[00:00] Does the multiverse saga really even matter? Avengers Doomsday is being described as a direct sequel to Avengers Endgame. Should a fan who plans to see Doomsday take the time to catch up? It is crucial that Avengers Doomsday be a movie that anyone can walk into,
[00:15] even if they haven't seen a Marvel since Endgame. When you have a movie like Doomsday that you're hoping could knock on the door of being the world's first $3 billion film, you have to make it a movie that has no required viewing or homework in order to go see it.
[00:29] That is, of course, except for the $2.8 billion movie that everyone has seen, Avengers Endgame. Pretty much anyone and everyone who is going to go see Doomsday will have seen Endgame. But what you can't lean on is the multiverse saga, a saga consisting of a lot of Disney
[00:43] plus TV shows, plus movies that didn't even crack $500 million at the worldwide box office. You cannot have those movies and shows be required viewing in order to not feel lost going into Doomsday because you would be setting yourself up for failure.
[00:58] This saga's theme isn't really the multiverse at all as much as it is about what the multiverse represents. The consequences of choice, being the person you want to be or that you feel like you're meant to be or maybe not allowed to be.
[01:12] That is something every single multiverse saga movie has in common. When you layer that with the literal multiverse, a place with infinite versions of oneself, you actually have something pretty compelling.
[01:24] And that is why I think the multiverse saga, love it or hate it, or somewhere in between, it does matter, and it was not a waste of time. First off, these are movies and TV shows. Did you enjoy the time you spent watching said movie or TV show?
[01:37] If you answered yes, then no, it was not a waste of time. But on a story level, and if you want to ask the question, am I going to get the same feeling I had with Infinity War and Endgame, I still think the answer is yes.
[01:49] I think if you've invested the time watching the many stories of the multiverse saga, you will feel that payoff in Doomsday and Secret Wars.
