[0:00] so voice meter had some changes recently [0:01] so I'm going to go through what's [0:03] changed the setup and some different [0:05] routing options that are available to [0:07] you in this [0:13] video hey guys what's going on I'm beat [0:15] Walker and welcome back to another video [0:17] today we're going over the 2024 version [0:20] of voice meter either vo meter banana vo [0:23] meter potato whatever it is you're using [0:26] I'm going to go through some of the [0:27] changes that's happened recently and [0:29] some of the confusion with these videos [0:32] and how they're outdated they're sort of [0:35] outdated but not really for the most [0:37] part it's just a routing that [0:38] everybody's confused on so I'm going to [0:40] go over all of that so I'm going to [0:41] break this up into a few different parts [0:44] the first part I'm going to talk about [0:45] some of the changes and some of the [0:47] routing options that you'll have [0:49] available to you now second part is [0:51] going to be the setup how to set it up [0:53] to your computer how to get everything [0:55] started for your routing then the last [0:58] part of course is the routing [1:00] which probably the most confusing part [1:02] but I'm going to try to simplify it to [1:04] what most people will use as a routing [1:06] and then give you some other options [1:07] that you might use or stuff that be [1:11] available if you want to expand your [1:12] setup all right let's get into it all [1:14] right so we'll go through this really [1:15] quickly cuz you may or may not not care [1:18] about what the updates are but this did [1:20] update in February so I recently went [1:23] through some of the [1:25] updates myself and kind of got [1:27] familiarized with it so I'll explain [1:29] this as best as POS possible what you [1:31] need to know and what the important [1:32] things are uh for you kind of one of the [1:36] main things is they stabilize some of [1:38] the drivers with Windows 10 and Windows [1:40] Windows 11 so what that means is the old [1:43] system was using a old set of Windows [1:46] and you'd have a lot of audio problems [1:47] people were just having audio problems I [1:49] think I've went over a few of them in my [1:51] other videos what they did to stabilize [1:53] that out which is really really good I [1:55] haven't had any problems so far and I [1:57] hopefully you won't either from now on [2:01] I'm not going to worry about that [2:02] internal clock not worried about that [2:04] either so you can select different audio [2:07] devices now um it's just a new way of [2:10] selecting the devices Vice the old way [2:13] and it's separated between basically wdm [2:17] and MMA in the multimedia which is [2:19] typically the ones we use so you'll see [2:21] that when I explain it in voice meter [2:24] when we take a look at it Vio extensions [2:27] this is similar to the old [2:31] viio that we had it's just separated now [2:34] which I'm going to show you on the [2:36] different drivers which is this part [2:38] which is the different drivers that you [2:40] have available to you [2:42] now uh and then same with the output [2:44] drivers so you have input and output [2:46] drivers available to you now to select [2:49] differently again we're going to go [2:51] through all of this but I just want you [2:52] to know that you will not have just one [2:55] or two selections you will have multiple [2:58] selections and I think that's the [2:59] biggest confusion that I've had in my [3:02] Discord and questions which audio driver [3:04] do I select in and out we're going to go [3:07] through that and it's actually pretty [3:09] nice so that voice meter so so you have [3:14] different drivers in vo meter banana and [3:17] potato available for you so potato just [3:20] gives you more extensions which majority [3:22] of people will not need I do like [3:25] potato for various reasons I may do [3:28] another video on why I think potatoes [3:30] just better for streamers and people who [3:33] are serious if you're just starting out [3:35] and you want something simple and free [3:37] voice meter banana is going be for you [3:40] uh if you want to been a little bit more [3:41] expensive and you know with more [3:44] controls essentially you can use potato [3:47] pay a little donation to them and uh get [3:50] full access pretty simple so that's [3:52] going to be pretty much it before I dig [3:55] into the setup I'm G to show this and if [3:58] you want to take a screenshot you can [4:00] but I wanted [4:02] to kind of [4:05] simplify the routing that you can [4:08] use in voice meter okay and this this is [4:12] a [4:12] perfect snapshot this is a perfect [4:15] snapshot of you know how you'd set up [4:18] voice meter essentially you have your [4:21] microphone TV isn't is one that I'm just [4:24] not going to use I'm put it going to put [4:26] a Discord over here but this could be an [4:30] external let's say Xbox PlayStation if [4:33] you have a capture card that's where [4:36] this would come in as a hardware device [4:37] instead of a TV nobody's really using a [4:39] TV so I'd have my internal microphone or [4:43] you can have a another microphone that [4:46] you use let's say a uh like I'm using a [4:50] roadter right now you can use a USB with [4:52] a roadter and then Discord so I'm just [4:56] kind of giving you some examples of what [4:58] that would look like or you have your M [5:00] PlayStation 5 Xbox Discord internally [5:04] using that cable [5:05] output and then your all your audio [5:08] stuff coming from like YouTube Spotify [5:12] Etc you know if you're using Skype which [5:15] Skype this is kind of updated in terms [5:17] of Skype or maybe not maybe people use [5:19] zoom um but for the most part it'll be [5:22] your spotifi and then all your YouTube [5:24] stuff gameplay audio Etc so this could [5:27] probably be your gameplay audio and you [5:30] could actually split this up now which [5:31] is cool um whereas before they're kind [5:34] of integrated you could split them up as [5:36] a little bit difficult but now they've [5:38] made it a lot easier to do that and then [5:40] outputs obviously your a1s and [5:43] everything is going to be your [5:45] headphones headset and then you could [5:46] push it out to some speakers if you [5:48] wanted to or um an additional set of [5:51] headphones let's say you're doing a [5:53] podcast you could do that as [5:56] well and that's your a audio devices and [5:59] then your bees is basically one of your [6:02] stof software OBS Etc so yeah this is [6:06] just a good routing example and then [6:08] this other example is kind of like how [6:10] the routing would go from the like let's [6:14] say you have all your A's here selected [6:17] that's everything you're going to hear [6:18] from that first audio and then let's say [6:21] you wanted something just to go out to [6:24] speakers or that second host like let's [6:27] say they didn't want to hear themselves [6:28] say the second host was on this TV line [6:32] so you'd have your first mic and then [6:34] the second host's mic or vice versa [6:37] they'd hear you you'd hear them without [6:40] hearing yourself that kind of makes [6:42] sense so another good example again I'll [6:45] post these [6:46] two um images down below so you kind of [6:49] just take a look at them see how you can [6:51] rout it all right so if you haven't done [6:53] the installation before or or you're new [6:57] click the link below or just search vo [7:00] meter banana there's going to be this [7:02] download package link here click that [7:05] it's going to quickly download and then [7:08] what you're also going to do is come [7:10] over to this virtual audio cable and [7:13] then you're going to download this [7:15] driver pack as well all right so once [7:18] you have these downloaded you're going [7:19] to want to install the voice meter as [7:23] you normally would type yes [7:25] there okay so I've I already H I already [7:28] have one installed so I'm not going to [7:29] going to remove the voice meter but you [7:32] basically go to the installation here [7:34] and then click out the VB cable pack [7:37] you're going to want to extract so you [7:39] can [7:41] go extract same [7:45] area not a big deal all right once that [7:48] Pack's open you're going to have a [7:49] regular setup in a 64 majority of people [7:52] would use the 64 but it depends on your [7:54] system so you find the right one right [7:57] click and then make sure you run as [7:58] administrator on this one the setup on [8:00] this is just kind of different in terms [8:03] of um how you want it on your system so [8:06] click yes there I'm going to install [8:08] this driver okay all right so once it [8:12] installs it's going to open this page [8:14] it's fine don't ignore that you're going [8:16] to want to restart your system and come [8:19] right back okay so once you've installed [8:21] and restarted your computer as you can [8:23] see I have voice meter up basically [8:25] where you want to go to find it is click [8:27] on all apps scroll all the way down to [8:29] the VB audio folder and then you're [8:31] going to select either the voice meter [8:34] banana 64 or if you have potato you can [8:37] do that as well so I'm going to choose [8:38] voice meter banana which I already have [8:40] open here and what you're listening to [8:42] right now so what I'm going to do is [8:44] real quick before we get started on [8:46] voice meter what you're going to want to [8:47] do is go down here to your sound [8:49] settings right click there go to sound [8:53] settings let me bring this over here so [8:57] once you're in here your output device [8:59] which what you want what you're going to [9:00] want to do is make sure you set this to [9:02] voice meter input so the voice meter [9:05] input is a little bit different from the [9:07] way it was before where you're not so [9:09] before you were getting all your audio [9:12] from that B1 Channel if anybody [9:14] remembers sent to voic metor input now [9:17] it's its own separate virtual input so [9:19] the if you default it to this the [9:22] majority of your game sounds your your [9:25] Spotify anything set up on default will [9:28] come through that voice meter input now [9:30] so what you want to do now is just make [9:33] sure you have it set to voice meter [9:35] input once you have that your input [9:39] device uh I have it set to microphone [9:41] but what you want to do is either set it [9:43] to vo meter out B2 which is how I have [9:46] it or B1 I would avoid probably doing B1 [9:50] because the majority of your sounds are [9:51] going to come through there like all [9:53] your game sounds and Spotify so you so [9:56] you're either going to want to keep your [9:57] microphone on a B1 Channel Channel or B2 [10:00] SE Channel separate so I'll just choose [10:03] B2 and show you what that looks like [10:05] here in a little bit all right once you [10:07] have that set up you want to make sure [10:09] you go to this more sound settings here [10:11] at the [10:12] bottom and the only playback device you [10:15] should have set on default is this voice [10:18] meter input so make sure you set it [10:21] to both the communication device and [10:24] then to your [10:25] default now for recording [10:29] you're going to do the same thing and [10:31] set it to that [10:32] B2 so set communication device and make [10:36] sure it's just default Okay click and [10:39] then click okay here if you want to [10:41] check and ensure that these are set to [10:42] the right Hertz and bit rate you can go [10:44] here make sure you're selecting the [10:47] correct studio quality it defaults to 48 [10:50] unless you know you're using a different [10:51] set of Hertz like 44 for example so 48 [10:56] is what we're going to keep it at make [10:57] sure everything is set to 4 [10:59] if not you're going to have some [11:01] problems all right and that is pretty [11:03] much it for the sound settings so we're [11:07] going to do is go back into voice meter [11:10] and as you can see I have my microphone [11:12] coming in here but basically we're going [11:14] to start from the left to the right and [11:16] start up with our stereo inputs so as I [11:19] explained before the inputs here is [11:23] either going to be a microphone multiple [11:25] mics Xbox game sounds uh and then that [11:29] cable input which we're going to use for [11:31] Discord so select this input here and of [11:35] course I'm using the roadter duo so you [11:37] can select whatever mic you have [11:39] available to [11:41] you all right and then you can justjust [11:43] sound as needed as you can see I have it [11:46] set to [11:47] B2 and that's basically just going to [11:50] give me my mic on a separate Channel [11:53] which we will set up in OBS [11:56] shortly all right so for stereo input [11:59] two what I'm going to do is choose this [12:02] cable output device um let me name these [12:05] real quick so I just name this one real [12:07] quickly [12:08] mic and then this one will be my [12:14] Discord and of course we'll set up [12:16] Discord here when I'm [12:19] done all right so that's going to be [12:21] your Discord which is the cable output [12:23] device there and of course you have [12:25] additional input devices like I said [12:27] before you can always add them here so a [12:29] capture card or anything external that's [12:31] coming in and you want to capture that [12:34] sound you can capture it here as well [12:36] all right so as I said before this ver [12:39] voice meter input is going to be all of [12:41] your desktop sounds so for example I'll [12:45] just play [12:47] Spotify and bring that down as you can [12:50] see Spotify plays there on a [12:53] default and uh I'll pause [12:57] that and so that's where it's going to [12:59] be defaulted and same thing goes for [13:02] like if you're playing sounds from [13:04] YouTube for [13:09] example hey guys what's going on I'm be [13:12] be sure to check out my review on the [13:13] fif fine uh microphone was really great [13:16] by the way so anything you know that [13:19] that you have defaulted is going to come [13:22] through that voice meter input now this [13:24] voice meter ax is another input you can [13:27] use that you can set specifically so if [13:30] you go back into sound the uh sound [13:33] settings go to the bottom this volume [13:36] mixer I can actually [13:39] select let's say we'll do Spotify I can [13:43] actually select this voem Ox to come out [13:47] there specifically if you wanted to so [13:50] I'll play Spotify [13:52] [Music] [13:55] again so as you can see now it's on The [13:57] Voice meter ax and instead of the [13:59] original voice meter input that I had [14:02] before so you can kind of mess around [14:04] with that mess around with whatever you [14:06] want to have specifically rename these [14:08] as you want so if I name this [14:12] Spotify what's cool about this too is [14:14] you know as you can see I have volume [14:16] sliders so I can have this one as you [14:19] know [14:21] YouTube if you have some YouTube music [14:23] or SoundCloud music that's coming [14:25] through there you can have it on a [14:27] certain level uh same thing with your [14:29] game sounds if you just want game sounds [14:31] you can have them like kind of low or [14:33] vice versa have the game sounds up and [14:35] then have your Spotify low however want [14:37] to do that that's perfectly up to you [14:40] but it's probably the easiest way to set [14:42] it up for for most people this will be [14:45] the way you're setting it up okay so [14:47] moving up here to the top where you see [14:50] the A1 A2 and [14:52] A3 so if you remember in the [14:54] diagram uh this is going to be like your [14:56] headphones so what I'm using now is just [14:58] a set of headphones phones if you have a [15:00] wireless headset that'll come through [15:01] there and then the second one could be [15:04] that set of speakers if you have [15:06] speakers or if you have a guest on a [15:10] show you can have you know that route to [15:12] them as well uh just ensure [15:15] that for this routing piece if you have [15:19] an A2 device you want to make sure the [15:23] A2 selected on everything you want that [15:26] specific Hardware output to [15:30] here so you want to make sure your guest [15:32] hears both um now what I will say is [15:36] make sure your guest is not hearing [15:40] themselves and you are not hearing [15:42] yourselves as well so if I click A1 here [15:45] I will hear [15:47] myself obviously you can't hear it but [15:49] I'll hear myself in my headphones and [15:51] then vice versa so just kind of [15:53] something to keep in mind that and [15:55] that's kind of how that routing chain [15:57] goes goes from here [15:59] and then these go all the way to here B [16:01] and B2 which is basically going to go to [16:04] your OBS all right so once you have this [16:07] set up you're ready to move into [16:10] OBS so let's take a look at OBS sorry [16:13] about the mirror effect there but kind [16:15] of the way I have it set up right now uh [16:18] like I said I have this [16:19] B2 which is basically going to be this [16:22] voice meter out B2 which is we selected [16:24] as our default so that's going to be [16:27] everything that is coming through that [16:29] B2 channnel so the only thing coming [16:32] through b Channel right now is that [16:34] microphone okay so B2 there and then the [16:39] B1 [16:40] output is set to the voice meter out B1 [16:45] so you want to make sure when you're [16:46] adding a source that you're adding a [16:48] audio input capture for your B1 and [16:52] B2 and not a output capture the output [16:56] capture is basically going to be your [17:00] separate devices so like the voice meter [17:02] input that I talked about before if you [17:05] want to separate that Spotify that game [17:08] sounds Etc you could do that now what [17:11] you want to make sure you're not doing [17:13] is duplicating a lot of these so this is [17:17] I wouldn't do more than three unless you [17:21] are really familiar and you know how to [17:24] turn these on and off so just as an [17:27] example if you're really really wanted [17:29] to have your [17:32] microphone your separate [17:35] Discord and either game Spotify Etc [17:40] separately you could [17:42] technically but the way to do that is [17:46] you'll have obviously your B2 which is a [17:48] microphone your B1 which is all your [17:51] Discord game sounds Etc and this voic [17:55] meter input which is going to be [17:56] anything coming through here [17:59] uh you want to make sure you're [18:00] unchecking the B1 and you'll still be [18:04] able to hear uh let [18:11] me so today we're going to be talking [18:13] about this guy which is the fine [18:16] k6 and you'll still be able to hear 88 [18:20] microphone so this is a budget friendly [18:23] microph all these sounds coming through [18:26] the input Channel without it reading to [18:29] that [18:30] B1 okay I know that's might be a little [18:32] bit confusing but so what the way I have [18:35] it set up right now [18:37] is if [18:40] I you're going to hear duplicate sounds [18:42] right now which is be a little bit weird [18:44] but I just want to give you the example [18:46] of why I'm doing it that way phone that [18:47] is a USB and XLR [18:50] microphone so obviously you want to only [18:53] have one selected so it's your choice on [18:55] you want not to set this up but what I [18:57] would do as a starter is just have your [19:00] B1 and B2 and then if you want to start [19:03] bringing in a voice meter [19:05] input uh you can do a separate Cable [19:09] cable input as well so if I come in here [19:12] audio input capture let's say I want to [19:14] have Discord [19:20] separate and then you could select that [19:23] cable [19:25] output so now [19:29] I would unselect it here and then [19:31] unselect this so I have [19:34] Discord I [19:36] have any voice metor input and then uh [19:40] you know all your game audio and stuff [19:41] like that going to be [19:43] one but for now I'll keep it pretty [19:46] simple I'll just delete these remove [19:50] that and remove [19:53] that and voice meter output B1 B2 [19:59] and it works [20:00] perfectly with just the way we have it [20:02] set up here okay so now moving over to [20:06] Discord uh when you come in Discord [20:08] you're going to want to go to this user [20:10] settings video or voice and [20:14] video and your input device is going to [20:17] be that [20:18] B2 unless you selected B1 B2 is where [20:22] we'll keep it and then you're going to [20:24] select the [20:26] cable input as the output device and [20:30] what it's going to do is it's going to [20:32] allow it to come through this channel [20:34] here so we'll just test that real quick [20:37] bring this [20:39] down mic check mic M check like I said [20:43] in a previous video this this mic test [20:46] is not very great but at the very least [20:49] you are able to see M check that that's [20:52] coming through the right Channel and [20:55] it's feeding through that B1 so if we [20:57] look back [20:59] to [21:04] this might [21:07] check you could see that it was coming [21:09] correctly through the [21:11] B1 and you'll start to understand the [21:13] routings a little bit more and it seems [21:16] a little complicated at first but once [21:18] you understand it and you grasp what [21:22] routes where what setup where it's not [21:25] as hard as it really used to be cuz in [21:27] the past you really only had one option [21:29] of routing which was your B1 and B2 now [21:33] you have multiple ways of routing I'm [21:35] trying to keep it as simple as possible [21:37] but I'm also giving you options to be [21:40] able to set it up to how you want it so [21:45] this is kind of the basic setup and how [21:47] most people have it set up the one last [21:50] thing I'll mention is on your system [21:53] settings these are either sets of [21:55] default now if you are having some mic [21:58] crackling or microphone issues you can [22:02] technically bump these up a little [22:04] higher now just keep in mind that the [22:07] higher you go the more delay you're [22:08] going to have so keep it as the default [22:11] as best as you can I haven't had too [22:13] many issues yet so and then make sure [22:16] these are all defaulted to that 48 Hertz [22:18] like you had before all right so I [22:21] understand that's a lot of information [22:23] to go through so you can go back I'm [22:25] going to try to Tim stamp everything as [22:27] best as possible [22:29] go back find what works for you or what [22:31] you need to set up for your system you [22:35] want something really specific that I [22:37] haven't covered uh you can hop in my [22:39] Discord and ask me send me some [22:41] screenshots so I can try of work through [22:43] with you know what your system is like [22:45] and whatever the issues you're having I [22:47] think a lot of the issues comes from the [22:49] different microphones or if you have uh [22:52] an effects voice mod I think is what [22:54] it's called voice mod and routing and [22:57] you know kind of people have like major [23:00] sound issues or you're getting an error [23:02] on voice meter when you're installing it [23:05] whatever the case is we'll do our best [23:07] to help you over in the Discord as [23:09] always I hope this helped you I HED I [23:11] covered as much as possible in this new [23:14] setup new version of VO meter which is [23:16] actually
