# The 7 Levels of Anime Power Scaling Explained

> Source: [The 7 Levels of Anime Power Scaling Explained](https://youtube.com/watch?v=SDEJRQ1qnqY)

## Summary

This video breaks down anime characters into seven power levels, from weaklings to omnipotent beings, using examples like Shinji Ikari, Ryuji, Hercule Satan, Yuji Itadori, Naruto and Sasuke, Goku and Vegeta, and Zeno.

### Key Points

- **Level 1: Weaklings** [00:23] — Characters weaker than average humans, like Shinji Ikari, who lack combat abilities and often serve as comedic relief or emotional support.
- **Level 2: Average Humans** [01:54] — Most humans in anime, with no special training or powers, like Ryuji from Toradora. They fight everyday challenges, not world-ending threats.
- **Level 3: Peak Realistic Human** [02:47] — Characters at the peak of possible real-world human ability through extreme training, like Hercule Satan (in his own verse) and Levi Ackerman (without gear).
- **Level 4: Powered Humans** [04:03] — Superhuman characters with abilities beyond reality, like Yuji Itadori using cursed energy, Midoriya, and pre-time skip Straw Hat Pirates.
- **Level 5: Planet Busters** [05:28] — Characters capable of destroying planets, like Six Paths Naruto and Rinnegan Sasuke, and Krillin (Dragon Ball Super) due to the series' high power scaling.
- **Level 6: Universal Threats** [08:22] — Characters who can destroy universes, like Goku and Vegeta with transformations like Ultra Instinct, and Saitama.
- **Level 7: Omnipotence** [09:44] — Beings beyond physical metrics, like Zeno who can erase universes with a gesture, and the Anti-Spiral.

### Conclusion

Anime power scaling has clear levels, from weak humans to omnipotent gods, with Dragon Ball characters dominating the higher tiers.

We've all seen the debates. Goku vs.
Saitama, Naruto vs. Luffy. But when we
introduce characters powerful enough to
delete timelines, as we'll see later,
you learn there really is levels to
this. When we break it down, what
characters really are the most powerful
of them all? What characters strongest
in their own verse look like side
characters compared to others? Where
will your favorite character rank? Join
me today as we break this down and
discover the seven levels of anime
power.
Level one, weaklings. Starting at level
one here, this is the weakest of the
weak. Behind every planet-busting
Saiyan, god-level being, and
universe-saving superhero is a crowd of
people who need that saving. Characters
on this level are weaker than the
average human. Whereas these characters
might have brilliant minds or emotional
support, maybe even comedic relief, or
have any of the other redeeming
qualities, you put them in a boxing ring
with Hobo Dave over here and you better
hope there's no spare change in their
pockets he can steal once he knocks them
out. A perfect example of this level is
Shinji Ikari from Neon Genesis
Evangelion. Obviously, outside of the
Eva. Shinji's a kid. He's also not in a
verse where humans have any sort of
special powers. He's barely 2 years into
his teenage years, and if you round up,
probably only 110 lb soaking wet.
Whereas he is chosen as an Eva pilot due
to his compatibility, the most athletic
thing I've seen him do is fall while
playing Twister. On top of this, he's
fighting off breakdowns every 5 minutes,
earning Shinji the coveted spot of
poster boy for this level. But hey,
against what many might think, there's
nothing wrong with being on this level.
Without level one characters, beings in
the higher levels would be less
impressive, so we have them to thank for
that. Some other examples of this
include Coby from the beginning of One
Piece, Okarun from the beginning of
Dandadan, this bunny girl from Beastars,
and these anime babies. I also want to
add in farmer from the beginning of
Dragon Ball Z, minus the shotgun, of
course. What's your power level, little
human?
Five, huh? PROTECT ME, GOOD.
HEY, NO. BAD HUMAN.
DAMN IT, I'M GOING TO BUSH.
BAD. NOW, get back up and tell me you're
sorry.
Human?
Human.
Level two, average humans. On the level
two, we come across the most saturated
level, that being the average human
power level. No intense training, no
special gimmicks, no quirky powers, no
ki or inner energy, this level is where
most humans reside. 99% of us in real
life would fall into this tier. Examples
of this level can be found in every
anime. Background characters, side
characters, and even most main
characters if you look past shonen,
you'll find them here. These characters
aren't fighting to save the world,
they're fighting their alarm clocks and
homework due dates. My pick for the lead
of this level is Ryuji from Toradora.
Ryuji doesn't do any fighting throughout
his anime. In fact, this guy's the one
taking the beating most of the time. At
least that shows his durability. Ryuji
is strong enough to weather a snowstorm
and carry Taiga on his back. So, this
earns him a solid spot in the average
human tier. Others on this level include
Kaguya Shinomiya from Love is War, Light
Yagami from Death Note, and even Tanjiro
Kamado from Demon Slayer.
Before training, of course.
Level three. Peak realistic human
ability. On our next level is the peak
of power that could be achievable in the
real world, albeit borderline
impossible. Just absurd amounts of
discipline, talent, and years of
training. My favorite example for this
level is Mr. Hercule Satan. Well, well,
well. I hear what some of you are
probably screaming at me for right now.
Mr. Satan, isn't his gag about being
weak? And to that I say, yes, but he's
weak for the Dragon Ball verse. Compared
to Goku, Mr. Satan loses to his aura
alone. Police officer Krillin? Yeah, Mr.
Satan is toast. But compared to other
non-ki trained humans, Mr. Satan clears.
Unless saiyan, child saiyan, ki trained
human, android, or evil sea cucumbers
are present, this guy is winning the
World Martial Arts Tournament, which is
a one-on-one tournament featuring the
strongest fighter from across the world.
Also, don't forget, he was the one who
beat Perfect Cell. Despite it not being
realistic as this level's title
suggests, I would also throw lower level
characters who make up for their power
gap from the top of this tier with
powers. Nothing crazy, of course, just
small boosts that help them level the
playing field. I'm thinking of someone
like Mineta from My Hero Academia. He's
far from a master of martial arts,
doesn't have years of training, yet his
sticky ball quirk can help him close the
power gap with someone like Hercule.
Other than him in this level, I would
include Ayanakoji from Classroom of the
Elite. And at the peak of this tier,
Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan,
minus his swords and ODM gear, of
course.
Level four, powered humans.
This is the first level where the
fictional properties of anime can bring
us to a level of power that non-fiction
simply cannot touch. The characters in
this tier are superhuman plus. While
humans at their core, abilities,
transformations, supernatural boosts,
and other things of that nature,
alongside their training, push them into
this tier. This is the level where
characters start to feel like
superheroes. My choice for the face of
this tier is none other than Yuji
Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen. At the
beginning of JJK, Yuji is an
athletically gifted person, but at the
end of the day, still a high school kid.
After getting a boost in power from
Sukuna's fingers, he's able to achieve
power past that what of a regular human
could do due to his new ability to
access and utilize cursed energy. Using
cursed energy reinforcement, Yuji is
able to increase his speed, strength,
durability, and other physical stats,
putting him easily above what is
achievable by normal humans. Now, as we
go along, I want you to know that there
are scales within these levels. Not
everyone on this level, or any level for
that matter, is going to be equal in
power. Especially as we get into the
weeds of different versions of
characters and all that. Just keep this
in mind. Do you think a character I
mentioned belongs on a different tier?
Did I miss one of your favorites? Make
sure to comment that down below. And
hey, while you're down there typing out
your comments, please make sure you
subscribe as only 2% of you watching
are. Thank you. Now, back to level four,
there are a lot of characters that fit
in here. I would include the likes of
Midoriya and some of his strongest
classmates from My Hero Academia, Gon
and Killua from Hunter x Hunter, and the
Straw Hat Pirates pre-time skip,
emphasis on pre-time skip, from One
Piece.
Level five, planet busters. As we move
further and further into our more
powerful characters, level five is where
things really get serious. Whereas these
characters are not on universal
destruction or even god level, this is
where we first get into our planet
busters. These characters are on the
power level of threatening planetary
destruction. From attacks so fast they
can't be observed by the human eye. To
durability so fortified they could have
buildings crash down on them and still
come out scratch free. To strength so
large it's planet busting. Despite all
this hyping up, these characters are on
level five for a reason and not higher.
Despite how crazy it sounds, there are
larger tests of strengths out there than
the ability to destroy a singular
planet. These characters still have
limits. Whether it be stamina,
abilities, or just straight up skill,
there are still levels to this. The
characters the front man for this level
is six path sage mode Naruto and
Rinnegan Sasuke. Basically the strongest
version of these characters from
Shippuden. Hyped up on insane levels of
nine tail chakra from the strongest of
the tailed beast, as well as the six
paths sage mode granted by one of the
Naruto versus most powerful beings.
Alongside a Sasuke who has access to the
Rinnegan, the most powerful of the
Uchiha jutsu, as well as his perfect
Susanoo, a giant power ranger type robot
looking suit made out of pure energy.
These two fight and beat what is
essentially the god level being in their
own verse. Now alongside them, I want to
throw in Krillin from Dragon Ball Super
specifically into this tier. Whoa, whoa,
whoa. Stop yelling and stop typing out
that hate comment and listen. I know
those of you who haven't seen Dragon
Ball, or maybe even some of you who
have, are fuming. Krillin? The human
with no transformations? The one who is
essentially the laughing stock of the
Dragon Ball verse? Behind Yamcha? Yep,
the Dragon Ball universe in general is
just on a whole 'nother level of power.
Even all the way back to the beginning
of Dragon Ball Z, we had characters on
this planetary level. Vegeta, Nappa are
obvious examples, but look even just at
Piccolo here who is weaker than Goku. He
destroys the moon with one key blast
just to stop Gohan's transformation. Now
many people point out this scene as
being an outlier in early Dragon Ball
power leveling, and that's probably
true. But this was still early Dragon
Ball Z where everyone was way weaker
than they are now. Krillin has spent his
whole life training, minus some years he
took off for police officer duty, but
he's still strong enough to keep up with
base form Goku way later on in Dragon
Ball Super. He's also chosen as one of
the 10 strongest Universe 7 fighters for
the Tournament of Power, and he's not
even the weakest in that lineup. And if
we want to talk abilities, Krillin has
arguably the most hacks ability in all
of Dragon Ball. That being the Kienzan
or Destructo Disc. Most energy blasts in
Dragon Ball are about overwhelming your
opponent with immense amounts of ki.
Krillin's just slices you in half, even
opponents multiple times stronger than
him. Just look at Vegeta telling Nappa
not to get hit by this blast, even
though Nappa was toying with him just
seconds before. I will say that the
opponent can't be way out of his league,
or the blast will have no effect on
their strong, thick,
meaty perfect
uh um neck. Also, Frieza in the Namek
saga destroyed the planet in the
infamous five-minute scene, and
modern-day Krillin is immensely more
powerful than that. Even humans in the
Dragon Ball franchise grow at
exponential rates when it comes to their
power.
Level six, universal threats. On to our
sixth level here, we have universal
threats. Despite this level's name
sounding ominous, it just means these
characters have the power to destroy
universes if they so desire. When it
comes to fights, these characters are
undoubtedly the best in their field.
Now, I hear you saying, "But this is
only level six. What do you mean by
that?" Well, you'll see when we move on.
From speed so fast fighters look like
they're standing still, to durability so
stable they could be crushed in between
planets, and I would feel sorry for the
planets, to strength so powerful they
could destroy entire planets with
singular punches, we are truly at the
universal level of power. My choice for
this tier is Goku and Vegeta from Dragon
Ball. I swear I could have a Dragon Ball
character for every level. These
characters don't need introductions.
They have fights so intense they destroy
planets. Abilities so busted they have
multiple transformations that multiply
their power. Not just add on to it,
multiply. They're at the point in Dragon
Ball Super where they're fighting,
training, and learning from literal gods
and angels. From Ultra Instinct, an
ability that allows Goku to dodge
attacks subconsciously, to Ultra Ego, an
ability that allows Vegeta to get
stronger when he takes more damage, to a
genuine love for the game that allows
them to devote their whole lives to
fighting, these two are perfect examples
for peak warriors. There are a lot more
Dragon Ball characters I could put on
this level, so I'll restrain in that
sense. Other characters I have on this
tier are Kaguya Otsutsuki from Naruto,
Sung Jinwoo from Solo Leveling, and
Saitama from One Punch Man.
Level seven, omnipotence. And here we
are at the peak of our climb with level
seven, omnipotence. At the start of each
level I've gone on and on about all the
things that show these characters power,
speed, durability, strength, and such.
Well, characters on this level are above
those metrics. What is speed when you
can be wherever you want, whenever you
want? What is durability when no one can
hurt you? What is strength when you
don't even need to punch? My lead
example for this level is none other
than Zeno from Dragon Ball Super. Beerus
is a god of destruction. Whis is an
angel guardian. The Grand Minister,
stronger than all of them, is the
personal aid to Zeno. Zeno is a small
child-like being. Yet, in his presence,
these characters quake in fear. Zeno's
fearsome power can be seen multiple
times throughout Dragon Ball Super. From
erasing multiple universes during the
Tournament of Power to erasing universes
overrun with evil, all Zeno has to do is
lift both his hands. Other characters
that belong on this level include the
Truth from Fullmetal Alchemist, Kami
Tenchi from Tenchi Muyo, and the
Anti-Spiral from Gurren Lagann. Now, I
haven't seen every anime. There's plenty
of characters out there that I missed.
