## Summary

The video presents a personal list of horror movies that the speaker finds genuinely scary, focusing on films that create lasting dread rather than relying on jump scares. The speaker discusses seven films, including It Follows, The Wailing, and Hereditary, explaining why each one is effective.

### Key Points

- **Definition of Scary** [0:49] — The speaker defines scary as something that 'sits with you' and 'gets under your skin,' not just jump scares or gore.
- **It Follows Premise** [2:10] — It Follows uses a curse transmitted like an STD, where a slow-walking entity takes human forms and cannot be killed.
- **The Wailing Overview** [6:04] — The Wailing is a Korean film set in a remote mountain village, blending horror with xenophobia and featuring a shocking plot twist.
- **The Strangers Realism** [10:06] — The Strangers is a home invasion horror based on a true story, creating terror through realistic scenarios and subtle background scares.
- **Sinister Found Footage** [14:43] — Sinister features Ethan Hawke as a crime writer who finds cursed film reels, with disturbing found footage that feels real.
- **The Descent Claustrophobia** [18:21] — The Descent involves a group of women cave diving, with claustrophobic tension and a sudden supernatural twist.
- **Hereditary as Scariest** [21:00] — Hereditary is described as the scariest movie, tackling grief with disturbing imagery and an unforgettable final 30 minutes.
- **I Saw the TV Glow Existential** [28:42] — I Saw the TV Glow explores existential horror and LGBTQ themes, using nostalgia and liminal spaces to create a sad, lingering effect.

## Transcript

So, I saw Us session the other day and
it genuinely scared the [ __ ] out of me
as I'm sure it did for a lot of you cuz
I've been seeing so many people talking
about how scary that movie is even
claiming it's the scariest movie they've
ever seen. Now, I wouldn't call it the
scariest movie that I've ever seen. Um,
you know, I've seen a lot of good scary
movies out there. There are a lot of
horror movies out there and they're not
all good. But in this video, I want to
talk about ones that I watched that I
actually found scary because I feel
like, you know, when movies like Us
session come out, a lot of people, you
know, really want to get more into
horror and I I really love horror and
I'd love for more people to get into it,
obviously, but I don't think all of the
most popular horror movies out there,
um, are actually genuinely scary. Um,
they can have good jump scares and maybe
a creepy monster and gore, but does that
actually make something scary? I I I'm
more into something that like sits with
me. It sits with me, it gets under my
skin, makes you feel uncomfortable, and
keeps me up at night. Like genuinely,
like I have friends that don't want to
watch horror movies because, you know,
they get scared by it, but I something
about the feeling of laying in bed,
looking over your shoulder, looking into
the dark hallway is it's like I don't
know what it is. I hate it, but I love
it at the same time. I'm sure if you if
you enjoy horror movies, you know
exactly what that feeling is. So, in
this video, I made a little short list
of horror movies that I've watched that
I actually find scary, ones that sat
with me, and ones that I still think
about today. And these aren't all like
super niche picture or anything. I'm
sure you've heard of or even watched a
lot of these, but I just want to talk
about them cuz they're some of my
favorites and they're just the ones that
really really got to me. So, let's get
into the first one.
It Follows is one of the first horror
movies that I
watched, honestly. I feel like as a kid,
you know, I'd watch people talk about
horror movies or watch clips here and
there, but I feel like It Follows was
one of the first ones that I really sat
down and fully watched as I was getting
like more into film. It's not the
scariest movie on this list, but I think
it just has such an amazing concept,
amazing soundtrack,
and it is scary. Like it it will make
you um walk around looking over your
shoulder. So, basically the movie is
about an STD. And I know
that sounds stupid, it sounds crazy, but
that's what it is. Basically, if you if
you have you heard of the snail meme,
right? You know the snail meme of like
I'll explain the snail meme if you've
never heard of it. People ask this
question a lot, like would you take a
billion dollars,
but there's like this snail that if it
touches you it kills you, and it's like
always following you, um and it can't be
killed, and and it's always going to
follow you, and if you get touched by it
you die, right? And it's but it's a
snail slow. So, a lot of people are
like, "Oh, I'd move around. I'd avoid
the snail." So, it's that's that's a
joke, but like the It Follows is
basically that same concept where
there is like this It's called the
entity. And this entity, we don't really
know what it is. We don't know if it's
alien or like paranormal. We don't
really know exactly what it is, but it
takes the form of like different human
beings. Basically, someone is like
cursed. Like someone might have the
curse of the entity, which means that
they are a target for the entity. Um
which means the entity will walk slowly
towards this person that cannot be
killed, they don't make no facial
reaction or emotion or anything like
that. They just walk towards this person
until they reach them and eventually
kill them. Um there's no killing them.
They're they're very slow, but they just
keep walking, and they won't stop until
they reach you. But the only way to get
rid of this curse and pass it on
somebody else is by sleeping with them,
having sex with them. Um so, it it's
like literally a play on like an STD,
which I think is really interesting and
and a really fun concept. So, basically,
if you're somebody that has this curse,
you'd have to sleep with somebody.
Um and then it the the curse is passed
on to them.
>> It's somewhere walking straight for you.
All you can do is pass it along to
someone else.
>> The thing is, if that person that has
the curse gets killed, then it goes to
the last person that had it. Now the
entity is following you again. So, um
this this this all leads to a lot of
really really intense and scary scenes
cuz like I said, the entity can take the
form of anyone.
So, you don't know a lot of time when
you see someone walking in the
background if that is Is that the entity
or is that just some like old woman
walking? Like you you don't know. Like
they could be anywhere in this movie. It
feels like it's like a Where's Waldo
almost where you're trying to find out
if these random people in the background
are the the creature coming to kill the
main character or just like random
bystanders. Um and the filmmakers do
some really really just like like
creative shots this way. Just like frame
There's a shot of her, the main
character, sitting in school in a
classroom and in the window you see this
like woman slowly walking towards the
window and like you don't even notice it
at first. And then and then it doesn't
cut, so you start looking around and you
and you just see the person walking
closer and closer and closer. It just
gives It gives me chills thinking about
it. It's It's such a awesome movie and
it has one of
the most like bloodcurdling like soul
leaves my body jump scares I've ever
seen. If you If you've watched the
movie, you know exactly which one I'm
talking about. I'll just I won't give it
away. I'll just say tall man. But my
god, I had that that scene completely
just had me like
like I was so scared when I saw that and
the image of it still sits with me. And
that's what I mean by a truly scary
movie. I feel like there's it needs like
a few images that you just you just will
not get out of your head. It doesn't
have to be like super disturbing or gory
or anything like that. But just a really
well-made horror scene that just never
leaves you. So, I I highly recommend you
check out
check out It Follows. I think it's super
original.
Um like I said before, amazing
soundtrack. I think it's just a really
well-made film and they're making a
sequel I I I believe called They Follow
which I'm really excited about. So, go
watch that so you're ready for the
sequel. So, go check out It Follows and
let's get into the next movie.
The next film I want to discuss is a
Korean film called The Wailing. Um The
Wailing is something that like I never
really heard about and I was just
surfing on Netflix one night and saw it
and I'm a I'm a fan of Korean cinema
um and I clicked on it and my god is one
of the scariest like 3 hours I've ever
had. It's a pretty long movie um but it
it flies by. It's I mean it's a bit of a
slow burn
but once you get going it's it's just a
total ride. Basically, it's
um it takes place in a small like rural
Korean town in like the mountains which
is an amazing setting. It's such a
unique and awesome setting for a movie
like this
and
uh follows a police officer a cop who
has like a family in the town and like a
bunch of the citizens in the town are
going like kind of crazy. Like they're
randomly they have no history of
violence but they're randomly like
murdering their own family members and
then they look like super weird after
like zombified. Like they I thought it
was a zombie movie when I was watching
it almost because I I didn't know going
in what it was but
they look like their skin is all rashy.
They're like freaking out. Their bones
are popping out. Like there's like
there's a lot of gore in this movie.
It's not like too much in like a
Terrifier or anything like that but the
movie feels more real than that. So,
those scenes feel more real and more
terrifying. And this is the thing is
trying to describe this movie to you it
just it's hard because it's such a
amazing movie with so many plot plot
plot twists and twists and turns. I
think it's really fun to go in blind but
so I'm not going to give away too many
spoilers but like
they're like the town's freaking out.
They've never seen anything like this
before. They start like getting
suspicious of this one Japanese man cuz
they're in a small town in Korea and I'm
not like the most, you know, I'm just a
white guy. I'm not like the most
up-to-date on the whole like cultural
like clash between Koreans and Japanese.
But, when I was researching this movie
after there was like they were talking
about that there is a bit of like
xenophobia or even like racism with like
like presuppositions made for Korean
people and Japanese and like vice versa
because of history and stuff like that.
Um, and this movie kind of like plays
around with that idea because
like there is this one Japanese elderly
man that lives in the mountains of the
town and all all the people start being
super suspicious of him like saying that
he's doing some sort of witchcraft or
devilry and like it he does seem pretty
sus in the movie. Like, he's doing some
weird stuff. There's like weird stuff in
his house like ritualistic stuff.
But, like you don't know what's going
on. You don't know if this guy is just
like a he could just be a weirdo but not
the villain and there's just a lot going
on in this movie. Um, it has paranormal
stuff. I don't want to say too much but
it has like one of the best plot twists
I've ever seen in my life. I never knew
where this movie was going. I think I
have it at one point and then it would
completely change um, what I thought was
happening. I think it's shot and acted
beautifully. It's just like a
masterpiece of a movie. Like, these are
all movies I really enjoy and think are
scarier on this list but I think The
Wailing is like genuinely a masterpiece.
Like, it's an amazing movie. So, even if
you're not like someone who loves horror
movies, I think this movie is just like
definitely worth checking out as just a
film. I think it's an amazingly made
movie. I think it has one of the
best endings I've ever seen. There's a
reveal of something and like a certain
kind of
like
take on
like mythology. I'd say there's like
there's a there's a certain take on the
kind of a certain entity. And I think
this movie does an amazing job making it
feel real and terrifying. And like I
think this movie just has such a it does
such a good job of creating a sense of
evil in this town. You really just feel
this town has been corrupted by evil,
like an evil spirit or something. And
it's so heavy and weighing on the our
characters. And just just watch it.
Watch The Wailing. It's amazing.
Um let's move on to our third movie.
Next up, I'm going to talk about The
Strangers, which I actually think is
probably my least favorite movie on this
list.
But it might be the one that scared me
the most or second most. I think there's
one more that scared me more than The
Strangers. But I I during this movie
I felt like total
just terror. I I I did not have fun
watching this movie.
Um I think I I'm like Letterboxd, I
think I rated it the lowest. I think I
had it at like a three or two and a
half.
Because I feel like it was just a bit
too much. Basically, The Strangers
is a home invasion kind of horror. All
of these movies, I think, on this list
have different kinds of horror, which I
think is why it's a fun list to make.
But The Strangers is it plays with the
fear of strangers entering your home and
and harming you. And I think that's just
like a fear that all of us can can
relate to.
Um cuz we've all had those moments being
home alone or it's just you and somebody
else. And it's dark outside and you feel
like you feel like someone's inside the
house or someone's outside the house.
You hear a knock at the door and you're
scared what it is and don't want to open
it and it cuz you're just so scared of
someone entering your safe space. I
think that's what makes home invasion so
terrifying is
um the thought of somebody like we are
all so safe in our house.
And the thought of somebody entering
that um and and completely ripping us
from our one safe spot on this earth is
just terrifying. So, I talking way too
much about what the themes are, the mood
the plot of the movie is basically
this couple, they went to a wedding for
their friend, but they're so they're
staying like a remote cabin. Um and
their relationship isn't doing so hot, I
don't think. They're kind of arguing and
maybe thinking about like breaking up.
And now they're in this cabin alone at
night and
they randomly get like a knock at the
door and it's like this creepy girl like
wearing like a mask and it's just super
cryptic and they don't really say much
and like oh my god, I'm getting chills
thinking about it. It It's like
they're basically just like getting
harassed by these like three
strangers.
>> Say that again.
>> Strangers like wearing these really
creepy masks and
it's like
I love when horror I'm going to get into
this more for another movie on this
list, but I love when horror
just can be subtle and doesn't like sh-
spam like what the they're trying to
scare you with at the forefront of the
screen. I love when something just can
happen in the background and this movie
does that so well where you don't even
notice it maybe on your first watch. I
think there was things I didn't notice
until later on. We're basically like
the like these you see things like you
see that people have gotten into the
house and now our characters don't know
it and we're the fact that it's
something that's like not shown to us
like immediately if like if you just saw
it in the background, your heart would
sink and you would just feel your like
you would feel just goosebumps
everywhere. I can't think I'm thinking
about it right now. There's a moment
where you don't even it's not like a
spoiler cuz it's it's not even it's just
like a thing where like the characters
are are the they've locked the doors and
stuff, but in the background you can see
like maybe the back door wasn't locked
and you see someone standing in the back
and it's just that that is such
good horror to me. Um and it's something
that
it it cuz it makes you think. Just you I
finished the movie and then I'm walking
around my own house and I'm just like, I
want to look around everywhere because
what if I'm not facing the direction I
should be and there's an intruder behind
me or something like that. I think it is
kind of inspired by a true story as
well. I don't know how much that is
actually, you know, true when it comes
to horror movies like Conjuring. Like it
was a true story, but it's like, is it?
I don't know. So,
definitely check out The Strangers if
you want some home invasion horror. I
think home invasion horror is terrifying
cuz it feels so real. There's nothing
supernatural about this one. It's just a
really really well-crafted horror movie
with really great um scares. And to be
specific, I think they remade this movie
and it was called this like they split
it up into multiple parts like
I think it's called The Stranger Chapter
1, The Strangers Chapter Chapter 2. It
had the girl from Riverdale or whatever.
Do not watch those ones. I've heard
those ones are terrible and they're just
like not scary at all.
Go watch the original one. I'll check
the Check what year it's it's made just
to make sure you watch the right one.
Okay, I just checked. Came out in 2008.
So, watch The Strangers from 2008.
It will leave you paranoid and
checking your doors for nights to come.
Let's move on to the next movie.
The next movie that I want to talk about
is Sinister. Now, Sinister is definitely
one of the most popular ones on this
list. You've If you're into horror,
you've probably watched Sinister or at
least have heard of it. It stars Ethan
Hawke and it is
um it's a really really good horror
movie. I think it's like one I would
recommend to a lot of like horror
beginners or people that are like diving
more into horror movies. Like if you
watch The Conjuring movies, I think this
is like the next step from that. I
really enjoyed The Conjuring movies,
but I think Sinister is a bit more scary
than those movies
cuz it feels a bit more like real and
dark. Sinister is basically Ethan Hawke
who is like this crime like he's a
writer and he writes these books where
he is trying to like solve cases that
were never solved by the police. So,
like families that were killed or stuff
like that that that that cases that went
cold, he kind of picks them back up and
puts clues together um and has actually
had some success in the past helping
like cases be solved. So, he's like a
popular writer, but he hasn't had a hit
in a long time and he's getting
desperate cuz his family needs money.
All right, two kids and a wife. And so,
they move into this small town and they
move into a new house um and he's good
he's writing a new book on on this
family that was killed.
But, what he doesn't tell his wife or
his kids is that the house that they're
moving into is the house that this
family was killed. The movie starts with
the family being killed and it was
actually like a group suicide that the
family did, but one of the children went
missing.
There was like a family with three kids
and one of the kids went missing and the
rest of the family like hung themselves
from a tree and it's it's just it's
really eerie.
Um so, he's in this house that like this
horrific tragedy happened in and he's
trying to keep that secret from his
wife. Um and basically he he's writing
his book and stuff and then he finds in
the attic of this house he finds a box
of like um videotapes, like uh reels,
like reels like like film reels.
Um and he puts the the film reels in and
watches it on the projector and they're
all like
um
killer like the the videos that the
killer recorded. Um a killer recorded.
Um and he's like stalking and these
these videos are like the some of the
scariest like most [ __ ] up things
you'll watch in a horror movie. It's
like a like the killer's POV stalking a
family
um and and like singing with it's like
weird it's like the the the design of
these horror tapes, they feel real, they
feel like something you'd find on the
dark web. Um they don't show you
anything like too graphic or too insane
or anything like that, but they're just
like truly, truly disturbing. Um and it
makes you feel super uncomfortable. And
as Ethan Hawke is like watching this,
he's going deeper and deeper. And like
and like what's amazing is this movie
doesn't like they don't show you all
these
recordings at once. You you get them
sprinkled throughout the movie because
as he watches these tapes, like weird
stuff happens. Like these tapes feel
like they're cursed or have like the
first of all how did that tape had that
box get there? Um
and Insidious I think is just a
>> [music]
>> it's a tremendous movie. Again, it has
one of the
best jump scares I've ever seen. There
are multiple good jump scares in this
movie, but I think this there's one
specifically that you just comes out of
nowhere and it's amazing. Definitely
check out Sinister. Same director as
like Doctor Strange and the Black Phone.
So he's worked with Ethan Hawke again.
[music] And he just makes really good
horror movies. Um
check it out.
The next movie that I want to discuss is
The Descent. The Descent might be one of
the more like unpopular ones on this
list. Um but it's it's a really, really
scary movie that I found recently and
watched. It's basically about
um these group of women that are friends
and um the one the main character had a
forget your fam- really bad family
tragedy happen um at the beginning of
the movie. Um and now she's agreed to go
on this like the at the beginning of the
movie there there were they were tie-
they they were river rafting and there
was an accident after that. Um so
they're like they're they're all
daredevils, they're all adventurers, and
and they're all adrenaline junkies. So
they decide to go on this girls' trip to
get her mind off the tragedy and go cave
diving in this in this like unexplored
cave. That already is something that I
think a lot of us fear. Caves are super
claustrophobic. We know I don't
understand why people decide to just
jump into
you know, these tight unexplored caves.
Like you don't need that's totally
optional. Totally optional. You don't
need to do that, but they still decide
to do that. Um
and that's what these girls do. They go
on you know, they go on
with cables down into this cave and
explore it. And
there's this this this really just like
uneasy feeling the entire time. Like
maybe they're being watched or something
like that, but they they're just
a lot of really terrifying moments of
near death and stuff like that. And I
feel like nothing
that like supernatural or paranormal
happens for majority of this movie.
But it's still just really really
terrifying. As the movie goes on
there is supernatural like elements
introduced. And when that is introduced,
holy [ __ ]
It is one of the It is one of the
strongest jump scares I've ever seen cuz
this comes so out of nowhere. So I'm not
going to tell you anything about it. But
The Descent
has more than
it is more than it seems. I love when
movies show restraint and don't um
like reveal all its cards right at the
beginning. I I I really respect when
movies like The Descent have restraint
to not reveal
all their cards right at the beginning.
And and just like let and just let the
movie just let the movie cook. Let the
movie cook and sit there and and go
through it. And I'd love to hear your
thoughts and in the comments if you've
seen the movie you know exactly what I'm
talking about. Um and you'll you'll know
the jump scare. You'll know the jump
scare. So if you go watch it, come back
and let me know what you think. Check
out The Descent cuz it'll scare you.
Let's go on to the next movie.
Next up is the scariest movie that I've
ever watched. Um and that is Hereditary.
Now, Hereditary is very popular. You've
probably watched it if you like horror
movies, you've definitely heard about
it. It is truly, truly scary. When Us
came out, a lot of people were talking
about how they compared it to like
Hereditary. Like, I feel like Hereditary
set the standard for like what a
terrifying modern horror movie is. And
people It's like It's like that every
time there's a new like movie like Us or
like Smile or whatever, I don't know.
When it's like a big popular horror
movie, I feel like people are like, "Oh,
like they're comparing it to
Hereditary." Cuz that's how scary
Hereditary is. Now, Us did not surpass
Hereditary for me. I think Hereditary is
a better movie. I think it is a scarier
movie for sure.
Um, this movie is I don't even know how
to describe it. It's Ari Aster, who also
directed Midsommar, which is also a
really good horror movie, but not as
good as Hereditary. No No No way near as
good as Hereditary in my opinion. And
it's a very different kind of horror.
Hereditary tackles grief and loss in
such a like sad and terrifying way. Um,
Midsommar does something similar
tackling grief. But, my god, Hereditary
has It's It's a truly disturbing movie.
We're talking about like This isn't a
movie that I would recommend to people
that are like just getting into horror.
I think there are actually like really
depressing
>> [music]
>> and disturbing themes in this movie. So,
you have to be really ready ready for
that. This isn't like any of the other
movies that I've talked about. I feel
like the other movies that I've talked
about on this list,
besides maybe The Strangers,
are all like fun to watch even though
they're so scary. They are very scary,
but they're fun to watch. You know what
I mean? There's like Um, it they almost
kind of more feel like a haunted house.
Like, they're like, "Oh my god." Like,
when you get scared in a haunted house,
it's it's really, really scary, but
like, you know you have you you know
you're there having a fun time. You know
what I mean? But, like, Hereditary isn't
a fun time. It is not a fun time.
Hereditary is terrifying and it has
imagery that has sat with me since that
I will never forget. Um Hereditary is
about a family um that basically has
their grandmother pass away.
Um and we slowly learn that the
grandmother was involved in some weird
like cultish things and this is now
coming back to bite her family. There's
um stuff that happens with the father,
there's stuff that happens with the
mother, there's stuff that happens with
the the son and the daughter that's like
truly disturbing. Um
it all comes together and in the last 30
minutes
I have never been more scared in my
entire life. Like truly, I am telling
you right now the last 30 I don't want
to hype this movie up too much because I
feel like
uh
I feel like people like
because it's so popular and so many
people have said what I'm saying about
how scary it is, I feel like people go
in with like the mindset of like oh I'm
not going to get scared. You know, I'm
going I'm going to be like I'm alpha,
I'm not going to be scared of this. I've
seen so many comments saying Hereditary
is not even scary, like what are you
talking about? Like no, it is a
terrifying movie.
It is so well made. If you weren't
scared of it, I actually don't
understand how. And I feel like the
thing with horror you got to really like
be in the right mindset for things. I
feel like you could watch like an action
movie and it's like no matter if you're
like
with your friends or on your own, I feel
like you can you still like get the same
kind of stuff out of it. Like you can
really respect how cool something is, a
stunt, an explosion,
the choreography hits the same. But like
I feel like horror is so atmospheric and
it so much depends on your mindset and
your your own like atmosphere. Like when
I watched Obsessed, I feel like part of
the reason I didn't find it as scary as
other people was because there was
people
in the theater talking behind me like a
lot. Like anytime something scary was
happening, they're like oh [ __ ] Oh,
fuck." And I'm like, I get that they're
having a good time, but like for me,
that takes me out of the movie. It makes
me feel less scared. If I would have
watched Obsession alone on my laptop, it
probably would be one of the scariest
movies I've ever seen.
Um
but like, man, Hereditary I did watch
just alone with my girlfriend and
it it really scared me. So,
I think if if you're someone that didn't
think it was that scary, maybe try
giving it another shot and watching it
alone or something instead of like
drinking with your friends and watching
it and talking the whole time and then
saying it's not that scary. Cuz I feel
like that's a lot of people's
experiences with certain horror movies.
They don't put themselves in the right
atmosphere to be scared. Um
but Hereditary is it's not just, you
know, like it's not like brutal in like
terrifying for the sake of it. I think
it has things to say. That's why I think
it's a good movie. It it's tackling
grief in a really really like
interesting and depressing way.
Um it has I think Toni Collette, who
plays the mother, is it's one of the
best performances I've ever seen in a
movie ever. I think she probably should
have won an Oscar for it. I think it is
it she's
who shows her trauma and her fear
and everything else she does in that
movie, she does it so well. I I think
it's it is one of the best performances
I've ever seen from an actress or an
actor.
Um and like I said, the last 30 minutes
of Hereditary, I could I just think of
it and I instantly get shivers. I
instantly look at the corner of my wall
thinking I'm going to see something. And
what I talked about earlier um with the
strangers about movies that have things
going on in the background that le it
leaves it leaves up to the audience to
notice, this is the prime example of
that for me. There is a scene in this
movie
where
it it holds a shot at like a bed where
someone wakes up and it's holding a shot
and the shot just holds and there's no
music and there's like no dialogue. It's
very quiet. It's a son waking up asking
where his family is. And
it it holds on that shot for so long and
you're just like, "Okay, like what's
going on?" And then you start looking
around like, "What is that? What the
[ __ ] is that?" It's like
And then and then it moves and it's like
it's one of the scariest things I've
ever seen in my life. It still sits with
me so much and man, that ending and
everything was just incredibly scary.
And there was a interesting interview
with Curry Parker, the director of
Obsession, talking about like the modern
jump scare.
Um cuz he's talking about how like he
loves in movies and he and he puts in
his own movies, his horror movies, like
he wants to he loves jump scares that
aren't like loud noise and like someone
jumping and screaming and stuff like
that. But he loves jump scares that is
like something uncanny, something that
makes the audi- like the audience feel
uncomfortable, like the what like saying
like, "What what the [ __ ] is that? What
is that?" Some- like a human shouldn't
move like that. Someone shouldn't smile
like that or make a face like that or or
stand like that. I think and it's like a
a quick like jarring shot of that. It
doesn't need a giant loud sound or
anything like that. Just seeing it, I
think that is such an effective way of
scaring someone. Like just having an
uncanny moment. And this movie does that
so well, having people stand where they
shouldn't be, having someone's standing
in the in the dark corner of a room and
you can't just make out what it is and
then by the time you do, they're gone.
It's just like Stuff like that scares me
so much. Hereditary is truly truly a
horror movie that sits with me. It
scares me every scene.
Um and I want some of the top of it, but
I also don't because that means I'll
have something new to think about and be
scared about when I go to sleep at
night. So watch your Hereditary at your
own risk. If you have seen it, let me
know what you think about it cuz I I I
really do love talking about that movie.
Um but now we're going to move on to the
final movie of this list.
I saw the TV glow is
I watched it pretty recently and
it is one of my favorite movies of all
time. I think all out of this entire
list, I saw A Dark TV Glow is my
favorite movie. That it's not the movie
that scared me the most, but it is the
one that I feel like affected me the
most. And out of all the horror movies
on this list, this one has a very
different type of horror. This isn't the
type of horror that like
makes you jump in your seat or makes you
like scream or anything like that. But
it really it gets under your skin
in an existential way. Existential
horror
is something that I it really affects
me.
Um I've had existential crises before
thinking about like my place in the
world, what what happens when we die,
all this kind of stuff. And and like
what is what is the purpose of life?
Like does more more mortality and stuff
like that. Uh I feel like this movie
just explores themes like that like
really really well. Um and it also is an
LGBTQ movie that like really
I feel like made me empathize with
like the trans experience more than like
I ever ever understood. Th- there's not
like in your face about it or anything
like that. It's not even something that
was like totally clear to me until after
I finished the movie.
But like once I did I was just like I
felt like heartbroken. And I I think
it's a really important movie to watch
to like understand that like what like
the fear in like in in people and um
about that kind of stuff. And
I feel like
it's hard for me to understand. I'm not
the best person to talk about that kind
of stuff. I just feel like when you
watch the movie hopefully you understand
that and maybe read up about read up on
it. But like the idea of like it really
made me think about if someone was trans
or wanted to like, you know, like change
um
to like the other gender like what like
it would be like to not act on that in a
way, you know what I mean? Like living
your entire life like feeling like you
should be somebody else, but you only
don't do it because of society and
societal pressures or your family
pressures and stuff like that. And then
you're like
old on your deathbed and then you think
about it and you're like
and then you're like, "Oh my god, it's
too late. Like it's too late." Like that
that that thought, it's like it's too
late now. I can't do it. I wasted my
entire life because I cared about what
other people thought. And I can't take
that back. Like time is gone. Time is
passed. I cannot take that back.
Um
that is like and I could I could have
been happy. I could have been this, but
instead of live my life not fulfilling
my true self.
I think that idea
I saw that TV glow
just
covers in such a bleak way. And it
really really made me just feel sad and
like I felt it like in here. It's this
is like one of my favorite movies in a
way that like it covers it has a lot of
things. It has it has amazing themes
about like identity and time and being
yourself.
Um
and
and on like death and stuff like that.
It has amazing themes about um it has
like it has like liminal space and like
nostalgia. Like it it captures like my
nostalgia in a way that has like it has
like very like early 2000s vibes. I
think that's when it takes place.
Um and like there's it's like honestly I
think it almost has better liminal space
than the actual Backrooms movie. I think
there's like there's a lot of shots of
like elementary school gymnasiums and
they're underneath like the big um like
like parachute, you know, they used to
play games with. And like and the like
being in ball pits in an arcade or at a
movie theater. Like it just like it just
captures or like suburbia and stuff as a
child. Like it just captures those vibes
so well
um and puts them into like a horror
liminal space that I think
it just feels it feels nostalgic, sad,
depressing all at once. And it also is
topped with
one of my favorite soundtracks I've ever
heard in a film. It has all these
original score, all these the score is
actually by Alex G, the the the artist.
And he does an amazing score, but the
actual soundtrack with all the songs
it is incredible. I've been listening to
those songs a lot over since I watched
the movie.
And they just make me they just make me
so sad when I listen to them. So,
if you are into horror that might leave
you feeling a bit depressed, I think I I
saw a TV show is right up your alley.
But it's it's it's like it's truly a
scary movie in the sense of like what
we see our characters go through and
what their fate is, you know what I
mean? And I think it I think it's a
wake-up call to a lot of people about
not wasting your life and stuff like
that. So, I think it's a really
important movie. I think it's a
beautiful movie, amazing soundtrack,
so so well made, and just scary on a
different level that the other ones
aren't, you know what I mean?
So, that's my list. I I I hope you
enjoyed hearing me just like kind of
ramble. This isn't like a video that I
wrote a huge script or anything like
that, as you can probably tell. I kind
of just rambling. But I really really
love horror.
I've been playing a lot of horror games
recently, and I've been just really
watching horror movies
a lot. And because Obsession came out
and it's everyone's talking about the
really scary movie of Obsession, I
thought it'd be a good time to make this
video.
So, if you're out there and you're
trying to get into horror movies, I
think these are ones that will scare
you. Because I think there's a lot of
movies out there that are popular that
aren't actually that scary and
people hype up to be like super scary
movies. To me, these are ones that
actually scared me. They actually got me
jump scares, left me feeling dread or
anxiety or anything like that. If you
enjoy definitely being scared, check
these movies out. I think they're worth
your time. I think they're truly scary.
Um and I'd love to hear your thoughts on
them in the comments below. So, if you
enjoyed this video, let me know. I'd be
down to do other videos like this for
different topics, just rambling and
stuff like that. Um but thank you for
watching. Again, comment down below uh
if if you also if you have
recommendations for me,
please comment them cuz I want more
movies that I find scary. I want to
watch more horror movies. So, if I
didn't mention something, um these
aren't the only horror movies I've
watched. I just picked a few to talk
about. So, maybe I'll do a part two one
day. But, comment movies uh
recommendations cuz I'd love to watch
more. So, thank you for watching and I
will see you guys in the next one.
