[00:03] last week was the last WAN show before some major >> Well, that's a bit of a >> changes that we'll be talking about. >> I mean, do you agree that it's a very big change? [00:15] >> It's sure, but I think framing that way makes it like less concerning. >> you just you just ruined all the >> No, I think it's pretty concerning. >> Okay. >> W show will never be the same. We'll be [00:28] talking about all the tech news from this week, including Oh, really? GPUs are supposed to go up in price. >> NO, WE ALREADY lived through this one [00:44] >> multiple times. [laughter] >> This is double jeopardy. You can't get can't >> You You can't be a witness for your spouse's crime. You can't live through a GPU apocalypse twice. These are [00:59] >> This is This is We're beyond Twice, though. What else we got? >> Uh, Grock completely ruined my morning. Uh, Grock is being used to generate non-consensual sexual images of both [01:12] adults and children. And it's like actually as bad as it sounds. Uh, we'll talk about that later. Um, and apparently good news. >> No, good news. Please, please balance it out. So far, we've got bad news. Bad [01:29] news, but I think it's kind of fun. Unlucky RTX 580 buyer who received rocks their replacement from Best Buy. They >> All right, let's >> Yeah. And it's kind of sick how they did [01:44] >> Let's go with that. >> There's nothing like hacking into the files of the principal office. >> What's this? An energy vortex. Organic life forms. Oh, how quaint. I [02:03] seem to have discovered a portal into a parallel universe. Extraordinary savages. [snorts] I'll show you. [02:39] The W show is brought to you today by Vessie, Delta Hub, XSplit, and Motion Gray. alongside, of course, our rap partner Dbrand, our laptop partner, partner Dbrand, our laptop partner, Razer, and our chair partner Razer, who [02:51] if they thought they were going to be treated more respectfully than our pre Wait, was it already upside down? [laughter] YOU GUYS ARE SUCH TROLLS. [03:05] >> Perfect. If you notice, and you put it [laughter] and you hit the correct that way, that would have been so funny. close. >> All right, why don't we just [03:18] >> That intro was amazing. Who made that? >> I actually don't know. I would assume it >> I assumed that as well, but I didn't see like a thing or anything. >> So, why don't we explain what the heck was? [03:30] >> I believe >> it was the team themselves. >> Really? That's so cool. >> Okay, we should explain it. Reboot was a Canadian animated television series that was produced by Vancouver-based [03:45] Mainframe Entertainment uh alongside Alliance Distribution and BLT Productions. And it originally aired on YTV from 1994 until 2001. That's right. YTV from 1994 until 2001. That's right. Reboot was my childhood. That's what [03:59] was a kid. >> Yeah, me too. and it's notable for being the first made for television CGI series with full halfhour episodes. Reboot Rewind is an eight-part documentary series about the show that came out in [04:15] series about the show that came out in 2024. And now the documentarians are collaborating with Mainframe to remaster the series from its original D1 tapes. we put off this topic for a couple [04:30] weeks, but recently the Reboot Rewind team put out an update video on the progress of the D1 tapes being recorded and Sven uh gave me the TLDDR. Every episode has been captured off the D1 tapes, which was non-trivial. Uh BTS [04:46] machines are being used to capture the footage at the original 576P and LT has actually been helping with this project for like 2 years now supplying Kiosia drives for storing the footage as well as helping pay for some [04:59] of the machines and parts of the machines. See, there was a big challenge >> functioning >> working machine to read these tapes [clears throat and snorts] >> media production moves so fast that no [05:15] one's really thinking about how we're going to preserve all of this stuff. And in the early days of computer animation and digital production, the standards were hardly even standards and they didn't last very long and they weren't [05:30] interoperable. So this >> and when the when the like manufacturing pipeline for making these things goes away, it's actually extremely difficult in some cases to like make bespoke parts for these things. So needing to source [05:43] >> So we should have a video coming out in 2026 on LT about this project. It's been literally years in the making now. And then at the end of the video, the reboot rewind host mentions they happen to also have the D1 tapes for Transformers Beast [06:00] Wars, aka Beasties, as it was known in Canada, along with other cool old CGI and they're trying to get in touch with people about remastering that stuff as [06:13] doing a lot of the hard work to restore each episode, which is being and mastering glitches. episode. There you go. >> That was sick. That was very cool. [06:27] Rewind folks shared some restored cutscenes from a reboot PS1 game, which for these animated cut scenes because they've never been seen in better than [06:39] they've never been seen in better than PlayStation 1 FMV quality. Seriously. >> That is pretty cool. >> That's pretty cool. Oh my god, that >> That's pretty cool. Oh my god, that looks that looks clean, dude. [06:53] >> Holy crap. >> We had a give and take relationship. She gave me the power to control the tears and I took her life. [07:05] tears and I took her life. And next time, the guardian will be so And next time, the guardian will be so fortunate. [07:40] >> Now, now, X, let's not be petty. Accidents can happen. [08:13] This is the countdown to chaos. [screaming] [08:27] crazy. >> I know, right? >> I know, right? Oh, that is so cool. Anyway, um discussion question. Talk about, you know, the value of media preservation. [08:40] our work? Not enough. I mean, realistically, oh man, I feel like moment. I was about to say realistically I don't think it matters that much but then like someone's going to want some reference for even something as simple [08:55] reference for even something as simple as how wellreceived was this GPU at that as how wellreceived was this GPU at that time and if we don't keep the media from >> Yeah. >> Um and I think that's how a lot of [09:10] you, like when you're in the thick of it, it's hard to it's hard to think about these things. Um, why don't we move on to our next big Um, why don't we move on to our next big topic, which is, of course, [09:24] H. Sorry, I'm looking for good news. >> We had We started with good news. >> We did start good news. We could we >> You know what? No, no, let's do a little bit more [09:37] >> moderate news. >> Okay. There is a potential workaround >> Okay. There is a potential workaround for expensive hardware, older hardware. for expensive hardware, older hardware. The Ryzen 7 5800X, an AMD CPU from like [09:50] The Ryzen 7 5800X, an AMD CPU from like 5 years ago, has just hit the number one 5 years ago, has just hit the number one spot as the top selling CPU on Amazon in >> [laughter] >> And even older CPUs uh or even older [10:04] GPUs like the 5800 XT are sitting at fourth place for GPUs on Amazon in the US. eBay is currently flooded with people selling older hardware um CPUs, GPUs, motherboards, and yes, of course, older DDR4 and even DDR3 memory. And I [10:22] want to shout out Techbot here for doing a little article that Luke has actually been bugging us to do something about, which we are actually working on in the background as well, although a slightly different angle, but doing a little [10:35] different angle, but doing a little article talking about the usability of slightly older hardware. They showed that if you compare CPUs, they they that if you compare CPUs, they they actually tested 44 CPUs and going as far [10:49] back as the Ryzen 5 2600 in modern games like Battlefield 6, you can still achieve a more than playable experience at 1080p high. And I think this is a really important thing for people to [11:05] consider right now is like this is not really our discussion question is not really a question. It's more of a statement. You don't need to buy new expensive hardware. >> Dude, my uh one of my buddies from from [11:17] high school, his son um is currently running I might get some of the specs wrong, sorry, but I think it's like 8 gigs of RAM, maybe 16, but I think it's eight. Uh a GTX 1080 and a 7000 series [11:33] eight. Uh a GTX 1080 and a 7000 series Intel processor. and he plays um whatever that Riot Games shooter is, Valerant and uh Arc Raiders. And he was over 80 FPS. Just like dude, these are these are [11:47] point. The the 1080 doesn't even have like official continual driver support, but like I don't know, whatever. If it plays the game that you want to play at plays the game that you want to play at at like 80 something FPS, um why not? [12:01] [snorts] And like, do I love spending $100 on an old GPU? >> But it's also 100 bucks. >> But it's also 100 bucks. >> And there might be a better I'm not This isn't a suggestion. That's just a a rig [12:15] >> Yeah. >> No, 100%. And here's the thing too is like I can totally understand people not wanting you know like being frustrated to hear like are you basically just you know telling me that you know two dolls [12:30] ought to be enough for for a child. They don't need 10 dolls or 20 dolls or whatever that ridiculous thing was. No, I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that >> channeling your inner scrapyard warrior [12:42] is a great way to ride out times like this. Like I guarantee you, I don't this, >> but I guarantee you that at some point >> but I guarantee you that at some point he built a stop gap system. [12:58] waited for something else to be more affordable or something else to release or when you were in between selling your last generation GPU and waiting for a deal on a new generation one or [13:12] whatever. I mean, I had like uh I think I've told you about this before where I was able to buy a platform upgrade through the Intel retail edge program, but I couldn't [snorts] afford the rest [13:24] of the upgrade for like I think it was like half a year or something. And one of the ways that I was able to afford it was I sold my old platform and my old case, but that meant that I didn't have a case. I got the new platform, I didn't [13:36] have a case. So, I got this like handme-down case, but the power button didn't work. So, I set up like a rubber band bow basically and a pencil that was poke the pencil and it would press the the on motherboard power button to turn [13:50] the system on. >> And I had that for at least half a year. >> And that's totally >> I think stuff like that's cool. >> And that's totally fine. Making stuff work is is cool. When did that not be [14:05] >> When did that not be cool? I I almost always for a long time there. Uh I apparently don't build my own computers anymore cuz the last two that I've had either you or your kids have built. But um actually last three cuz there was a [14:19] three I I mean I had a little bit to deal with the one in the middle. But still um but before then I would always include one thing that was just like a weird solution cuz I thought it was fun. Like there was one time I I mounted my [14:33] pump on a cutout piece of the mud flap of my old car to use as like sound deadening. So it was on this like rubber panel instead of a plastic panel in the case cuz it made it was just quieter and it worked and it was awesome and I like [14:46] >> Um so don't don't like feel bad about thought that's super cool. And something that's really important to note about stop gapping is that it can even it can even [14:59] even it can it can help it might feel like well I'm buying something that is going to like go down in value and effectively of the thing I actually wanted. So I [15:12] thing I wanted. But let me let me show you guys just some interesting math you guys just some interesting math here. Right. So, a 1080 you can acquire pretty easily for about $100. And if you don't feel like paying shipping on it, [15:25] >> don't pay 200 bucks for one. >> Yeah. Do not pay $200. If you don't feel that something that you buy on eBay might not be working, Luke and I have might not be working, Luke and I have both tested GPUs that we've purchased on [15:38] local marketplaces live. Like, test it. Make sure that it actually works. And the thing about an older GPU like this is that it's already gotten very low on >> Someone in Flow Play chat earlier said 1080s have been around $100 for years [15:51] now. >> If we go back to like a GTX 780. Okay, >> here we go. Those are still like 45 [16:03] bucks, you know, 25 bucks, $70, whatever. there that and that's a two generation older card, right? Like wrap your brain around that. You could stop gap with this 1080 for 3 or 4 years and it might lose [16:19] for 3 or 4 years and it might lose another $50 to $75 in value. Whereas, if you could wait a year or you could wait a year and a half on a current generation card, the second that gets replaced by something, I guarantee you [16:32] replaced by something, I guarantee you that you will gain more by just delaying that purchase than you lost by acquiring that stop gap card and then just reselling it. Uh, like it's I don't know, man. I don't know what to tell [16:44] you. It's uh it's kind of a frustrating thing because you know how we often have that conversation where it feels like there's this pressure from certain corners of the community for us to be more outraged for us to like [16:58] >> demand that Nvidia lower their prices as if they're going to listen to us. And prices are too high and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah but >> and and that's and that's all true but at the end of the day I mean we did that [17:10] video recently explaining that it's not just Nvidia. I mean, Nvidia has Nvidia is a very profitable company, but so is TSMC, who has a monopoly on the manufacturer of the chips Nvidia sells. And for that matter, so is ASML, who has [17:25] a monopoly on the machines that TSMC uses to manufacture the chips that Nvidia sells. And monopolies abound >> and you're you're talking about >> companies that are holding up nations. Yeah. when you get to that scale. [17:37] it's like, yeah, I could I could like demand that Nvidia lower their pricing, but I I don't have that influence. It's it's it's so ironic, right? Because >> Well, >> I can't influence companies to change [17:51] their pricing. And our discussion question here is, is it frustrating that it seems to go the other way, too? Because for over a decade, you and I have been going yabby yabby yabby yakity yakity yakity yak at our audience. That [18:05] is what we sound like >> going, "Hey guys, you don't have to buy a brand new one. The secondhand market exists. Making do with something scrappier is is honorable and based. [18:18] >> And it doesn't war. >> And it doesn't even seem to mean >> No. Some people get it though. Some people do get it. Every once in a while subreddit where someone's like, "I did my own scrapyard wars and I came out [18:30] with this or whatever." Those are big moments for me. I I >> I genuinely love that. This was one that was >> That's okay. >> This was one that was frustrating for [18:43] me. This This video bombed out of the gate. Like, it's done okay in the longer term, which is which is heartening. >> I remember this having issues out the gate, though. I do remember that. [18:58] >> But you know what? In spite of it having issues out of the gate, this video about, you know, scrapyard waring uh like a Facebook marketplace home theater setup for a fraction of the cost of even a crappy soundbar um did inspire [19:14] multiple on the subreddit of people being like, "I had no idea. This is so cool. I love my setup now. Thanks for inspiring >> That's why we do it. That's why we play the game. I uh I I I loved it. I'm I'm [19:29] glad when people get the point. >> I also find that you learn a lot more about your craft. Um okay, I guess I'll concede that building computers is not concede that building computers is not quite as easy as adult Lego. Um but when [19:42] it's all brand new out of the box stuff, it is a lot more simple and you're often websites that are telling you compatibility things off the hop blah blah blah blah blah. When you're on the use market, you're trying to [19:57] price minax and that often means mixing things together from different sellers in different areas and trying to make sure that everything's going to work and like on the spot if you can go visit somebody um and be like, "Hey, can I [20:11] bring a test bench to test this thing? I've done that a bunch." Um and learning what program you should run to try to verify if it's legit on the spot. All learning stuff about your craft which is kind of like fun and cool. Um, I have [20:25] that old board, by the way. Um, if you want to do I don't know if you want to do a video on that or what, but the board with the wire repair, it's at my >> Okay. Yeah, that's that's probably an >> from Scratch Wars Scrapyard Wars season [20:39] 4, there was a repair that I mean, it goes above my head. I'm sure people watching might understand, but I don't. Um, there's a a single wire that runs from one fan header to another fan header on a very specific pin on each, [20:52] header on a very specific pin on each, probably power. Um, but uh if it if that wire isn't bridging those two fan headers, it doesn't work. >> And if it is, then it works perfectly fine and has worked perfectly fine for [21:04] >> Like >> in some cases acting as like a 24/7 server for like months at a time and stuff like no issues just as long as headers. >> And this motherboard made magic smoke at [21:18] some point. So I I don't quite I can't quite fathom it. [laughter] Who knows? But stuff like that's awesome. Like I that gets me way more jazzed up than >> I can tell. >> Oh. [laughter] [21:37] >> Um what what are we supposed to be doing, Dan? How's it going over there? relaxing. >> He's five and out. [laughter] Christmas energy strong. >> Uhhuh. [21:51] thing. >> Yeah, probably that. [laughter] approach this? >> I mean, you're the one that keeps trying to let the cat out of the bag when I'm >> I'm not about I'm not about cats getting [22:06] out of bags. I keep cats in bags. I'm like a cat bag kind of guy. I stuff on Lancho. >> I mean, >> I don't know if you can [laughter] >> Yeah, but I keep all my cats. Are you [22:19] so many things to leak? >> I thought you meant literal. I thought you meant Yeah. No. Okay. Sure. Figuratively, yes. I let a lot of cats >> All of my actual cats are in a bag right now. [22:31] >> Altogether. Yeah. >> No. [laughter] >> I braced for the clarification. It's sad that it had to happen, but it did have >> [gasps] >> The WAN show is officially as of [22:46] yesterday >> under new management. >> Well, not really under new management. Actually, the management is the same, [22:58] Actually, the management is the same, but the ownership is different. This is but the ownership is different. This is a pretty major change going forward. Um, a pretty major change going forward. Um, but I have um [23:10] I don't know I don't know what you would call it, but I I have abdicated call it, but I I have abdicated half of my ownership stake of [snorts] the WAN show. Um, >> people are saying sold out [23:24] [snorts] Mr. He did sell out >> Mr. Luke Lafrenier. >> He sold out to me. >> It's official. The WAN show is [snorts] >> It's official. The WAN show is [snorts] a 5050 partnership between me and Luke. [23:38] a 5050 partnership between me and Luke. Uh we have we have what's it called? We've incorporated a new media holding company uh Adequate Media Inc. uh which company uh Adequate Media Inc. uh which owns the WAN show. So technically [23:53] my half of it is actually owned by me and Ivonne because we are one person um from a legal standpoint. So, uh, we own half of the WAN show and then Luke officially owns the other half of the WAN show. It, uh, we've had a lot of [24:09] know, what is what is Luke's Equity Stake and and this and that. And the answer has always been Linus Media Group was founded and seed seeded by me and [24:21] was founded and seed seeded by me and Ivonne and we've owned it 100%. But the Ivonne and we've owned it 100%. But the WAN show clearly has two people in its WAN show clearly has two people in its soul and one of them is this guy. I [24:34] think that uh I think that for the WAN show to show to continue to be the WAN show forever. Um the only right way to safeguard its future was to [24:49] have it be a a Linus Luke equal partnership. Uh so the change then the partnership. Uh so the change then the big change is that the WAN show is is safe and that the W show will not change. [25:04] >> Well, it is a big change. >> The W show was unsafe. >> that it's not a change. >> You and I have talked about it, right? that, you know, if you took a position somewhere else or that if I retired from [25:17] whatever, >> we'd still want to do that show. >> But that agreement, right, it's [snorts] >> But that agreement, right, it's [snorts] verbal, it's handshake, it's, you know, [25:30] we're we're friends, but it's not codified. It's not in black and white. >> Yeah. There's no actual there's no guarantee that we'll be able to put together the correct financial [25:45] incentives to ensure that whereas now to ensure that whereas now it's very clear. [25:57] people are saying like oh it shouldn't be 50/50 because someone should always be able to make decisions and stuff. I'm like, "Yeah, I mean, it's still kind of in Lionus' hands if we're being real about things." Um, he [26:13] we're being real about things." Um, he still owns Lionus Media Group. Uh, the people who basically like run WAN show operations wise are LTT people, LMG operations wise are LTT people, LMG people, etc. Um, this is not like Yeah. [26:29] >> However, >> it's very cool symbolically. That's today. I don't know what I don't know what our >> however many cuz when we've been talking about W show futures, we've been talking [26:42] about like that we want to keep doing this in like >> Plus, so this is this is a a step towards it being reasonable to do this in 20 years. >> Exactly. I for for today um you know [26:57] what will what will probably happen is there will be an agreement between Adequate Media Inc. and Linus Media Group that Adequate Media Inc. will Group that Adequate Media Inc. will promote products and services like [27:11] promote products and services like float plane or creator warehouse or you know whatever and then Linus Media Group will find sponsorships and realistically Luke is still employed as a as an employee of float plane and Linus Media [27:26] Group and and all that stuff. So for today there's no change but for a today there's no change but for a potential future where who knows what potential future where who knows what happens uh this ensures that there is a [27:40] there's a strong incentive that's not I mean it's not just financial too right like Luke called it symbolic but I think it's more than just symbolic I think it's uh I think it's >> well those there's the there's the [27:54] talk about that >> I I mean, sure. I'm not sure exactly >> The [clears throat] like the the agreement that you were just talking about of like the services and whatnot are supposed to balance things out. So, [28:08] this isn't like a um I'm not like looting LMG. >> No. [snorts] No. And and the idea behind it is that that would never happen. And the only time that >> the only time that any of this would [28:22] change to the status quo. We're just trying to get out ahead of it and make sure that everyone's on the same page that we want to make sure that Wan show indefinitely >> basically however long. Yeah. [28:36] >> Yep. Keep the streak alive. >> Yeah. So like effectively nothing is really changing honestly internally or externally. Um, >> however, starting soon, uh, we will start streaming the WAN show on a [28:49] >> and >> and on the LTT channel and then over >> eventually >> some point stop streaming the WAN show [29:01] on the LTT channel and it will move to a dedicated channel. Either we will take over the LMG clips channel or we will create a new channel. So you guys will have to go subscribe to a new channel in order to get your notification for the W [29:15] show live stream and and find the vlogs and all of that. Um, stay the path asks, "What about on float plane?" Don't worry, float plane streaming is not Sorry, Luke. [laughter] [gasps] [29:27] keep going here. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Uh, is there any is there anything else? Did people have any kinds of like questions? [29:41] questions? Um, for Dan. Dan still works for Linus Media Group. Um, he is a incredible incredibly [29:53] valued member of the team. Um, but from like a, you know, there at the beginning standpoint that that that was Luke um, at this [30:05] time. But I you know what I really appreciate the community's um [laughter] appreciate the community's um [laughter] love of Dan Flip plane chat is uh Dan love of Dan Flip plane chat is uh Dan they what can I say they they love you [30:19] they love you. Yeah I'm here too. [laughter] All right. Should we should we move on to our next topic? [30:34] listen to the show, so what does he care? Topics don't care. Topics don't care about your feelings. [snorts] >> Yeah. >> US the the US blacklists new foreignade [30:49] drones from entering marketplace. >> No, no, the the Oh, yeah. The market. Like basically, you can't sell Yeah. new non US-made drones cannot be sold. I it sound like Facebook. Um, yeah. No, it's just the marketplace in general. [31:05] foreign made drones and critical drone components, citing national security concerns, which as an aside kind of makes sense. Um, a move that will heavily impact DJI rather specifically, [31:18] which dominates the US drone market. The ruling blocks companies like DJI and Outel Robotics from introducing new drones in the US through existing models. though existing models are not affected for now. The FCC says foreign [31:32] data exfiltration, and disruptive attacks, arguing that all future UAS, which is just uh basically UAV, but it's system instead of vehicle. Um, all future UAS hardware should be [31:48] risk. >> And these are not [clears throat] entirely ridiculous sentiments. >> No. Uh, drone pilots and commercial operators have pushed back hard, warning there are no real alternatives to DJI's [32:01] affordability and capability. Industry groups say many businesses could shut down without access to DJI hardware, while DJI itself calls the ban anti-competitive and claims multiple reviews have found its products secure. [32:14] anti-competitive and there are downsides, major downsides for that. Um, there's that whole thing where like China encouraged Tesla to come into China encouraged Tesla to come into their market to push their own players [32:29] to be more competitive. Basically, like invite the big dog in to to get your people to act up. Um, clearly DJI is already in the states and alternative. So, that's not exactly working stateside. Um, [32:44] >> so I had a chat with my brother-in-law. Uh, I've talked about him before. Um, this is the company that he works for. It's pretty cool, by the way. They're um, >> basically they're they're building a [32:57] >> basically they're they're building a platform that is designed for individual drone operators to be incentivized. You can actually kind of see it in this visual here, be incentivized to capture highresolution drone imagery for global [33:11] highresolution drone imagery for global mapping. Um, and not just like mapping like like like Google maps, but more like uh the kinds of highdetail models of our cities and the world that could be used for things like um uh mineral [33:28] be used for things like um uh mineral exploration or for um one of the ones that he brought up for me was like firefighting. Um, there's all kinds of firefighting. Um, there's all kinds of cool stuff that you cannot do without a [33:40] cool stuff that you cannot do without a a high high resolution map. And there currently is not a practical way to capture that. That isn't just flying drones with high resolution cameras over every square inch of the globe and then [33:56] ingesting all of that data and making it accessible. So that's the that's the challenge that they're working on solving. And um yeah. Yeah. El Elanor says um Specsy is crowdsourced GIS, which is honestly so [34:10] cool except like except like even better. Um it's really really cool tech. Uh anyway, the point is that, you know, when this announcement hit, uh he and I [34:23] when this announcement hit, uh he and I were actually on a beach in Cabo and his phone just like this started exploding because like going, >> "What do we do now?" [34:38] >> Yeah. Okay. >> Like we're supposed to use a domestic you even talking about? >> Yeah. Okay. Well, guess what? Ju just like it always is, [snorts] there's a there's a political there's a [34:54] political angle to it. >> Oh, is there like some company? >> Oh, is there like some company? >> Is there some company? website. This is terrible. Uh, second new board, blah blah blah blah blah blah [35:11] blah blah blah blah. Advisory board, blah blah, etc. Drone company. Yeah, of course. Of course it is. >> Super cool. That makes sense. Yeah, I I definitely if if we completely ignore that part because like obviously uh I [35:24] Donald Trump thing, >> it doesn't seem obvious to everyone. It doesn't seem obvious to everyone. >> Fair enough. But even if we ignore the >> Fair enough. But even if we ignore the clear corruption issues, um I understand [35:38] why they would want to do something like this. future warfare, like even if you Ukraine war. >> Oh, yeah. >> Future warfare has completely changed. Um, and it is extremely drone based at [35:51] domestic drones, and if you're like, "Yeah, our entire domestic drone industry is um actually just DJI." Um, I can totally understand why that would be ways to solve this. I think there are ways to incentivize [36:07] um you know like stateside drone companies, straight side drone drone manufacturing without just banning competition. Um but I can understand why from a defense perspective you would want to make sure that you're protecting [36:20] not necessarily banning competition but protecting your own drone manufacturing. I think there's a variety of ways to do that that aren't banning it. The only why they're doing this, not that I necessarily agree with it. Um, [36:35] yeah, I think the, you know, subsidizing, promoting, doing something to push local drone manufacturing and research would be a good idea instead of, you know, banning competition and then setting up your your uh family [36:49] then setting up your your uh family member for an aloop. Um, anyways, next topic. Yeah. I mean, I don't know. I feel like [37:03] really have any more anything more to say about that. We'll we'll see how it goes. It's going to drive up the price of existing models for sure. Um, it's of existing models for sure. Um, it's going to it's going to cause a delay in [37:20] the in the quality of available drones in the US compared to other markets where DJI will continue to export and continue to innovate. be the problem. People have been able to make drones at home for a long time. I [37:34] do kind of wonder what this will look like for parts. Um, did it did it >> Drone market. >> Uh, okay. Yeah. So, critical parts. It FPV community is like losing their minds, too, cuz even [37:49] >> So, wait. So, it's not full drones, it is drones and parts is what you're >> Yeah. So, it's like where you going to get uh like a your your USmade processors and motors and everything. >> Yeah, that's that's like years out, I [38:04] think, at the least. >> Yeah. Well, well, we'll see how it goes. >> If kind of ever. That'll be interesting. >> We'll see how it goes, man. Um, actually, this is a this is a good question. Uh, is this going to be uh is [38:17] this going to be as good as the is the is the Trumpbacked drone company going that thing ever get Did that thing ever get delivered? >> Oh, yeah. >> No, it exists today. What is this? [38:31] >> Okay. Yeah, first ever smartphone is delayed and uh and the government >> Oh, nice. That's good. That makes sense. >> Why does that make sense? What would that have had to do with anything? Same coverage as the as the whatever. [38:47] Okay. Yeah. So, they're still pretending that this is going to be a thing. Um, is being like made in the USA or is that is that gone now? Cuz at the beginning it built for people who expect more. Okay, it seems like they have removed [snorts] [39:04] they've removed anything about it being Americanmade. >> Um, so it looks like there are some >> designed with American values in mind. >> So they have a refurbished S20. Oh, they have additional phones now. They have [39:20] refurbished phones and then okay, proudly American. What does that mean? Designed with American does that mean? Designed with American values in mind. With American hands [39:34] behind every device. It is amazing how much you can pretend It is amazing how much you can pretend to say something and not say it. It's brought to life here in the USA. That [39:48] brought to life here in the USA. That doesn't American proud design. USA. None of it. That Oh man, [40:01] I don't even know why they care. I don't even know why they bother to pretend cuz it's not like anyone's enforcing anything anyway. So, they might as well point. >> Um, [snorts] someone linked this list. [40:14] >> Yeah, >> the blue list. It's a cleared list of drones, but it says specifically um it's a cleared list for drones approved for DO, which I think is Department of War because they renamed [40:27] >> Sure. >> Um and there's like there are Skyo >> Um and there's like there are Skyo drones and and other various things on here, but I don't I don't know if this is consumer cleared or if this is just [40:40] >> This is great. KittyKitty says, "Don't try to understand the grift. It's just a grift. It's like closely inspecting a brown paper bag on your doorstep. You >> Out of here. >> H Yeah, that's fair. [41:00] Sort of. [sighs and gasps] Oh, we could do a tech house update. >> Yeah, do it. >> I was there today. We took possession uh 3 days ago and I didn't get a chance to go there until we did our shoot today. [41:13] So, if you haven't been keeping up, there was a video on the LTT channel where we went shopping for a tech house. And the idea behind it was pretty straightforward. We've done a lot of kind of upgrades in in my house to the [41:29] point where my house is fine. And we don't we don't Oh, yeah. >> Are your auto lights fine? Well, well, no, but that will that will fix. no, but that will that will fix. Actually, Inavi's shipment of new lights [41:41] going to be way better and I'm really excited about. Have lots of fixes compared to the ones I'm using now is like in customs clearance right now. like in customs clearance right now. Like, I am stoked to finally have the [41:54] lighting experience that I promised my family years ago. Anyway, that's besides the point right now. The point is, we don't need to make another video of Lionus upgrades his living room TV every other month. Uh my my living room TV is [42:08] other month. Uh my my living room TV is fine. And so this tech house is going to give us kind of like a it's almost like a test bench. It's it's like the computer test bench of like not just smartome stuff because I think there's [42:23] people who are interested in home automation but also just practical deployments of technology whether it's computers or TVs or audio [42:36] equipment or I mean okay do you remember that video that you did years ago on gaming? >> Okay. >> Bit of a [42:50] >> What would What? What? I wasn't trying I'm not trying to cut anybody. >> No. No. Deep cut means like an old reference. >> I think it does. >> No. I think it means like a like a [43:03] >> What am I trying to think of then? >> I don't know. significant wound that might need medical attention. >> No, like the whole chat is saying that I'm right. Luke does know this one. [43:15] >> Yeah. It's just slang. >> Oh, okay. I thought I thought it's like uh I thought it was like a like a like a stab, don't twist. Like that's a bit of a deep That's a bit of a deep cut. >> I'm sure it is also used for that. [43:29] >> I'm sure it is also used for that. >> Uh okay. Bit of a deep cut slang meaning a song judged to be less commercial or radio friendly. Uh >> I like genuinely the entire chat. [43:43] There's got to be something to it. >> Urban dictionary. A song is Boomer Dictionary at this point. >> Only true fans of set artist will enjoy >> Only true fans of set artist will enjoy or know. [43:58] Song obscure work. Okay. Well, that's clearly closer to your definition than it is to mine. So, sure. Yeah. Yeah. Let's go. >> I think [snorts] [44:10] >> anyways, it's just it's just a I don't think that video like did well and it's >> So, it's just a surprise. I don't even know what I would type in to search for >> Yeah, don't worry about it. The point is that like we we want to we want to use [44:24] this place as an opportunity to talk about building a sick tabletop gaming >> Or building a super cool >> Dude, there's a lot of really cool stuff projector game thing has been like very leveled up. Um there's there's some [44:40] really awesome stuff you can do. >> Yeah. And so so [snorts] pretty much what we were looking for was a place with really good bones and with um [44:52] reasonable ease of use for upgrading them. Uh cuz okay, yeah, it might have been more realistic for us to find a place that didn't have a crawl space for instance, right? that we were going to be ripping off drywall for absolutely [45:06] every single wire we were going to run, stuff like that, right? But that's not We're not a home renovation channel. This is our first kind of kick at this can. Uh we wanted something that we could [45:24] So, we got a place that not only has a main floor, >> which is sick. stuff. >> Yeah. It's It's not tall. Like, in order [45:37] >> Yeah. It's It's not tall. Like, in order for me to get down there, I have to be completely almost like like butt down to the ground and it's like here. So, literal crawl space. >> Good name. Uh, but it also has a it has [45:53] a little like I think it's called a dormer. Like it has one room that's on we're going to we're thinking we're going to convert that to like a media room and then it has a couple little crawl pathways along the side of that as [46:07] well. So, it's got really really good access to getting fishing wiring down or up into wall spaces. And it's actually this video is going to be really fun cuz highle overview because we're just touring it because we were shopping. [46:24] Whereas in this one we really start digging into some of the really weird stuff the previous owner did. Like he was obviously >> Okay. >> One of the bedrooms has I kid you not [46:40] three RJ11 jacks in it. There's al like like like like a phone >> Yeah. There's also an RJ11 jack next to the toilet. >> No. Okay. That that that was a thing. Very odd, but yeah. I've always thought [46:55] head. >> Oh, sorry. I'm fidgeting. Um >> Oh, sorry. I'm fidgeting. Um >> Oh, man. Uh no. To have like a a phone >> Oh, >> man. [47:08] >> man. What happened? >> the W show quality is not going to get this, just so you guys know. >> Um, yeah. Yeah, toilet phones were were [47:23] a thing for sure. I I always thought it's kind of >> pretty unsanitary personally, but you just putting it on your face, it's there. I can see it both ways. >> Um, yeah, sure. But it's the three in [47:37] >> That's interesting. >> Yeah, I couldn't quite wrap my brain cool. >> Nice. >> Nice. >> Um, man, there's Oh my god, I I swear [47:50] video you could like play music throughout the house on like the on that >> I think so. Yeah. >> One out of every three like like duplex receptacles like power outlets had one of those six gang ones like bolted onto [48:05] He was a major fan of power strips and extension cords. Like um he had he had an interesting system where you could only run either the dryer, the closed [48:17] dryer or you could run this extension cord 240 volt outlet that he had just like coiled up using inwall wire and just like into an octagonal box like [48:31] had like a 240 volt extension cord in his garage that you could not run at the >> kind of sick >> a sign above the dryer in German not to the garage. >> Kind of sick. [48:45] >> it's honestly like people are saying that sounds bad. I don't know enough but it sounds pretty great. >> Oh, it's it's the Let me put it this >> Oh, it's it's the Let me put it this way. I think this guy's idea of safety [48:59] first was the four fire extinguishers that he had in his garage [laughter] not starting a fire in the first place. Like he he would just he'd be like, [49:14] "Yeah, I'd love to have a cable outside the house, so I'm going to just take a [laughter] and go through the wall." Like that was and go through the wall." Like that was his way. And he's got like a shed in the [49:27] back. He he he had a bit of an infestation. So, we found that in the inspection report, which Colton did not share with me until after we have >> bought it and took possession. So, [49:40] >> Yeah. Infestation. Major infestation. His solution was these little noise makers that you plug into. Yeah. They >> Noise makers. >> Yeah. It didn't didn't help obviously. [49:53] Yeah. So, I'm kind of thinking tech house cat. We just get a pet and keep it Colton doesn't want to do that though. He wants to like hire an exterminator. I think that's so dumb. >> I think a cat would take care of any [50:07] rodent issues around this house like quick styles. Dude, I don't I don't see Oh, I shouldn't say that. I have seen mice in my house. They were dead >> or in a fish tank thing. [50:21] >> Okay. Well, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Those were pets sort of. It was complicated. >> They're temporary pets. >> And eventually they were dead. So >> It did. It worked exceptionally well in that case. [50:35] >> yeah, >> Linus just wants another cat. I mean ah >> yeah, >> another cat's not a bad thing. Um I'm to say about it. Oh, there were some other things that were found in the [50:50] today on the show. >> Yeah. Are you saying those? >> particularly bad. >> Yeah. You know about the foundation >> Yeah, >> foundation and drainage issues. So [51:02] one, too. I mean, usually they, as far as my understanding goes, they often go >> yikes. >> So, I guess we're going to have to I guess we're going to have to figure that out. But, dude, I'm I'm excited. This [51:14] does sound like bought a house in Vancouver vibes. Not Vancouver, but I'm saying that for the public Vancouver area. that for the public Vancouver area. >> Yeah. Public audience. But um this sort [51:28] infestations. A lot of them are old and have foundational problems. just kind of yoloed stuff. >> Yeah. Unlike Australia where it's like apparently illegal to make improvements [51:42] certified. you know about this? You don't know about this? That's a thing. >> Well, yeah, but the flip side is that I bet they probably don't have stuff like >> I mean, their housing market is just wrecked. So, [51:56] >> I mean, so is ours. >> So, there's that. >> Um, and maybe I misunderstood that. Anyone Anyone from Upside Downland can can verify for me? Anybody? Anybody? Beer. [52:16] back deck in Oz. Didn't get council approval. Apparently, electrical is a no no." Yeah, says old Tom. There you go. 100% true in some ways. Okay. Yeah, there you go. Migor says, "Would you trust a criminal to fix their own home?" [52:31] They're not all criminals. They're just descended from them. [laughter] Total different totally different ball game. Okay, I don't believe in the sins of the father. Okay, that's not how this works. So, dude, [snorts] this place is like [52:46] found this bo this like rotten box in the backyard that just had an outlet in it that there's no way that it was like watertight and that outlet had one of those freaking six outlet things on it. [53:01] Just in the yard. Like, why? He didn't even have more than one thing plugged into it. [laughter] So why why he just he just put them everywhere? Just put them on everything. Oh god, no. Please stop. [53:14] >> I think James said that he had two built-in vacs. then one that was running somewhere else. I didn't actually verify that. I because it didn't make any sense to me. But maybe he's right. Maybe he's right. [53:29] >> Yeah, we'll see. >> It's going to be cool though. It's going to be I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I uh as I was walking around, half of me was really excited about all the cool [53:41] projects that we can do and then the other half of me was like, "Oh god, have we bit off more than we can chew?" Like, it's obvious that there's a couple little things that they did just to prep the place for sale. They they like [53:55] the place for sale. They they like they've just obviously redid the uh the they've just obviously redid the uh the main bedroom on suite bathroom like like all modern. It has a sliding barn door entrance and it has freaking barn doors. [54:10] >> Why even have a door? >> Like they're so dumb. They don't block any sound. They don't block any smell. It feels like you're declaring that this that's the case, like >> just have it be a pocket door and then [54:22] we could ignore it or just have it not be a door. I guess that's an option, hotel rooms that just >> don't have a bathroom door because the world wants to watch each other's [ __ ] [54:35] >> Which I don't I don't fully understand. Like, I'm not going to I'm not going to [laughter] I just don't need it. Yum. [laughter] [54:56] about it? Yeah. Right. So, they redid the main on suite bathroom and it looks so out of place. Like just completely out of place. They did like a like a like a granite or marble countertop and then like this new shower that uh David [55:11] Pancrretz was there today. He was like, "Oh, that's a Costco shower." that. They put in a bunch of new like vinyl plank flooring in some places and or whatever it is. It was '90s. It was the '90s. It was a different time. They [55:26] >> Pink carpet was a thing. >> And then they but then apparently the inspection report found that it was either the on suite or it was the the [55:38] main floor bathtub is just draining directly into the crawl space. Oh >> Huh? >> They they it's completely cosmetic. I found a can of paint in one of the closets that just says all walls. [55:54] [laughter] So like classic throw a coat of paint on So like classic throw a coat of paint on it. Redo the main on suite bathroom. Put some vinyl plank down. [snorts] Slap some lipstick on this pig and get this [56:07] thing sold. And we bought it. >> to be fair, I think that was going to be the situation >> Yeah, [56:20] >> I mean, no, we did find stuff that was not that much more that was pretty something moving ready. >> You wanted to work on stuff. that was perfectly nice. >> How much was it? Is that disclosed? [56:35] >> Throw away a bunch of stuff. Um, I mean, I think people could find it easily enough. M >> um so it was actually I don't know what the final I don't know what we paid >> because I know that we did negotiate [56:47] because of like oh yeah your foundation has problems and like >> that can be a pretty big one >> and your um and your [snorts] like drainage has issues and there's all this stuff that's not up to code. Like I [56:59] think there was a bit of negotiation but I think the list price was 1.3. >> Okay. Yeah. So, there's definitely ones there that are not bad. this place >> I thought it was like pretty lower than [57:12] >> but this place has a yard. >> Um, which is not a given around here. house. >> You'd think with the amount of space thing, but nope. >> Well, you know, here's the thing, right? [57:26] >> Yeah, I'm going to show I'm going to show the map of BC. >> Let's educate the masses. >> Yep. So Canada's really big, but also the Merc projector pro or projection makes it seem a lot bigger than it is if [57:40] though. >> It's still really big, but it's also like it's not that big. Like remember was like hey does anyone actually know that Africa is like [57:54] >> enormous >> enormous and that Europe is like not um cuz like you know like Africa is like not that much smaller than like freaking Asia like it's freaking huge like did anyone did anyone realize you know any [58:08] of this? Did anyone know that Brazil is like freaking the size of the US pretty like freaking the size of the US pretty much? Not not quite, but like on a Mercer projection map, the these things do not look right. Um anyway, the point [58:23] is that while Canada is very large indeed, I'm just going to go ahead and uh >> mountain rain >> terrain on here or the the the topography. [58:36] problem. >> like this little thing >> tiny flat part of British Columbia [laughter] [58:49] [laughter] and and then it's just all it's all just there's like there's like a little there's a little valley here. Uh there's another one here. Uh this one's kind of part of the same one. And then up here [59:02] part of the same one. And then up here is just here be ice dragons [gasps] Um, and then yeah, we have some we have some plains that also are full of ice dragons for half of the year. And then [59:16] you can kind of you go south enough that it's livable again for a bit. And uh then here be mountains again >> and more ice dragons. So Canada's >> Yeah, [laughter] there's a ton of ice [59:30] >> Yeah, [laughter] there's a ton of ice dragons. they do have mountains. Um you [snorts] know they have a lot of the same problem [59:43] as us sort of through this area here. But then they also have just like oh wow look at all this like perfectly flat not infested with ice dragons land that is >> A lot of wind dragons. >> That's true. Definitely wind and and [59:58] >> Yeah. They got their own kinds of dragons down there. dragons down there. >> Yeah. So, yeah. Excited for Tech House. It's going to be great. [01:00:12] I'm not going to think about it too much right now because I got CES next week, to be fun. >> How did you get out of CES anyway? I I was kind of looking at the year and [01:00:26] going like, "Okay, there's two like CES like shows that are in heavy contention." Computex. >> Yeah. [snorts] I'm going to bring Nick and Lucas. Um, and we're going to try to go see [01:00:41] I I'm trying to talk to some brands. Um, there's a couple brands that are that are interested in doing this right now, but we want to go see, you know, how we've been doing this like kind of tour of testing and validation and [01:00:54] performance testing labs. We want to go do that, but also in Taiwan. We want to see how they design and test power supplies like at their actual location. >> Oh, that's cool. >> Do different things like that. Um, it's [01:01:07] to companies, but I think it's cuz we're not super close to Computex and everybody's focused on CES right now. Um, so hopefully after CES the the conversations will kind of prop up, but I was looking at like um, you know, with [01:01:22] no sponsor or anything for the labs side, bringing down either myself or myself and two others, which were the two potential plans, and then paying for flight accommodations, all that kind of stuff for a week. What am I going to get [01:01:36] out of this event? >> And it was like, nah, I don't know. I can maybe swing one event for the year, >> right? And if I can tie on these like potential brand tours of like seeing how these things are performance tested, [01:01:50] seeing how these things are designed and whatnot to the Computex one, that sounds a lot more valuable. Um, so I'm going that angle. >> Also, you just would rather go to Taiwan. [01:02:05] [laughter] because you know and I know that all of because you know and I know that all of that whatever that hardly listen not like Vegas and I might really love Taiwan but I think that's irrelevant [01:02:19] really. >> I think my other I might have I might one. >> Yeah. Yeah. I'm pretty sure that was >> It might also be very reasonable. It might be a good construction. [01:02:33] might be a good construction. >> Plausible. You might say [laughter] had mechanisms to get myself there. Listen, your justification can be whatever it wants to be. I'm not going to crash out ABOUT IT. [01:02:50] >> WHAT A what a segue, dude. >> And what a first merch drop of the year. The crash out t-shirt. >> Yeah, I guess I can also [01:03:05] There it is, boys. You ever have those moments where for like half a second throwing your laptop across the room feels like a totally reasonable troubleshooting step? Me too. And that's what this shirt is for. When your [01:03:18] patience is basically gone and you're still pushing through it anyway. >> It's printed on our super comfortable blank t-shirts and comes in both regular and tall. If this shirt feels uncomfortably relatable for you, you can [01:03:33] get yours at lmg.gg/crashout. available on the US store. And it looks a little something like that. [01:03:50] Get it in any size you want and any length you want as long as it's black. Uh, what else do we have for the store this week? Ah, yes. This is less of a this product is available and more of a this product is coming extremely soon. [01:04:07] this product is coming extremely soon. Be ready. LT truepec cables are coming. These cables are crafted with care, built with a strain relief that bends with the cable instead of against it, reducing stress where breakage often [01:04:22] happens. Uh, we have paired that strain relief with a supple silicone jacket that resists UV damage, kinks, and tangles. And the high-speed conductors >> Yep. >> And the high-speed conductors are [01:04:38] individually shielded to reduce interference and keep your transfers running. Every connection feels effortless and every performance remains of that sentence meant, [laughter] uncompromised performance. And [snorts] [01:04:55] we feel that the right cable should fit your setup, not the other way around. So whether you need a short run for your desk or a longer reach that goes across >> we will have an option that will work for you. Each connection type, USB A to [01:05:11] C and USB C to C, comes in 16 thoughtfully chosen speed and length thoughtfully chosen speed and length combinations. And every cable is clearly marked. You might want to give them a little zoom on that. For speed and [01:05:24] power, giving you the confidence to know that the performance you expect is the performance you will get. You can sign up to be notified once these drop at up to be notified once these drop at lmg.gg/cablesignup. GG/cable [01:05:38] signup. Now, it is worth noting that you guys might look at that 15 watts on the one that was on the left and go, "Well, that seems pretty weak at a time when you can do up to 240 watts on a USB cable." That's because that has a type A [01:05:52] connector at one end. And when we say true spec cables, we mean that we are remaining true to the spec. So there are technically products that exist within the USB ecosystem that are not to spec. Extensions for instance exist, but from [01:06:09] chatting with Tyen about it, they are not spec. Like there there is no accounting for the connector losses and >> and the and the losses from the length that we're adding to these cables. when [01:06:24] you plug a cable into an extension, uh, you just got to like pray to Thor that it's going to work because that's about your best shot of ensuring that it's won't work. It just means that it might not. So, we are sticking with whatever [01:06:39] the we're sticking with whatever the maximum we're sticking with whatever the maximum official spec power and data transfer is within the USB specification for any given length. So, what you might notice [01:06:54] is that our longer cables, even using the same connectors at the ends, uh, might be rated for a slower data speed. >> That doesn't mean that you might not get a better data speed if you happen to have, you know, really tolerant devices [01:07:10] at either end, but [snorts] we aren't going to guarantee it. We're all about true spec on these. Um, >> I really like the name personally. >> Yeah. Yeah. I think it makes I think it makes a ton I think it makes a ton of [01:07:23] makes a ton I think it makes a ton of sense. Um Frosty Koger says the onto my only 10 Gbit per second capable cable. Yeah, right. Like it's so annoying. Um so that was a big part of where this came from is like in my life [01:07:37] the one I actually need in a given moment. And whether it's that they're not rated for a particularly high speed and I'm doing a big transfer and I'm another cable and restart it or is it faster to just wait for this to finish?" [01:07:52] I don't know. Uh or whether you get one of those ones that only has the conductors for charging in it and you like you plug it into your phone and weird like it's not in data transfer [01:08:04] mode or is or okay, I'll go get another device or is it this cable? I don't I just want to eliminate uncertainty from my life. So with the LTT cables, [01:08:20] type-C to type-C at this length is whatever the best cable could be for whatever the best cable could be for that. And I'm G to G. So this is this is a longer one. So this is a 20 Gbit per second 240 watt. [01:08:34] to go past. >> Yeah. So, I think this is what a sixfooter or something like that. Looks like it. Uh oh. Maybe a little longer. Yeah. Anyway, this is the one that I carry around for for charging my laptop. [01:08:47] And it is worth noting that we are not doing Thunderbolt cables uh at this doing Thunderbolt cables uh at this time. So, these are all at most uh USB 4 >> VGA. >> Um VGA. You You don't mean like actual [01:09:03] >> Yeah. VGA. >> Uh, yeah. So, we're So, we are not doing display cables at this time. Um, >> see how well these go. I guess >> we're going to see how we got to we're This is something I think people often [01:09:17] >> New segment, dude. Uh, Speaking of people often forgetting, this is 16 SKs. >> And this is 16 SKs. >> No, this is 16 lengths for each connector type. Double it. This is 32 SKs. [01:09:31] >> Oh, that doesn't that isn't what it sounds like. type. Yeah. All right. Wow. >> So, so what a lot of people forget is that in the grand scheme of things, we are actually still a pretty small [01:09:45] company. So, we need to we're dipping our toes in. We're going to start with USB and then we're going to make sure that people actually, you know, care and are willing [snorts] to pay for, you know, a silicone jacketed um, you know, [01:09:59] know, a silicone jacketed um, you know, properly shielded highquality cable. And if people care about that, then we would love to explore doing HDMI, display >> I was carrying one of these that I stole from Tynen. [laughter] [01:10:14] uh, on a bunch of my trips and I'd show it off all the time and people liked it. It's very nice. just because it's very nice doesn't mean it will be necessarily [01:10:27] really just got to wait and we got to see how it goes. And that's how you you build a business. That's how you build momentum. >> What actually got a merch message uh asking about display cables. Maybe we [01:10:41] >> Which ones? >> Uh asking about display cables. whole time, Dan. >> No, I mean this has more specifics if >> Oh. Uh sure. Yeah. Why don't we do that merch message then if you guys are Oh, [01:10:56] right. So, if you want to get notified once these drop, because I can tell you that our initial order quantity, we have no idea which lengths are going to be the big sellers. We went a little tentative on things. So, if you want to [01:11:09] get what you want to get, go to lmg.gg/cablesignup. and you will be notified as soon as these drop. We have taken our time with [01:11:21] this. We have done it carefully, done it thoughtfully, and I'm actually really very excited to launch this. >> Super cool. don't we do merch messages? If you're not familiar with the show, merch [01:11:36] messages are the way that you interact with it. Instead of just throwing money ltstore.com, which Luke is going to bring up on his laptop right now, which is, of course, a Razer laptop. Laptop Partner. There you go. Yep. Yep. Look, [01:11:49] this is what their logo looks like when it's upside down. Um, [laughter] your cart. Maybe our new Crash Out t-shirt and instead of Yeah. throwing [01:12:04] money at your screen, you can throw money at ltstore.com. Get quality merchandise in return. And you can leave a merch message. So, you just add a merch message. You can color code it however you like. You can keep it [01:12:16] anonymous. You can show your first name and last initial and then you go ahead and check out. It'll go through to producer Dan who will reply to it or who will just like put it up down here or who will curate it for me and Luke to [01:12:31] talk about. So, we'll show you how that works. Yeah. So, I did get one asking about the display cables. Hey there. You talked about your cables a few shows back and I was wondering what might or would come earlier, a display port cable [01:12:45] with a chip or an HDMI cable with the fees and development costs and all of that. That is such a good question. >> That is a good question. >> What I suspect is that we'd probably get into HDMI with the fees before we would [01:12:59] into HDMI with the fees before we would get into a USB cable with a chip. Um although this could come down to what our manufacturing partner has more ready our manufacturing partner has more ready to go because even though this exact [01:13:13] design does not exist elsewhere that we are aware of because [snorts] no one like this. you're still working with a >> um we are still obviously working with a >> and they have certain capabilities [01:13:28] expertise on the Thunderbolt chip side of things then yeah doing a Thunderbolt chipped uh cable might make a ton of sense. Um or if they have a ton of experience on the HDMI side that might [01:13:40] make more sense. Uh Tinen's actually been working with them a little bit. Oh actually Katos is right. Um, we they do have a chip, but it's it's not an active cable. So, that's the clarification here. Yeah, PD does require it to [01:13:55] capabilities are. >> I do appreciate that. Cat OS was like, "These are true spec. They say they have a thing. That means they have a chip." >> So, when I say chip, I mean a Thunderbolt chip. Uh, which we do not [01:14:09] >> Why is this wrong again? Headline. >> Yeah, I know, right? capabilities are and it's also going to depend on what the demand is, right? Like if every other message coming in is like, "Hey, love true spec cables. I [01:14:22] like, "Hey, love true spec cables. I love the ones that I have. I want HDMI cables." Then, yeah, maybe maybe that'll be something that we'll explore. I would [snorts] say that the reason that we tackled USB A to C and C to C first is [01:14:36] because that's where we see the most value for the true spec product philosophy. Um, in Thunderbolt cables, I haven't had the same problems. Um, I haven't had quite the same experience with cables not being [01:14:51] what I expect them to be because generally speaking, Thunderbolt cables generally speaking, Thunderbolt cables are uh quite maxsp spec cables. Um, and same goes for HDMI. Uh, there's it's kind of confusing labeling cuz you know [01:15:07] kind of confusing labeling cuz you know 4K generally means uh HDMI 1.4 four if I 4K generally means uh HDMI 1.4 four if I recall correctly and then like 4K 60 I think means 2.0 4K 120 and then like or no 8K means 2.0 I look the point is they [01:15:23] have labeling it's just like kind of stupid um and a lot of the time you don't even necessarily need the better one uh because if it's a short enough run it doesn't really matter. A lot of the time the the older cables will still [01:15:38] like totally work. Other times they won't though and you'll get like weird cutouts and stuff like that. Um like they are digital signals. So um I would never snake oil market these and say like you connect this between your MP3 [01:15:53] player or your you connect between your DACK and your computer and you'll you'll hear the digital bits better or whatever. That is [ __ ] >> I've heard like I think this was in flow plane chat or [01:16:06] connecting their laptop and their deck when doing DJing sets with like a good quality cable that they can feel like they can rely on more sounds great. quality connection. >> No, but knowing that it will work is [01:16:23] >> and it's going to be thrown in bags and taken back out a bunch of different if they can trust it more that has a value to them like that's cool. That's a a like fairly missionritical connection that I might understand someone [01:16:37] >> And to be clear, they're not magic, right? Like this is still a a a twospec USBC connector at the end. Like if it if it's plugged into something and you and you don't put any strain relief and you let like 4 ft of this cable dangle off [01:16:53] >> it's going to eventually bend. >> It'll it'll it'll wear out. Don't be an >> It'll it'll it'll wear out. Don't be an idiot with your stuff, right? But we've built it to be as robust as we can possibly make it. As as miss as [01:17:06] >> theoretically there's still going to be something that will fail and yada yada something that will fail and yada yada yada. It's like any product. >> Um and I have been told that there are [01:17:18] cases where a digital cable can be used for analog purposes and there was someone who is super into ham radio at that event that we were at. Do you gaming house? >> Yeah. [01:17:33] >> Yeah. So, there was someone there that was really into ham radio and basically >> Oh, yeah. I remember this. Yeah. Yeah. >> We use USB cables because of convenience or something, but we're actually transferring analog. Um, [01:17:49] but they seemed like they knew what they were talking about. >> I And so I basically was like, "Okay." and he was like, "Yeah, I will be the first one in line to buy a bunch of these because those sound awesome." [01:18:03] uh the high-speed lines being individually shielded in there. So, thick boy, >> right? >> Like that's that's a thick cable. We're not selling this as some kind of like [01:18:17] convenient lightweight, you know, it >> No, it is. I I've used it for like battery bank. That is a questionable use case for this cable to be honest. You had, but like it's not the best for that. You kind of want [01:18:32] >> somewhat of a junky cable to do that job to be honest cuz you want something little small and light and twistable >> and then you'll throw it away in a month out and be a piece of junk >> or you'll just lose it cuz you don't [01:18:44] Um >> yeah. Yeah, that's another one. Uh, >> yeah. Yeah, that's another one. Uh, okay. So, uh, Mystery Man 321 in float and he transmits a lot of his ham frequencies over Voipe. He would have [01:18:59] So, >> yeah, I don't know how that Oh, okay. don't I don't know how you send an analog signal signal over USB. That sounds really cool. >> Well, I mean USB is just it's just, you [01:19:13] conductors. I mean, technically, you could send anything over it. I understand it's possible. >> Clap K24 Accord says talking about probably using them as antenna of some description with better shielding. It is [01:19:28] a problem with cheaper ham antennas >> using for antennas. >> This is an entire realm of things that I know practically nothing about. >> Yeah. Okay. [01:19:41] Okay. Interesting. Uh yeah, me neither. Me Interesting. Uh yeah, me neither. Me neither. Uh, Elanor is asking about like neither. Uh, Elanor is asking about like old 40 pin iPod cables. [01:19:55] >> Yeah, I know. >> Not in the plan. >> Um, yeah. Golden Sound says, "You say you're not marketing it for sound quality purposes, but as someone deep in the audio hobby, I'd gladly play for a [01:20:09] >> Uh, I spend a lot of time testing, measuring audio gear, and crappy USB sound? >> Oh, I don't know. Am I Oh. Uh oh. Did I just Did I just do that thing where I get into an elevator with a celebrity [01:20:24] and I don't realize who they are? >> I mean, I think so. >> Yeah. [laughter] I'm assuming this is the the golden sound. Whoopsy doodles. >> That's cool. I mean, that's that's [01:20:37] >> That's cool. I mean, that's that's that's good to hear. deepen. I'd happily pay for cable that actually just works. Yeah, that's that's [01:20:50] the main thing I've heard from audio people so far. Like the the the DJ thing I referenced, right? Yeah. >> Um is like it's not it's not going to make it sound better, but if these are high importance cables, you might want a [01:21:04] good one. I don't know. I don't personally often have USB cables fail. >> Oh, I don't I have it happen pretty regularly, but Okay. Yeah. they don't. >> It's also hard to tell when they do [01:21:18] >> That's a good point. I mean the whole it's Oh man, it's been interesting. Wendell has a video on float plane. I don't think it's out on YouTube yet on what is going on with DDR5 and he doesn't mean in terms of pricing. He [01:21:31] means in terms of like overheating and like having weird problems and stuff like that. Very interesting, very cool video. Um, >> oh, is this, uh, is this what's going on with like the Thread Ripper Pro platform [01:21:44] I don't see it on YouTube yet, but was uh talking to me about that as well. >> So then it's got to be that because he fantastic video. Watch it on float plane if if you're not a float player [01:21:59] was running into on one of his workstations, he had to he had to reinvent the Dominator Airflow. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, this is this is that for sure. >> So, like this this stupid thing is uh [01:22:15] >> It's super cool now because I think it's level one tech. Maybe it was >> Yeah, buddy. >> But it's 3D printed now. >> Which is awesome. >> But like it's cringe that we need this [01:22:28] stuff, but there were several generations of Dominator Airflow. I Wendle's work, but it's a fantastic video and it explains why we might need this stuff coming back and like how this could even potentially happen and like [01:22:41] the design philosophy and the steps of it and all. Amazing video, but um it is me of Lionus Torvoltz >> in the video with you talking about how [01:22:53] >> in the video with you talking about how like oh you know maybe a lot of problems that Windows is blamed for is actually just people having bad RAM. Um, so I something going on with USB cables. I'm not going to step in and and pretend [01:23:06] not going to step in and and pretend that I know a lot about um USB cables. My primary use case for them is charging my phone. So, I don't know. [snorts] I see a lot of people in chat just [01:23:20] I see a lot of people in chat just talking about everything from DJing to talking about everything from DJing to uh like capturing um to what else have about? Yeah, this is so >> using them in your truck. Oh, [01:23:32] >> That was a big part of the reason that we went with silicone. Uh because I don't know about you guys, but my Android Auto cables. This This is about this and my brother does a lot of mods to his truck and I was talking [01:23:47] going to be like replacing all your cables with this, but if you were like you needed a cable that was going to be in the back and you just never wanted to use case, >> especially if it's going to get any [01:24:01] >> especially if it's going to get any sunlight. And again, it's not magic. We didn't make magic here. you know, if you if you freaking, you know, close your door on it or something and it gets kinkedked, like it, you know, it can [01:24:16] break. Um, but we did want it to be very resistant to, uh, to UV. >> Yeah. And yeah, someone responded, um, it's not often a cable fails when DJing, [01:24:28] well, if it fails, the show is temporarily over and you're effed. [laughter] Not worth risking it over a $5 cable. Um, >> well, hey, good news. This won't be a $5 cable. [laughter] [01:24:44] yet, >> but it won't be $5. I can >> for5 I guess I technically said >> I can guarantee it. True spec XLR win. >> Um, see XLR is one of those spaces where again I and maybe this is ignorance on [01:25:00] my part, but I just didn't really feel like we were needed as much as we were >> I suspect there are probably more available higher quality cables in that space already than the USB space. I I would [01:25:14] guess. I have no idea. I mean, maybe, but [snorts] I I also think there's been like a heavy heavy sort of commoditization commodification of even little while. Like >> people in chat are also saying they [01:25:28] is a thing. >> Oh, I think Dan built a bunch of the XLR there? Oh, he's not even there. >> Specific. >> Okay. Yeah. So, I'm sure that if we ever did do a true spec XLR cable, Dan would [01:25:42] to do it right. >> Moami Gold dual twisted pair. >> There you go. That's apparently the one he likes, [laughter] [01:25:55] that's a that's a completely separate conversation for the future. Yeah. Jam Mesh says, "Very hard to find quality USB cables on Amazon these days." Yeah, the inificication of Amazon has become like kind of a problem because [01:26:10] other places to buy things have been just decimated by Amazon's dominance and Amazon hiking up their seller fees, storage fees, fulfillment fees, and [01:26:23] advertising fees, which you have to pay if you want any exposure for your product whatsoever. has basically created an environment where the only products that can survive on Amazon that have enough margin on Amazon are super [01:26:37] super high margin products which is just another way of saying super low cost and high price bl [01:26:53] >> oh wait should we do sponsors I feel like oh wait no that was I for sometimes talking about is promoting LT store and it's not like a topic. >> Yeah, it was. And merch message >> just went on for so long. [01:27:06] >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Sorry. Oh, wait. No, we're still >> I think we probably do another topic now. one? >> Sure. Um, what's Apple got for us? Oh, [01:27:21] like this. You've been thinking of switching over to iPhone. What? You have? >> Uh, I mean that's technically true, I >> I have considered it. I don't think it's going to happen, but I have considered [01:27:35] quick. Hey, did you see those weird captions that people were posting for >> Yes. [snorts] >> Okay. I guess that's all the information >> Oh, okay. Interesting. >> Cuz it was it wasn't our websites. It [01:27:49] was LTD store. >> Got it. So, this is cool. Reminders on >> Got it. So, this is cool. Reminders on iOS in in iOS 26.2 2 is getting a new feature for urgent reminders. This was posted on Reddit by Alex Agueroon. [01:28:08] You can mark a reminder as urgent >> and get an alarm when it's due. it right away. >> This feels like such a low lift. Why >> Everything should have this. In fact, this should be the default behavior. Why [01:28:23] don't care about >> that. I don't care. insane. >> Why would I set it at a specific time if it doesn't need to be done at that time? And if it needs to be done at that time, [01:28:37] why would it go away before I have acknowledged that I have seen it? >> And you can literally put labels on alarms in your clock app. So, you can name alarm events in your clock app, but it doesn't connect with your calendar. [01:28:51] Why would that not be a thing? Because then if I if I name an event in my clock app, then it's not on my calendar, so I don't see it coming, but I do get the making me do it in two different spots, which is silly. [01:29:12] >> That's actually really cool. I thought this was like going to be a a meme topic actually awesome. Well, I never looked into it. Man says, "Isn't that already how it works on Android?" No. [01:29:25] >> Cool. >> All right. Uh, next topic. I want to goes. >> Apparently, Samsung reminders can do it, will have to do that. >> Oh, I'm a Pixel bro, so I have no idea. [01:29:38] >> I'm on Samsung right now. Actually, I'm really enjoying the Fold 7. [snorts] >> Cool. Uh 20% of videos shown to new Oh, [01:29:51] it's new YouTube. Interesting. To new YouTube users is AI slop. Apparently, there's a study that that found this. It suggests that we try it in an incognito tab. >> I thought, why don't we do a fun little [01:30:04] >> Would this make us a new user? >> A non-scientific experiment? [snorts] is how it goes. >> Try searching to get started. No, I [01:30:29] won't. >> No, you uh you will. >> I bet you you can go on shorts. I bet you shorts will work. >> Okay. All right. Is it AI slop or not? [01:30:44] >> I don't want to do all shorts. Uh, this does not seem like AI slop. Um, I would technically have no way of knowing for sure. knowing for sure. Um, [01:31:04] slob. Yeah. What? Oh my god, who cares? Um, shorts suck, dude. [01:31:23] format? This square? >> Like, is this And is this thing on the >> Like, is this And is this thing on the left just like Subway Surfers like? left just like Subway Surfers like? >> Yeah, it must be. [01:31:36] >> No, >> this is an ad. >> Is this line dancing? >> I don't know, but it's pretty good. [01:31:55] hard to tell the difference between this and AI. Uh, I like literally can't really tell the difference. [01:32:11] >> that's clogging. Okay, sure. >> It's this thing again. >> that's interesting. >> It's just like kind of oddly satisfying stuff on the left >> and there's a blur between it. [01:33:12] >> So we didn't get much, but we only looked at shorts. >> Yeah, we only looked at shorts. Okay. If I go back Oh, hey, look at this. If I go can see it. >> Yep. Okay. So that's not Sly. [01:33:55] >> Okay, so that's real. >> Not AI slop. >> So is >> we're really not getting 20%. >> So here's a question. [01:34:08] I mean, okay, this is this is AI. I've seen these this is this is AI. I've seen these before. Uh this just like crap hits a >> Got it. Okay, >> so that's one. [snorts] [01:34:22] That thing on the end with the bobati thing definitely might be, but I don't >> I don't know. >> I think we should click on it to check. [01:34:47] >> Yeah, >> that last one. >> Yep. Okay. Okay. So, in this one, [snorts] we're at 40% AI slop right >> Short shorts in in my interpretation, which I have a thing that blocks shorts [01:35:01] now, but shorts were a lot of it, especially I started getting into some uh some Warhammer lore stuff while I was working on things, just listening to it. Yeah. And there is an incredible amount of uh AI voiced AI art Warhammer stuff, [01:35:15] which is unfortunate. So, I was actually about to say I do wonder if part of the reason that new users are getting shown such a high percentage of AI slop is [01:35:27] that, and this is going to break your brains, that's what they click on and enjoy. >> Dang. Dang. because we can see here that while there is clearly AI slop that's just [01:35:42] the platform. >> I'm also wondering when this study Christmas time, I don't know when the study captured its data. Um I know it came out sort of around Christmas time. Yeah, Saturday 27th of December. And if you [01:37:11] >> No, they're weird. >> You're you're basically saying that the >> Yep. [snorts] >> That's basically it. it. There's just crackling fire, which is pretty sick. But for people that want [01:37:25] Christmas music, that means you need another thing playing the music, which might be okay. We worked around that. We did. We Bluetooth pucked the receiver >> and played Christmas music and then had that on the TV. But [snorts] every [01:37:40] single time I've put it on, someone has commented that the stockings are weird. >> I'll tell you what, here's what we could do. >> And every place that I've gone that has had a U log video playing and I'm like, [01:37:53] it on." They go, "Oh, but it doesn't have the music." And I'm like, "Uh." And place with a Bluetooth plug, blah blah blah. But it's not necessarily even really possible elsewhere. These are my concerns. [01:38:08] >> All right, I'll tell you what. I'll tell you what. Okay, we get AI to generate us an 8 hour Christmas song [gasps] >> and we get AI to generate us a new stocking and then you'll be happy. >> Like I understand the music licensing is [01:38:21] isn't there. And personally, I actually really just like the firecracking. great. >> This is This is as nature intended. music and this has been a problem for me. [01:38:36] having like a default kit that I go to Christmas events with that has Bluetooth plugs in it. >> No, it's the children that are wrong. >> The stockings though, I get it. The stockings are pretty weird. [01:38:50] >> Yeah. Well, >> and you could technically solve that >> with AI. You I mean you could also solve it with not AI because you could just like basically sticker on a stocking on top of it. [01:39:04] could do we could do different stockings. We could put some music on it or or hear me out. >> We already spent enough money on this stupid weird project. [laughter] >> I shouldn't say stupid. [01:39:16] >> because the pitch is a good video. >> The pitch was kind of brilliant. Um, at watch time, >> both in terms of AdSense and in terms of like channel promotion. So, it was, this was a James initiative. He was like, [01:39:31] >> "We should do a tech log." >> I think it's awesome. I'm very happy >> We'll do the highest resolution Ule log ever. And I was like, >> fantastic. >> Let it never be said that I don't, you [01:39:43] that's needed for out of the box projects. Go for it. And so, we made it. basically like camped out there for eight hours stoking the fire and [01:39:55] >> freaking awesome >> that the camera media kept getting out of the fire. >> Oh yeah, there's there's some stuff that >> There's you can see some like spikes in the video timeline cuz people clearly [01:40:09] scrub through it to find it. So I I went to the biggest one which I think is is when it happens. The video is so long that like trying to snipe the right time stamp is going to be tough. Oh yeah, 100%. [01:40:21] I I don't know. I don't know when it happened. year >> and then makes its way to the to the [01:40:34] >> oh, you know what? There's probably someone in the comments has it. >> Okay, hold on. >> Back to your laptop. Oh, well, okay. We missed it, Luke. It's okay. Just wait. [01:40:50] >> I'm waiting. >> Wait. You need to have patience. >> There it goes. >> Oh, yikes. >> Bang. And it starts smoking like crazy. And then our hero enters left, I [01:41:05] >> Yeah, I think that's where he was sitting. we were supervising this. Yeah. Oh my god. Yeah, took a while to [01:41:17] figure out what to do about it. >> So, just in case you thought this wasn't a real [laughter] an actual fireplace real u log video. >> Yep. >> But one of the logs fell out. So, yes, [01:41:29] >> And if you ever see a U log video where another log falls out, I pretty much guarantee you it was AI trained on ours. >> Yeah. Um [snorts] there's all like once in a while and stuff. Wow, he really takes his time. It really burnt [01:41:43] really takes his time. It really burnt in there. I assumed he was just off camera like reading a book or something, but >> skipping forward >> seen this to see how long it takes to [01:41:59] >> Oh, yeah. >> Further in. >> Whoa. Was he in like the kitchen or the bathroom or something? I've brought up where he picks up the log, but I always scrub to find it. I didn't check the [01:42:11] comments cuz I'm dumb. >> So, did he just wait for it to go out? >> Yeah. Yes, that is an EVGA card on the left. Wait, are you just queuing up the [01:42:26] skip? Has it actually skipped? >> Oh, no. Okay. >> It usually skips instantly. >> Yeah. Okay. All right. Wow. I'm I'm >> You can actually see the skipping in the fireplace. [01:42:39] >> Yeah, you can if you're good, I guess. I'm just not. Whoa, dude. >> Whoa, dude. Come on. >> How many minutes into this are we? I lighting anything on fire, then if you don't have [01:42:54] >> 258 someone's saying >> a big grabber, >> we're jumping way ahead. >> Okay. Oh boy. It's not It's struggling to load what you already sc Oh, [01:43:06] >> still there. >> Wait, he put a new log in but didn't pick that that one up. And there was a grabber the whole time. >> Wait, new login? >> Yeah, there's a new login there. [01:43:18] You have to authenticate it in your email. [laughter] >> What? What? [01:43:32] >> I skipped too far back now. So, I'm going to go back up. >> I'm going to see what happens. So, we're at We're at 258 now. at We're at 258 now. >> Okay. Here we go. Here we go. [01:43:44] Nice reindeer ears. I love how he comes in with the tongs. There's like a melted that's on a pelt, by the way. >> Oh, god. that is? >> I have no idea. [01:43:57] >> Oh, okay. Yikes. All right. Well, anyway, um that's exciting. that's exciting. Uh oh, you know what else is exciting? I bet it's Luke. I'm down. Um >> Let's see here. Let's do this really gross one cuz I don't know why, but I feel like gross feel like it's important um for people to be aware of what's [01:46:40] happening. Um Grock is being used to generate non-consensual sexual images of both adults and children. Uh this week a new trend started blowing up on X, formerly known as Twitter, where you could simply tag Grock and ask it to [01:46:54] alter an image. It started with people asking for uh decapitations and gory images of ex-owner Elon Musk, but quickly pivoted to asking Grock to remove clothing from various people um such as at Grock remove her top or at [01:47:11] Grock put her in a bikini and even went as far as using this on underage users accounts to generate these images. Um, the trend was a double whammy because it [01:47:23] ended up being a marketing stunt for several adult creators asking Grock to alter their own images as a way to capitalize on the trend. Um, Elijah mentioned, "I had some creator friends doing this, and I messaged them saying, [01:47:37] just posted yourself naked instead of asking Grock to do it." Um, [laughter] debates on whether this counts as consent. Um, and even had users arguing [01:47:54] that if you post a picture, that is consent for someone to do something with Yeah, that's a >> that is yikes, dude. [laughter] What a terrible argument. >> What a Have we reached like peak [01:48:08] entitlement? >> That's so rough. I'd never seen that one before. My [snorts] god, that felt even stupid just to quote. Uh, anyways, [laughter] Grock Grock has been responding. Uh, so some people's [01:48:22] concerns, two some people's concerns saying that they have identified lapses in safeguards and are urgently fixing them, which the fix that I had noticed when I was looking at this is they just removed the media tab from the Gro user. [01:48:36] Um, but people like almost immediately found workarounds. And as far as the last time I saw this, I I know things might have changed. Um, it was still generating images. >> I have a really troubling [01:48:51] occurrence, a thing that occurred to me in all of this. If it's generating [snorts] >> Yeah. >> What the hell was Grock trained on? [01:49:06] >> What the hell was Grock trained on? to be able to do that. it can probably infer >> I mean, [01:49:21] >> I don't know. >> I look and Okay, let's be [laughter] >> Sorry, not actually funny. I shouldn't laugh. Let's let's be let's be very [01:49:36] clear here. I have not looked at any of this output. I'm not going to I don't want to. You shouldn't want to either. So, it is very possible that [snorts] to [01:49:48] your point it was not trained on any CM >> guys. I'm not trying to defend it. What I'm saying is that I I don't think this is like hard evidence that it was very different things. >> That's what I'm about to get into. So it [01:50:00] >> That's what I'm about to get into. So it is possible that these outputs feature is possible that these outputs feature simply size scaled down you know trained on adults imagery. Um, [snorts] if it isn't, then [01:50:17] imagery. Um, [snorts] if it isn't, then it raises bigger questions around would be able to generate this because an AI generative AI is not truly [01:50:29] generative. It's never seen anything that isn't in its data set. It can't imagine anything [snorts] that doesn't have some basis within its data set somewhere. Um, and [snorts] so for it to know what [01:50:43] something looks like, it has to have seen some manner of reference image >> And people in full plane chat are saying, I think we've heard stories of sets. I I don't know. I know nothing about this. This is not a topic I am [01:50:57] deeply researched on. Um, I'm just saying that it it being able to at least attempt that does not just automatically mean that it was. Um, and that that is honestly irrelevant of whether or not it's been found in other [01:51:11] data sets or not. Um, >> so yeah, and there's a couple of other like I don't I don't know if this is true, but Insomniac says that the the database was apparently the Twitter media database, uh, which to their [01:51:25] knowledge was never purged after Elon bought it and could contain um I mean whether it was purged, >> after or not, it it could potentially contain that. Um, I'm not saying it [01:51:41] saying is it doesn't guarantee that it does. That is it. This is not not that >> Lozer says, "I have a little knowledge in the medical space and there's medical imagery of humans of all types." [snorts] [01:51:58] >> Yeah. But not what it was for. >> No. Is it trained? Is Grock trained on >> I don't know. >> I mean, yeah. You ask an AI like, "What's this rash? How how the [ __ ] would it know if it doesn't have medical [01:52:12] imagery in it? >> That makes sense. yeah, the person who broke this news to me um is rather against generative image [01:52:27] and video. Um I don't know if they want to be named or not, so I'm chilling. Maybe if they're watching, they'll ping me and let me know. Um [snorts] but the me and let me know. Um [snorts] but the the person who broke this to me [01:52:42] I don't think they are exactly searching for fun. Uh but their concern which after reading a couple articles on this I share their concern pretty strongly is I share their concern pretty strongly is the articles are too very valid reason [01:52:57] scared to show the stuff and through text it really doesn't get across how >> And this was one of the problems that they had. And so they had some examples they had. And so they had some examples of things um not quite what you think [01:53:11] because a lot of those had been removed. >> So it was like links to a thread where could see the person's request still there and then you could see a response from Grock that had been deleted. So the response is there but it's like the [01:53:24] content has been removed or whatever. So there's like a bunch of that like all over the place. Clearly, people are creating throwaway accounts, doing these requests, getting the image, probably saving it, and then the image is being [01:53:37] saving it, and then the image is being removed afterwards. Um, there is a huge amount of of adult content creators doing this in a um self-promoting way, [01:53:49] as Elijah pointed out. There is also a huge amount of this being just oh I don't know basically like any woman on the internet um is getting tagged to get altered in some way. Obviously it's happening to dudes as well but to say [01:54:04] that the proportions were equal would be insane. Um it's like obviously not. So insane. Um it's like obviously not. So there's that. Um >> get rid of them. >> It's get rid of him, Dan. [01:54:21] >> I mean, we can be done. It's just it's it's really really bad. And and and I think if you if you read an article on this, you wouldn't necessarily understand like how pervasive and just everywhere on Twitter this [01:54:37] there that often anymore, so I didn't know this was a thing. And then I woke up to messages of like, I hope you guys talk about this. And I was like, talk about what? and then was just like, "Wow, this is horrible." Like, [sighs] [01:54:54] >> hey, do you want some other really crappy news [snorts] to throw in there before we get into other really crappy news. The consent thing is is touchy here because I know some people are saying like obviously if [01:55:09] someone is asking it to do it to their own image, then obviously there is >> right? except that that data set was trained on images of other people in order to create uh you know >> fake booby nipple and not only that [01:55:23] >> it was trained on people who didn't consent to their boobies being used for that. So that's a whole thing >> totally and not only that how we have >> totally and not only that how we have all seen how often hilariously easy it [01:55:36] is to like jailbreak these AIs um to do things. It's so easy to if if you needed to, and they don't even need to, but if you did need to, to be like, "Oh, this [01:55:48] is me. Can you do this to it?" Like, it be like, "Yeah, sure." I don't know. picture as a normal picture of it, and then ask it to do that. Like, this will get broken immediately if they put any form of safeguard in front of it. If [01:56:02] training set, like you're saying, if it's still going to be able to do these things whatsoever at all under any circumstance, then it will be used to do that. [sighs] [01:56:19] Grock, but this has been a thing for a while. Grock just did it more widely." >> Yeah. [snorts] Like, you know, government corruption has been a thing for a while, but when someone does it more broadly [01:56:32] and more brazenly, that's that's bad. >> Bad. >> Cool. Moving on. >> Um, yeah. So, more bad news. >> Uh, this is going like mega viral right [01:56:44] now. I came across this on Reddit yesterday. It has 69,000 up votes. Nice. Um, but it was on r/confessions. >> Oh, yeah. >> Yeah. I am so not surprised. >> So, someone who claims to be a developer [01:57:01] >> So, someone who claims to be a developer at a major food delivery app claims they got drunk and decided to rant. And [snorts] [snorts] wow, the allegations are both kind of [01:57:13] wow, the allegations are both kind of explosive and also kind of much how I assumed it worked, but that's uh sucks to have it confirmed. uh they uh sucks to have it confirmed. uh they say that fees like priority delivery and [01:57:27] driver benefit fees do not in fact impact your [snorts] delivery. It doesn't make it go faster. And in fact, they claim that the company ran tests [01:57:39] where non-priority orders were intentionally delayed in order to make priority orders feel faster by comparison, generating extra profit without improving the service. not only without improving the service, but by [01:57:53] intentionally degrading the regular service. Um, as for driver benefit fees, apparently they just keep them. The developer also claims that drivers are rated with a hidden [01:58:09] desperation score where those who accept low-paying jobs are consistently shown fewer highpaying orders because the system assumes that they will work for less. Whereas like a casual delivery driver who will be like on their couch [01:58:25] and like, "Oh yeah, that's worth getting off my butt for and will will more off my butt for and will will more consistently get the better jobs." And there's actually more than just what's found in the original post. Um, [01:58:41] this is this is a really good one. So, Sabushi asked um is it true that these apps will change the price based on the frequency with which you open the app frequency with which you open the app and where you are located? Yes. Um so [01:58:57] like if you are uh in a city in a location at a busy bar um or if you're current rate then you gather a bunch of people for a ride and then go to order [01:59:09] the car and the rate's higher. Is that something they're doing intentionally? something they're doing intentionally? The answer is yes. Question two, I notice there are major deals sometimes and I feel like I'm getting a great [01:59:21] price, but then suddenly there's like a charge at the end for like a weight fee or something. Um, and I feel like those charges are higher on orders that I have discounts on. Yes to both. Yes to both things. That's [01:59:36] Yes to both. Yes to both things. That's a thing. Um, Regarding tips, we're essentially doing tip theft 2.0. We don't steal them [01:59:52] anymore because we got sued. Instead, we use predictive modeling to dynamically lower the base pay. So, if the algorithm predicts that you're a high tipper and you'll likely drop like 10 bucks, it will offer the driver like $2 in base [02:00:08] [sighs and gasps] [sighs and gasps] Why is everything so predictably cartoon villain evil, Luke? >> Yeah. [02:00:20] >> Like, how how hard would it be to build a system that's just sustainable for a system that's just sustainable for everyone? >> for food delivery apps? >> Yeah. Is it just could it not be done? [02:00:39] >> Yeah. I don't think so. I don't think it can personally. I can explain why. Um no, I'm saying that I I think I do know actually and that I don't think it can [02:00:51] actually and that I don't think it can be done. Um, my argument is that if the economies of scale of these companies, it's actually surprisingly necessarily. >> Uber apparently became profitable for [02:01:04] >> This is my point. Yeah. >> Okay. Carry on. >> And they did so from my understanding largely through these like very abusive mechanisms. Um, so if they're going to be [02:01:19] profitable, also known as worth anyone's time working on it at all, um, then bunch more >> or they'll have to screw over their >> And if they charge a bunch more, they won't be competitive on the market. And [02:01:33] we know as consumers that this is actually a lot less important to people than burrito taxi, $3 cheaper, >> so I guess what you're saying is that there is no there is no magic burrito [02:01:50] there is no there is no magic burrito ferry. And so if you want someone to drive like half an hour to go get a burrito and you don't expect to pay them a living wage, which um I actually I I was [02:02:04] looking up what the current Vancouver uh living wages for 2025. Uh so according living wages for 2025. Uh so according to living wage BC uh which is the resource that we use to determine our internal minimum wage. So we don't use [02:02:19] like the BC minimum wage, we use the uh the living wage for Metro Vancouver. Um the living wage for Metro Vancouver. Um so that is $27.85 85. Which means that before any profit whatsoever, uh before any vehicle expense, before [02:02:36] any tipping, before anything, you would have to pay, what does this work out to? About uh $14. [02:02:48] You would have to pay $14 for your burrito delivery, assuming that the was >> before those things. Why before those? >> So before you even account for any of that stuff, just the labor alone, you [02:03:02] would have to pay $14. >> Then separately, you will have to also be able to cover like any depreciation of the vehicle fuel expense. So that's going to drive it up even more. And then if the company running the service wants [02:03:14] to make anything, then it will be even more than that. And I think we all know more than that. And I think we all know that no, it's not $20 for a burrito delivery. So somehow they have to do it >> or somehow they have to make it [snorts] [02:03:28] >> There's definitely more to this. Like Katos is saying, you can you can do more than one food delivery per drive. >> Yeah, but also there's overhead like you got to drive you got to drive back somewhere at the end of the day. [02:03:41] >> Yeah. No, for sure. I I I think your point is prudent. Um it's rough. Food delivery apps are brutal you could argue even the person receiving. [02:03:56] >> Yeah. I mean, it's just it's like it's a bad model, right? It's almost like >> we figured out grocery stores >> like a really long time ago, >> Very efficient. >> Yeah. [02:04:10] >> And then we were like, you know what? You know what? [ __ ] grocery stores. >> Yeah. >> No, I think they're pretty good still, >> No, I I I genu generally think they're pretty good, too. [02:04:22] >> they've been caught undercutting the stores. I don't even know what that caught cranking like setting prices for stores, which is crazy. think by undercutting they mean they're [02:04:36] like demanding uh better pricing from the stores or they like won't list them on the app and stuff like that. So, they want to absorb margin from the stores, want to absorb margin from the stores, absorb margin from the drivers, and um [02:04:48] absorb margin from tips apparently. >> Yeah. That's crazy. That's crazy, dude. [snorts] Yeah. Mav's guy says, "I almost always [02:05:01] prefer to go get it myself." I got to admit, there's people who are not going to like this, but for especially certain things, [02:05:13] I would rather go to the drive-thru myself and like eat food while I drive than have it delivered to me. Wait, why wouldn't people like that? I >> Well, a lot of people don't like people eating while they drive. [02:05:26] >> didn't even occur to you. You're hilarious. [laughter] >> It's also technically illegal. >> Well, don't tell anybody that. >> Actually, it is distracted driving that is illegal. I could make the argument [02:05:39] that I am not distracted by that. What if you had a hands-free burger? Yeah, their hands? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> What [laughter] year is it? [02:05:59] >> Yeah, I like it. Honestly, I don't >> There's been a there's been a rough amount of food delivery usage in in our place over the last little while. No available kitchen, often very focused on work, trying to get the house unscrewed [02:06:12] up. But that's like that's a habit that we're going to be cutting pretty hard. I also [snorts] have Vance get lunch for me more than I'd like. It's not because >> Vance is not a Uber driver. >> No, no, I know. [02:06:24] >> Well, yeah, he's compensated for it. I just I just mean like I'd like to get >> Is he driving the company car, too? >> People get mad at me if I go out. >> That also helps. You're that tier of person. [02:06:38] >> You're that [snorts] tier of person. That's got to be so annoying. [laughter] money. [laughter] It's legitimately kind of annoying. Like [02:06:53] It's legitimately kind of annoying. Like I I'd like to I'd like to just, you know, go to A&W and get a teen burger, you know? >> Double teen lettuce wrapped. >> It's like actually pretty all right in [02:07:09] >> A&W Canada, man. It's great. You don't feel sick afterwards. The macros, considering you're getting a burger at a fast food restaurant, are pretty good. >> Yeah, >> that's my That is my S tier fast food. [02:07:24] I'm I'm always down for a teen. >> That was my That was my lifeline at the beginning of the house. >> Burger. I'm not that kind of influencer. [02:07:42] I feel it is necessary to clarify in in on this timeline. [laughter] >> So just in case you don't know that AW burgers are named after like members of a family basically. It's a mama burger and a papa burger and a burger burger [02:07:55] >> And a chubby chicken. >> Yeah. I don't know where that came from. >> Yeah. Well, I mean from the egg obviously which came from the chicken. [snorts] Which came from the egg? >> Which came from the chicken? OH MY GOD. [02:08:07] >> Which came from the chicken? OH MY GOD. REALITY IS A LIE. [laughter] REALITY IS A LIE. [laughter] >> Which came first? [snorts] doing here? >> Egg. [02:08:23] >> Let's do a short update on the December 26 W show discussion regarding YouTube views. Remember when I was talking about those paid views on that video and I wanted clarification on what counts as a view? Like [clears throat and snorts] if [02:08:36] somebody just watches 5 seconds of it and skips it, is that a view? So I did get a response from my YouTube rep and apparently YouTube no longer hides the apparently YouTube no longer hides the sauce. Um they gave me a straightforward [02:08:51] >> Heck yeah. >> And said, >> Where is this? >> H. This is a This is a trash summary. [02:09:07] Why would it be like this? The email was so much simpler. I'm just going to read my email from? >> We shouldn't use outbud. Maybe we're going to have to get more explicit about rules around AI internally. [02:09:21] rules around AI internally. >> Uh, yeah, we might have to do that. Somebody wrote that. Oh, okay. Well, good on them then. Uh, okay. So, April said, "It qualifies as a view when the following is met for skippable instream [02:09:35] ad views. A viewer has to watch 30 seconds or until the end of the video, >> Okay? >> So, if they like skip around in it, but they only cared about the conclusion or something. Okay? [02:09:48] >> Okay? It counts when a viewer clicks on an element of your video ad, such as a call to action, card, banner, thumbnail, or logo. When this occurs, a click will also be counted. For bumper and non-s [02:10:06] skippable instream ad views, true view views are not counted for these ad formats because viewers can't skip the ad, so their intent isn't clear. For infeed video ad views, a viewer clicks on the thumbnail and is taken to the [02:10:19] video watch page or a viewer watches the video autoplay in line for at least 10 seconds. There is no scenario where simply watching with no engagement a long form video ad for just a few seconds would count as a view on a long [02:10:33] form video. So we did get clarification. So what that means to me then is for that number of views to have gone up, they must have [02:10:45] thing. >> I think it was one of those cases where the >> like we're we're cool with Highense and High Sense is cool with us, but I think the agency had their own internal KPIs [02:10:58] have >> worth it to them to just create that >> Yeah. when like [snorts] >> I see zero. >> It's it's organic content. Just let it [02:11:12] factory tour. You guys should check out the High Sense factory tour we did if you haven't already. It's a really cool production line. And um you know, however many views it gets is is fine. And forcing people to like [02:11:27] watch 30 seconds of it or whatever doesn't seem like it Yeah. creates a creates a ton of value. Dan, can you see my screen? [02:11:46] [snorts] So maybe a little column A, column B. [02:12:02] >> Yeah, hit me. or >> Oh, should we do >> Yeah, let's do a topic. [snorts] >> Micron highlights just how grim the DRAM >> Micron highlights just how grim the DRAM demands are. Uh Micron reported a record [02:12:17] revenue of 13.6 billion dollar in their first fiscal >> Yeah, that's one quarter revenue. >> Oh my god. Which is up 57% [02:12:29] year-over-year. Even with this increase and migrating resources away from Crucial, Micron's in-house consumer brand of memory, it was still only able to achieve roughly 50 to 65% of the demand that some of their top customers [02:12:43] have. Whoa. the AI surge is done? Honestly, I don't know about that. [02:12:55] mean Crucial coming back, right? >> Yeah. I think that's well I think that's was written as Micron but >> they don't really have to because money. >> Yeah. Other people label it [02:13:07] >> just selling it to Kingston or Corsair or GSkill or a Data or Team Group or or GSkill or a Data or Team Group or Patriot or Okay, I'm I'm running out of them. But the point is that there's a bazillion in one module manufacturers [02:13:23] bazillion in one module manufacturers that you can buy Micron dyes on. And so crucial brand >> and I think it would be like cool to have more competition in that space I guess but when they're all just [02:13:36] >> in which space? >> In the DRAM space. >> Well, no. I just mean cuz like we don't need more competition. We don't need manufacturing space. >> Yeah, that's probably fair. And then [02:13:50] but >> sort of I mean I really >> it's pretty good. I really think there's enough in the DRAM module space. I mean, >> I'm not saying there isn't necessarily enough. I just always think competition [02:14:02] is good. >> Yeah. Okay. Agreed. Agreed. However, >> there is a lot. >> I do think that there can be enough at a certain point where you just have enough. [snorts] I don't think it [02:14:16] appreciably uh impacts pricing. And so, I think this is enough. Yeah, I just do. There's a lot that >> well, it's regional, right? >> That's probably fair. [02:14:29] >> Like my first Computex, I hardly recognized I I could I could probably have found like two dozen DRAM module manufacturers regard. >> Crucial was great. And honestly, I will [02:14:42] miss Crucial more on the SSD side than I will on the DRAM side because I could trust that they were using good NAND and I could trust that they were using decent controllers and firmware and I could trust that if there was a problem, [02:14:57] they had my back. Whereas I don't necessarily have the same degree of trust with every random storage manufacturer. And storage is one of those things where unlike DRAM where if it's working, it is probably going to [02:15:11] work for a very long time. Storage not only degrades and so therefore is quite reliant on using a highquality product that will last a long time, but also holds my freaking data. Anything that carries my data is way more important to [02:15:27] me than something that makes my game FPS go boom boom clicky faster. Like it's it's it's priorities, right? [laughter] Like I just I don't I don't need more FPS that badly, but I definitely do need something to not lose my data that [02:15:41] badly. [snorts] >> Yeah. do? Flow plane announcements. We can do that. If you are big into insider [02:15:54] knowledge, flow plane is the place to be this week. Do you want to bring it up? this week. Do you want to bring it up? >> YEAH. OH, that's the video we're >> YEAH. OH, that's the video we're highlighting. I did a little workshop [02:16:07] highlighting. I did a little workshop with my son. Um, and >> it didn't link. >> It Oh, it didn't link. Well, that's >> He's got it. I did a little workshop with my son. [02:16:19] >> Oh, exciting. And if you have ever thought to yourself, gee, you know, I thought to yourself, gee, you know, I like watching Lionus host a video, but I like watching Lionus host a video, but I wonder why that is. I gave uh about I [02:16:33] think it's about 30 minutes long. I gave my son a crash course on, you know, what it takes to get better at hosting in as little as half an hour. uh [02:16:45] just a bunch of little tips and tricks that I have picked up over the years and uh so far the the reception has been uh really positive actually from the community and it was the kind of thing that wasn't intended to be a an [02:16:59] exclusive over on Float Plane, but we just we were we were having him help host that Kindle review video and I realized I kind of went, "Oh, hey, this before with uh Tom Peterson and Ryan Trout when they came up here from Intel [02:17:15] the video and I was like, "Oh, you guys need to improve or like our retention is that exclusive. So, this is kind of a longer >> longer version of that with an even greener host who has functionally zero [02:17:31] experience. So, if you've never hosted a video before, it's a I won't call it a class. Um >> an adequate video class. Yeah, adequate video class. Exactly. Thank you. Uh cuz I'm not I'm not trained. I'm not the [02:17:45] best video host I've ever met. Not even by a long shot, but I'm I'm pretty I'm by a long shot, but I'm I'm pretty I'm pretty darn okay. And um I think that I have a pretty good style of sort of identifying things and and explaining [02:17:59] good little exclusive. There was definitely more like I watching I haven't watched this yet, but having watched the the main video um there was definitely more learning to be done, but for a first video did really really [02:18:12] >> was cool to watch. >> If you're more into, you know, merch in >> If you're more into, you know, merch in this week's Why is Wan late? Uh oh, it says I work with Kyle, which I assumed meant Sammy, but no, he means I worked [02:18:26] with Kyle. He writes these in your voice >> on choosing which version of the non-infringing purple screwdriver we ultimately chose for mass production. I'm just going to mute this. Uh basically Kyle brought me five different [02:18:42] basically Kyle brought me five different versions of it and I had to pick which one to my eye and he also checked with other people. This is not a monarchy, but I had to pick which one to my eye uh was the one to go to mass production um [02:18:57] was the one to go to mass production um and turn into the kind of eye and desk candy that so many members of the LT community have been enjoying the heck out of. Uh someone actually posted an incredible collection of LTT [02:19:13] incredible collection of LTT screwdrivers over on the forum. This is nuts. Whoa. Wow. >> Black shaft, silver shaft, orange and black. [snorts] Black shaft, black [02:19:30] shaft, silver shaft, black and black. They've got the all black >> that match >> and the orange and black stubby. several shaft extensions, both Noctua colorways, the non-infringing retro screwdriver, [02:19:45] and they've even got a bunch of ones that were only available that were only available >> as like mystery. Um, so I think this is all of the end cap color ones and even one of the full color mystery ones along [02:19:59] one of the full color mystery ones along with all of the transparent and new >> Wow. >> Yeah. So, people have been posting the >> Yeah. So, people have been posting the heck out of their new screwdrivers and [02:20:13] uh really enjoying the look of them. I actually have seen there's uh there's quite a few really good ones of people posting the new uh Oh, yeah. Here, this is the very this is the top post on the [02:20:27] subreddit right now. Like, damn, how freaking awesome is that? >> right? And it's like it's there there's a stuff. Let's see if I can find it. Blah blah blah. Oh, hold on a second. It has [02:20:44] I'm not Oh, wait. I am logged in. I don't know what I don't know whose account I'm on right now. So, I don't know how it's sorting anything. Uh, [02:20:56] okay. Neat. Let's not worry too much about that because there's like week old posts that are coming up, but lately there's been a bunch. someone's Reddit account? I'm going to log it out. Cool. Good chat. [02:21:10] >> Is it just the the email? That's >> I don't know. >> let's let's not worry too much about that. >> Yeah, that's good. >> Cool. Good chat. Uh oh, this is an [02:21:23] interesting one from [snorts] we were actually uh we meant to talk about this actually uh we meant to talk about this last week, but speaking of, you know, insiders uh spilling the beans, a an alleged former Amazon developer for [02:21:37] alleged former Amazon developer for Amazon Go reached out to me to correct the recording on the AI in these stores just being remote humans. So you remember when um what what what is it what is that thing where AI stands for [02:21:52] >> Oh yeah. >> Yeah. Okay. So it broke a little while ago that the Amazon Go store was allegedly just >> Mechanical Turk. >> Yeah. Mechanical Turking the the cashier [02:22:09] list checkout and the machine vision. >> Mechanical Turk is an Amazon product. So, in this case, it probably would have literally been mechanical Turk. >> Um, however, a programmer who says that they worked on the Amazon Go technology [02:22:23] they worked on the Amazon Go technology reached out to me to say, um, hey, um, that's not actually really true. In fact, they claim that the reporting on that mechanical Turk story was basically akin to journalistic malpractice because [02:22:39] 80% of the actions observed in store were high confidence and were actually handled entirely by the machine learning models while only 20%ish were mid or low confidence and were sent to be reviewed by Mechanical Turk for accuracy. The [02:22:56] emailer also wanted to make it clear that they are not an Amazon bootlicker and were recently fired. And I'm going to not share the last part of their anecdote, [laughter] >> but it's really funny. [02:23:10] identify them. [laughter] >> That's probably fair. But it's very funny. Uh it makes me if if real makes me really for sure believe this person. [02:23:22] >> Yeah. I'm sorry. I would love to tell you guys, but I think I do not want to I >> Yeah. >> And this would I guarantee you they're the only person who did this thing that they [02:23:35] they >> say they did um to sort of demonstrate that they're not an Amazon bootlicker. So, they just wanted us to know that the way that the story presented it was not really fair and mechanical Turk was used [02:23:48] for quality control. It doesn't really change that clearly they ran into a lot of the same challenges that self-driving vehicles have been running into where the first 80% is, you know, doable without the, you know, the heaviest lift [02:24:04] bit. It's the edge cases that you have to solve for that are the hardest part that make a project like this potentially no longer cost effective. Um, and so ultimately they're obviously not working [02:24:18] on that anymore. Amazon did can the program as far as I'm aware. Uh but no, it also wasn't just a bunch of people watching security camera feeds and you data. >> Yeah. [02:24:34] Okay. Team viewer. >> Uh team viewer. Oh yeah, sure. We >> did we do sponsors? >> We have one more but we can talk about team viewer first. I'm I'm so irritated. [02:24:49] >> What do we do? >> But I'm just really annoyed. I >> The Team Viewer community is really upset about this. Uh, hey, my perpetual license was deactivated for remote access. So, only LAN mode works. Like, [02:25:05] what? I'm [snorts] not asking for updates or new features. I'm simply functionality, which existed at the time of purchase, to not be taken away. Disabling the main feature of a perpetual license is effect effectively [02:25:18] a termination or downgrade of the license. I want you to fix this. they change heart. Yeah, they're not they're not going to. They are not [02:25:30] taking enough flak for this. So, let's help with that. And uh hey, don't use Team Viewer. Cool. [snorts] >> Oh no. Karashi says, "We were hit by this at work. Ended up being strongarmed [02:25:45] into paying for a discounted subscription license. Why would you give them your business? Use something else. There are other problem. There are other programs, guys. [02:25:57] No. >> Do we make like a video guide on getting yourself out of Team Viewer?" >> That's a pretty good idea cuz we still [snorts] we're going to have to get rid of it. So, like we need to get rid of it [02:26:11] >> cuz I'm I'm thinking like we got to do something. They have to they deserve to >> I'm down. Is that something that like Labs wants to work on potentially? >> I mean, prep. >> We could probably uh It seems a little [02:26:25] >> does it? >> Yeah, I think so. Are we Are we testing? >> I have no idea. I mean, latency would matter. I don't adequate remote viewer going to add it. I'll add it to the I'll add it to the [snorts] pile. Okay. [02:26:41] alternative to team viewer because Yeah, just like I don't know, Team Viewer basically. >> Yeah, big time. >> I'm very sorry to hear um that your company is still giving the money [02:26:56] because if you cancel perpetual licenses, you should just you should exist. >> Yeah, [snorts] big time. Rust Desk. Apparently, it's free and open source and can be self-hosted, [02:27:11] >> not the sales pitch that you think it is for a lot of organizations. Uh >> may maybe it can also here I'm going to your screen. [02:27:23] >> It does not have to be self-hosted. >> Okay, that's good. That's [snorts] cool. >> It's really cool that they have a self-hosted option. There are a bunch of places that will not want that. >> Uh people are talking about Ninja RMM. I [02:27:36] subscription, that sure as heck is not going to be uh the way that you're going to want to go. Uh what else we got? >> Apparently, Pancratz knows a bunch of options. >> Float viewer confirmed. No. Um Noah Deos [02:27:51] asks, "How about Parseek?" To my knowledge, Parseek doesn't do mobile. needed something that worked mobile to desktop and desktop to mobile >> without this is not a prepped topic um [02:28:07] without knowing competitors or anything. Parseek has internally. >> Yeah, Evan Benjamin says Parseek is only >> not on iOS >> based. [02:28:21] [laughter] I mean, no, that's not that's not a competitive advantage for them, Luke. >> [laughter] something that we'll we'll look into on the writing side and then we'll go from [02:28:35] >> I mean, we're Labs would be happy to like test something if you want something tested here. I just it Yeah. >> Yeah, that's fine. That's fair enough. [snorts] >> Yeah, Labs is lazy. I get it. [02:28:47] >> All right, we'll do the whole video. It'll be like tech tips. Forget that Linus guy. Who needs him? >> I'm going to make a Labs channel. I'll just do W show. I'll do half of W show [02:28:59] actually. >> Yeah. Yeah. Get it right. >> All right. Why don't we do our second uh sponsor read here? The show is brought sponsor read here? The show is brought to you by Motion Gray. What? What? Radon man says, "What is a gizzy?" I assume that it's a hot dog. >> It's a hot dog. You know, for Labs's >> It's a hot dog. You know, for Labs's last quarterly event, we did we did fine [02:30:30] >> Oh, okay. That's cool. >> The fine dining was Costco. >> Nice. Nice. >> So, we went to the Costco food court and piled up like a huge We I borrowed one of the like, you know, cardboard box [02:30:42] Costco and we just filled it up mostly with hot dogs, but there was other with the gravy pool. >> There was pizza. There's Everyone could and then we got a few. >> Did anyone get a chicken? [02:30:56] Did >> I tell you my son pulled that move a >> Just a whole rotisserie chicken. >> Yeah, he like we were we were getting lunch at the at the deli. It wasn't actually at Costco, but it was like at a [02:31:08] >> and everyone was like getting like a you just got an entire rotisserie chicken. all that?" and he's like, "I'm 13." >> Protein goals accomplished. [02:31:20] >> So, anyway, carry on. >> Yeah, that's a good answer. [laughter] Yeah. Um, what was I going to say? Yeah. And it was I was stunned at how cheap it was to feed like a large amount of [02:31:35] >> I'm stunned that for the simple price of how much we save on their hot dogs and rotisserie chicken, Costco managed to infiltrate our sponsor spots without [laughter] show is also brought to you by XSplit. We've got a couple more topics and then I think it's time more topics and then I think it's time for After Dark. Oh, here's a good one. [02:32:43] for After Dark. Oh, here's a good one. An unlucky RTX5080 buyer received rocks in their box in socks eating locks. Posted it to Tik Tok. It doesn't matter. The point is they got rocks in their box [02:33:00] and Best Buy after I think about a six-minute investigation determined that they weren't going to do anything for them. So they went and did their own darn investigation, finding that um [02:33:14] finding that um after placing constant calls to filing a Better Business Bureau complaint, filing a police report, and finding evidence that the package gained weight in transit, [02:33:28] >> which is like so pathetic. They didn't even Indiana Jones it properly. >> Yeah, I know. I know. Um, so basically found in their own investigation that the package gained weight in transit and got Best [02:33:43] gained weight in transit and got Best Buy to finally agree to refund and to Best Buy's credit even price match the original deal. The buyer, and this is hilarious, apparently got a commemorative tattoo from their [02:33:58] girlfriend to uh Well, I guess if it's a commemorative tattoo, then it's to commemorate the ordeal. But I'm actually I'm not finding that image. >> I do. It's the very last one. I've got [02:34:11] >> Nice. [snorts] So, it was a it was a tough gaming GPU. So that's the ASUS tough gaming logo on a rock, which is pretty funny. look like the logo is glowing and everything. That's pretty good. [02:34:25] >> This is one of those ones where it's like I can see I can definitely see both must get See, that's the thing about fraudsters is they will find any opportunity to fraud. And so Best Buy probably does get a lot of fraudulent. [02:34:40] I got bricks in my GPU box. >> Dude, I Yeah, I worked there. This the time. >> So I can understand why they're just >> per forget it >> Xbox 360s and return them without the [02:34:53] >> Xbox 360s and return them without the hard drives. Um obvious what's going on notice because they don't necessarily they're not necessarily familiar with They'd be missing stuff all the time. Why buy an accessory when you can just [02:35:07] >> Yep. >> Right. Yeah. Um so I can understand that. But also like this stuff does happen. Stuff does get stolen in transit. And so I this user was rightfully outraged. And [02:35:22] the fact that it was so easy to investigate and find out that yeah, when weighing the same. It [snorts] just feels like Best Buy didn't even want to >> I don't think they did. And the dumbest part is that because of [02:35:37] the way that this happened, Best Buy should actually be entitled to the courier's problem. This is not Best Buy's liability. [02:35:52] So that uh [snorts] that shopper was one tough customer. hoverhanding it. Yeah. >> Yeah. You know, like that old movie from [02:36:07] pro I'm assuming when we were relatively young uh of that kid who'd play baseball and his arm would like you'd hear it like and then he'd let go and it would fire off and he ended up playing in like professional leagues. Do you have any [02:36:21] talking? Rookie of the year. Rookie of the year. [laughter] >> Okay. Yeah. No, I've never seen >> Yeah, this is it. Wow. Pancrats had that on deck, [laughter] dude. Um, but yeah, that that uh that was Dan right there. [02:36:36] >> Okay. 1993. >> Ready to hit the bell. >> Okay. I probably should have uh I probably should have seen that one. I'm >> 40% on Rotten Tomatoes, so maybe not. >> Yikes. I mean, I pulled out Airbud, [02:36:50] which probably isn't rated much better. >> Yeah, but Airbud is legendary. >> rookie of [snorts] the year is legendary for me, but it might not be for for >> Dude, I don't know. There's some pretty good movies that are rated pretty bad. [02:37:03] good movies that are rated pretty bad. Yeah, Airbuds a 50% and a 40% from the audience, so not so much. But this is going to blow your mind. going to blow your mind. >> The Boondock Saints is rated 26% by [02:37:16] >> I had no idea. >> Wait, by critics? Okay, who cares about >> No, seriously though, but like >> Wait, would Dan would that cl >> That would work for your thing. >> 100%. That is a movie to watch. [02:37:30] >> How and like okay listen I haven't watched that movie since I was in my late teens early 20s. So maybe maybe stylistically artistically it's a crap movie. Maybe it has a bad [02:37:45] plot or it's full of cliches and tropes or you know whatever. Maybe maybe. But like [snorts] I remember enjoying it a lot. >> I thought it was cool. It's been forever since I've seen it, but I thought it was [02:37:59] since I've seen it, but I thought it was cool. Critics consensus. A juvenile ugly tendencies of directors channeling Tarantino. >> Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool, >> but again, I haven't seen it since I was [02:38:14] quite young. Who did direct this? Troy Duffy. What else have you directed? Okay, not much. The sequel to The Boondock Saints, which nobody liked. And [02:38:26] no, whatever the heck guest house is, a zero center. >> Wow. This guy looks like he just watched Guest House. >> Yeah. Really? I don't know if I've ever seen a zero. [02:38:40] >> Uh, yeah. That one that I was almost in but got cut out of was a zero for a >> I think it's 1% now. >> A [snorts] >> Oh, it's up to 4% probably. Uh yeah, it only takes two people to give it a [02:38:54] >> Amazon reviews came in. >> Yeah, the plot is ludicrous. >> It's a true desktop disaster. >> I hope that person knew what they were right, though. >> Oh, maybe they didn't then. [laughter] [02:39:11] >> Luda. >> All right. Um, what else we got for today? >> Apple finded $116 million over app. cuz people keep posting about it. Where [02:39:24] Corsair cancels orders and increases prices. This was mentioned in the pre-show just from some people in chat. This is not a prepared topic. Um, but we have a link over to I guess our subreddit that is talking about [02:39:39] Corsair's subreddit and some of what's going on. Again, because this is not a prepared topic, we don't have a lot of notes for this, but um apparently theoretically what's happening is Corsair is cancelling orders and yeah, [02:39:54] Corsair is cancelling orders and yeah, then hiking prices. I think I read no. Yeah, in this one, if I scroll down here and and this is still on the line of actually gone to Corsair subreddit yet, but this person shared this photo. Um, [02:40:09] them. To be fair, it was definitely pricing error on their part. 48 GB of disappointing. The prices for the same RAM is now double now. And you can see this screenshot that basically says it was a system error, so they canceled it [02:40:24] on you and they tried to offer a gesture of goodwill, 15% off your next order. Um, >> okay. People are saying in in chat, I read this earlier, that in some areas of the world, uh maybe not where this is [02:40:37] in the States. I don't know. But in some areas in the world, um this is uh illegal apparently. Uh but I don't know if it's illegal where they're doing it. [02:40:49] Again, this is a fairly unprepared topic. Um but pretty topic. Um but pretty crazy. um especially while tensions are rather high over RAM and most of the posts that I'm seeing about this is [02:41:05] posts that I'm seeing about this is um RAM stuff. Yeah. >> Yeah. I don't know. There's a lot of these posts. [02:41:21] There's actually quite a few of them scrolling through the Corsair subreddit. scrolling through the Corsair subreddit. >> [snorts] say about it. >> Yeah. I don't know. If it's actually a [02:41:34] >> Yeah. I don't know. If it's actually a pricing error, um, then it is what it is. And it's actually kind of nice of them to offer a 15% discount. Uh if it's not a pricing error and it's just pricing going up and them [02:41:48] not accounting for it and updating things quickly enough, that is a pricing error of sorts, but it's not a pricing error like a like a data input error in a pricing error. [snorts] And the fact that this is happening on complete [02:42:03] kind of leads me to believe that it could be the latter, in which case it's not very cool. Um either way, it's not a prepared topic. We don't really know >> Yeah, it's going to be down to sort of following this up with your local [02:42:17] consumer protection bureau, assuming that you have one and uh otherwise or >> Apparently, they've cranked up the discount. Here's an updated message that >> Oh, >> uh we or not on a thread. This is a a [02:42:33] post itself. Sorry, I don't read it enough. Um truly understandable. Uh 40% choice. >> Okay. Was the other one for a full full system being >> I'm not sure. But what I do see here at [02:42:47] the bottom says the original 15% coupon remains valid for other components on >> Got it. So that was probably for a system. Oh, okay. Interesting. >> Sounds more like DM to me. So, what this tells me then is Corsair has some stock [02:43:01] probably of DRAM that they are that is at old contract pricing and they're able to use some of the margin that they have on their DRAM that they have at the old pricing as pricing is going up to offer a discount and I mean that's something [02:43:15] >> Yeah. All right. >> Again, don't know all the details blah blah blah. Insert various caveats. Oh, speaking of the LTT subreddit, um, before anyone notices it and goes, "Sorry, what?" Um, oh, [snorts] shoot. I [02:43:30] can't I can't see a list of moderators without being logged in, but I am officially a moderator on the subreddit. Now, this is not because our plan is to, you know, be [snorts] meanies and censor people. Um, but [02:43:44] as me then? >> Yeah, I can do that. So, I can't recover >> Oh, okay. >> Unless someone watching like knows people at Reddit and can help me. >> Oh, I mean that's probably true, too. [02:43:57] recover my old Reddit account. >> Cool. >> It seems like when we migrated from Last Pass to Keeper, maybe that password didn't come along and I never attached it to an email cuz you at least used to [02:44:09] seems to be no way for me to recover the account. I can log into it. I just have to boot up my old computer which still has an active session. For whatever reason, it's been like, you know, I I I'm pretty sure the time [snorts] gap in [02:44:24] which I tried it was like over 6 months and then it just it worked no problem. I can't do anything to recover it or set a new password. So, I have been locked a new password. So, I have been locked out. Cool. So yeah, the goal is not to, [02:44:38] you know, be mean or anything like that, but I'm be mean or anything like that, but I'm also not going to claim that if I see someone who's a complete bad faith dum dum that they will continue to have [02:44:53] posting privileges. So make of that what you will. Um, so for instance, there's a thread about the new truce spec cables and um, you know, these are going to be the new monster cable and they're going to be [02:45:09] monster cable and they're going to be have absurd pricing and you can just, I don't know, post on other subreddits, I guess, because you don't actually have evidence for the claim that you're making. Um, [02:45:22] person significantly enough, it might even be good to leave it up. >> Um, why? >> Uh, so the people can see that an immediately discounted. But I mean, that's all your call. [02:45:37] >> Yeah. All right. Duly noted. >> It's [snorts] just an just an idea. I makes sense and there will be plenty of cases where that does not make sense. >> Yeah. I don't know. I think uh I think Buddy here who says, "I've always wanted [02:45:52] to buy expensive, overpriced USB cables, but didn't feel like going to Best Buy." I think they can just take a vacation, though. Like, do they what? Why? Why do they need to be here? I mean, the hate watchers need somewhere [02:46:05] >> There are [snorts] other places. >> There are other places where people can post. That is an option. It's 100% an option. I'll think about it. So far, I have not I have not banned anyone, but uh I don't know that's not necessarily a [02:46:20] uh I don't know that's not necessarily a guarantee is all I'm saying. And to be clear, this is not down to so opinions are okay. So here's the problem. This is not a product that they [02:46:34] have seen. It's not a product that they know anything about. be pissed. >> Yeah, you'd hate it. You'd say that we've completely lost all credibility and any right to offer up an opinion on [02:46:49] things if we just said stuff completely without any precedent for it or any evidence. It's just completely bad faith engagement and there's really no need cables, >> that's totally different. [02:47:02] >> That's totally different. We've even highlighted reviews of our products that >> Yeah, >> we're open to that. But if you're just trashing on something that you don't know anything about, you don't know the [02:47:17] pricing, you don't know the quality, and you're just saying it's bad, you have outed yourself. You've outed yourself as [snorts] [snorts] I a noncredible, non-serious person. No, [02:47:29] that's not that's not the same thing, guys. You don't get to have an opinion guys. You don't get to have an opinion about something that you don't actually demonstrably [snorts] you don't know anything about it just [02:47:43] you don't know anything about it just kind of doesn't really work like that. comments that assume the product is great without them having seen it or [02:47:58] having evidenced otherwise?" I don't think I saw any. [snorts] listening to >> Will you also delete someone who assumes having seen it or having it be evidenced otherwise? I will say that I banned [02:48:15] someone on the YouTube channel who was who was spamming um an inaccurate defense of some scandal that we had. So they they were like rah rah super prott [02:48:29] >> about something and there was misinformation in their defense. So, I shadowbanned them. Um, so no, I'm not interested in people white knighting inaccurately. Um, however, [02:48:53] definitely requires a think. Uh, Kara says, "You get to have an opinion on anything. It's an opinion." Yeah, but it's also not a it's not a >> Yeah, you can go have that opinion anywhere. You can do it somewhere else. [02:49:07] personally like I think there are so I used to be really rahrh about um moderation standards on on in certain ways and blah blah blah blah. But I >> You and I were like militantly nothing [02:49:22] >> Yeah. >> For a very long time. the the only like primary rule on the forum was that you can attack us too, but no personal attacks against other people. Um, and that like that's even that's like really [02:49:36] really open. But now there's just there's just there's just it's so easy to mass generate accounts. it's so easy to mass generate accounts. It's so easy to AI spam with things. Um, [02:49:48] there's so much like group think hatred imagine. I'm not even just talking about us. Um, at all to be clear. Um, and it's so easy to hijack a community with surprisingly little effort to just [02:50:06] make it a terrible place. And [snorts] it's so common now that I just I just don't really care anymore. Um, there are 10 million other places on the internet, more than that, that you can go. It's not like we're like taking your house [02:50:19] not like we're like taking your house from you. Like, it's literally Reddit. that. >> Oh, >> there are also other subreddits that will talk about us and our stuff. [02:50:31] >> Binky Draws says, "I'm a moderator on a medium-sized Discord server, and there's a huge problem with bot accounts." >> Yeah. like it's it's uh it's actually unreasonable to do in my opinion what would be considered as like old style of [02:50:44] would be considered as like old style of moderation anymore. Um yeah, and there's a big difference between saying that you feel [02:50:56] that the cables might be overpriced and low quality >> versus saying definitively that it is. >> Yeah, sure. >> Huge [snorts] difference. [02:51:12] All right, what else we got going on here? Oh, Nvidia and AMD rumored to be here? Oh, Nvidia and AMD rumored to be preparing GPU price hikes in Q1 of 2026. adding [snorts] some weight to this, an ASUS letter has allegedly leaked [02:51:27] announcing price hikes starting January 5th, which means that it could be our um [clears throat] it could be our last positive. [02:51:40] it could be our last positive. How much is the Intel Arc B580 investigation check? Is [snorts] the B580 still MSR? Oh god. >> Oh. >> Oh no. [02:51:58] Oh, out of stock. >> No. [gasps] >> Is that one out of stock, too? >> No. Yeah, I'm down into I'm down into >> No. Yeah, I'm down into I'm down into all the out of stock stuff. No. [02:52:10] >> Oh, no. >> Dan, don't tell people to panic. Why would you tell people to panic? >> RIOT. [laughter] IT'S ALL GOING WRONG. >> Why would you Why would you Why would you spread panic? Literally. Literally [02:52:25] >> Burn down your village. >> Okay, hold on. Hold on. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Oh, it's an open box. That's an open box. Wait, but hold on. >> Is this a Is this a shift in USD CAD? [02:52:39] >> This is US. >> What is their MSRP? Oh, dude. >> So, what is it supposed to be again? >> $2.49 49 for the B580 >> and the lowest one is $299. [02:52:53] It hit. The holiday bundle is still there, but it's over. there, but it's over. B580 at MSRP party is over. B580 at MSRP party is over. Oh boy. No. [02:53:10] [sighs] No. Oh, that is such a downer. Sell, sell, sell. Dump it, Dan. [snorts] Stop it. [02:53:24] You are not You are the definition of not helping. [laughter] Okay. B580. Can computers, are you going to let me [02:53:39] down here? Okay. Online sold out. Online available for 400. That's way over 250. No, no, [02:53:53] no, no. It's 300 US now. Oh, this is probably not the end of it either. All right. >> 359 from Newegg. >> Reports out of Korea say No, there was [02:54:05] that indeed >> CAD. >> Oh, where on Newegg? >> Yeah. Is it in stock? be honest. >> Yeah. Add to cart. I think you're good. [02:54:20] >> Okay. So, you can still get them at Newegg [snorts] Canada for about $249 >> It's not too bad. >> That is often how that goes. [02:54:32] >> Yes. >> I'm having a very Luke experience. >> Reports out of Korea. >> I have to do it again. that Nvidia and AMD are planning to jack up GPU prices throughout the show in early 2026, and [02:54:46] the top end GeForce RTX 5090 could end up around $5,000, which is more than double what it first launched for. Memory costs and broader GPU supply issues are squeezing component prices and makers are said to [02:55:01] be shifting more of their production towards AI and data centers which will boost prices across the board. The hikes are expected to happen in steps throughout Q1 2026 affecting not only flagship cards but a range of consumer [02:55:16] GPUs. Meanwhile, ASUS sent partners a notice that starting January 5th of 2026, it will raise prices on some of its will raise prices on some of its products right before CES gets going. [02:55:29] Roughly translated, ASUS' letter doesn't list exact models. It just says they're doing strategic price adjustments on certain product combinations. Discussion question. In your time as a tech enthusiast, can you remember a [02:55:43] worse start to the new year for the tech industry? price hikes and shortages seems like a pretty bad way to kick off 2026. [02:55:55] I don't know. It's this is a tough one because on the one hand there's a lot of bad news. This is all bad news. Wow has kind of become bad news show. >> But and this [snorts] is part of remember that that conversation we had [02:56:09] weeks about sort of the bright side bright side of tech and gaming. Um, this is one of the things that made its way into the full LT video on this. Okay, [02:56:21] [snorts] you can go to PC part picker right now and you can select magnificent AMD gaming and streaming build. And this thing really is magnificent. It has a [02:56:33] 9800 X3D, the fastest gaming processor known to mankind. It has a sick thermal right [snorts] giant dual tower cooler. It has a B580 ProA motherboard or [02:56:48] motherboard if you really want. Actually, apparently this one's out of stock. Uh, let's see. Uh, everything else is either >> Uhoh. Hold on. We might be in trouble. Okay. [02:57:00] When I looked earlier this week, this particular GPU was in stock. >> At time of filming. >> At time of filming. Hold on. Let's try one. I'm going to find one. [02:57:14] builds. >> There's an Intel and an AMD. >> Oh [ __ ] What am I doing? Getting [snorts] distracted. RTX 5080. Okay. Okay. Here we go. Here [02:57:27] we go. Okay. So, for 11 $1199. Okay. So, that's a little more. That's a little that's a little more. That's a little more. It is uh 17 $16 more. Okay. So, just got to go find a motherboard, which is fine. Okay. So, we'll pay at most [02:57:42] maybe another like 30 40 bucks. Okay. Everything else here is in stock. Cool. Okay. So, this is a sick system. 32 gigs of DDR5 6000 CL30 memory. It's a nice [02:57:54] little memory kit. 2 TB. This is a Samsung 980 Pro. That's a nice SSD. Samsung 980 Pro. That's a nice SSD. Okay. RTX 5080 ARGB quick case from Corsair. You could save a few bucks by not going Corsair. Uh 1000 watt 80 plus [02:58:08] gold modular power supply. This is a sick build for let's call it 2650 US dollars. >> If if we're looking at the guides page [02:58:20] of PC Part B picker, which ones maybe top two do you think people are >> Hold on, hold on. That's not quite the point. >> Uh, okay. I think it matters, but all right. The point is that we did a 4K [02:58:33] right. The point is that we did a 4K gaming system build guide 11 years ago. Putting together a topsp spec gaming machine was $4,000 [02:58:45] at that time. The 4K build was 4K. I actually remember joking about that at the time. So, is it bad? Well, yeah. It's definitely bad that this RAM is more expensive than it was. It's definitely [02:59:00] bad that GPU prices >> are going up, >> but gaming and tech have still kind of been there for us in a pretty big way. The fact that I can buy an absolute monster [02:59:16] of a machine for 2500 bucks compared to the way that everything else in our the way that everything else in our lives is going up. lives is going up. It's pretty cool. [02:59:33] >> Yeah. I also think like the the disproportional hit is not on people >> And that's true. [snorts] And that's true. It's rough. >> Yeah. Cuz like even if you're going for the great and like I I did scroll down [02:59:48] here. I noticed there's the entry and modest are like way below the fold. >> Hold on. have a have a click on the entry level one though cuz like I remember building an entry-level system for myself back in the sort of mid to [03:00:01] late 2000s and it didn't even have a dedicated GPU. I'm willing to bet this >> Yeah, B580. >> Yeah. So, like >> it's showing an MSRP B580. >> Oh, yeah. There you go. B&H apparently [03:00:14] >> in stock. In stock. >> Oh, okay. That looked That didn't look gray circle with a slash through it from here. mark, but it's >> okay. That's really stupid. B&H, you [03:00:30] that. [laughter] >> I just just convention. have. >> Yeah, [laughter] you know, you could get banned. >> I could They're allowed to ban me from [03:00:44] >> They're actually allowed to do that. >> Yeah. Um the the the the 32 gigs of RAM for 179 is surprising. So So yes, you know, it could be it could be [03:00:59] it [snorts] could be better, but I also do feel like some of this is people just do feel like some of this is people just kind of piling on to an issue. >> I I >> rage baiting. And [03:01:11] think I think you're uh >> you don't think people posting like a $2,000 RAM kit is rage baiting a little bit? Nobody was buying that anyway. >> I'm sure there's I'm sure there's some of that. This does still definitely suck [03:01:24] >> It does, >> especially on the lower end where like a >> cuz I if I remember correctly, the Magnificent build that RAM cost was like a little bit more than 10%. >> Yeah. [03:01:37] >> on some of these entry ones. I'm assuming this is like a really looking at great AMD gaming builds, let's see. I haven't even clicked at this one yet. Let's see. >> Yeah, like the RAM being $314 [03:01:50] >> Yeah, like the RAM being $314 on a system that is where is it? Uh >> is [snorts] going to push past people's limits to the point where they might have to step down. Um >> hold on. Can you go back to that one [03:02:03] >> Sure. >> But let's again let's look at the bigger >> But let's again let's look at the bigger picture here. So, this is a really nice six core processor. Legit. >> Uh, what kind of GPU do we have in here? [03:02:15] We have a 50. We have a 5060 Ti. >> A GameStop SSD. >> Okay. No, this build sucks. >> What is a GameStop? I didn't know >> I might just generally have kind of issues with this build though because [03:02:27] >> What is this? >> Oh, this is a thing. Yeah, this is a >> That's wild. Sorry, I had no idea. >> At this budget, you should be using a stock cooler though. you should not be using an X chip, which just saved you [03:02:40] probably about 40 bucks. What else do we have here? Oh, that 5060 Ti is not the So, you should just be using an ARC B580, which just saved you another 100 [03:02:52] plus dollars. No, not 100 plus. Oh, yeah. dollars. No, not 100 plus. Oh, yeah. Which just saved you like another $150. Also, if I'm spending $70 on a case, I'm sure as heck not getting a Monteek [03:03:06] and I do not need a 750 watt power supply, that's a crappy build. range, you're going to benefit from at least doing a at the very least a bit of used or something. >> I would for sure [03:03:19] [snorts] >> Yeah, this is this is not uh I haven't priced out a rig in a long time. I'm not going to comment, but [03:03:31] >> yeah, [snorts] that's that's not a good that's not a wellconfigured build. Um, >> is it possible that it was at one point and then pricing changes made it worse? >> That is possible, but also it's just like got too big of a power supply, [03:03:45] future proof, but if you're targeting like around $1,000 to $1,100, then you're in my opinion better off getting what you need. Um, [03:03:57] Yeah, >> you'd want to spec down from that, >> dude. If I'm if I'm running an RTX 4060, like what does an RT RTX 4060 even use? >> 5060 Ti? I'm not sure. >> Or sorry, what was it? [03:04:11] >> Okay, let me check what a 5060 Ti is because I don't think it uses a ton of power. Yeah, it's it's a 180 watt card. >> And then you have a 95 You have a 95 watt CPU. What are you doing buying a [03:04:27] >> I don't know how much money you're going to save going down to 650 or 550 or >> Yeah, [snorts] >> cuz you could save 20 bucks on your case. You could save uh 30 what what I about 40 bucks on your CPU and cooler. [03:04:42] You can save what? Another 15 20 bucks on your power supply. You could save 100 150 bucks on your GPU. Okay, now we're talking about an appreciable difference in how much you're paying for this computer. Like [03:04:55] it's this is what I spent years [snorts] of my life doing on the NCIX forums is of my life doing on the NCIX forums is saving $3 on this and $10 on that and 15 bucks on this and $4 on that and all of a sudden you saved [03:05:10] >> You saved $100 on your system. That's a free copy of Windows back when people >> Uh oh yeah, >> that's a lie. Dude, do you have any idea how many system invoices I have looked at in my life? [03:05:25] People buy Windows. This is going to be mind-blowing for for many many members of our audience. Many members of our audience. People definitely [snorts] definitely buy Windows. [03:05:39] the power supplies. You're not going to save a ton, but you might save 10 bucks. >> Yeah. Which is Hey, 10 bucks is 10 bucks, especially if you don't need Was that one modular? >> Uh, okay. The one in the build. [03:05:53] >> Uh, okay. The one in the build. >> Yeah. the filters. You [snorts] do not need a modular power supply in a $1,000 build. That's that's silly. You should not be [03:06:06] doing that. So, people are just they're making unwise decisions in the >> I think how long a lot of the power supplies I've had have lasted. I might modular one knowing that I can carry it into my next build. [03:06:19] >> Sure, but then you're [snorts] going to be making compromises that I personally would consider to be unacceptable at that budget. At that budget, I'm >> more on a power supply if I think I can carry it into my next build. [03:06:32] >> It all adds up. I mean, but that's how you end up spending a little more on could make the same justification across the board. the board. >> You don't need 32 gigs of RAM today. [03:06:44] I don't know if that's valid. >> You like it? do that for every component is valid though. There are power supplies that >> what minute. >> No, no, no. That's not what I'm saying. [03:06:57] >> No, no, no. That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that that that rationale that that well this could last a little longer if I get a better one. You could >> Yeah. >> Like I'll get a slightly better case. I [03:07:09] >> you could say the better. You could say the better same thing for your CPU next build. >> Especially if you can get new mounting brackets or or make your own. >> And so my point is and now all of a [03:07:22] sudden you're you're kind of buying a different class of machine. And when I'm >> disagree >> when I'm configuring a $1,000 build, I'm class machine by spending $10 more dollars on my power supply. But you are [03:07:35] you're using a different rationale for how you're choosing your components. >> I am choosing my components at that price point based on what this gets me today. If I can get some degree of futurep proofness out of it, then that's [03:07:47] great. But I don't think that a 650 or even a 550 W power supply is going to meaningfully impact my upgrade path. Because at the end of the day, if I'm someone that's shopping for a 5060 Ti today, I am not someone that's shopping [03:08:02] today, I am not someone that's shopping for a 7080 in a couple of years. That's a completely different class of product. And if I am, life stage. >> And but if I am and my life stage has [03:08:15] >> you might also get a higher quality power supply. That's it would take some >> sure. But if you're looking at, you know, $10 or $20 cheaper, you're still getting a quality unit. You're just getting one that's rated a little lower. [03:08:29] And the same way that if my life stage has changed such that I go from shopping has changed such that I go from shopping for an ARC B580 to shopping for a 7080 or something like that, all of a sudden I can afford a $1,500 GPU. My life stage [03:08:43] has probably changed to the point where I could offload my old system and I could buy a new power supply. Like that's the thing. Working at the computer store, man, I thought everybody upgrades their computers. [03:08:56] >> I do though. >> I know you do. Which is why your perspective is very interesting. But [laughter] as someone who worked at the store >> Yeah. But we're talking to people in the [03:09:10] community that might actually upgrade their stuff. Man, there are some ancient power supplies that are not well priced on Facebook Marketplace. This is rough. >> look at how old this XFX power supply is. [laughter] [03:09:22] >> 60 bucks. >> It's also 40 $45. >> It's also 40 $45. I mean, I'd trust that in my system. It >> is old. >> Yeah. Is that 80 plus gold or bronze? [03:09:36] >> Oo, that's one of their weaker ones. Um, XFX's power supplies from that era were quality though. And I believe this is this is the all wattage available on the [03:09:48] 12vt rail era. You can you can double check that by just zooming in really check that by just zooming in really close. Yeah, 744 of this 755 watts is on the 12vt rail. Um I would probably check real quick and just make sure that it [03:10:02] doesn't have like a virtual multi-rail thing that's going to cause OCP to trip. But I believe this is post that as well. So I would I would probably trust that should be reliable. >> It's [snorts] just so old. [03:10:16] >> It's [snorts] just so old. >> Yeah, but like so like 3 minutes ago you the justification for spending more is I can use it a long time. discount that is already ancient. >> How is it not a significant discount? [03:10:28] What's a 750 W power supply today? >> I don't know. In Canada, >> feel like a significant discount. >> If only I mean, we we can't just go on >> right? But I'm acknowledging that because we're having a discussion about [03:10:42] numbers on. This is very reasonable. >> Okay. Okay. [snorts] It is a very significant discount. >> Okay. I'd be interested to see from like Lucas or something like grabbing a bunch of old power supplies like that. [03:10:56] >> I ah you know what I wanted to do years ago? Do you remember the video that we ago? Do you remember the video that we did where we got a brand new EVGA 580 GTX and we compared it against one that had been used for like 10 years? [03:11:11] that had been used for like 10 years? >> Oh, to find out if like cuz people people imagine that their their silicon devices go slower over time. And we basically had been trying to debunk that for a long time. Like [03:11:27] >> vague memory of this. I do have some memory of this. If it runs at megahertz memory of this. If it runs at megahertz X, then it is running at megahertz X X, then it is running at megahertz X like modern silicon that you know has [03:11:39] that can that that dynamically uh changes its clock speeds, right? That uh changes its clock speeds, right? That turbo boosts might turbo less aggressively over time or your thermal interface material might degrade, right? [03:11:52] And that could impact performance. But megahertz is megahertz. I don't make the rules. it runs at the speed it runs at. And if you are imagining that there is some kind of slowdown, it is probably because your demands have increased or [03:12:07] because your demands have increased or the software that you're using is um another way of saying your demands have increased and um >> which is almost certainly happening >> which is almost certainly happening [03:12:21] and you imagined it or or you imagined it. Those are those are basically the two options and you'd have people swearing up and down that running same way it gets slower over time. So we we debunked it once and for all. We took [03:12:35] we debunked it once and for all. We took a brand new sealedin box that EVGA found for us and tested it against an old one that had been on the bench for years and also in someone's system for years. And we ran them through the exact same suite [03:12:48] and lo and behold they performed exactly the same because that's how it works. one? >> I don't even think. Well, we didn't was no dynamic clock speed adjustments on the 580. [snorts] [03:13:02] >> So, the point was if it's running at clock speed X, then its performance will clock speed X, then its performance will be X. It's that simple. Um, and I had wanted to do the same thing for a [snorts] power supply. I wanted to get [03:13:14] [snorts] power supply. I wanted to get my hands on a brand new old model power supply and compare it against one that had been deployed for 10 years or something like that in someone's, you know, server closet or something. And I [03:13:26] together because everyone talks about how you should budget like 10% for capacitor aging. But my understanding is capacitor aging. But my understanding is that's actually super ancient outdated [03:13:40] electrolytic era >> capacitor era. >> Like solid state caps from my understanding of them may decay a little bit but not to nearly the same degree that those older power supplies did. Um, [03:13:55] but I just I haven't really I haven't pursued it recently, but I when I like looked into it and wanted to do it, I wasn't able to find anyone who was able wasn't able to find anyone who was able to to get me an old one. Um, [03:14:08] >> and a and an untouched >> Oh, Empor 47 in float plane chat for crying out loud. Context matters. Uh, they're saying, "I understand the point, but mehz is a terrible metric. I had a Pentium 4 that ran at 3 GHz and my 5800 [03:14:22] X3 runs at 3.4." you saying? >> Not what I was saying. We're talking [clears throat] two of an identical product over time. Context matters, >> not IPC improvements and stuff. >> Sheesh. All right. [clears throat] [03:14:36] >> Sheesh. All right. [clears throat] Anyho, um, what topic are we even on? Oh, [snorts] okay. We got No, we were done. New one. Moders are slapping 32 [03:14:50] gigs of VRAM on Nvidia's RTX5080s. [snorts] But spoiler, that's not good news for gamers. The modded variants are for AI workstations and servers. [03:15:04] Cool. I [snorts] guess there's really not much to say about it other than that. What tier of modders is doing this? Like, is >> Oh, heavens no. >> Yeah, I didn't think so. [03:15:17] >> I knew there was some like, you know, back in the Langley house there was um some power mods you could do to cards that were like >> consumer level doable. >> I think it was uh I think it was [03:15:32] >> Yeah, this already Yeah, I think it was Kingpin who who uh cut the back end off of a GPU and like took the like the backend VRM of another GPU and just like soldered them together and ran it. >> I I might be remembering this [03:15:46] didn't even think he cut one off. I thought he just like it came out in an realistic. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> What am I looking at here? Whatever I'm looking at um is not something that [03:15:58] >> No. >> No. This is pretty sick though. >> I love that their test platform just is a hunk of copper on the GPU [laughter] [03:16:10] so that it will run long enough for them to verify post. It's just It is >> That's awesome. >> The GPU is sinking heat into this copper slug with no actual active cooling on it whatsoever because it's not worth [03:16:26] whatsoever because it's not worth reassembling just to find out if it will post. That is amazing. >> I'm saying this to the public, not to you. But you ever seen the palm method? >> I've used it. [laughter] [03:16:38] >> Yeah, me too. You just put your hand on the chip and you use human water cooling while you just see if it works. >> You got to go relatively fast. That'll get hot real fast. Um, but >> oh man, McBain says, "Linus has not been [03:16:53] know if this was from Northridge Fix, but I did see a motherboard repair that went viral recently that was mindblowing. Like multi-layer PCB. [03:17:05] that. >> Unreal. think. >> By the way, um, do as we say, not as we do. Putting your hand on the chip. People in People in chat are all like, [03:17:21] Lost a couple fingerprints." Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We're not recommending that. That's a terrible, terrible idea. It's bad for your body. It's bad for the the electronic device. Cool. Good chat. Uh, Apple, [03:17:34] >> don't do it again. Apple has been [laughter] Apple has been fined 116 million over app privacy prompts. This is wild. Italy's antitrust authority has fined Apple 98.6 million euro saying that one [03:17:51] of the company's privacy features unfairly restricted competition in the app store. Hold on a second though. Regulators were Hold on a second though. Regulators were focused on app tracking transparency, [03:18:06] Apple's system that requires apps to ask users for permission before tracking users for permission before tracking them for targeted ads. Italy says Apple forces third party apps to ask for user consent twice, creating extra friction [03:18:20] that hurts developers and advertisers who rely on ad revenue. >> Yeah, >> 100%. [03:18:35] >> Apple argues the ruling prioritizes ad tech companies over user privacy. >> Uh yeah. >> And says at >> uh tracking transparency gives users clear control over tracking, which is [03:18:48] great. Applies equal uh equally to all developers, which is great. Apple? >> Apple. That's the one thing. That's what And [snorts] does it does it actually [03:19:00] >> Yeah. >> I mean, log into an iPhone, it's pretty full of ads to use Apple services like iCloud that necessarily >> qualifies as a targeted ad, but I would [03:19:16] say that an iCloud subscription to someone who owns an iPhone, yeah, I'd call that a targeted ad. >> Oh, interesting. >> Not saying I disagree, but interesting line. I don't think it's quite the same. [03:19:29] >> I understand what you're saying. >> It also isn't not a targeted ad. >> If they know I'm out of storage for my photos, >> the second it becomes storage based, it feels like it's a little bit more so. [03:19:44] still technically different things >> and they sure as hell aren't offering me >> Yeah. >> Does Apple do anti-competitive things? Uh-huh. Yeah. >> Yeah. One drive for your iPhone. But is [03:19:57] app tracking transparency uh requiring apps to ask users for permission before tracking them? One of them. >> Yeah, that one I'm more with Apple on. [snorts] [03:20:09] >> And someone asked, is this analogous to one drive in Microsoft? Uh, absolutely. >> Yeah. >> See, that's the whole thing, right? is I often get told I'm hating on Apple, but [03:20:22] I hate it exactly the same if Microsoft does it. [laughter] So [snorts] maybe possibly what I hate is the behavior and the attitude. >> And there's a lot of that on Microsoft. >> Oh. Uh the the decision follows a [03:20:37] similar ruling in France earlier this year where Apple was fined 150 million euros over the same feature. I like this feature though. Yeah, I I [03:20:49] really don't care about anything that Apple does that is a big middle finger to the targeted ad industry. >> Man, back when I I don't I think this comparison makes sense. Back when Telus was cool, they would call you when your [03:21:01] contract was about up and be like, "Look, we can go kind of two different paths here. We can get you more performance for the same price or same performance for less price. Choose your path." And it was always like, "What a [03:21:14] they stop doing that because they're dumb. Um, I don't have a I I got an things because I called them out for a practice that I was going to like actually go after them for and then they fix it. So, things are good. Um, but I [03:21:29] this was such an amazing phone call. I would get a call every like 2 years. It would be from Telus. I would see Telus on the caller ID and be excited because I was like, nice. I'm either getting faster internet or less money being [03:21:42] taken away. It was a great call every time. Blah blah blah. Their argument was that like people hated the calls. I'm like, there is no way that people hated those calls more than their bill going up without them knowing that it's [03:21:55] than they are just because they didn't know. just a BS excuse >> and they could have also done it as an email if people don't like the calls. >> Definitely figured out that this just [03:22:07] >> Cost you money. Yeah. >> Yeah. And there were many other there were many other paths to take. >> So like don't tell me the the thing. Um >> So like don't tell me the the thing. Um >> Tim 000x3 says the do not track button [03:22:21] iPhone. >> There are apps that I desperately need on Android, but I can't justify it. I could use a hardened version of Android, but the best one to do that with is for the Pixel Graph OS. Shout out. And I [03:22:34] don't want to give money to Google. Tim, I have an idea for you. Buy a secondhand Pixel. You can have a pixel, you can run [snorts] >> Just just an idea. Just a thought. [03:22:47] >> WGD18 says, "Linus, do you have more knowledge about the targeted ad industry now that you're buying ads for LT store for the backpack and screwdrivers?" >> I'll be honest with you, I am not buying those ads. I don't know anything more [03:23:00] about it other than, you know, what I [snorts] know from like the news and, you know, learning about it and stuff. >> Yeah. The the other part of what I was going to say is whenever my phone mentions like, "Hey, we noticed that [03:23:13] these apps have privacy features on them or whatever and you don't use these apps very much. Do you want to remove their privacy features?" That's such a like >> Thanks for sending me that. I wanted to see that. Thank you very much. Even if [03:23:27] I'm like no, those are fine. >> Very happy to receive that notification. Just like that. Tell us call. There are certain things. This uh app tracking transparency. I want that popup. That's a great popup. Thanks for giving me that [03:23:40] a great popup. Thanks for giving me that popup. Heck [snorts] yeah. Anyways, moving on. Is that it for topics? >> Yeah, it's after dark. >> Uh you have a thing up here. Playing [03:23:53] >> Yeah. Good. >> Yeah. I'm playing on the GPD Win 5, >> Oh, that's the big chunker one, right? >> No. Oh, >> No. Oh, >> it's the reasonable sized one that Apple [03:24:06] >> it's the reasonable sized one that Apple Vision Pro style has a tether >> to a battery that like you could put in your pocket. >> You just played in bed. >> I put it in my pocket um when I was [03:24:20] sitting at the at the kitchen nook table eating my bedtime cereal uh that I'm back on cuz I lost a bunch of weight. So, what's the downside? Um, >> that's not really how that works, but hey, whatever. [03:24:35] >> Well, what what am I going to do? Gain back my weight? Like, [snorts] >> Which honestly, >> I was clearly calorie in calorie deficit. >> So, if I'm just going to like consume [03:24:49] [snorts] >> I was I was playing badminton with a former uh Canadian Olympian. Uh, was this yesterday? Yeah, yesterday. Uh, this yesterday? Yeah, yesterday. Uh, she's she's super chill. [03:25:04] Wrong one. >> That would be impressive. >> cool. She came by Smash Champs. >> Yeah, she came by Smash Champs and was >> what did she think of the facilities? >> Her and her husband, Bobby Milroy, who [03:25:18] is also, um, [snorts] back in the day pretty pretty hardcore. He was a little younger here. Um, but yeah, absolutely. Like they're older than me [snorts] and Ivonne, but they were pros, [03:25:33] >> it shows >> it's a completely different level. Like they can just they can hit the straight shot and and straight shot doesn't mean straight. It just means the u the highest probability shot from that [03:25:49] Yeah. >> Yeah. So they can hit the straight shot and they can like keep a rally going with us or they can just like do like a double like a double pump or like like a weird sort of like you know [03:26:03] slice shot or whatever and then just we call it an ankle breaker and they can wrong direction and then like it goes the other way and they can just like end the rally kind of anytime they want. Um anyway, what was I talking about? [03:26:18] >> Uh, expedition 33 and then >> Oh, yeah. Expedition 33. So, anyway, the with it. >> Um, >> that's fine. >> However, it can lead to problems. See, I [03:26:31] was sitting there playing Expedition 33 with the battery in my pocket, and [snorts] I was actually done eating my cereal, which is good because I had the bowl with just like a little bit of milk and and my spoon, and I went to get up [03:26:44] and grab something, and I dragged the I dragged the GPD Win 5 off the table, which hit the bowl, which >> fortunately it didn't break, went onto the floor, like splashed milk everywhere, and everything lived. And it [03:26:59] goes to show [snorts] how changeable our habits can be because there was a time in my life when I was constantly attached to a discman when I would have been sure to gather up all my [03:27:14] would have been sure to gather up all my things before I got up from a table. [snorts] But I am no longer that man. >> Bluetooth headphones >> I was just going to say >> have changed my habits. I I've been uh [03:27:27] Things are getting extremely close to being done. Uh but I've been wearing like maybe I'll sit and do something for a little bit and then go do something >> Yeah. >> And I'll do I'll do this [03:27:42] to move the cable that isn't there. And it like I like I'll go to get up and I'll move the cable out of the way so that I'm not going to like step on it. >> Is such a drug, dude. And it's I just feel so weird every time I do it and I [03:27:56] "Oh, where's the cable?" Then I have to remember that I'm wearing Bluetooth >> That's hilarious. >> Yeah. >> Oh, lordy. >> Ew. People are talking about pouring the [03:28:08] milk first and then putting cereal in. >> That's so incorrect. It bothers me. chat? >> Yeah, we should. >> That is literally a wrong opinion. Have you heard about this true nast ditching [03:28:22] >> Oh, >> she's a milk first then cereal person. >> she's a milk first then cereal person. So, here's her justification. Hold on. doesn't like to >> Is she a a rapid top uper? [03:28:38] >> Yeah. >> However, I think that's acceptable. I >> if you're pouring milk into a bowl and you bring the cereal with you, >> she'll have the cereal at hand on the table. She gets a pass. [03:28:52] >> she gets a pass. >> Yeah. [snorts] Yep. Yep. I still don't >> I don't like it either, but she gets a pass. But in the same way, just like I [03:29:04] don't like it when the toilet paper roll goes goes uh goes uh under instead of over, I understand why. And cat owners will understand why. [03:29:18] unravel. >> Yeah, >> there can be good reasons to do bad things. [laughter] Speaking [snorts] of uh anything about that, I we have no notes on this. I [03:29:32] don't think it's a topic, but True NAS is ditching smart tests. Do you have Expedition 33 yet. >> Okay. Yeah, we'll come back. >> I like it and I especially like playing it on the Wim 5. That thing is a [03:29:44] monster. [sighs] It strikes Halo. >> Yeah. So, this is like >> an over $2,000 handheld. >> What a sick name. with a with a freaking like umbilical cord on it. Like it's [03:29:58] it's the least sensible like most outofouch device that I've probably used since the Vision Pro [laughter] >> which conveniently also had the same inconveniently, >> inconveniently enough that I don't think [03:30:13] >> Apparently topic cutting production back, which to me is a big surprise because I wouldn't have thought they were making them at all at this point. I plenty of inventory from their first >> I think there are some professional use [03:30:28] >> Cool. Good. >> But not very many. you played Expedition 33? >> No. >> nice >> because now we're [03:30:41] >> Uh my dad was putting baseboards in when I left the house today and they're being painted over the weekend and then things will be getting put back in place next week. Okay, cool. Anyway, not that you need me to endorse it given that it [03:30:56] practically swept the Game Awards. Um, but I am enjoying the crap out of it and I am uh I'm doing something kind of different and and fun with it. I am playing it in French, which >> I [03:31:09] >> am way I I need sub I need subtitles. >> Sure. But that's cool. >> But what I'm trying to do is I'm trying to understand the dialogue. >> And then I'm And I'm checking. And what's funny is the reason that I [03:31:21] started doing it was completely not for that. It was not to practice my French comprehension. It was because I like playing JRP or RPGs. Sorry. I like >> sorry. >> Well, I called it a JRPG. It's not [03:31:37] >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Um, but I like playing RPGs not with English dialogue. >> Isn't it Japanese style, not Japanese >> It is, but I don't know. Oh, there's a lot of Western influence in this one, [03:31:50] >> There's a lot of Japanese influence, but Yeah. No, I just eh I I I [laughter] >> Sure. Yeah. >> So, let's go with that. Got it. >> And so, I don't like English dialogue because I come from the RPG era where [03:32:06] everything was text and there was no voice acting. And when they added voice acting, that actually really like slowed down my [laughter] >> That's such a lightest problem, >> my ability to play the game. [laughter] [03:32:26] if they're going to if I'm going to skip through something. find it way less distracting if the dialogue is in I so I'll usually set it to Japanese because usually Japanese is an option. So if I want to So I played [03:32:41] Final Fantasy Tactics like this. I get to enjoy the original Japanese >> Yeah. >> With my English [snorts] comprehension sentence >> and it's not really going to affect you [03:32:53] >> and I'll never know the difference. So that was what I actually was setting out to do. I went to switch it to Japanese because I didn't know or care which like that's what I always do. I always just switch it to Japanese. [03:33:06] >> And then the first option was actually French. And I was like, "Oh yeah, >> Why don't I try that and I'll see if it like bothers me because I have a little bit of comprehension of it. I'll I'll see if it works the same way." And I [03:33:18] see if it works the same way." And I find French, no offense to Japanese, no offense [snorts] whatsoever, I find French to be a very beautiful language to just hear, more so than Japanese. Sorry. Sorry. My personal opinion. You [03:33:31] Sorry. Sorry. My personal opinion. You can ban me for it. Um, understood more than I thought I would. And I was like, "Okay, well, this is a don't I try to like pick up my French comprehension a little bit?" It's really [03:33:46] characters. >> Oh yeah. >> I can imagine. >> But with all of the playable characters so far, um there's a lot of like vocab that I'm missing. But it's [snorts] [03:34:00] >> I I think I've told you about this before, but the first time we went to think that was the first time I went to Germany for work. Um taken a little bit of German in high I was definitely not fluent, but I knew [03:34:15] some stuff and I could have like extremely basic conversations. Um, and lost most of that and there was there's no could converse with. So, it was just loss for years. [03:34:29] >> sure. Yeah, I can give you one of those. >> I can't anymore. Uh, which is part of went, it was very interesting because I could I could pick up on a lot. I could conversation even though I might not necessarily understand all the details [03:34:45] and right I could maybe order things at certain like restaurants and stuff like that. Um ask for the receipt do basic transactional stuff like that >> your best >> stuff like that. Yeah I could understand [03:34:57] numbers things like that. Uh [snorts] and then big gap in time I went there again. I was going to say this year but I guess last year. Um but but like not that long ago last year. And I had lost a bunch of it again. [03:35:12] >> Makes sense. But there was still definitely thing like he said Vgates definitely things where I can like pick up the general idea of what's happening stimulating. >> German probably has a word for that. [03:35:27] Like the the idea. [laughter] >> Yeah. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised. >> Um okay. Apparently, I will not be banned um for enjoying French as long as I don't watch anime in French. [03:35:41] >> Okay, [clears throat] seems fair enough. >> That that does seem that does seem >> I think that gets a pass. That seems fair enough. want to talk about next? >> Uh the smart test. True NAS. They're [03:35:54] ditching smart tests. >> Oh, yeah. I don't like it. And this is >> they say they're not reliable. Yet another reason that I backed Hexos is that I just so Truness's position is that you can just use a third party tool [03:36:08] for it. And that's cool. Um, but that's one of the reasons that Trunaz, which is great, and I'm so glad that it underpins Hexos investment disclosure. Um, but general consumers, it's and even proumers, it's just not something that I [03:36:24] can recommend with a straight face because unless you're you do this for fun or, you know, you already have to do it at work anyway, so you know how it all works, it's just not practical to administer for the average [03:36:40] enthusiast even. Uh, and if you are one of the people out there who considers totally administer Trudass and you love it, then congratulations. You're not an average enthusiast and that's fine. You're you're like really into it and [03:36:55] that's that's super cool and that's really great and here's a gold star for you. Um, but most of even the LTT community is not going to want to dig community is not going to want to dig through some of the arcane crap that [03:37:09] um, True NAS forces you to jump through sometimes to do very very seemingly simple things >> which you know again like you said you of the entertainment. >> Absolutely. [03:37:21] >> It might also not be. [laughter] [gasps] [gasps] >> Okay, I think we're done topic Dan. >> Okay, I think we're done topic Dan. Yippy dupy. [sighs] [03:37:38] Nice. What were people liking today? Were they picking up the new uh the new Were they picking up the new uh the new shirt or like Let's have a look. Bit set shirt or like Let's have a look. Bit set crash out shirt and uh bitset. Oh, bit [03:37:50] >> Oh, nice. Nice quality. >> All right. Got some messages here for you guys. Nice. >> Greeting. WAN.DL DLL from the UK. Question for Lionus about his hands-on with the steam frame. How well did the [03:38:03] with the steam frame. How well did the frame accommodate a large nose? Speaking of someone with a big old schnoz myself, pretty good, actually. Uh, I definitely need to spend some more time with it. I need to play longer sessions where I'm [03:38:18] want to >> Yeah, you had like no time. >> Yeah. And I look, I'm not I don't want to be a conspiracy theorist or whatever, but I think Valve did not want me to [snorts] make as deep a video as they [03:38:34] know that I will and that I did because >> would be true. I mean, unreasonable. >> No, but also then don't tell us everything. this was completely within your control to [03:38:50] transparent version of it that we could like see into like [laughter] you know like if you want to control the other ways to do it. >> God would be so sick if they sold that [03:39:02] >> other than forcing me to other than forcing me to have like not enough time forcing me to have like not enough time to do a good job. Anyway, I not the point. The point is that before I made a definitive statement on that, I would [03:39:14] definitive statement on that, I would really want to um play for longer sessions, especially in games where I'm moving around quite a lot because sometimes it's not obvious immediately, but little movements and jiggles can [03:39:27] kind of they can wear away, especially if they like really, you know, hit on the the hard parts right here. Uh or or here's an alternate answer. here's an alternate answer. My opinion is that it's [ __ ] [03:39:45] could be more valid than anyone else's because I've actually tried it. But I demonstrate a point. If you don't know, then you should just say you don't know. statements. >> Yeah. [03:39:58] >> Wait, I think I figured out a way to ban Lionus. >> from where? [snorts] [laughter] [03:40:13] >> See, I was imagining that he had some kind of like low color depth filter and I was going to be banned or something. >> Oh, I thought he was going to replace sitting there. >> Oh, that'd be pretty good, too. [03:40:26] he slid in the >> No, I don't have any plates. I moved the camera today. >> A mirror. Uh, I want new laptops, too. >> Can I even do that? >> I bet I bet you could figure that out. [03:40:41] >> That'd be kind of It' be kind of hard to watch, though. Uncomfortable. watch, though. Uncomfortable. >> I know how I could do that in in OBS. >> No, I just >> I'm going to have to ban you now. [03:40:54] know anything about it. >> Next [snorts] up, gearing up for the first plane trip. 13 hours with our 3-month-old because of a family >> Oh, double. Ooh. >> Oh, I wonder if you had some memorable [03:41:09] difficult things with the used tobe newborns. >> Oh, man. Yeah, we did uh we did a trip to Asia to see Von's family when my to Asia to see Von's family when my second was I think one or like one in [03:41:22] change. And um [clears throat] I wouldn't wish traveling with an infant or even a toddler honestly on anyone, not on long haul flights. Like if you're just doing a little one and you can just like zon them out on the iPad for a [03:41:37] couple of hours, that's probably fine. But as soon as you're getting over like [snorts] 4 hours on the plane, they get antsy. They get cranky. They don't they [03:41:49] don't know how to sleep. They don't let you sleep. like it's just a recipe for you sleep. like it's just a recipe for misery, man. I uh I'm I'm sorry for whatever you're going through in your family emergency, and I'm double sorry [03:42:03] now that you are uh having to take a 3-month-old traveling with you. And I think that like I I had someone like profusely apologizing to me for their were like right in front of me. And I was like, "Bro, [03:42:24] have to >> You don't want to be here either. I know you don't want to be here 10 times as much as I don't want you here." So, like, you know, if I don't want to deal with that, [03:42:39] >> it used to bother me a bunch and then eventually I just accepted we're all cattle in a tube dealing with our own problems. And you just got to you got to seat area that you have. Make it the [03:42:52] variables around you and get through to the other end. It's really not that check bag fee or what >> for the child? [laughter] >> A little crate. >> Yeah, what [laughter] about with the the [03:43:08] cats or the parrots or whatever? Um, all right. Let's see. Uh, is it is it is a natural monopoly in a high barrier of entry industry like a bad thing? In the case of ASML, it seems more of a reward for technological innovation, which [03:43:25] for technological innovation, which incentivizes innovation. So when Luke and I say monopoly bad, competition good, our perspective is as [03:43:37] competition good, our perspective is as consumer aligned representatives from the media. Does that kind of make sense? And in general, I think that we have benefited more in our lives from competition than from um [03:43:55] successful [snorts] companies monopolizing their industries. Um, I would also say that even if that disproportionate or maybe even not even [03:44:09] disproportionate, even if that high reward could incentivize others to try to compete during that time of one ring ruling them [03:44:21] all and others attempting but failing to compete is a bad time for consumers that compete is a bad time for consumers that just didn't need to exist if there was [03:44:33] always competition the whole way through. So yes, I can see the whole way through. So yes, I can see your argument that it is good to have a really big reward for really big investment and ingenuity and [03:44:49] perseverance. But from a consumer standpoint, that is not the ideal situation. And we would rather have more than one competitor in any given space. >> Yeah, [03:45:06] >> What was the what was the core question? >> Um, >> can you not see the merit in a in a in a monopoly like ASML? Because [03:45:18] >> the huge reward for winning the entire market should incentivize others to chase that huge reward. That's okay. I think you already answered it. I wasn't fully paying attention, but I mean, [snorts] [03:45:33] >> that's literally an argument for competition, but anyways, competition, but anyways, [laughter] >> Wa! >> Video is amazing. Are you all keeping up [03:45:47] with your diving? And what animals or locations are still on the bucket list? I have not used it like practically at all. I think the last time I went was diving with Dennis on Mexico workation. [03:46:01] >> I was going to say I'm pretty sure I'm more up to date than you. I might be further certed than you at this point. >> I think I'm only open water. >> Okay. Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah. And I honestly don't know if I [03:46:14] really care about that because even with open water, you can do a wreck dive as long as your dive master is certed to guide open water divers on a wreck dive. guide open water divers on a wreck dive. You can do a deep dive even if the as [03:46:26] it. Like I don't >> I could be wrong about this. Do not take this as a quote. I think there are still slightly different uh limitations, I guess. Oh, and actually now that I think about it, when we did that, we were [03:46:40] taking our advanced open water. So maybe that was the context of it. We Ivonne and I like passed our advanced open water, but we were like, you didn't teach us anything. >> We just went on a bunch. We did it in [03:46:54] here in Vancouver and then we did our just like took us on a bunch of advanced dives. We're like, we're supposed to stuff. like you didn't show us any of this. We just followed you around and [03:47:08] I'm like no I am worried about that. I don't want a certific certificate that I >> I was concerned about this but did my advanced open water in Greece >> and uh it was actually awesome. The dude was like pretty hardcore about like [03:47:22] you're going to do this right. Um when we were doing the knot tying stuff he >> Oh that's cool. >> Cuz he was like you might get >> Yeah. >> There might be a problem. you might [03:47:35] closed. >> You might be on a night dive. >> So, there might be a variety of variables. You need to be able to do it with your eyes closed. And he also made me do underwater nav um [03:47:49] me do underwater nav um with no references other than kicks. >> I had to track. >> So, there was one like pair of Yeezys >> So, there was one like pair of Yeezys [laughter] [03:48:04] >> H basically I had to be able to get back. We'd like swim up to a certain point and then I had to be able to go in like uh a square in basically any direction and end up back where I started and I wasn't allowed to have [03:48:17] whatever. I had to do it all just with kicks. Um and it was not He purposely brought us to unclear water. >> Right. And was there >> uh I think we did that at one point. >> Yeah. Um, and he t I don't remember the [03:48:34] to like try to do that a little bit better. And he was like, you know, it's not going to be perfect, but if you're trying to get back to a boat, you can kind of use this information to help you get back to a boat. Um, [03:48:47] but yeah, he was awesome, actually. Yeah. with confidence. What do you try to do as a mentor and boss to help people [03:49:02] grow? What was your favorite teachable moment? Oh man, this is a heavy question. I mean, I don't >> You might not be able to say >> I don't think that I'm uh I'm a business [03:49:15] mentor necessarily. I'm I'm just I'm fumbling my way through this [snorts] school of hard knocks. I didn't go to business school. I um I don't know, man. [03:49:27] And a lot of the stuff that we do is not best practice. every business. >> I just I just mean we do not like [03:49:40] optimize a lot of the time. [laughter] >> We do we do need to do a bit more optimizing. optimization. >> I mean look I I wrote how does LMG spend [03:49:52] money this week? Um, >> and it definitely you learn things in that process? >> 100%. It hardcore flagged for me things [03:50:05] >> 100%. It hardcore flagged for me things that are going to need to be optimized. Um, actually, uh, here, let me see. There was, um, Chewy put together some [03:50:18] Why can I never find people when I'm looking for them? There it is. Yeah, Chewy put together some stuff like basically uh we've made a lot of decisions as we've been rapidly growing that like [snorts] made sense in [03:50:31] >> Um but now that we're not >> no longer do >> rapidly growing do not necessarily make sense anymore. Um we've accumulated a sense anymore. Um we've accumulated a lot of process debt. um we've [03:50:45] accumulated a lot of sort of band-aid solutions that again made sense at the time but probably don't make sense now. Um, [snorts] >> lots of those. >> We Something that I don't really talk [03:50:59] about in detail in the how does LMG spend money because it's meant to be moment in time rather than a look at trends is that um as we've expanded our payroll and we'll we'll talk about this part in more detail in the uh uh in the [03:51:15] video. as we've as we've looked at um improving our compensation overall, we improving our compensation overall, we have scaled comp in a way that is not in line with our revenue scaling. >> Um and that's been going on for a fairly [03:51:30] extended period of time now, like on the order of years. Um Um, you know, we've been we're we're kind of we're back to a more sustainable [03:51:43] sort of overall viewership, but with that said, the YouTube game is getting more cutthroat. You can upload it used to be that if you uploaded a banger it. And if you uploaded a total downer video, you might get 1 million views. [03:51:58] Now, your banger video might hit 3 million, 4 million, but your downer video might get 400,000. So you don't have that same predictable >> Yeah. a little bit more >> floor. It's down in the basement now. Um [03:52:12] harder to sell to sponsors. That's harder to capitalize on for yourself. ltstore.com or something like that and the video that we have that goes up difference in performance when it's a half a million view video versus if it's [03:52:28] like a 2 3 million view banger, right? Um, expenditures, they get the most attention, right? Like when we buy a firetruck or we buy a big LED wall or we buy like a [03:52:43] chamber thing. >> Yeah. Or a three-stage chiller from Fugger or whatever. Um, capital expenditures are under 1% of our spend. >> So, you know, >> that's a weird bucket to define though. [03:52:57] >> Well, yeah. It's how you define it. So we define a lot of what some companies might call capex would be we we have under sort of an umbrella that we call >> And so so for us we defined our capital expenditures as um sort of outlier [03:53:14] purchases particularly for content or [snorts] for or for product testing. Um, so, you know, looking at it like those are all videos that performed well or are all videos that performed well or series of videos that um will will [03:53:28] perform well over time, right? Um, and it's just it's a lot of little things that you only really notice when you write it down and when you like graph it and [snorts] start to really look at it and go like, "Okay, now hold [03:53:42] on a second." like does this make sense for how much it contributes to the business? Does this make sense for how much it contributes to the business up or [snorts] down in in any case? So, it's the kind of thing that when you're [03:53:57] just Yeah. when you're when you're building the plane as you're flying it, you don't really look at it that closely. But, we've had um a couple closely. But, we've had um a couple years now of lower production targets. [03:54:10] >> but >> I think they have. I think they just so long. >> We used to have like 100ish people. We >> We used to have like 100ish people. We are now up to like 120 people. And um we [03:54:25] used to do six LTTS a week plus W show plus two tech quickies plus three tech links plus two game links plus two to four short circuits plus um shoot [03:54:39] channel super Oh yeah know channel super fun did overlap with that schedule for a while. Plus a channel super fun. Um shoot I'm sure I'm missing something. What am I missing? Oh yeah, plus MAC address whenever that got uploaded. Um, [03:54:55] and our headcount has not appreciably changed in this time that we've been doing anywhere from realistically about three and a half LTTs a week is what we've been averaging. Uh, we completely hiatused Techquiki, completely hiatus [03:55:11] game linked, completely hiatus MAC address. Um, did I already say techquicki. >> Sure. Um, [snorts] >> and people [03:55:23] feel very like overworked and I don't think that they're necessarily just like lying about that. >> So that then leans back to what we were >> what are we doing? >> Yeah. Process overhead. Where's where's [03:55:38] >> What are we spending our time on? this engine has a lot of energy waste in in potentially variety of areas. >> So, I think that's um I think that's [03:55:50] something that we're going to be reflecting on heavily over the next >> Anyway, you guys can expect that video probably a little bit after CES. I think Elijah I saw him uh turning through the guidance for it. Um that's kind of [03:56:06] that's kind of getting to be a bit of a like superpower of his. like he did the that we uploaded earlier this week and I thought he just uh him and uh who was brain. >> Um [03:56:22] hold on I'm trying to remember. I think it might have been Kendrick. I'm going to double check though because I don't want to give credit to the wrong people. So this video really cool video. [03:56:34] Seriously though, shout out the ECC squad. You guys rock. Uh, hold on. squad. You guys rock. Uh, hold on. Here's the regular credits. Kendrick was the editor. Um, so yeah, between him and um and Andrew and [03:56:51] Kendrick, I thought they just did a really good job of maintaining really cohesive visuals throughout it that made it really engaging. I thought they Yeah, just did an outstanding job. Technically, I don't know this because I [03:57:04] am actually, you know, not the one who determines once and for all if a video is good. Um, you guys get to decide that. I haven't actually looked at the that. I haven't actually looked at the retention for it, but to me, it felt [03:57:16] retention for it, but to me, it felt like a very pleasant short watch relative to its runtime. And that's usually a pretty solid indicator. I've been doing this for a while and I usually um have a decent sense, but I [03:57:28] Yeah, >> not even not at all. Could not claim that. I could try to claim that, but then I'd be a big liar. Yeah, [snorts] >> Nice. >> Yep. [03:57:43] >> Yep. >> Yeah. So, good job, guys. Hey, LLD got the wife interested in the tech house series. What ideas do you have for spouse approved/hidden tech? Going to be following and upgrading [03:57:56] along the way. Thanks for the amazing content. I mean, a big one is um I think we're going to be getting a lot better at wiring and cable management [03:58:08] better at wiring and cable management because I'm a big fan of >> eliminating batteries and wireless technology from my life >> and I'd like to find ways to do things as wired as possible while maintaining [03:58:21] really strong >> spouse approval factor. So, this is a a bit of a derail, but part of the my place will be kind of fresh plan is that I want to have some self-hosted IoT things going on and some other stuff [03:58:35] happening uh for once. And one of the problems that I've ran into that, you it before the tech house, I guess. But where our computers are going to be now, [03:58:47] there's a cat 5e through the wall. That cable in the wall. I'm still haven't done the testing cuz again I've been focused on [snorts] other grander stuff, but it could be Yeah, that too. It could be um the the short cable going from [03:59:03] router to patch instead of the cable through the wall. But I think it's a might be messed up. [sighs] >> The second a significant load happens, my computer like gets blinking Ethernet cable and I lose all networking. [03:59:17] >> Hopefully. Hopefully, but I don't know. So, I might >> gonna learn to fish that cable. >> Nice. Solid. [03:59:29] into like Oh, here's a new project that I've never had to try to figure out how >> and [snorts] you're finally going to finish it and then you're going to go, >> Time to move. >> Maybe it's time to [laughter] [03:59:42] >> Yeah, I've been I've been uh rather aware of that. [laughter] >> Yeah. No comment. That's uh that's your thing to figure out in terms of your >> Yeah. >> But uh yeah, [clears throat] cool. [03:59:55] >> You have access to both ends. You can just pull a new Yeah, I know. My problem >> Yeah, it depends on if it's like stapled to the studs and stuff, too. Like to the studs and stuff, too. Like >> So, I don't know that. Um and it's it's [04:00:10] >> So, I don't know that. Um and it's it's very far from reasonable angles and stuff and seeing how this place was put together. It'll either be just draped there and easy to do because no one cared to do it properly or it'll be [04:00:22] like, oh, I don't know, 17 staples in one spot for no apparent reason. >> Um, so we'll see. >> Oh, here's a quick one. Uh, the Pebble round two >> was apparently just announced. [04:00:34] >> That looks good. >> Yeah, it looks actually pretty sick. >> I get it though. That's very funny. >> Round two. right. All right. >> [snorts] [04:00:47] >> All right, that's all. As a former Kioxia employee, I was amazed to see the Fab Tour you got. Surprising they let you see more than I could working there. [04:00:59] liked it and what's next? >> Hopefully more is next. I love doing that kind of thing. And yeah, I was I was very impressed and pleased with the amount of access that we were able to get. Uh it was a battle to get as much [04:01:14] access as we did. I can tell you that um we had a meeting with as many as I think it was like 20 people in the room and another 20 on the call um sort of day after our first day of shooting. And like to to be clear, I don't mean this [04:01:31] in like a disrespectful way or like an antagonistic way. Um these sorts of things are always kind of a battle. Um, >> yeah, >> because these are closely guarded corporate secrets that have never been [04:01:47] talked about or seen before. Like, like to your point, you could work there and not see things that we saw. And so, I understand why they're a little ky about people aren't allowed to like bring their phone in and because they might [04:02:01] snap a picture here and there and we're walking around with a full kit, right? and it [snorts] was incredible and I'd love to do more of it if there's other companies that, you know, want to want [04:02:15] to chop through all the red tape that's involved in getting us that kind of access so that we can bring people along for the ride and help them really appreciate what it is that you guys are doing over there, then we're we're super [04:02:28] down. I love it. Oh, I haven't seen it yet, but apparently Veritassium did a really cool video this week on ASML's um this I've not seen it. Is it good? That's cool. Does he like go there? [04:02:42] >> And they go into some really technical details and it's just awesome. He did a phenomenal job. >> Uh last one I've got for you today. Hey Luke, heard that getting tips from Wendell on building an LLM server. Would [04:02:57] there be a chance to follow along with your home lab journey? >> I don't know. Maybe. I I'm starting to question its feasibility [laughter] >> I've got a couple you can borrow if you want. [04:03:10] >> Yeah, we'll see. I definitely I So, I've got a variety of goals. Um got a variety of goals. Um but yeah, we'll we'll see how this stuff gets sorted out over time. There's like um I [04:03:25] time. So, I really want to actually do it because I don't want to be like into it and not look into it myself. That seems lame. >> I don't really know where you're coming where you're getting at with this. You [04:03:38] have a variety of what? And that has to do with a local AI AI server. >> Galls. >> Goals. Goals. Goals. >> You said goals. >> Okay. [laughter] [04:03:52] >> he's only got one sinus. Leave me alone. >> Yeah, really. Um, sorry. >> But yeah, I've been having a bunch of fun watching Yeah. Jeff Gearling and Wendell and and other people's stuff. I [04:04:04] I've wanted to do home laby things for a long time. Um, so this is going to be my my dive into that both on the networking and the server side of things. I want to do in a lot of cases self-developed, in some cases just self-hosted IoT things. [04:04:21] I want to do some self-hosted services. I want to have my own um home video distribution um instead of just borrowing others. Um I there's a lot of >> You'd be [snorts] crazy not to buy it. >> God, man. [04:04:38] Um >> Oh, no. >> But uh I mean, my family does like this holiday Valheim server. We've This is the second year in a row that we've done it. Um, but it's like the the thing the [04:04:51] solution that we've had is like kind of instable and lags a lot and there's issues with it. So like if I could just host that myself lot of things where I'm like this is honestly very overdue. [04:05:04] >> Um, so I'm trying to start figuring it out, but going from zero to the point that I want to be at is like a lot. So I'm trying to research and learn things this realm. Old Tom [snorts] asks, "How often do you [04:05:19] think of the Roman Empire?" These days, for reasons that I don't really feel like I need to get into. Kind of a lot. [laughter] [04:05:31] We'll see you again next week. Same bad time, same bad channel. [laughter] time, same bad channel. [laughter] Bye.
