[00:00] These five foods may be aging you faster than sugar, not because consuming them immediately makes you old, but because regularly consuming them increases glycation, DNA damage, inflammation, and lipid peroxidation. Number five, refined grain pastries like donuts, cookies, and croissants. [00:14] They combine refined flour, sugar, and fat with high-temperature baking. This can create advanced glycation in products or AGEs. The dramatic increase in glucose levels also promotes even more AGE formation inside the [00:26] body. Consuming a high refined carbohydrate meal has been seen to reduce facial attractiveness in studies, so the effect is quite real. Number four, alcohol. Your body converts alcohol into acetyl aldehyde, which is a toxic compound that can damage DNA. [00:39] Alcohol also increases oxidative stress and inflammation, and it makes you bloated from the inside out. Heavy alcohol use over eight drinks per week is associated with increased upper facial lines, under eye puffiness, mid-face volume loss, and just older appearance. [00:53] Number three, heavily charred meat. grilling or frying meat at very high temperatures produces heterocyclic amines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons These compounds can damage DNA especially when the meat is blackened or directly exposed to smoke and flames Modestly cooking and modestly frying your meat doesn seem to be an issue in moderation but super charred meat has the most amount of these carcinogens Number two repeatedly reheated oils and fats Every heating cycle increases lipid [01:19] peroxidation. This produces reactive aldehydes and other compounds that can damage cell membranes and promote inflammation. This is especially relevant with restaurant deep fryers, where the same oil may be heated repeatedly for dozens of times. And number one, processed meat like sausages [01:34] and hot dogs. Curing smoking and high-temperature processing creates N-nitroso compounds and other carcinogens. Processed meat is classified as a carcinogen because of its association with colorectal cancer. And in a study on over 2,800 adults, each additional daily serving of processed [01:50] meat was associated with shorter leukocytomeres, which is a marker of cellular aging. Now, you shouldn't get too obsessed with each individual food, and you don't always need to be perfect. The goal is to eat generally minimally processed foods, avoid super high-temperature [02:03] cooking and super high temperature frying. But your overall health matters a lot more than a single meal.
