## Summary

This video provides a comprehensive guide to setting up Voicemeeter (Banana or Potato) in 2024, covering recent updates, new routing options, and integration with OBS and Discord. The creator explains the changes to audio drivers and input/output selections, then walks through the installation, configuration, and routing process step by step.

### Key Points

- **Introduction to 2024 Voicemeeter Updates** [0:00] — The video covers recent changes to Voicemeeter, focusing on routing confusion and new driver options.
- **Driver Stabilization for Windows 10/11** [1:36] — Drivers have been stabilized for Windows 10 and 11, reducing audio problems that were common with older versions.
- **New Audio Device Selection** [2:07] — Audio devices are now separated into WDM and MME categories, offering more selection options for input and output drivers.
- **Simplified Routing Diagram** [4:05] — A routing diagram is shown: microphone, Discord (via cable output), and desktop audio (Voicemeeter Input) feed into Voicemeeter, with outputs to headphones (A1), speakers (A2), and OBS (B1/B2).
- **Installation Steps** [6:53] — Download Voicemeeter Banana and the VB-Cable driver pack. Install both, restart the computer, then open Voicemeeter from the VB-Audio folder.
- **Windows Sound Settings Configuration** [8:49] — Set the default output device to 'Voicemeeter Input' and the default input device to 'Voicemeeter Out B2' (or B1). Ensure both are set to 48 kHz studio quality.
- **Voicemeeter Input Configuration** [11:10] — Configure stereo inputs: microphone on one channel (set to B2), Discord on another (using cable output), and desktop audio on the Voicemeeter Input channel.
- **Hardware Output Routing (A1, A2, A3)** [14:47] — A1 is for headphones, A2 for speakers or a guest. Ensure A2 is selected on all inputs the guest should hear, and avoid feedback loops.
- **OBS Audio Setup** [16:07] — In OBS, add audio input capture sources for 'Voicemeeter Out B1' and 'Voicemeeter Out B2'. B2 carries the microphone, B1 carries all other audio (Discord, game sounds, etc.).
- **Discord Audio Configuration** [20:06] — In Discord, set input device to 'Voicemeeter Out B2' and output device to 'Cable Input'. This routes Discord audio through the cable input channel.

### Conclusion

The 2024 Voicemeeter update offers more flexible routing options and improved driver stability. The basic setup with B1 and B2 channels works well for most users, and the video provides a solid foundation for further customization.

so voice meter had some changes recently
so I'm going to go through what's
changed the setup and some different
routing options that are available to
you in this
video hey guys what's going on I'm beat
Walker and welcome back to another video
today we're going over the 2024 version
of voice meter either vo meter banana vo
meter potato whatever it is you're using
I'm going to go through some of the
changes that's happened recently and
some of the confusion with these videos
and how they're outdated they're sort of
outdated but not really for the most
part it's just a routing that
everybody's confused on so I'm going to
go over all of that so I'm going to
break this up into a few different parts
the first part I'm going to talk about
some of the changes and some of the
routing options that you'll have
available to you now second part is
going to be the setup how to set it up
to your computer how to get everything
started for your routing then the last
part of course is the routing
which probably the most confusing part
but I'm going to try to simplify it to
what most people will use as a routing
and then give you some other options
that you might use or stuff that be
available if you want to expand your
setup all right let's get into it all
right so we'll go through this really
quickly cuz you may or may not not care
about what the updates are but this did
update in February so I recently went
through some of the
updates myself and kind of got
familiarized with it so I'll explain
this as best as POS possible what you
need to know and what the important
things are uh for you kind of one of the
main things is they stabilize some of
the drivers with Windows 10 and Windows
Windows 11 so what that means is the old
system was using a old set of Windows
and you'd have a lot of audio problems
people were just having audio problems I
think I've went over a few of them in my
other videos what they did to stabilize
that out which is really really good I
haven't had any problems so far and I
hopefully you won't either from now on
I'm not going to worry about that
internal clock not worried about that
either so you can select different audio
devices now um it's just a new way of
selecting the devices Vice the old way
and it's separated between basically wdm
and MMA in the multimedia which is
typically the ones we use so you'll see
that when I explain it in voice meter
when we take a look at it Vio extensions
this is similar to the old
viio that we had it's just separated now
which I'm going to show you on the
different drivers which is this part
which is the different drivers that you
have available to you
now uh and then same with the output
drivers so you have input and output
drivers available to you now to select
differently again we're going to go
through all of this but I just want you
to know that you will not have just one
or two selections you will have multiple
selections and I think that's the
biggest confusion that I've had in my
Discord and questions which audio driver
do I select in and out we're going to go
through that and it's actually pretty
nice so that voice meter so so you have
different drivers in vo meter banana and
potato available for you so potato just
gives you more extensions which majority
of people will not need I do like
potato for various reasons I may do
another video on why I think potatoes
just better for streamers and people who
are serious if you're just starting out
and you want something simple and free
voice meter banana is going be for you
uh if you want to been a little bit more
expensive and you know with more
controls essentially you can use potato
pay a little donation to them and uh get
full access pretty simple so that's
going to be pretty much it before I dig
into the setup I'm G to show this and if
you want to take a screenshot you can
but I wanted
to kind of
simplify the routing that you can
use in voice meter okay and this this is
a
perfect snapshot this is a perfect
snapshot of you know how you'd set up
voice meter essentially you have your
microphone TV isn't is one that I'm just
not going to use I'm put it going to put
a Discord over here but this could be an
external let's say Xbox PlayStation if
you have a capture card that's where
this would come in as a hardware device
instead of a TV nobody's really using a
TV so I'd have my internal microphone or
you can have a another microphone that
you use let's say a uh like I'm using a
roadter right now you can use a USB with
a roadter and then Discord so I'm just
kind of giving you some examples of what
that would look like or you have your M
PlayStation 5 Xbox Discord internally
using that cable
output and then your all your audio
stuff coming from like YouTube Spotify
Etc you know if you're using Skype which
Skype this is kind of updated in terms
of Skype or maybe not maybe people use
zoom um but for the most part it'll be
your spotifi and then all your YouTube
stuff gameplay audio Etc so this could
probably be your gameplay audio and you
could actually split this up now which
is cool um whereas before they're kind
of integrated you could split them up as
a little bit difficult but now they've
made it a lot easier to do that and then
outputs obviously your a1s and
everything is going to be your
headphones headset and then you could
push it out to some speakers if you
wanted to or um an additional set of
headphones let's say you're doing a
podcast you could do that as
well and that's your a audio devices and
then your bees is basically one of your
stof software OBS Etc so yeah this is
just a good routing example and then
this other example is kind of like how
the routing would go from the like let's
say you have all your A's here selected
that's everything you're going to hear
from that first audio and then let's say
you wanted something just to go out to
speakers or that second host like let's
say they didn't want to hear themselves
say the second host was on this TV line
so you'd have your first mic and then
the second host's mic or vice versa
they'd hear you you'd hear them without
hearing yourself that kind of makes
sense so another good example again I'll
post these
two um images down below so you kind of
just take a look at them see how you can
rout it all right so if you haven't done
the installation before or or you're new
click the link below or just search vo
meter banana there's going to be this
download package link here click that
it's going to quickly download and then
what you're also going to do is come
over to this virtual audio cable and
then you're going to download this
driver pack as well all right so once
you have these downloaded you're going
to want to install the voice meter as
you normally would type yes
there okay so I've I already H I already
have one installed so I'm not going to
going to remove the voice meter but you
basically go to the installation here
and then click out the VB cable pack
you're going to want to extract so you
can
go extract same
area not a big deal all right once that
Pack's open you're going to have a
regular setup in a 64 majority of people
would use the 64 but it depends on your
system so you find the right one right
click and then make sure you run as
administrator on this one the setup on
this is just kind of different in terms
of um how you want it on your system so
click yes there I'm going to install
this driver okay all right so once it
installs it's going to open this page
it's fine don't ignore that you're going
to want to restart your system and come
right back okay so once you've installed
and restarted your computer as you can
see I have voice meter up basically
where you want to go to find it is click
on all apps scroll all the way down to
the VB audio folder and then you're
going to select either the voice meter
banana 64 or if you have potato you can
do that as well so I'm going to choose
voice meter banana which I already have
open here and what you're listening to
right now so what I'm going to do is
real quick before we get started on
voice meter what you're going to want to
do is go down here to your sound
settings right click there go to sound
settings let me bring this over here so
once you're in here your output device
which what you want what you're going to
want to do is make sure you set this to
voice meter input so the voice meter
input is a little bit different from the
way it was before where you're not so
before you were getting all your audio
from that B1 Channel if anybody
remembers sent to voic metor input now
it's its own separate virtual input so
the if you default it to this the
majority of your game sounds your your
Spotify anything set up on default will
come through that voice meter input now
so what you want to do now is just make
sure you have it set to voice meter
input once you have that your input
device uh I have it set to microphone
but what you want to do is either set it
to vo meter out B2 which is how I have
it or B1 I would avoid probably doing B1
because the majority of your sounds are
going to come through there like all
your game sounds and Spotify so you so
you're either going to want to keep your
microphone on a B1 Channel Channel or B2
SE Channel separate so I'll just choose
B2 and show you what that looks like
here in a little bit all right once you
have that set up you want to make sure
you go to this more sound settings here
at the
bottom and the only playback device you
should have set on default is this voice
meter input so make sure you set it
to both the communication device and
then to your
default now for recording
you're going to do the same thing and
set it to that
B2 so set communication device and make
sure it's just default Okay click and
then click okay here if you want to
check and ensure that these are set to
the right Hertz and bit rate you can go
here make sure you're selecting the
correct studio quality it defaults to 48
unless you know you're using a different
set of Hertz like 44 for example so 48
is what we're going to keep it at make
sure everything is set to 4
if not you're going to have some
problems all right and that is pretty
much it for the sound settings so we're
going to do is go back into voice meter
and as you can see I have my microphone
coming in here but basically we're going
to start from the left to the right and
start up with our stereo inputs so as I
explained before the inputs here is
either going to be a microphone multiple
mics Xbox game sounds uh and then that
cable input which we're going to use for
Discord so select this input here and of
course I'm using the roadter duo so you
can select whatever mic you have
available to
you all right and then you can justjust
sound as needed as you can see I have it
set to
B2 and that's basically just going to
give me my mic on a separate Channel
which we will set up in OBS
shortly all right so for stereo input
two what I'm going to do is choose this
cable output device um let me name these
real quick so I just name this one real
quickly
mic and then this one will be my
Discord and of course we'll set up
Discord here when I'm
done all right so that's going to be
your Discord which is the cable output
device there and of course you have
additional input devices like I said
before you can always add them here so a
capture card or anything external that's
coming in and you want to capture that
sound you can capture it here as well
all right so as I said before this ver
voice meter input is going to be all of
your desktop sounds so for example I'll
just play
Spotify and bring that down as you can
see Spotify plays there on a
default and uh I'll pause
that and so that's where it's going to
be defaulted and same thing goes for
like if you're playing sounds from
YouTube for
example hey guys what's going on I'm be
be sure to check out my review on the
fif fine uh microphone was really great
by the way so anything you know that
that you have defaulted is going to come
through that voice meter input now this
voice meter ax is another input you can
use that you can set specifically so if
you go back into sound the uh sound
settings go to the bottom this volume
mixer I can actually
select let's say we'll do Spotify I can
actually select this voem Ox to come out
there specifically if you wanted to so
I'll play Spotify
[Music]
again so as you can see now it's on The
Voice meter ax and instead of the
original voice meter input that I had
before so you can kind of mess around
with that mess around with whatever you
want to have specifically rename these
as you want so if I name this
Spotify what's cool about this too is
you know as you can see I have volume
sliders so I can have this one as you
know
YouTube if you have some YouTube music
or SoundCloud music that's coming
through there you can have it on a
certain level uh same thing with your
game sounds if you just want game sounds
you can have them like kind of low or
vice versa have the game sounds up and
then have your Spotify low however want
to do that that's perfectly up to you
but it's probably the easiest way to set
it up for for most people this will be
the way you're setting it up okay so
moving up here to the top where you see
the A1 A2 and
A3 so if you remember in the
diagram uh this is going to be like your
headphones so what I'm using now is just
a set of headphones phones if you have a
wireless headset that'll come through
there and then the second one could be
that set of speakers if you have
speakers or if you have a guest on a
show you can have you know that route to
them as well uh just ensure
that for this routing piece if you have
an A2 device you want to make sure the
A2 selected on everything you want that
specific Hardware output to
here so you want to make sure your guest
hears both um now what I will say is
make sure your guest is not hearing
themselves and you are not hearing
yourselves as well so if I click A1 here
I will hear
myself obviously you can't hear it but
I'll hear myself in my headphones and
then vice versa so just kind of
something to keep in mind that and
that's kind of how that routing chain
goes goes from here
and then these go all the way to here B
and B2 which is basically going to go to
your OBS all right so once you have this
set up you're ready to move into
OBS so let's take a look at OBS sorry
about the mirror effect there but kind
of the way I have it set up right now uh
like I said I have this
B2 which is basically going to be this
voice meter out B2 which is we selected
as our default so that's going to be
everything that is coming through that
B2 channnel so the only thing coming
through b Channel right now is that
microphone okay so B2 there and then the
B1
output is set to the voice meter out B1
so you want to make sure when you're
adding a source that you're adding a
audio input capture for your B1 and
B2 and not a output capture the output
capture is basically going to be your
separate devices so like the voice meter
input that I talked about before if you
want to separate that Spotify that game
sounds Etc you could do that now what
you want to make sure you're not doing
is duplicating a lot of these so this is
I wouldn't do more than three unless you
are really familiar and you know how to
turn these on and off so just as an
example if you're really really wanted
to have your
microphone your separate
Discord and either game Spotify Etc
separately you could
technically but the way to do that is
you'll have obviously your B2 which is a
microphone your B1 which is all your
Discord game sounds Etc and this voic
meter input which is going to be
anything coming through here
uh you want to make sure you're
unchecking the B1 and you'll still be
able to hear uh let
me so today we're going to be talking
about this guy which is the fine
k6 and you'll still be able to hear 88
microphone so this is a budget friendly
microph all these sounds coming through
the input Channel without it reading to
that
B1 okay I know that's might be a little
bit confusing but so what the way I have
it set up right now
is if
I you're going to hear duplicate sounds
right now which is be a little bit weird
but I just want to give you the example
of why I'm doing it that way phone that
is a USB and XLR
microphone so obviously you want to only
have one selected so it's your choice on
you want not to set this up but what I
would do as a starter is just have your
B1 and B2 and then if you want to start
bringing in a voice meter
input uh you can do a separate Cable
cable input as well so if I come in here
audio input capture let's say I want to
have Discord
separate and then you could select that
cable
output so now
I would unselect it here and then
unselect this so I have
Discord I
have any voice metor input and then uh
you know all your game audio and stuff
like that going to be
one but for now I'll keep it pretty
simple I'll just delete these remove
that and remove
that and voice meter output B1 B2
and it works
perfectly with just the way we have it
set up here okay so now moving over to
Discord uh when you come in Discord
you're going to want to go to this user
settings video or voice and
video and your input device is going to
be that
B2 unless you selected B1 B2 is where
we'll keep it and then you're going to
select the
cable input as the output device and
what it's going to do is it's going to
allow it to come through this channel
here so we'll just test that real quick
bring this
down mic check mic M check like I said
in a previous video this this mic test
is not very great but at the very least
you are able to see M check that that's
coming through the right Channel and
it's feeding through that B1 so if we
look back
to
this might
check you could see that it was coming
correctly through the
B1 and you'll start to understand the
routings a little bit more and it seems
a little complicated at first but once
you understand it and you grasp what
routes where what setup where it's not
as hard as it really used to be cuz in
the past you really only had one option
of routing which was your B1 and B2 now
you have multiple ways of routing I'm
trying to keep it as simple as possible
but I'm also giving you options to be
able to set it up to how you want it so
this is kind of the basic setup and how
most people have it set up the one last
thing I'll mention is on your system
settings these are either sets of
default now if you are having some mic
crackling or microphone issues you can
technically bump these up a little
higher now just keep in mind that the
higher you go the more delay you're
going to have so keep it as the default
as best as you can I haven't had too
many issues yet so and then make sure
these are all defaulted to that 48 Hertz
like you had before all right so I
understand that's a lot of information
to go through so you can go back I'm
going to try to Tim stamp everything as
best as possible
go back find what works for you or what
you need to set up for your system you
want something really specific that I
haven't covered uh you can hop in my
Discord and ask me send me some
screenshots so I can try of work through
with you know what your system is like
and whatever the issues you're having I
think a lot of the issues comes from the
different microphones or if you have uh
an effects voice mod I think is what
it's called voice mod and routing and
you know kind of people have like major
sound issues or you're getting an error
on voice meter when you're installing it
whatever the case is we'll do our best
to help you over in the Discord as
always I hope this helped you I HED I
covered as much as possible in this new
setup new version of VO meter which is
actually really really nice so thank you
vo meter for giving us a free version of
like the go XLR or now
broadcaster Pro 2 which is basically
does everything that that does
for free so again thanks for watching
and I will see you guys on the next one
later
