, family, and especially my
Florida Lottery scratch-off tickets, and today's lesson, so to speak, is why should you play the odds? All right, so we have a $90 session of
$30 tickets here and a $40 session of $10 ticket $10 tickets here, making $10 ticket $10 tickets here, making today's gamble a total of $130. Now, if $130 is not in your budget, which it's not in most people's budget to gamble,
that's okay. Play the odds in the denomination of the ticket that is within your budget. So, for example, if your budget is $40, get four $10 tickets
diligence and make sure there are available jackpots. This is a newer ticket. So, we're going to play four in a row. It's ticket 41, 42. Oh, let me get them back in order. There we go. 40 through 43. I got these from a
Um And like I mentioned, odds 1 in 3.44, so that's why we have four tickets. We're looking for a win. Now, just because you buy the odds, doesn't guarantee you're going to get a win. I am not making any
guarantees when it comes to lottery whatsoever. for the money roll, the money bag, the 10x, and a $100 burst. So, the theory
about why you should play the odds, um is because it gives you a greater chance of getting a win. You'll notice if if you're a avid scratch watcher, the people that do, um mixes,
let's say they grab one or two of a bunch of tickets, you'll you'll almost always see their yield is much less than average. You're going to have a much better chance of finding a win or possibly a
quality win if you play the odds. So, all right, that first one was a loser. We'll scan that to be sure. Ticket number 41. So, we're expecting
one win out of these four tickets. In real In realistically, I'm expecting every single ticket that I buy to lose. However, that is a possible result, not
my actual expectation. My expectation is that I'm going to get $40 back today. I'm going to get one win from each ticket and it's probably just going to >> [snorts] >> Uh I hope I'm wrong cuz when I'm wrong,
we win more money. However, it's very possible, but not anymore. We just got a match on 14. I was going to say, it's very possible that every ticket I bought could lose. The only time you're going to get any type of guaranteed results is
if you can afford to buy the whole book, in which you should expect >> expect to lose about half your money on every book. So, there is a money back special. $10 on the board back so far out of 130
spent. So, in theory, we've got the odds, okay? These next tickets should lose. That may not be the case. You can go back-to-back. You can even get three, four wins in a row. Depends on how that book is scattered about. Now, I would
love to beat the odds, but so far I've achieved my expectation for these $10 tickets. Getting a win, unfortunately, it was just a WTF money back special.
All right, 20 and 36. Um yeah, the absolute worst thing you could do if you're playing scratch-offs is one, not do any research. Next thing you know, you're buying tickets that don't have available jackpots.
This is our last $10 ticket and then we're going to dive into the huge $30 tickets. Um All right, let's symbol hunt this one. Would love to see a win and maybe beat
the odds on this one. No symbols, no multipliers. Ticket number 43. Here we go. One. But as I was mentioning, when you buy the whole book group or something. That's what I do about three times a week. You should
about three times a week. You should expect half your money back, okay? You're going to get close to the odds, usually with within one or two uh is the margin of error. But overall odds are for all tickets
printed. Now, here we have the $30 ticket. Now, I got what I expected out of those $10 tickets. I got the odds and it was just a money back win. We wanted the theory proved true for those four
anyway. It may or may not hold true for these. Here we have ticket 25, 26, and 27. Again, all in a row from the same book. Overall odds are 1 in 2.61. So, we're playing the odds exactly, no more, no less. Again, doesn't guarantee that
we're going to get a win. It just increases our odds of just grabbing one and hoping for a win. If you just grab one ticket only and you get a win on it, consider yourself lucky because the odds are never 1 in 1 on a
They're designed for the lottery to make their money. You just got to play for the hope and the opportunity. All right, this is ticket number 25. We're looking for a six. I don't see a six.
A 16. Now, many, many times I've played the odds on a ticket and I didn't get a win, but this is just an overall tip. A but this is just an overall tip. A better practice to try and find those
wins and hopefully one of those wins is magnanimous. magnanimous. 46 and 37. So on this ticket we're looking for the star, two, five, 10 multiplier, burst, diamond, and then
down here we have five bonus spots. We're just looking for double dollars. And it looks like ticket 25 is a loser. Now, I very well could lose on all three of these $30 tickets here and I may have only gotten a a $10 back
$130 gamble. But that's really the expectation when you play the lottery. Expect to lose, winning is just a bonus.
winning is just a bonus. All right, and again we have no symbols, duplicate numbers. Let's see if we have a match. 39. Lastly, always always always scan your
tickets. If you don't want to download the app on your phone to scan it cuz the Florida Lottery app will allow you to verify your tickets. But if you don't you don't have room or whatever, take all your losing tickets. When you
go to buy your next batch, scan them all right there at the machine. Don't ever throw away a ticket that hasn't been scanned. All right, double dollars? No. So two losers. Our last ticket of the day, hopefully.
Now, in theory, this should be a winner, right? Cuz the odds are one in 2.61 and we bought three. Don't expect that. That is just the overall odds. We're hoping a win here, but that may not be the case. Again, as
I mentioned, why you should play the odds um it's just an overall better strategy. You're going to get more wins than just buying one ticket and hauling Um So, if your budget is $10, maybe get
five $2 tickets. If your budget's $20, get four $5 tickets. All right? budget. Don't chase your wins unless you're still within your budget, guys. Uh super important that you practice um
good gambling strategies. I I It really breaks my heart when I hear that people have uh gone well over their budget and they can't afford to pay their bills. So, um if you need help for gambling, check
out my description. Uh there is a phone number in the event that you are in need Nevertheless, again, today's main goal was to try and reinforce a little bit of good gambling strategy.
unless we get something in this bonus section today, we're just not cooperative for this lesson. But, lesson learned. We I Like I said earlier, I expect every ticket that I buy to lose unless I'm buying a whole
book. Today, we didn't get good results, but I assure you this is a better overall strategy. Guys, if you like the video, if you like the advice, give me a thumbs up. Leave a comment down below. Check out that
