[0:00] Hey, welcome back to Screen Crush. I'm [0:01] Ryan Ary and this is The Demon Slayer: [0:03] The Infinity Castle Broken Down and [0:05] explained. Now, we're not going to go [0:06] into too much on the manga after this [0:08] movie's events, but spoilers for [0:10] Infinity Castle are ahead. So, let's [0:12] dive in. First of all, this movie is [0:14] officially titled Demon Slayer Kametsu [0:16] Noa: The Movie Infinity Castle Part One, [0:19] Akaza Returns. So, it's only the first [0:21] part in a trilogy that serves as a [0:23] finale to the series. Technically, the [0:25] Infinity Castle arc is the pen ultimate [0:27] arc in the series. The final being the [0:29] Sunrise Countdown arc, although we're [0:31] still unsure. Most likely, this trilogy [0:33] released in theaters will encompass both [0:35] arcs and fully conclude the Demon Slayer [0:37] series. Now, Infinity Castle continues [0:39] many plot lines that were sprinkled [0:41] throughout the show since season 1. In [0:43] the anime, these plot lines were either [0:45] really vague or barely touched upon, so [0:47] honestly, it could be pretty confusing [0:49] going into the movie full throttle. So, [0:51] let's start with the Ubayashiki family. [0:53] The movie begins with the Demon Slayers [0:55] falling through the Infinity Castle. all [0:57] the hashira more and Kaiga Ubayashiki, [0:59] the previous master of the core. The [1:01] master finally came face tof face with [1:03] man at the end of the last arc, which by [1:05] the way we covered completely in our [1:06] recap video. You should watch it. It's [1:08] very good. He explains the Ubayashiki [1:10] curse that arose from having a demon [1:12] born from the family. [1:13] >> A demon has recently emerged from your [1:15] family's bloodline. Commit yourselves [1:18] from here on out to eliminating that [1:20] manifestation. Even after centuries of [1:22] marrying the daughters of priests, [1:24] anybody with the name Ubayashiki doesn't [1:26] live past age 30. The only thing that [1:28] will save them is defeating Muzan. [1:30] Finally turning the tide in this fight, [1:32] the Ubayashiki family makes a drastic [1:34] move. [1:37] Kagaya, his wife Ammane, and two of [1:40] their daughters agree to sacrifice [1:41] themselves in order to trap man for the [1:43] demon slayers. Now, this leaves us [1:45] thinking the Ubayashiki family is no [1:47] more. But as we see in Infinity Castle, [1:50] there are three still living children, [1:52] Kira, Kuina, and Kaneta. The three kids [1:55] map out the Infinity Castle, aiding the [1:57] rest of the Demon Slayers and trying to [1:58] predict where man is hiding. At the [2:00] forefront is Kira. He's one of five kids [2:03] and the only son of Kagaya and Amane. [2:05] With Kagaya's passing, he is the next [2:07] master of the Demon Slayer Corps. Now, [2:09] we've actually seen Kira before back in [2:11] season 1 during Final Selection. [2:13] >> You've come to enter the Demon Slayer [2:15] Cor's final selection. At that time, he [2:18] dressed more feminine. Now, this is most [2:20] likely because dressing as a girl would [2:21] have helped disguise his identity as the [2:23] potential next heir of the core and lead [2:25] to fewer demon attacks on the Ubayashiki [2:28] family. Teaming up with the benevolent [2:29] demons, the Ubayashiki siblings use [2:31] Yushiro's blood art on the communication [2:33] crows to locate all the slayers and [2:35] remaining demons. So, this leads us [2:37] straight into the fight with Doma. [2:39] >> I see. [2:40] >> Back in the Entertainment District arc, [2:41] we saw Doma as the previous upper rank [2:44] six, giving blood to Guutaro and Daky. [2:46] Maybe you'll be a 12 kizaki like me. [2:49] >> Rising to upper rank two, Doma has shown [2:51] his prowess at killing. [2:52] >> Has there ever been a time I didn't meet [2:54] your expectations, my lord? [2:56] >> And an airy tieress much to the chagrin [2:58] of the rest of the upper ranks. [3:02] >> And man himself, [3:03] >> keep your wretched eyeballs. I have no [3:06] need for them. [3:07] >> His status as a cult leader was also [3:08] nodded to at the beginning of the [3:10] swordsmith village arc. [3:11] >> Your disciples have just arrived. But we [3:13] dive deeper into his backstory in the [3:15] Infinity Castle. Born to leaders of the [3:17] Eternal Paradise faith, baby Doma was [3:19] made into the cult's figurehead. [3:21] Disciples would ask the child leader for [3:23] advice and blessings on money, love, and [3:25] other life struggles. Due to his apathy [3:27] and confusion for human emotions, Doma [3:29] found these pleasor and delusional. When [3:31] he turned 20, man offered him blood, and [3:33] Doma became a little freak who liked [3:35] eating people. His new mission in the [3:37] cult was to eat his disciples, convinced [3:39] that it would help them end their [3:40] suffering and enter paradise. Now, this [3:43] is what he tells Shaneobu before killing [3:44] her and absorbing her into his body. [3:51] >> No, I'm still sad. It didn't work. [3:53] >> Shobu's apprentice, Kana, makes it just [3:55] in time before seeing her mentor give a [3:57] final signal and perish, leaving Kana to [4:00] face off against Doma. Now, this is an [4:02] interesting matchup for several reasons. [4:04] Not only is it because of the symbolism [4:05] of a girl avenging her adopted sisters [4:08] against a demon who primarily feeds on [4:10] women, but it's also their experience [4:11] with emotion or lack thereof. Both Doma [4:14] and Kau have lived apathetic lifestyles. [4:17] Like we saw in season 1, Kana grew up in [4:19] an abusive household and repressed her [4:21] emotions to the point of dissociating as [4:23] a defensive mechanism. [4:25] >> But then one day, [4:27] I heard a snapping sound and I never [4:30] knew pain again. She was unable to make [4:32] decisions by herself until she met the [4:34] Coocho sisters. [4:36] >> Next time you're on your own, flip this [4:38] coin to help you make a choice. [4:39] >> Similar to the Comedo siblings, Kana [4:42] could have become a demon just like Doma [4:44] if things had worked out just a little [4:45] differently. The key difference leading [4:46] to their diverging paths are, like the [4:48] previous master said, the sense of [4:50] entitlement and human will. Even as a [4:52] kid, Doma had the world at his feet and [4:54] believed everyone to be dim-witted [4:56] because of their hope for a better life. [4:58] Aside from man, he always had a [5:00] condescending heir when speaking to [5:02] anyone. Conal, on the other hand, came [5:04] from nothing, not even a name. [5:06] >> She doesn't have a name. All right. She [5:08] never got one. [5:09] >> It was through her time with the Coach [5:11] siblings, the butterfly girls, and [5:12] Toniro, that she slowly began to gain [5:15] back her will and passion. [5:18] >> Tonerro is asleep, so please be quiet. [5:21] You need to hang on tight. A lot of what [5:23] makes up these upper ranked demons are a [5:24] sense of entitlement or the idea of [5:27] unearned power without consequences. [5:29] This is especially true to the next [5:31] demon we see, Kaaku, the new upper Moon [5:33] 6. Now, we first saw Kaaku in season 1 [5:36] during Zenitzu's backstory. [5:38] >> Any effort spent on you is an absolute [5:40] waste of time. [5:41] >> Ever so brash and cruel, Kyaku would [5:43] admonish Zenitsu for being so outwardly [5:46] cowardly and resent the fact that their [5:47] thunderbreathing master deemed them both [5:49] to be his successors. Despite Zenitu not [5:52] being able to complete all the breathing [5:54] techniques, but as much as he boasted [5:56] about his strength, Kagaku was [5:57] internally extremely spineless and [5:59] selfish. In the letter from the Hashira [6:01] training arc, Zenitzu finds out that [6:03] their thunderb breathing master [6:04] committed sepeku due to his students [6:06] choice to become a demon. When offered [6:07] blood from Upper Mood 1, Kaiaku [6:09] immediately bowed to his strength, [6:11] turning back on humanity to save his own [6:13] skin. Now, this shouldn't be news to us [6:15] because we have seen him act in this [6:17] self-s serving way before. In the [6:18] Hashira training arc, during Guiome's [6:20] backstory, we actually see Kyaku as one [6:22] of the children in his orphanage. After [6:24] being caught stealing from the temple, [6:26] Kyaku runs into a demon and surprise [6:28] surprise, offers up the other orphans [6:30] and Guiome to save his own skin. So, [6:32] this leads to a massacre at the temple [6:34] and Guiam, falsely imprisoned for [6:36] murder. [6:36] >> But these are children we're talking [6:38] about. All they can do is think of [6:40] themselves. [6:41] >> Zenitsu and Kyaku's face off really [6:43] demonstrates the inverse nature of these [6:45] two characters. Kyaku's outward [6:47] arrogance and audacity masks his frail [6:50] principles and timid heart. While [6:51] Zenitsu's notable cowardice doesn't [6:53] overpower his perseverance and loyalty [6:55] to his loved ones, until he became a [6:57] demon, Zenitzu always regarded Kigaku as [7:00] an older brother, no matter how cruel he [7:02] was to him. [7:03] >> Good for nothing. Any effort spent on [7:05] you is an absolute waste of time. [7:07] >> Zenitzu defeats Upper Moon 6 with a new [7:09] thunder breathing technique, bringing [7:11] pride to his teacher. Yiro administers [7:13] first aid to Zenitu. Now, you'll notice [7:15] that he's now dawning a demon slayer [7:17] uniform. Yhiro is still the only demon [7:20] to be created by Lady Tamio and has no [7:22] ill intention. To maintain his safety, [7:24] he now blends in with the rest of the [7:26] core, hiding his demon status and [7:28] prioritizing healing the rest of the [7:29] core members. So, this leads to the next [7:31] major upper rank fight. Now, like the [7:34] title suggests, this movie mainly [7:35] focuses on the return of Aza and his [7:37] rivalry with Tano. For a quick [7:39] refresher, Aaza was the upper ranked [7:41] demon who showed up at the end of the [7:42] Mugan Train arc. His last fight with [7:44] Reng Goku was when the other flame [7:46] Hashira denied his offer to be a demon [7:48] and made his final stand. This urges [7:50] Tano to call out his fear of the sun and [7:53] demon slayers. After being bered by [7:55] Muzan, Akaza pummel the sword Tano shot [7:58] at his neck and vows to make him pay. [8:00] >> I'm going to save her tearing you limb [8:02] from limb. [8:02] >> While reuniting with Taniro and beating [8:04] Guillu, the water hashira, Akaza [8:06] suggests Guillu to become a demon. [8:08] Making the same offer that he did to Ren [8:10] Goku. Obviously denying this offer, the [8:12] three prepare for a showdown. Now, while [8:14] fighting, we can see just how much of [8:16] Ring Goku's spirit is reflected in Tano, [8:18] becoming a mirror of Akaz's previous [8:20] fight with the flame Hashira. [8:22] >> It is the duty of those born strong to [8:24] help those who may be less fortunate. [8:27] >> Tano also uses Rangoku's flame guard on [8:29] his new sword, keeping his spirit alive. [8:32] During the fight, Tano has to reach the [8:34] transparent world. To gain access, Tano [8:36] remembered his father's Hinami Kagura [8:38] dance. The Kagura was revealed to be the [8:40] sun breathing technique in disguise. [8:42] >> Not only is it the first one ever to be [8:44] created, it's the most powerful one as [8:47] well. [8:48] >> It was demonstrated by Tonerro's father [8:49] to be like any other breathing [8:51] technique, having to do it thousands of [8:53] times to get the movement down before [8:54] doing it with ease forever. Later, we [8:57] see Aaza's backstory. A's past is really [8:59] notable because it shows just how much [9:01] his perceptions were twisted after [9:03] becoming a demon. Like many pairings in [9:05] Demon Slayer, Ring Goku and Akaza can be [9:08] considered as foils. One is honorable [9:10] and believes the strong should protect [9:12] the weak, while the other believes the [9:13] weak should suffer for their [9:14] inferiority. But by looking at his [9:16] backstory, you can see how Akaza was [9:18] once similar to Ren Goku. His incredible [9:21] resolve to protect the ones he loves, [9:23] even if it means getting hurt, parallels [9:25] both Tano and the former flame Hashira's [9:27] motives. His obsession with growing [9:29] stronger stemmed from not being able to [9:30] protect his loved ones and despising the [9:33] humans who disgracefully wronged him. [9:35] But even as a demon, he still has [9:37] remnants of his past life, whether or [9:39] not it was willing. You can see that his [9:41] fiance's hair pin influenced the shape [9:43] and designs of his compass needle [9:44] technique, and the martial arts fighting [9:46] style was influenced by his dojo master. [9:49] The fight ends when Akaza realizes he [9:51] wants an honorable death to hell and [9:52] mutilates himself. The rest of the upper [9:54] ranks sense his demise. Upper Moon One [9:57] teases Aaza's last words to him, which [9:59] we saw at the beginning of the [10:00] Swordsmith Village arc. [10:02] >> I understand. I'm going to kill you if [10:04] it's the last thing I do. [10:06] >> With the main fight of the movie wrapped [10:07] up, we're still left with many battles [10:09] and character matchups for the rest of [10:11] the trilogy. The next movie will be [10:13] focusing on Kau's battle with Doma to [10:15] avenge her sisters and all the victims [10:17] that he left in his wake. Enoske is [10:19] running through the changing halls [10:20] similar to how he did at the Susami [10:22] mansion. [10:23] >> Coming through. Now, we still have yet [10:26] to see who Tokito and Guiome will go up [10:28] against. Based on Tokito's heritage of [10:30] sunbreathing users, a probable matchup [10:32] would be against Upper Moon One. Given [10:34] that he looks identical to the renowned [10:36] swordsman, apart from the six creepy [10:37] eyes on his face, it is very likely that [10:39] we'll explore more of their backstory [10:41] and family connection. We also have yet [10:43] to see Obana and Mitsuri's battle. Given [10:45] that we know about Obana's feelings for [10:47] her, [10:48] >> if they get ripped, then I'll give you a [10:50] new pair. [10:53] We can expect a flashy fight with them [10:55] professing their love or you know a [10:57] horrible death in a typical Demon Slayer [10:59] fashion. The movie ends with the rest of [11:01] the Demon Slayer scattered across the [11:03] layer trying to stay alive and find [11:04] Muzan. All of these plot lines will be [11:06] explored next year in the second part of [11:08] the Infinity Castle arc. So guys, that's [11:10] the ending explained for you.
