[00:00] There's no way. There's no way Crunchyroll is serious about this, right? [00:13] There's no way. There's no way Crunchyroll is actually committing this much resources to fighting back against piracy instead of doing a very simple solution. [00:25] Just do what Steam does. Offer a better service. Why are you going through such loops and hoops just to do a worse way of handling this than what Steam does? Steam just offers a very good business model, and if you replicated what they did, then people wouldn't pirate as much. [00:47] Like, this is so crazy. Like, let me read this to you. Crunchyroll has been looking to strengthen its fight against anime piracy since at least July, looking for a vice president, content protection, and anti-piracy. [01:01] The role calls for 15 plus years of experience in content protection, anti-piracy, DRM, CRM, trust and safety, or IP enforcement with senior leadership experience in global streaming, [01:17] media, or entertainment. Credential and thinking someone who can build and lead a global anti-piracy strategy, oversee investigations, and enforce operations, manage external partners, and work across legal, [01:33] product, engineering, security, and trust and safety. The position also requires deep knowledge of copyright law, DMCA processes, online piracy, and enforcement platforms such as YouTube, Content ID, MetaLife Manager, and Google TCRP. [01:52] A major focus will be evaluating new technologies, including AI-enabled enforcement, world-developing KPIs, and analytics to measure effectiveness and business impact. impact. So, [02:05] Crunchyroll is putting all these resources into this instead of just doing something very simple. Which, you know what? I'm gonna do it. [02:17] I'm gonna list what Crunchyroll could do that would actually combat piracy more than what they're doing right now. First off, return comments to your sites. That's the first thing you can do. Just return [02:29] comments to your site. The second thing you can do. The next thing. You can let see here Okay better translations better translations very very simple very very simple [02:43] You can have, let's see, no Zoomer translations, like, stop changing translations. I mean, better translations and Zoomer translations kind of fall together, but still, it needs to be said. [02:57] Then we have, let's say, um, a better UI, better UI similar to Piracy Sites, right, you can just do a better UI similar to Piracy Sites, because, like, there's a reason why people like, like, Hyena, like, you know, browser, it's just good, it works, you can find what you want to look for, or new things, Crunchyroll's entire browser just sucks ass, it's not good at all, it's like, you can look at a Piracy Site and see what they're doing. [03:24] um another one actually you know this is a really good one prior um fan translators uh yeah that that that's what you can do like you you don't like like your current translations like people don't like the translations why don't you go for these fan translation groups that are doing [03:40] everything for free that really are passionate about what they work on and hire them hire them to make money that could easily help with the whole issue up above with translations and stuff I mean, also, you know what, do this, hire the Pirate Seat site UI creator. [03:57] The person that is creating the Pirate Seat site UI and just all that, like, hire them to operate and manage your site. That's what you can do to make it even better. We also have Be Transparent. Like, I mean, you can easily be transparent about, like, everything. [04:11] Like, I mean, Crutchwell is just a stone wall that refuses to be transparent about any of their issues. I mean, like, anytime there's a problem, they just will not say anything. I mean, they leave, like, episodes that have, like, no translations or anything when there's a mistake for literally days until people complain enough. [04:29] I mean, you can get better servers, get better cloud servers. I mean, like, their server goes down if there's even remotely a little bit of hype on an episode. Their entire site just basically crashes, which is unacceptable for one of the biggest platforms for streaming anime series in the West. [04:45] So it's just unacceptable. Let's see. admit you tried to sweep the data breach. Like, yeah, so for those that don't recall, back earlier this year, [04:58] Crunchyroll had a massive data breach, and they tried to sweep it under the rug, act like it didn't happen, and they had a report to admit it, where things got a little bit dicey, but they, this goes back into the transparency thing, but they literally [05:10] tried to sweep a data breach under the rug and reassure people that yeah it didn happen we didn lose your information They did They lost your credit card and stuff like that Let see here Re-add free tier. [05:23] Yeah, like, for those that don't know, re-add your free tier. They removed the free tier, like, plan for Crunchyroll, like, at the end of last year. And then after that, they decided to literally increase their subscription prices. [05:36] So let's do that. Lower sub prices. obviously not going to do this, but you do that, you add a free tier, you already have better, you know what, I would even throw this in, you know what, this is one that consumers might not [05:50] like, but add more ads if you add free tier, just make the free tier have a lot of freaking ads, there you go, just do a YouTube-like system, there is a lot of things that Crunchyroll can do here [06:04] that is so much better than whatever the hell this is. Like, what do you mean you're dedicating all these resources into this type of situation instead of addressing the real reason why people are pissed with you? [06:18] Like, I mean, there's so many things I could talk about, to the whole fan mail debacle that was being stolen fan mail, to your voice actors that are politically captured and will literally be like a mafia to excommunicate everyone from a group if they don't fall in line. [06:33] you are legitimately such a terrible company, how you operate. There is so many examples that I've talked about over the years, and doing something like this is just so astonishing to me that you would dedicate so many resources to this [06:47] when you could just do what Steam does. Literally just replicate what Steam does as a company. They literally are just consumer-friendly. They literally listen to the consumer. [06:59] They try their best to basically offer a good service. And as Gabe says himself, you know, basically, it's not a piracy issue, it's a service issue. And if these, uh, Life vs. Crutchfield decided to offer a better service, a better plan, I mean, oh yeah, and you know what, I'm forgetting another one. [07:17] The, um, the actual physical media. Um, add back physical media. Yeah, the whole store. Remember? The whole store thing. I don't know how I forgot that. The whole store thing. I mean, stop buying companies just to kill them off. [07:35] Like so. Very good example. Like, they buy their rival companies off just to kill them. I mean, look, I'm adding a lot of solutions here. And it's just like, dude, Crunchyroll, there is a lot of ways you can handle this instead of doing what you're doing here. [07:49] Like I mean I feel like this is some really solid advice which I think that if they wanted to take anything away from this if they wanted to use any of the advice I think hiring fan translators would be one of the biggest ways to build good PR [08:01] Like, let me give a good example of why that would be good PR. Of course, you don't have to like their message, but they were a piracy site. They started off as a piracy site. They were not official. They were doing a lot of illegal shit. And eventually, they got lucky and became official. [08:14] and if they were to reach a hand out to fan translators that are dedicated fans of certain series they translate that would actually be a good PR move it'd be like them saying we understand [08:27] how it is to not be official to not be legally licensed so we want to give you that ability to be a legal operation to be able to legally translate things and to make money on it as well for your very good and passionate work because you easily do something like that that would [08:43] instantly cut out so many unnecessary, like, Zoomer translations to the politics that are shoved into translations, just people that are dedicated fans that want to translate [08:55] it properly, they could easily do that, but they refuse to, and it would be just such good PR, that alone would be massive PR, not including the other stuff with the stores and killing off companies, like, they could do just so much to bridge the gap, but they [09:09] won't, and it's just like, it's insane that they're spending so much money like this, all this money to combat piracy when they can just do the steam model just do what steam does crunch your roll if you do what steam does you offer a good service piracy won't be as lucrative [09:24] anymore because people like convenience people like the ability of convenience and a good service and there is a reason why steam has been just so successful for two plus decades is because it is consumer friendly so you constantly doing anti-consumer stuff and trying to push as much [09:40] money, squeezing money from a stone is insane to me, like, it is just so unbelievably crazy how much you guys have lost the plot, and you legit are just such a bad company, you [09:53] really are, it's such a greedy, evil, scummy company that can easily do something good for the community to actually be able to be praised, I would praise you if you did something good, I would, I mean, the only good thing that I think I could praise you at the moment [10:07] nowadays, is that you have a rating system. You have a thumbs up and thumbs down for individual episodes, which is insane that we have reached the bottom of the barrel that low. That is the only thing I can praise nowadays. [10:19] That it is crazy that that is the only thing. But here we are. So I'm gonna leave it at that. Just wanted to talk about this because this was insane. But be safe, stay healthy. Love you guys. [10:31] Chibi out.
