[00:00] But why exactly does it happen? A fitness plateau in a general sense, is simply when your progress towards a fitness goal significantly slows down or comes to a complete stop. [00:14] For this video, though, we're going to focus that we're still doing seemingly all the right things to promote progress. This is a sign that physiological changes are occurring in response [00:29] to progression itself, which in my opinion is the truest form of a plateau. dealing with injuries or age related limitations won't be the focus here. So with that in mind, let's get started. [00:45] to physiological changes that occur in response to progression. we tend to see the most rapid development, which is commonly referred those newbie gains will come to an end and progression slows down. [01:02] Well, our bodies and muscles are actually very sensitive to any new form of training stimuli which allows for greater adaptations, thus greater development. And in the beginning, everything we do is essentially new stimuli. [01:17] when we start lifting weights. But over time, as with most things we do over and over again, the body starts becoming desensitized to the training and require even more stimuli [01:30] We'll also experience fewer muscle tears, which is generally a good thing, the tears actually produces quite a lot of muscle growth. the primary physiological process that drives muscle growth. [01:46] leading to slower neuromuscular development. We then see slower strength gains. Ultimately, the desensitization leads to significant drops in progression [01:59] leading to our first genuine physiological plateau. this first plateau at around 6 to 12 weeks of consistent training. we can still make plenty of progress even without newbie gains. [02:15] However, beyond this point, we'll likely run into even bigger plateaus. This is where we start experiencing genetic limitations. our bodies are genetically programed to actively avoid too much progress. [02:29] maintaining nonstop progression is actually a very inefficient way It's also very metabolically demanding just to maintain [02:41] So in order to preserve our body's resources, And when we get closer to the ceiling, mechanisms that limit progress become more active. [02:55] Now, at the moment, researchers have yet to identify the precise process how to identify anyone's personal genetic ceiling. greater physiological limitations the further we progress. [03:09] This is where we see even greater reductions to muscle protein synthesis inhibitor of a critical anabolic pathway known as mTOR. some sort of mechanism that can sense its own size. [03:25] believe it will then send out signals to prevent further growth. our bodies don't always feel the same way, which ultimately means [03:38] And the worst part is that it's genetically predetermined. So there's nothing we can possibly do about it legally.
