[0:00] Apex is the little brother of Titanfall, [0:02] and despite not having pilot movement, [0:04] you can still do some pretty cool [0:05] movement tech within Apex. It's just a [0:08] bit harder. So, let's take a look at all [0:10] of the major Apex movement tech. [0:12] Starting with something very simple, [0:14] wall jumping. It's the easiest movement [0:16] tech within Apex, and it uses the fact [0:18] that Apex has a wall mantel mechanic. [0:20] And all you have to do to wall jump is [0:22] run at a wall at this angle, and just [0:25] before you hit the wall, slide. And when [0:27] you're midslide, jump onto the wall. At [0:29] this point in the air, make sure to not [0:31] press any movement inputs. The second [0:33] your character mantles the wall, you [0:36] jump off immediately. Do not mantle the [0:38] wall for too long, or this will kill [0:39] your speed. And if done successfully, [0:41] congrats, you can now wall jump. Wool [0:43] jumps can be used to get up to higher [0:45] locations without having a climbing [0:46] animation or just to look cool or skill [0:49] on enemies. And if you combine wall [0:51] jumps with another movement tech I'll [0:53] show you later in this video, you can [0:54] just skip climbing animations overall. [0:57] Let's move from one of the easiest [0:58] movement techs to one of the hardest [1:00] movement techs, superglides. Superglides [1:03] look easy, but they're actually really [1:05] hard to do because the window you have [1:07] to do them is tiny. Superglides are a [1:09] movement tech where you can essentially [1:11] launch yourself off any object after [1:13] mantling it. If you can mantle it, you [1:15] can launch yourself off it. This allows [1:17] you to juke enemies and just smoothly [1:19] maneuver around the world of Apex. The [1:21] way you do a super glide is mantle an [1:24] object and at the very end of the [1:26] mantle, and I mean the very end, you [1:28] have to press jump and then literally [1:30] one frame later, press crouch. You [1:33] absolutely cannot press these keys at [1:35] the same time. Jump has to go first. To [1:38] make it easier, many players have binded [1:39] their crouch button to V. So when they [1:41] want to superglide, they press space [1:43] with the middle of their thumb and then [1:44] the top of their thumb presses crouch, [1:46] which is V a millisecond later. I use [1:49] this strategy and it makes my super [1:51] glides semicconsistent, although I will [1:53] work on them one day. Superglides are [1:55] hard because they require two really [1:56] precise timings. First of all, pressing [1:58] the buttons at the very end of the [2:00] mantle and also pressing jump and then [2:02] crouch within a few frames of each [2:04] other. For controller, yes, this is [2:06] doable on controller, but it might be [2:08] easier or harder depending on how you're [2:10] playing the game. Backwards superglides [2:11] are also possible, but they are just [2:13] another level of difficulty. Back to the [2:16] easier movement techs though. The next [2:17] movement tech is a super jump. And this [2:19] is really easy if you're on PC and a bit [2:21] harder if you're on controller. This is [2:23] a super jump. And the only thing that it [2:25] requires is a zipline. And you can use [2:27] super jumps to super jump. Believe it or [2:29] not, super jumps are doable by [2:31] interacting with a zipline. And the [2:33] second you interact with it, you jump [2:35] twice. You do two separate jump inputs. [2:38] This is really easy on PC because people [2:40] realized if they bind jump to scroll [2:42] wheel down and then interact and pull [2:44] scroll wheel down, you can super jump [2:46] 100% of the time. It gets harder on [2:49] console because the timing is a bit [2:50] harder. You have to interact and then [2:52] put two separate jump inputs. People on [2:55] console with paddles find this a bit [2:57] easier, but obviously paddles aren't [2:58] accessible to everybody. Still, you can [3:00] super jump on controller if you're using [3:02] the A button as jump here. As a proof of [3:04] concept, I did it with my Xbox [3:06] controller. it all works just fine. [3:08] Super jumps are great because you can [3:09] confuse enemies and also quickly escape [3:11] situations if there's a zipline present. [3:14] Also, if you're playing Pathfinder, you [3:15] can do this essentially on demand. This [3:17] next movement tech is mainly useful when [3:20] combined with other movement techs. This [3:22] is an edge bug. Now, in other source [3:24] games like Counter-Strike, edge bugs are [3:26] used as a way to negate full damage, but [3:28] in Apex, they're a way to negate full [3:30] stun so you can keep your movement [3:31] going. Edge bugs are essentially tiny [3:34] slopes that stop you from taking full [3:36] stun when you land. It's frequently [3:38] doable when hitting the very edges of [3:40] certain props. This can be done on [3:42] things like the gravity cannon to stop [3:44] your stun or after certain falls. Edge [3:46] bugging is essentially just hitting the [3:48] edge of something and hoping you don't [3:50] get stunned. The most famous and [3:52] controversial movement tech that is in [3:54] Apex is tap strafing. And this is [3:56] controversial because Respawn have tried [3:58] to remove it several times. Actually, I [4:00] think I've genuinely lost count of the [4:02] amount of times they've tried to remove [4:03] it, but every time they choose to keep [4:05] it in game because people love it so [4:07] much and people get that mad at the [4:09] prospect of it being removed. Tap [4:11] strafing is essentially a method to [4:13] preserve your momentum and immediately [4:15] make turns while in midair. And if you [4:18] don't understand what I mean, this is [4:19] tap strafing. I jump off the jump pad [4:21] and I just completely snap 90° right and [4:24] keep all of my speed. And if I tried to [4:26] do this without a tap strafe, this is [4:28] what it would look like. I would lose [4:29] all of my speed and basically just fall [4:31] to the ground. Tap strafs are [4:32] technically doable on keyboard and [4:35] controller, but they're a thousand times [4:37] easier on keyboard and mouse because of [4:39] one simple thing. Tap strafs, much like [4:41] super jumps, require you to stack a [4:43] single input several times within a [4:46] small window. And the input you stack [4:48] with tap strafs is the W key. As to do a [4:51] tap strafe, you have to slide, let go of [4:53] your forward movement key, and then hold [4:56] any side movement key. So, A or D, and [4:59] then you jump and then stack about 10 W [5:02] inputs on top of each other within a [5:04] second. And because for most humans, [5:06] it's impossible to spam W several times [5:08] in a second consistently, most people, [5:10] much like with super jumps, opt to bind [5:12] their forward movement key to the scroll [5:14] wheel. So, they can input several [5:16] forward inputs within a second. So once [5:19] again, to tap strafe, you slide, let go [5:21] of forward, hold a key in the sideways [5:24] direction you want to go into, jump, and [5:26] then do your forward inputs. This can [5:28] also be done off a jump pad with the [5:30] double jump. Essentially, it's the same. [5:31] You hold a sideways direction key, hit [5:34] the second jump, and then stack your [5:35] forward inputs. This is technically [5:37] possible once again by spamming a W key, [5:40] but it's going to be way easier if you [5:41] use a scroll. And as you've likely [5:43] guessed by now, this is really hard to [5:45] do on controller. And without external [5:47] assistance, it's essentially impossible, [5:49] which is why Respawn tried to remove it [5:51] in the past. Respawn did try to give [5:53] controllers a way to tap strafe with [5:55] this Octane perk where he can change [5:57] momentum in midair, but it never really [5:59] took off. And also, most of the ways [6:01] controllers were able to tap strafe in [6:03] the past have been patched. And [6:05] currently, it seems like the only way to [6:07] do it is have a PlayStation controller [6:09] and essentially treat the touchpad as a [6:11] scroll wheel. I believe Misery has the [6:13] most updated guide here. Let's do a [6:14] movement tech that's a bit more fun and [6:16] a bit more recent. As have you ever gone [6:18] off an Octane jump pad and wanted to [6:20] triple jump instead of double jump? [6:23] Well, this is possible with Sparrow. And [6:25] no, it's not as simple as using his [6:27] passive and then the second Octane jump. [6:29] That's not how it works as your passive [6:31] isn't active until you touch a solid [6:34] surface, aka the ground. But a few [6:36] people discovered you can trick Apex [6:38] into thinking you touch the ground by [6:40] simply touching a wall for a very short [6:42] amount of time. to demonstrate. Here is [6:44] a Sparrow triple jump. You jump off the [6:46] jump pad, activate your double jump, and [6:49] then hit a wall for a very short amount [6:51] of time, wall bounce off it, and then [6:53] you gain access to your Sparrow double [6:56] jump. So, this movement tech essentially [6:58] requires a wall bounce in midair. This [7:00] is easier than it looks. Go to the [7:02] firing range and try this, and you'll be [7:03] able to learn how to triple jump really [7:05] easily. But obviously, triple jumps do [7:07] require a wall near you that you have to [7:09] touch to reset your jump. The next [7:11] movement tech is a mantle jump, which [7:13] honestly looks harder than it is. I [7:15] thought this was like a really [7:16] ridiculous hard tech for the longest [7:18] time, but when I learned it for this [7:20] video, I was like, "Oh, that's it." [7:22] Mantle jumps require two things: a [7:24] zipline and a surface you can hang off [7:26] near the zipline, making this building [7:28] on World's Edge an absolute hot spot for [7:30] people to try out their mantle jump [7:32] skills. So, how do you mantle jump? [7:34] Well, you start going up a zipline and [7:36] when you're able to mantle a ledge, you [7:39] jump off the zipline. When climbing up [7:41] the ledge, you press your backwards key [7:43] once to start falling off the ledge. And [7:45] while falling, you look straight down [7:47] and then super jump. So, interact and [7:50] then double jump. And then that should [7:52] mantle jump you. I know that is a lot. [7:54] So, this is how I practiced it. I went [7:56] here, took the zipline, and then hung [7:58] off the edge. When hanging off this [7:59] edge, I could just wait for as long as I [8:01] wanted to and prepare myself for the [8:03] jump. When I was ready, I would hold W, [8:06] which is the forward movement key, and [8:08] then press S once to cancel the climb, [8:11] which would cause me to fall off the [8:12] ledge. I would dart my mouse downwards [8:14] and then super jump, and then it will [8:17] work. This takes some practice, but you [8:19] will get used to it. Your brain just [8:21] needs to get used to doing so many [8:22] things in such a short amount of time. [8:25] But this is pretty fun to do, and once [8:26] again, this is doable on controllers. [8:29] And with the movement text you've [8:31] learned, you can just start using them [8:32] in game and combining them together.
